Description
A bed
TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention relates to a bed that allows for storage space under the bed. More specifically, the bed comprises a bed body that defines a platform for a mattress and legs arranging the platform at a vertical distance from a floor so that the storage space is defined beneath the platform. One or more storage units may be arranged in the storage space. Each storage unit defines a box-shaped storage compartment and is adapted to be movable in an extension direction between a retracted storage state in which the storage unit is located within the storage space beneath the platform and an extended state in which the storage unit is at least partly extended from the storage space for providing access to the box-shaped storage compartment.
BACKGROUND
The storage units may be provided with wheels/rollers for engagement with the floor allowing the storage units to be rolled between the retracted storage state and the extended state. Any type of goods, such as clothes or bed associated goods, such as quilts, pillows and bed linen, may be stored in the storage units.
In some applications there is a desire to provide a large storage space between the platform and the floor, wherein the bed body is designed so that the platform is on a higher vertical position than in a normal bed. This would require a different design of the storage units providing for an increased storage compartment and potentially higher weight, especially if they are loaded with heavy objects. It further provides challenges when it comes to guiding of the storage units sideways when rolling into and out of the bed.
SUMMARY
A first object of the invention is to achieve a bed provided with at least one movable storage unit, that creates conditions for allowing the storage unit to carry a relatively high weight and properly guiding the storage unit sideways during movement in an extension direction between a retracted storage state and an extended state.
The object is achieved by a bed according to claim 1. Thus, it is achieved by a bed comprising a bed body that defines a platform for a mattress, wherein the bed body comprises a distance arrangement for arranging the platform at a vertical distance from a floor so that a storage space is defined beneath the platform, wherein the bed comprises at least a first storage unit that defines a box-shaped storage compartment, wherein the first storage unit is sized to fit in the storage space and adapted to be movable in an extension direction between a retracted storage state in which the first storage unit is located within the storage space beneath the platform and an extended state in which the first storage unit is at least partly extended from the storage space for providing access to the box-shaped storage compartment, wherein the first storage unit comprises a first elongated and rigid member that is positioned adjacent an upper end of the first storage unit, wherein the first elongated and rigid member extends in the extension direction of the first storage unit, characterized in that the first elongated and rigid member of the first storage unit comprises a lateral guide surface facing laterally in a first direction and that the bed body comprises a corresponding lateral guide surface facing laterally in a second direction, being opposite to said first direction, wherein the lateral guide surfaces of the first storage unit and the bed frame are adapted for engagement for guiding the first storage unit laterally during extension from the retracted storage state and/or retraction to the retracted storage state.
Such a design of the first storage unit comprising the first elongated and rigid member creates conditions for allowing the first storage unit to provide a large storage space in a way that is efficient in terms of material usage and/or weight and also provide sufficient rigidity to the first storage unit for allowing guiding the first storage unit laterally during extension from the retracted storage state and/or retraction to the retracted storage state also when the first storage unit is loaded with goods of a relatively high weight.
According to one example, the platform extends in a horizontal plane and is rectangular with two laterally extending ends defining the platform in a horizontal longitudinal direction and two longitudinally extending ends defining the platform in a horizontal lateral direction.
According to a further example, the at least one first storage unit is arranged to be movable in the extension direction between the retracted storage state and the extended state perpendicularly relative to a main extension of the bed between a head end of the bed and a foot end of the bed.
According to a further example, the at least one first storage unit has a height in a vertical direction that is commensurate with or somewhat smaller than a vertical distance between a lower surface of the platform and the floor.
According to a further example, the at least one first storage unit has a length in its extension direction that is at least 60% of, more preferably at least 75% of, and most preferably substantially commensurate with, a width of the bed.
According to a further example, the distance arrangement comprises a plurality of legs that are adapted to be in contact with the floor. More specifically, the distance arrangement may comprise four legs, wherein one leg is provided adjacent each corner of the platform. According to a complement or alternative, the distance arrangement may comprise a vertical wall at the head end of the bed and/or at the foot end of the bed. The vertical wall may be arranged to provide a load carrying function or be arranged for decorative purposes for concealing the at least one first storage unit.
