I. Introduction
The present patent document discloses methods of dual link wireless communication. The disclosed methods, among other benefits, reduce power consumption and improve uplink (UL) coverage.
Low power wake-up signal (LP-WUS) is introduced in Rel-19. With this, the power saving gain could be achieved. However, the receiver for receiving LP-WUS is only for downlink (DL) .
Supplementary uplink (SUL) is introduced in new radio (NR) . With this, the uplink coverage could be improved when starting the random access channel (RACH) based on the SUL. However, it is only used for uplink.
In this patent document, we would combine both DL LP-WUS and uplink (UL) SUL, and extend the function to achieve DL power saving gain, better UL coverage, and small amount data transmission.
The key character is that the main-radio (MR) link and the low power (LP) receive/transmit (R/T) link may be different. And the LP R/T link could be used for UL and DL transmission, could be used for time division duplex (TDD) and/or frequency division duplex (FDD) . FIG. 1 illustrates an example main-radio (MR) link. FIG. 2 illustrates an example supplementary uplink (SUL) . FIG. 3 illustrates an example receiver architecture of a wake-up receiver (WUR) .
Dual-link, link 1, and link 2 are assumed for communication.
Embodiment 1: DL signal triggers physical random access channel (PRACH) .
Embodiment 2: DL signal triggers RACH in uplinks or UL bands and corresponding indication.
Embodiment 3: DL signal triggers small data transmission.
Embodiment 4: association between DL signal and PRACH.
Embodiment 5: measurement based on dual-links.
The DL signal could be low power synchronization signal (LP-SS) /LP-WUS.
II. Embodiment 1
Embodiment 1 describes how DL signal triggers PRACH.
Implementation 1: DL signal including LP-WUS or a configuration triggers 4-step RACH or 2-step RACH.
Configuration indicates the UE to start 4-step RACH or 2-step RACH. The configuration is included in LP-WUS, system information block 1 (SIB1) , or high layer configuration.
The configuration includes a high layer configuration, a system information indication, RRC configuration, or predetermined configuration. The DL signal also includes a preamble of the DL signal.
Configuration indicates the UE to start RACH by using the configured PRACH resources. The PRACH resources are configured in LP-WUS or SIB1. The PRACH resources could be used for 4-step RACH or 2-step RACH.
The DL signal can include a first DL signal and a second DL signal. ‘the first DL signal and the second DL signal are associated with a same occasion’ means an occasion is associated with a first DL signal and a second DL signal.
UE start the 4-step RACH or 2-step RACH according to the configuration or the DL signal.
Implementation 2: How to trigger RACH
An occasion includes at least one of a physical random access channel (PRACH) occasion, a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) occasion, a paging occasion (PO) , or an uplink (UL) transmission occasion.
If UE received LP-WUS, the UE starts the RACH based on the next RACH occasion (RO) .
If UE received LP-WUS, the UE starts the RACH based on the next RO after an offset.
If the UE received LP-WUS, the UE starts RACH based on the RO associated with LP-WUS/LP-SS/synchronization signal block (SSB) .
The LP-WUS is configured in SIB and used for RACH triggering.
The LP-WUS indicates whether UE starts the RACH, or LP-WUS indicates which RO is for starting RACH.
The cyclic redundancy check (CRC) or scrambling information of LP-WUS indicates it is for RACH triggering.
The preambles of LP-WUS indicates it is for RACH triggering.
Implementation 2 is shown in FIG. 4.
After LP-WUS triggering PRACH, the corresponding UE behavior includes:
- The UE initiates RACH procedure after an offset.
- The UE initiates RACH procedure after LP-WUS.
- The UE is expected to initiate the RACH procedure in a time period, where the time period is after LP-WUS or after an offset.
- Whether the UE initiates RACH procedure depends on UE implementation.
Implementation 3: Trigger RACH or paging
SIB configuration, LP-WUS indication, CRC, scrambling, or preambles of LP-WUS indicates LP-WUS is used for RACH triggering or paging occasion (PO) monitoring.
In some embodiments, paging occasion can be used interchangeably with paging message, paging PDCCH, paging channel, paging PDSCH, or paging.
POs are located in band/carrier/frequency location x, and ROs are located in band/carrier/frequency location y. POs and ROs are defined in one cell.
Implementation 2 is shown in FIG. 5.
After LP-WUS is received, the corresponding UE behavior for monitoring PO includes:
- The UE monitors PO after an offset/a (minimum) time gap.
- The UE monitors PO after LP-WUS.
- The UE is expected to monitor PO in a time period, where the time period is after LP-WUS or after an offset.
- Whether the UE monitors PO depends on UE implementation.
Implementation 4: other configurations for PRACH
The following configurations are included in SIB.
- A preamble index, a preamble subcarrier spacing (SCS) , PPRACH, target, a corresponding random access radio network temporary identifier (RA-RNTI) , a PRACH resource for the cell.
- A number ofpreamble repetitions for the PRACH transmission if the UE would transmit the PRACH with repetitions.
- PRACH format, bandwidth, length.
The LP-WUS configurations are included in SIB.
For a group of UEs, it is configured with at least a preamble index, a preamble SCS, PPRACH, target, a corresponding RA-RNTI, a PRACH resource, a number ofpreamble repetitions or a set of preamble index, SCSs, RA-RNTI, PRACH resources, repetitions. And then, LP-WUS may indicate one of them for a target UE.
Implementation 5: DL signal, e.g., LP-WUS information.
If the UE obtain a temporary identifier (ID) or the UE is configured with an ID, then the UE ID information could be included in the DL signal, e.g., based on grouping method.
III. Embodiment 2
Embodiment 2 describes how DL signal triggers RACH in uplink or UL bands and corresponding indication. FIG. 6 illustrates an example uplink triggering.
DL signal, e.g., LP-WUS indicates the uplink or UL bands for RACH transmission.
Implementation 1:
Example 1-1: 1 bit in DL signal, e.g., LP-WUS, e.g., UL/SUL indicator.
1 bit in LP-WUS to indicate the PRACH is transmitted in band 1/UL1/bandwidth part 1 (BWP1) /frequency location1 or band2/UL2/BWP2/frequency location2.
or
or
Example 1-2: 1 or several bits in SIBs to indicate the frequency location for LP-WUS and SUL.
For example, there are at least one band /UL/BWP/frequency location for LP-WUS and SUL transmission.
Frequency location index 1
- DL: {starting frequency location

