Description

TITLE OF INVENTION
A STORAGE ASSEMBLY FOR A SADDLE-TYPE VEHICLE
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[001] The present invention relates to a saddle-type vehicle. More particularly, the present invention relates to a storage assembly for a saddle-type vehicle.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[002] The importance of wearing a helmet for a saddle-type vehicle such as a motorcycle is immense. Helmets are essential for preventing head injuries, as they are engineered to absorb and disperse impact forces during a crash, thereby significantly lowering the risk of traumatic brain injuries. Furthermore, the robust outer shell and cushioned inner lining of helmets protect the skull from fractures and debris penetration. Full-face helmets offer even greater protection, shielding the face and jaw from serious injuries in falls or collisions, while integrated visors protect the eyes and face from dust, insects, and other debris, thereby improving visibility and overall safety. Helmets also reduce wind noise, helping riders maintain focus and avoid distractions, and protect against flying debris and small objects that can cause injury or discomfort.
[003] Despite their critical role, storing helmets presents significant challenges due to the limited space available with many motorcycles. It has been observed that among motorcycles, sport and commuter models often have minimal storage compartments, which are insufficient to provide appropriate helmet storage, as their designs prioritize aesthetics and aerodynamics over providing a safe storage compartment. Consequently, many riders leave their helmets hanging on their motorcycle, leading to several issues. Helmets exposed to the elements can suffer material deterioration, such as weakening of the shell and inner foam. These helmets are also prone to collect dirt, dust, and germs, making them unsanitary and potentially causing skin infections or other issues with the rider which is undesired. Additionally, helmets left unsecured are easy targets for thieves due to their value and ease of removal. [004] As technology advances, motorcycle helmets are also evolving with new safety features such as communication systems, integrated cameras, sensors, and augmented reality systems. These advancements enhance rider’s convenience and safety but also contribute to a significant increase in the cost of manufacturing of these helmets. Due to the incorporation of these sophisticated technologies, smart motorcycle helmets represent a valuable investment that riders must protect. Given the high-tech nature and costs of these helmets, it becomes crucial to ensure their safety and security, especially when the bike is parked. Protecting the helmet when it is not in use is vital to prevent theft or damage. Additionally, keeping the helmet secure and in optimal condition before and after rides is also essential to ensure that it functions correctly and provides the intended safety benefits. Therefore, there is a pressing need for effective solutions to safeguard these advanced helmets to shield the helmet from potential harm and theft.
[005] Additionally, it has been observed that the lack of adequate storage space in existing motorcycles poses significant challenges for the riders. Without sufficient storage, carrying essential items/articles including personal belongings becomes cumbersome and the riders are often forced to use backpacks or external luggage systems, or leave their items/articles on the motorcycles, which is unsafe and increases the risk of theft/damage to the articles.
[006] In view of the foregoing, there is a need to provide a storage assembly for a saddle-type vehicle which solves at least one of the aforesaid problems.

The vehicle 10 includes a fuel tank 30 (shown in Figure 2). The fuel tank 30 is securely attached to the frame and positioned behind the headtube in a front-rear direction of the vehicle 10. The fuel tank 30 is covered by a cover member 40.
[022] As shown, the vehicle 10 includes a storage assembly 100 for storing one or more articles (A). In a non-limiting example, the storage assembly 100 includes a storage compartment 110, a lid 120 and an actuator mechanism 130. The storage compartment 110 having a storage space (S) for storing the one or more articles (A). In a non-limiting example, the article (A) includes a headgear. The lid 120 is pivotally attached to the storage compartment 110. The lid 120 is operable between an open position and a closed position to allow access to and secure the storage compartment 110. The lid 120 includes an outer surface 121 and an inner surface 122.
[023] The actuator mechanism 130 is operably attached to each of the lid 120 and the storage compartment 110. The actuator mechanism 130 is configured to actuate the lid 120 to open or close the lid 120 based on an input received from a user. The actuator mechanism 130 functions as a key role in facilitating the opening and closing of the lid 120. In a non-limiting example, the lid 120 is opened vertically upward in a vehicle height direction. The actuator mechanism 130 is strategically connected to storage compartment 110 and the lid 120 to effectively control the movement of the lid 120.
[024] In operation, when a rider/user inputs a signal/command, for example, by pressing a physical button or using a remote control, or activating a sensor, or issuing a voice command — the actuator mechanism 130 receives this input signal through a control unit (not shown). The control unit processes the signal, determining whether the lid 120 should open or close, and then activates the actuator mechanism 130 accordingly. As a result, the actuator mechanism 130 moves the lid 120 smoothly from a closed to an opened position or vice versa, providing the user with a convenient and easy access to the storage space of the storage compartment 110 for storing the one or more articles (A). In a non-limiting example, the vehicle 10 includes a gesture sensor 150 being disposed on an outer surface of the cover member 40. The predefined gesture pattern may include a first predefined swipe pattern for opening the lid 120 and a second predefined swipe pattern for closing the lid 120. The control unit is configured to store the data pertaining to predefined gesture pattern. Based on the stored data, the control unit analyzes the user input and operate the actuator mechanism 130 accordingly.
[025] In a non-limiting example, to control the opening and closing of the lid 120 via. the gesture sensor 150, several gestures may be employed. For instance, swiping a hand by the rider upward above the gesture sensor 150 provides signal to the control unit to open the lid 120, while a downward swipe by the rider provides a signal to the control unit to close the lid 120. Additionally, waving hand from right to left by the rider above the gesture sensor 150 may prompt the lid 120 to open, and waving from left to right may prompt the lid 120 to close. Further, a single tap gesture above the gesture sensor 150 may be used to open the lid 120, with another tap to close it. Moving the rider’s hand in a circular motion clockwise can also open the lid 120, while a counterclockwise motion can close the lid. These gestures can be customized based on the sensitivity and capability of the gesture sensor used in the system.