According to a further example, the first storage unit comprises a bottom in the form of a panel that defines the box-shaped storage compartment vertically downwards. The bottom extends along a complete length of the first storage unit in the extension direction and a complete width of the first storage unit perpendicularly to the extension direction. More specifically, the bottom defines a rectangular shape and extends in a horizontal plane. The bottom panel may be formed in a wood-based material, such as particle board, solid wood material, or fibre board, plastic or metal. According to an alternative, the bottom may comprise a net formed by a plurality of parallel first wires extending in a first direction and a plurality of parallel second wires extending in a second direction perpendicularly to the first direction. Such wires are preferably in a metallic material. The bottom may also be made from stretch metal material. The bottom forms a support surface for carrying goods or containers for goods.
According to a further example, the first storage unit comprises side members, such as walls, defining the box-shaped storage compartment laterally. Further, the box-shaped storage compartment may comprise a rear member, such as a wall, and a front member, such as a wall, defining the box-shaped storage compartment in its extension direction. According to one example, the members are formed by walls, wherein the side walls, rear
wall and front wall extend perpendicularly relative to the bottom panel. Further, the side walls, rear wall and front wall may be formed in a wood-based material, such as particle board, solid wood material, or fibre board, plastic or metal. The side walls, rear wall and front wall are rigidly connected to the bottom panel, such as by means of a screw connection.
According to an alternative, any one of the side members, the rear member and the front member may comprise a net formed by a plurality of parallel first wires extending in a first direction and a plurality of parallel second wires extending in a second direction perpendicularly to the first direction. Such wires are preferably in a metallic material. The members may also be made from stretch metal material.
According to a further example, the front wall has an extension commensurate with a complete height of the first storage unit and a complete width of the first storage unit perpendicularly to the extension direction. Such a front wall would cover the complete storage unit when it is arranged in the retracted state beneath the platform and create conditions for an aesthetically attractive bed.
According to a further example, at least one of the side walls (and the rear wall) do not extend to a complete height of the first storage unit. According to one example, the side walls (and the rear wall) have the same height and extend less than 50% of the complete height of the first storage unit. In this way, access to goods stored in the first storage unit is facilitated from a lateral side of the first storage unit, which is especially advantageous when the first storage unit has a considerable height.
According to a further example, the first elongated and rigid member that is positioned adjacent an upper end of the first storage unit defines the box-shaped storage compartment in a height direction. According to a further example, the first elongated and rigid member has a longitudinal extension substantially commensurate with a complete length of the first storage unit in the extension direction of the first storage unit. According to a further example, the first elongated and rigid member defines the box-shaped storage compartment in a first lateral direction. According to a further example, the first elongated and rigid member has a straight longitudinal extension.
According to a further example, the bottom and the first elongated and rigid member may be formed as separate pieces that are rigidly connected to form the first storage unit. In other words, the bottom may be formed in a way specifically providing the function of supporting goods or containers for goods while the first elongated and rigid member may be formed in a way providing rigidity to the first storage unit and the function of guiding the first storage unit laterally. According to one example, the bottom is produced by a panel in a wood-based material and the first elongated and rigid member is produced in a metallic material.
According to one embodiment example, the lateral guide surface of the first elongated and rigid member of the first storage unit is elongated and extends along more than 50%, preferably more than 75%, of the extension of the first elongated and rigid member. Preferably, the lateral guide surface of the first elongated and rigid member extends along the complete extension of the first elongated and rigid member. The lateral guide surface of the bed body has a length in a direction of the bed corresponding to the extension direction of the first storage unit that is substantially shorter than a length of the elongated lateral guide surface of the first elongated and rigid member of the first storage unit. In other words, the lateral guide surface of the bed body has a length in a direction of the bed that is in parallel with a movement direction of the first storage unit and this length is preferably less than 10% and more specifically less than 5% of the length of the lateral guide surface of the first elongated and rigid member of the first storage unit allowing the first storage unit to be moved relative to the bed with the elongated lateral guide surface of the first elongated and rigid member sliding along the lateral guide surface of the bed body.
According to one example, the lateral guide surface of the bed body extends in a flat plane. Accordingly, the lateral guide surface of the bed body extends in a plane which is parallel with the extension direction of the first storage unit and is also parallel with a height direction of the first storage unit. In other words, the lateral guide surface of the bed body extends in a vertical plane which is parallel with the extension direction of the first storage unit.