SCS}
- UL: {starting frequency location
Bandwidth or number of PRBs
SCS}
Frequency location index 2
- DL: {starting frequency location
Bandwidth or number of PRBs
SCS}
- UL: {starting frequency location
Bandwidth or number of PRBs
SCS}
SIB can enable a frequency location index. Based on this, the LP-WUS located in the frequency location could be monitored and PRACH can be transmitted.
SIB can configure s set of indexes of frequency location. Based on this, the UE could monitor LP-WUS or transmit the PRACH in one frequency location associated with an index based on its own UE-ID. Example 1-2 is shown in FIG. 7.
In 2-step RACH, PRACH is a part of msgA. In 4-step RACH, PRACH is the msg1.
Example 1-3: Physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmission.
PUSCH Location is the same as PRACH
- The PUSCH transmission, e.g., msgA PUSCH part or msg3, is assumed that the frequency location index is the same as PRACH, LP-WUS.
- The PUSCH transmission, e.g., msgA PUSCH part or msg3, is assumed that the center frequency is the same as PRACH, LP-WUS.
PUSCH Location is different from PRACH
This may depend on the configuration for PRACH and PUSCH. For example, they may be configured with different frequency parameters and independent. Then their locations could be different. Example 1-3 is shown in FIG. 8.
IV. Embodiment 3
Embodiment 3 describes how DL signal triggers SDT.
DL signal, e.g., LP-WUS or msg4 or msg2 or msgB may be used to trigger some data transmission with extreme small size, e.g., <=1000 or 100bits.
Example 1-1: LP-WUS to trigger the small data transmission. Example 1-1 is shown in FIG. 9.

In this case, gNB may need to operate in duplex mode.
At least the above configurations in example 1-1 can be indicated by LP-SS/SIB/LP-WUS for the small data transmission.
Example 1-3: preamble/PRACH trigger UL transmission, e.g., in the second link. Example 1-3 is shown in FIG. 11.
After UE sending the preamble, gNodeB (gNB) knows the UE has some UL data to transmit. By sending the configuration, via LP-WUS, or message 2 or physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) or some specific signals or channels, the UE knows how to transmit the PUSCH.

V. Embodiment 4
Embodiment 4 describes UE self-triggered RACH in the second link.
The RACH procedure could be triggered by DL signal, e.g., LP-WUS. The UE also could trigger the RACH by itself.
In this case, the PRACH occasion may be associated with LP-SS or LP-WUS, as shown in FIG. 12.
At least the following cases are supported:
- One LP-WUS/LP-SS mapped to one PRACH occasion.
- One LP-WUS/LP-SS mapped to multiple PRACH occasions

Prior to initiation of the physical random access procedure, Layer 1 receives from higher layers a set of LP-SS and provides to higher layers a set of RSRP measurements.
Prior to initiation of the physical random access procedure, Layer 1 may receive from higher layers an indication or LP-WUS to perform a Type-1 random access procedure, or a Type-2 random access procedure.
Prior to initiation of the physical random access procedure, Layer 1 receives the following information from the higher layers:
- Configuration of physical random access channel (PRACH) transmission parameters (PRACH preamble format, time resources, and frequency resources for PRACH transmission) .
- LP-WUS configuration
- Parameters for determining the root sequences and their cyclic shifts in the PRACH preamble sequence set (index to logical root sequence table, cyclic shift () , and set type (unrestricted, restricted set A, or restricted set B) ) .
Physical random access procedure for a UE is triggered upon request of a PRACH transmission by higher layers or by a PDCCH order for a cell or by LP-WUS.
VI. Embodiment 5
Embodiment 5 describes dual link for measurement.

In some cases, UE contain two links connected to the cluster and the gNB providing the DL signal.
With the above, UE could keep connection with network (NW) at any time, and achieve a smooth switching between different clusters.
The following configuration may be included:
- Threshold for link1, and threshold for link2.
- Measurement period for link1, and measurement period for link2
- Reference signal (RS) resources for link1, and RS resources for link2.
The following UE behaviors may be included:
- At least one of the thresholds should be satisfied when UE perform the serving cell measurement. If both of the thresholds are not satisfied, the UE performs neighbor cell measurement, intro-frequency or inter-frequency measurement.
- The UE does not need to simultaneously do the measurements for two links.
- Whether the UE could apply the measurement based on link2 is depending on the measurement results for link1.
- The UE could choose the link for measurement based on threshold.
An example of dual link measurement thresholds is shown in FIG. 14.
The measurement based on links satisfied RSRP>thre1, then UE could use link2 for measurement. If the RSRP of link2 is less than threshold2, UE shall return to link1 measurement.
