Definitions
- the present invention relates to a silicone resin composition containing a filler and an organopolysiloxane.
- Heat-dissipating materials are generally made from resin compositions containing resin and filler, and achieving high heat dissipation is effective by increasing the filler loading or using a filler with higher thermal conductivity.
- resin compositions containing resin and filler poor compatibility between the resin and filler can reduce the flexibility of the composition and impair the functionality of the material.
- Known ways to improve poor compatibility between the resin and filler include adding additives that have affinity with both the resin and filler, or adding additives that improve dispersibility in the resin.
- Patent Document 1 discloses an invention relating to an organopolysiloxane with a specific structure as a dispersant capable of stably dispersing fillers in liquid media.
- Patent Document 2 discloses an invention relating to a silicone-based dispersant made of a compound with a different specific structure as a dispersant capable of stably dispersing fillers in liquid media.
- Resin compositions containing a resin, a filler, and an additive are often applied to an adherend such as an electronic component to be mounted as a heat dissipation material.
- a method using a low molecular weight matrix resin is generally known to improve the coatability of the resin composition. However, this method has the problem of impairing the retention of the resin composition.
- a method using a high molecular weight matrix resin is known to improve the retention of the resin composition, but this method has the problem of deteriorating the coatability of the resin composition. Therefore, in conventional resin compositions, there is a trade-off between application properties and retention properties.
- the present invention therefore aims to provide a silicone resin composition that has both good application properties and good retention properties.
- the present inventors have found that it is possible to achieve both good application properties and good retention properties by using a silicone resin composition that contains, in addition to a filler (A), an organopolysiloxane (B) having an optimum molecular weight as a matrix resin, and also contains an organopolysiloxane (C) having an optimum molecular weight that can function as, for example, a dispersant, and have thus completed the present invention. That is, the present invention provides the following [1] to [10].
- a silicone resin composition comprising a filler (A), an organopolysiloxane (B) that is a matrix resin, and an organopolysiloxane (C) that is different from the organopolysiloxane (B), wherein the number average molecular weight of the organopolysiloxane (B) is 8,000 or more and less than 30,000, and the number average molecular weight of the organopolysiloxane (C) is 10,000 or more and less than 40,000.
- each R 1 is independently a group represented by A-B or a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, At least one of the R 1s is a group represented by A-B, A is a divalent organic group bonded to a silicon atom, B is a conjugated ring structure that constitutes a common conjugated system, n is an integer of 1 or more.
- the present invention provides a silicone resin composition that exhibits both excellent application and retention properties.
- the silicone resin composition of the present invention comprises a filler (A), an organopolysiloxane (B) that is a matrix resin, and an organopolysiloxane (C) that is different from the organopolysiloxane (B).
- the number average molecular weight of the organopolysiloxane (B) is 8,000 or more and less than 30,000, and the number average molecular weight of the organopolysiloxane (C) is 10,000 or more and less than 40,000.
- organopolysiloxane (C) which can be used as a high-molecular-weight dispersant, etc., is easily adsorbed to filler (A) due to van der Waals forces. Therefore, not only is the effect of addition easily exhibited, but the entire organopolysiloxane (C) molecule is strongly bound to filler (A), minimizing entanglement with the matrix resin. This reduces the viscosity of the silicone resin composition under high shear stress, resulting in high applicability.
- the filler (A) surface-treated in this manner retains a certain level of applicability even when combined with a high-molecular-weight matrix resin.
- the high-molecular-weight matrix resin is effective in improving the retention of the silicone resin composition.
- the organopolysiloxane (B) serving as the matrix resin does not have the ability to adsorb to the filler (A), while the organopolysiloxane (C) different from the organopolysiloxane (B) has the ability to adsorb to the filler (A).
- the viscosity of the silicone resin composition at low shear will be too low, impairing the retention of the composition and potentially causing problems such as dripping when the composition is applied to an adherend such as an electronic component. Also, if the number-average molecular weight of the organopolysiloxane (B) is 30,000 or more, the viscosity of the silicone resin composition will be excessively high, potentially impairing the applicability of the composition.
- the number average molecular weight of the organopolysiloxane (B) is preferably 8,500 or more and 29,000 or less, more preferably 12,000 or more and 27,000 or less, and even more preferably 18,000 or more and 25,000 or less.
- the number-average molecular weight of the organopolysiloxane (C) is less than 10,000, the organopolysiloxane (C) will not be sufficiently adsorbed to the filler, and the organopolysiloxane (C) will not be able to sufficiently disperse the filler (A) in the organopolysiloxane (B), making it difficult to obtain excellent coatability. Furthermore, if the number-average molecular weight is 40,000 or more, a loop structure will be formed due to the polymer chain of the organopolysiloxane (C), and the filler (A) will aggregate via this loop structure, making it difficult to obtain excellent coatability.
- the number-average molecular weight of the organopolysiloxane (C) is preferably 12,000 or more and 38,000 or less, more preferably 15,000 or more and 36,000 or less, and even more preferably 20,000 or more and 33,000 or less.
- the number average molecular weights of the above organopolysiloxanes are all values determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and converted into polystyrene equivalents. The same applies to the number average molecular weight of the hydrogenorganopolysiloxane (D) described below.
- each organopolysiloxane can be extracted as follows. First, the silicone resin composition is washed with a solvent under mild conditions to extract the organopolysiloxane (B), and then the washing residue is washed under strong conditions to extract the organopolysiloxane (C).

Abstract