According to one embodiment example, the lateral guide surface of the first elongated and rigid member of the first storage unit is elongated and extends along more than 50%, preferably more than 75%, of the extension of the first elongated and rigid member,
wherein the lateral guide surface of the bed body defines a point-wise guiding means relative to the elongated lateral guide surface of the first elongated and rigid member of the first storage unit allowing the first storage unit to be moved relative to the bed with the elongated lateral guide surface of the first elongated and rigid member sliding along the point-wise guiding means defined by the lateral guide surface of the bed body.
It creates conditions for a proper control of the first storage unit sideways when moved between the retracted state and the extended state.
According to one example, the lateral guide surface of the first elongated and rigid member of the first storage unit extends along a complete length of the extension of the first elongated and rigid member.
The term “point-wise” should be interpreted in relation to the length of the elongated lateral guide surface. Accordingly, the term “point-wise” defines an extension in the width direction of the bed (corresponding to the extension direction of the first storage unit) that is significantly shorter than the length of the elongated lateral guide surface. More specifically, the point-wise guiding means defines an extension in the width direction of the bed (corresponding to the extension direction of the first storage unit) that is less than 10% and more specifically less than 5% of the length of the elongated lateral guide surface.
According to a further embodiment example, the lateral guide surface of the bed body is arranged adjacent a side of the bed that defines an entry for the first storage unit when moved in the extension direction towards the retracted storage state.
According to a further embodiment example, the first elongated and rigid member is arranged to form a limitation of the first storage unit laterally outwards. In other words, the first elongated and rigid member defines the first storage unit laterally outwards.
According to a further embodiment example, the bed body comprises a structural body part and a bracket that is rigidly attached to the structural body part and wherein the bracket comprises the lateral guide surface of the bed body. According to one example, the structural body part is formed by a beam extending in a longitudinal direction of the bed frame between a head end and a foot end of the bed. According to a further example,
the beam is arranged at an upper end of the bed frame. According to a further example, the bracket is attached to the beam at a lower surface of the beam facing the floor.
According to a further embodiment example, the bracket has an angular shape in cross section comprising an attachment portion for being rigidly attached to the structural body part and a guide portion provided with the lateral guide surface, wherein the attachment portion and the guide portion are arranged perpendicularly relative to one another. According to one example, the bracket is a one-piece unit.
According to a further embodiment example, the structural body part of the bed body is made from a metal or from a wood-based material, such as particle board, solid wood material, or fibre board, or from a combination of metal and wood materials, and the bracket is in a metallic or plastic material.
According to a further embodiment example, the first elongated and rigid member of the first storage unit has a length that is substantially as long as a length of the first storage unit in its extension direction.
According to a further embodiment example, the first elongated and rigid member of the first storage unit is formed by a bar. The term “bar” indicates a long rigid piece and may alternatively be termed a rod or rail.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EXAMPLE EMBODIMENTS
Fig. 1 is a perspective view from above of a bed 2 according to a first embodiment. The bed 2 comprises a bed body 4 that defines a platform 6 for a mattress. The platform 6 extends in a horizontal plane and is rectangular. The bed body 4 comprises two laterally extending structural body parts in the form beams 8, 10 defining the platform 6 in opposite directions in a horizontal longitudinal direction and two longitudinally extending structural body parts in the form of beams 12, 14 defining the platform in opposite directions in a horizontal lateral direction. Further, the platform 6 optionally comprises a plurality of slats 9 extending in the horizontal lateral direction and supported by the two longitudinally extending beams 12, 14. More specifically, the slats are arranged in parallel with each other and spaced from each other in the horizontal longitudinal direction of the platform 6.
The bed body 4 further comprises a distance arrangement 16 for arranging the platform 6 at a vertical distance from a floor so that a storage space 18 is defined beneath the platform 6. Accordingly, the storage space 18 is defined vertically upwards by a lower surface of the platform 6 and vertically downwards by the floor. More specifically, the
distance arrangement 16 comprises four vertical legs, one leg at each corner of the platform 6.
Further, the bed 2 comprises at least a first storage unit 20 that defines a box-shaped storage compartment. The first storage unit 20 is sized to fit in the storage space 18 and is adapted to be movable in an extension direction 30, see fig. 2, between a retracted storage state in which the first storage unit 20 is located within the storage space 18 beneath the platform 6 and an extended state in which the first storage unit 20 is at least partly extended from the storage space 18 for providing access to the box-shaped storage compartment.
The first storage unit 20 comprises a handle 21 that is accessible at a front end of the first storage unit 20 for facilitating operation. More specifically, the bed 2 comprises in this embodiment a second storage unit 22 that defines a box-shaped storage compartment and is arranged in a side-by-side relationship with the first storage unit 20. Further, the bed 2 comprises a third storage unit 24 that defines a box-shaped storage compartment and is arranged in a side-by-side relationship with the second storage unit 22 at an opposite side of the first storage unit 20. The first, second and third storage units 20, 22, 24 are movably arranged with parallel extension directions. The first, second and third storage units 20, 22, 24 are of equal size and design. Further, the bed 2 comprises a set of drawers 26, 28 arranged in a side-by-side relationship with the third storage unit 24. The set of drawers 26, 28 comprises two drawers arranged on top of each other.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the bed 2 according to the first embodiment, wherein the first storage unit 20 is in the extended state. The first storage unit 20 is arranged relative to the bed body 4 so that the extension direction 30 of the first storage unit 20 is in a lateral direction of the bed body 4 perpendicular to a longitudinal direction of the bed body between a head end 32 and a foot end 34 of the bed 2. The first storage unit 20 is also shown per se in an enlarged view from above in fig. 2. The first storage unit 20 has a length L in the extension direction 30 that is at least 60% of, more preferably at least 75% of, and most preferably substantially commensurate with, a width W of the bed 2 in the horizontal lateral direction of the bed body 4.
The first storage unit 20 comprises a first elongated and rigid member 36 that is positioned adjacent an upper end 38 of the first storage unit 20. The first elongated and
rigid member 36 extends in the extension direction 30 of the first storage unit 20 and defines the first storage unit laterally outwards. Thus, a longitudinal direction of the first elongated and rigid member 36 extends in the extension direction 30. The first elongated and rigid member 36 extends substantially along the complete length L of the first storage unit 20, this length of the rigid member 36 being a length L0. An elongated lateral guide surface 62, also shown in Figs. 4b and 4c, of the first elongated and rigid member 36 has a length L2 in the extension direction 30 of the first storage unit 20. This length L2 is in this embodiment to the same as the length L0 of the first elongated and rigid member 36.
The first storage unit 20 further comprises a second elongated and rigid member 40 that is positioned adjacent the upper end 38 of the first storage unit, wherein the second elongated and rigid member 40 extends in the extension direction 30 of the first storage unit 20 and defines the first storage unit laterally outwards in an opposite direction relative to the first elongated and rigid member 36. Thus, a longitudinal direction of the second elongated and rigid member 40 extends in the extension direction 30. Accordingly, the first elongated and rigid member 36 and the second elongated and rigid member 40 are arranged in parallel with each other in a plane defining the first storage unit 20 vertically upwards.
Further, the first storage unit 20 comprises a horizontal bottom panel 42 that extends along the complete length L of the first storage unit 20 in the extension direction 30 and a complete width of the first storage unit 20 perpendicularly to the extension direction 30. The bottom panel 42 defines the storage compartment vertically downwards.
Further, the first storage unit 20 comprises two vertical side walls 44, 46, defining the boxshaped storage compartment laterally in opposite directions. Further, the first storage unit 20 comprises a vertical rear wall 48 and a vertical front wall 50. The side walls 44, 46 are rigidly connected to the bottom panel 42, such as by means of screw connections. The rear wall 48 and the front wall 50 extend perpendicularly relative to the bottom panel 42 and are rigidly connected to the side walls 44, 46, such as by means of screw connections.
The front wall 50 extends along a complete height of the first storage unit 20 and the complete width of the first storage unit 20. The side walls 44, 46 and the rear wall 48 do not extend along a complete height of the first storage unit 20. More specifically, the side walls 44, 46 and the rear wall 48 have the same height and extend less than 50% and
more especially less than 25% of the complete height of the first storage unit 20. The front wall 50, side walls 44, 46 and the rear wall 48 jointly defines a box shaped compartment that is open upwards, and which is in this embodiment also partly open towards it sides.
Further, a first end of each one of the first and second longitudinally extending elongated and rigid members 36, 40 are rigidly connected to the front wall 50.
The first elongated and rigid member 36 and a first one of the side walls 44 are arranged in a vertical plane defining the box-shaped compartment in a first lateral direction. Further, the second elongated and rigid member 40 and a second one of the side walls 46 are arranged in a vertical plane defining the box-shaped compartment in a second lateral direction opposite the first lateral direction.
The first storage unit 20 further comprises a laterally extending elongated and rigid member 52 that extends perpendicularly to the extension direction 30 of the first storage unit 20 and defines the box-shape storage compartment rearwards in the extension direction. The laterally extending elongated and rigid member 52 is positioned adjacent the upper end 38 of the first storage unit 20 and is rigidly connected to a second end of each one of the first and second longitudinally extending elongated and rigid members 36, 40. The laterally extending elongated and rigid member 52 and the first and second longitudinally extending elongated and rigid members 36, 40 extends in the same horizontal plane.
The first storage unit 20 further comprises two vertically extending elongated and rigid members 54, 56 arranged at a rear end of the first storage unit 20 and at a distance from each other in the lateral direction of the first storage unit 20. More specifically, the two vertically extending elongated and rigid members 54, 56 define the first storage unit 20 in the rearward direction and in the lateral direction. More specifically, each one of the two vertically extending elongated and rigid members 54, 56 is rigidly connected to the bottom panel 42 at a lower end and to the longitudinally extending first and second elongated and rigid members 36, 40 at an upper end.
Each one of the elongated and rigid members 36, 40, 52, 54, 56 of the first storage unit 20 is in the form of a bar in a metallic material. The arrangement of the elongated and rigid
members 36, 40, 52, 54, 56 provides stability to the first storage unit 20 for allowing proper control of the first storage unit 20 during movement.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the first storage unit 20 from below. The first storage unit 20 comprises a plurality of wheels 58, 60 for engagement with the floor, preferably direct engagement with the floor, for allowing the movement of the first storage unit 20 in the extension direction between the retracted storage state and the extended state. More specifically, the first storage unit 20 comprises a first set of wheels 58 adjacent a first end in the lateral direction and a second set of wheels 60 adjacent a second end in the lateral direction. The first set of wheels 58 comprises a plurality of wheels spaced in the longitudinal direction of the first storage unit 20. More specifically, each wheel in the first set of wheels 58 is supported in a rotational bearing provided in a recess in a lower edge of the first side wall 44. In a similar way, the second set of wheels 60 comprises a plurality of wheels spaced in the longitudinal direction of the first storage unit 20. Mor specifically, each wheel in the second set of wheels 60 is supported in a rotational bearing provided in a recess in a lower edge of the second side wall 46. One embodiment of the arrangement of the wheels is further described below and shown in fig. 8.
Fig. 4a is a perspective view of the bed 2 and the first storage unit 20 in the extended state as seen from below. Fig 4b is a close-up view of a region providing an interface between the bed 2 and the first storage unit 20. Fig 4c is further close-up view of the interface region between the bed 2 and the first storage unit 20, wherein the first storage unit 4 is shown in a completely extended state.
The first elongated and rigid member 36 of the first storage unit 20 comprises the lateral guide surface 62 facing laterally in a first direction. The bed body 4 comprises a corresponding lateral guide surface 64 facing laterally in a second direction, being opposite to said first direction. The lateral guide surfaces 62, 64 of the first storage unit 20 and the bed frame 4 are adapted for engagement for guiding the first storage unit 20 laterally during extension from the retracted storage state and retraction to the retracted storage state.
The lateral guide surface 64 of the bed body 4 has a length L1, see fig. 4c, in a direction of the bed 2 corresponding to the extension direction 30, see Fig. 2, of the first storage unit 20. The length L1 of the lateral guide surface 64 of the bed body 4 is substantially
shorter than the length L2, see Fig. 2, of the elongated lateral guide surface 62 of the first elongated and rigid member 36 of the first storage unit 20. Preferably, the length L1 of the lateral guide surface 64 of the bed body 4 is less than 10% and more specifically less than 5% of the length L2 of the lateral guide surface 62 of the first elongated and rigid member 36 of the first storage unit 20.
The lateral guide surface 62 of the first elongated and rigid member 36 of the first storage unit 20 is elongated and extends along a complete length of the first elongated and rigid member 36. Thus, the lateral guide surface 62 of the first elongated and rigid member 36 extends along substantially a complete length of the first storage unit 20 in the extension direction 30. The lateral guide surface 64 of the bed body 4 defines a, preferably pointwise, guiding means relative to the elongated lateral guide surface 62 of the first elongated and rigid member 36 allowing the first storage unit 20 to be moved relative to the bed 2 with the elongated lateral guide surface 62 of the first elongated and rigid member 36 sliding along the point-wise guiding means defined by the lateral guide surface 64 of the bed body 4. The term “point-wise” should be interpreted in relation to the length of the elongated lateral guide surface 62. Accordingly, the term “point-wise” defines an extension in the width direction of the bed 2 (corresponding to the extension direction of the first storage unit 20) that is significantly shorter than the length of the elongated lateral guide surface 62. More specifically, the preferably point-wise guiding means defines an extension of the lateral guide surface 64 in the width direction of the bed (corresponding to the extension direction of the first storage unit 20) that is less than 10% and more specifically less than 5% of the total length of the elongated lateral guide surface 62.
The lateral guide surface 64 of the bed body 4 is arranged adjacent a lateral side of the bed 2 that defines an entry for the first storage unit 20 when moved in the extension direction towards the retracted storage state.
The bed body 4 comprises a first bracket 66 that is rigidly attached to the longitudinally extending beam 12, wherein the first bracket 66 comprises the lateral guide surface 64 of the bed body. The first bracket 66 is attached to a rear (inner) surface of the longitudinally extending beam 12. More specifically, a front end of the first bracket 66 somewhat recessed in relation to a front end of the beam 12 in the extension direction 30 of the first storage unit 20 so that the front wall 50 may be arranged flush with a laterally outer surface of the front end of the beam 12. The first bracket 66 has an angular shape in
cross section comprising an attachment portion 68 for being rigidly attached to the beam 12 and a guide portion 70 provided with the lateral guide surface 64, wherein the attachment portion 68 and the guide portion 70 are arranged perpendicularly relative to one another.
The bed 2 further comprises a stop arrangement 72 for providing an end stop for withdrawal of the first storage unit 20 from the bed 2. The stop arrangement 72 comprises a projection 74 projecting laterally from the first elongated and rigid member 36 at a rear end of the first storage unit 20. The stop arrangement 72 further comprises a stop surface 76 that is rigidly connected to the bed frame 4 and extends so that it crosses a movement path of the projection 74 when the first storage unit 20 is moved in the extension direction 30. More specifically, the first bracket 66 comprises the stop surface 76 at a rear end of the first bracket 66.
The bed body 4 further comprises a second bracket 78 that is rigidly attached to the longitudinally extending beam 12, wherein the second bracket 78 has a similar design as the first bracket 66. The second bracket 78 comprises a lateral guide surface 80 for engagement with a lateral guide surface of an elongated and rigid member associated with the second storage unit 22. The second bracket 78 has a similar design as the first bracket 66. The first bracket 66 and the second bracket 78 are arranged in a mirrored (back-to-back) relationship so that their lateral guide surfaces 64, 80 face in opposite directions.
Further, the second elongated and rigid member 40 of the first storage unit 20 comprises a lateral guide surface 92, see fig. 2, facing laterally in an opposite direction relative to the lateral guide surface 62 of the first lateral support member 36. The lateral guide surface 92 of the second elongated and rigid member 40 of the first storage unit 20 is elongated and extends along a complete length of the second elongated and rigid member 40. Thus, the lateral guide surface 92 of the second elongated and rigid member 40 extends along substantially a complete length of the first storage unit 20 in the extension direction 30.
Further, the bed body 4 comprises a further lateral guide surface 94, see fig. 4a, facing in an opposite direction relative to the first-mentioned lateral guide surface 64 of the bed body 4 and spaced a distance from the first-mentioned lateral guide surface 64 of the bed body 4 in the lateral direction of the first storage unit 20 allowing the first storage unit 20 to
fit between the lateral guide surfaces 64, 94 of the bed body 4 in a way that the first storage unit 20 may be guided laterally in both directions during extension from the retracted storage state and/or retraction to the retracted storage state. In a similar fashion as has been described above with regard to the interaction between the lateral guide surface 64 of the bed body 4 and the elongated lateral guide surface 62 of the first elongated and rigid member 36, also the further lateral guide surface 94 of the bed body 4 defines a, preferably point-wise, guiding means relative to the lateral guide surface 92 of the second elongated and rigid member 40. More specifically, the bed body 4 comprises a further bracket (not shown) of similar design as the first bracket 66 and arranged in a mirrored relationship relative to the first bracket 66, wherein the further bracket comprises the further lateral guide surface 94.
More specifically, the lateral guide surfaces 64, 94 of the bed body 4 are arranged at a spacing corresponding to a width of the first storage unit 20 so that one of the lateral guide surface 62, 92 of the first storage unit 20 may be in contact with its associated lateral guide surface 64, 94 of the bed body 4 and the other one of the lateral guide surface 62, 92 of the first storage unit 20 will be very close to its associated lateral guide surface 64, 94 of the bed body 4 at any given point in time during extension/retraction of the first storage unit 20. Hence, depending on how a person moves the storage unit 20 in the extension/retraction thereof, the surfaces 64, 94 may guide the storage unit, or may merely correct the path along which the storage unit 20 moves, or a combination of both. Accordingly, the first storage unit 20 may be laterally supported by any one of the lateral guide surfaces 64, 94 of the bed body 4 at any given point in time during extension/retraction of the first storage unit 20.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view from above of the first storage unit 20 provided with a plurality of containers 82, 84, 86 arranged in the box-shaped storage compartment. Fig. 6 is a side view of the first storage unit 20 provided with the containers according to fig. 5. A first container 82 is provided resting on an upper surface of the bottom panel 42. The first container 82 has a height that is somewhat smaller than a height of the first storage unit 20. More specifically, the first container 82 has a height that is about 80-90% of the height of the first storage unit 20. A second container 84 is provided resting on the upper surface of the bottom panel 42. The second container 84 has a height that is less than 50 % of the height of the first storage unit 20. A third container 86 is arranged above the second container 84.
The first elongated and rigid member 36 of the first storage unit 20 comprises a first support surface 88 for carrying the third container 86. More specifically, the first support surface 88 forms an upper surface of the first elongated and rigid member 36. Further, the third container 86 comprises a rim 90 that rests on the first support surface 88.
Further, the second elongated and rigid member 40 of the first storage unit 20 comprises a second support surface 96 for carrying the third container 86. More specifically, the second support surface 96 forms an upper surface of the second elongated and rigid member 40. Further, the rim 90 of the third container 86 rests on the second support surface 96.
More specifically, the third container 86 is supported by the first and second elongated and rigid members 36, 40 so that a lower end of the third container 86 being located above the bottom panel 42 of the first storage unit 20 and leaving a storage compartment arranged between said lower end of the third container 86 and the bottom panel 42.
Accordingly, the design of the first storage unit 20 creates conditions for obtaining storage in two floors/levels. In this way the first storage unit 20 can be arranged for storing large objects, or storing objects on two levels, like in a wardrobe, or a combination of both.
Fig. 7a is a perspective view of the bed 2 according to the first embodiment from below. Fig. 7a further shows two enlarged perspective views of an interface between the first and second storage units 20, 22 from different directions, wherein the first and second storage units 20, 22 are in their retracted states. Fig. 7a further shows an enlarged view of an interface between the first storage unit 20 and an adjacent wall 106 of the bed 2.
Fig. 7b is a perspective view of the bed according to fig. 7a, wherein the second storage unit 22 is in a partly extended state.
The first storage unit 20 comprises a first sideways controlling roller 109 arranged with its axis of rotation extending in a vertical direction for engaging a lateral surface 111 formed on the second storage unit 22 for guiding the first storage unit 20 laterally in relation to the second storage unit 22 during extension from the retracted storage state and/or retraction to the retracted storage state of the first storage unit 20.
The second storage unit 22 comprises a second sideways controlling roller 102 arranged with its axis of rotation extending in a vertical direction, wherein the second roller 102 is arranged for engaging a lateral surface 104 adjacent the second storage unit 22 for guiding the second storage unit 22 laterally during extension from the retracted storage state and/or retraction to the retracted storage state. The second sideways controlling roller 102 is arranged adjacent a rear end of the second storage unit 22. The lateral surface 104 forms a laterally outwards facing surface of the first side wall 44 of the first storage unit 20.
The second sideways controlling roller 102 of the second storage unit 22 is arranged at a vertical distance from the first sideways controlling roller 109 of the first storage unit 20.
