- This embodiment mainly introduces the registration-related process.
- UPM and AAA-P are optional network functions, or UPM and UDM are set together, or UPM and AAA-P are set together, or UPM and AAA-S are set together in the absence of AAA-P.
- this embodiment includes the following steps:
- Step 1 The user uses the terminal UE as identified by the user identity (User ID), such as entering the user identity in the UI interface of the UE to replace the default user (the user identified by the SIM card information in the UE - called the terminal user) to use the terminal UE.
- the UE initiates a registration request to the core network, carrying the terminal user identity/terminal identity - hereinafter collectively referred to as the terminal identity, represented by UE ID1 here, such as TMSI, IMSI, SUPI, SUCI, etc.
- the UE can also carry the user identity (User ID) or information used to indicate the identity or information used to send to AAA-S, AAA-S addr or AF ID, indication information 1 (such as carrying a securely protected User ID in the case of a security context, and carrying indication information 1 in the case of no full context).
- the UE can include the User ID (indication information) or information communicated with AAA-S in the container of the NAS message that is transparent to the AMF, and the AMF only needs to forward it to AAA-S.
- Step 2 If AMF does not have the corresponding UE context information, it uses UE ID1 or UE ID2 (such as IMSI, SUPI, SUCI) to request UE context information from UDM, and can indicate User ID or indication information 2 (indication, flag, etc.) to UDM (which can be received from the terminal, or received from the terminal in the previous registration process, or received from step 4 or 21 in the previous registration process, or indication information obtained based on the aforementioned indication information - for example, the terminal indicates Multiple User Capable, or UDM returns Allowed Multiple User, then AMF indicates Request User Info).
- UE ID1 or UE ID2 such as IMSI, SUPI, SUCI
- User ID or indication information 2 indication, flag, etc.
- Step 3a UDM initiates an authentication process with the UE to authenticate the terminal based on the UE ID (e.g., AKA authentication process based on the SIM card).
- Step 3b After step 2 (implementation without authentication), or after step 3b, optionally, there are several possible implementations:
- UDM Based on the received indication information 2 or User ID, UDM indicates at least one of the User ID and UE ID (possibly through NEF), as well as optional indication information 3, to UPM (User Profile/Configuration Management Function).
- UPM returns at least one of indication information 4, configuration ID (Profile ID), User ID (may have multiple), and AAA-S addr based on User ID, User ID and UE ID, or indication information 3 and UE ID.
- Profile ID indicates user configuration information, which may be multiple.
- UDM obtains indication information 4, or obtains at least one of indication information 4, Profile ID (can be multiple), User ID (can be multiple), and AAA-S addr based on User ID, based on User ID and UE ID, or based on indication information 3 and UE ID.
- the value of Profile ID may be User ID.
- Indication 4 may be used for at least one of the following:
- step 3b is an internal process.
- Step 4 After step 2 (an implementation example where authentication is not required) or after authentication in step 3b is successful, UDM returns contract information to AMF, which may include at least one of indication information 4, Profile ID (can have multiple), User ID (can have multiple), and AAA-S addr.
- indication information 4 Profile ID (can have multiple), User ID (can have multiple), and AAA-S addr.
- Step 5 After step 1 or step 4 (after authentication is successful, or when no authentication is required), the AMF sends a registration acceptance message to the UE.
- Step 6 the AMF sends information for obtaining an ID and optional indication information 5 to the UE based on the information received from the UDM (which may be received in step 4 or in step 4 of the previous registration process) or based on the information received from the UE, such as a NAS message carrying an EAP ID Request message and optional indication information 5, indicating the request for User ID (rather than other IDs, such as UE ID, APP ID, etc.).
- Step 7 After step 6, the UE sends information indicating the ID to the AMF, such as a NAS message carrying an EAP ID Response message, which carries the User ID.
- the UE may send the aforementioned Response message carrying the User ID based on the indication information 5 in step 6 or based on the relevant information sent by the UE in step 1 (in this step, the AMF may not be able to or does not obtain the User ID because it is contained in a container that is transparent to the AMF).
- Steps 8-9 Based on the User ID received from the UDM, or based on the User ID received from the UE in step 1, or after executing step 7, the AMF sends information to the AAA-S (AAA Server) (possibly through the AAA-P (Proxy AAA)) with an EAP ID Response message (received from the UE, or generated based on the User ID), or with the information obtained in step 1 for indicating the identification or for sending to the AAA-S.
- the AAA-S addr is obtained from the terminal or UDM, and the EAP ID Response message carries the User ID (for example, an AAA protocol message carrying the EAP ID Response message is sent through the AAA protocol).
- At least one of the following ID information may be sent to AAA-S, for example, carried in an AAA protocol message.
- ID information for example, Transaction ID and Session ID for information exchange
- Profile ID User ID
- UE ID3 such as SUPI, GPSI, or MSISDN
- Mapping ID for UE which has a one-to-one mapping relationship with UE ID (one Mapping ID for UE matches one UE ID, but not necessarily vice versa)—may be sent to AAA-S, for example, carried in an AAA protocol message.
- the above-mentioned indication ID information, Profile ID, User ID, and UE ID3 are sent by AMF through calling the authentication operation of AAA-P with these information as input parameters, and then AAA-P sends the above-mentioned AAA protocol message to AAA-S to realize AMF sending the above-mentioned information to AAA-S.
- AAA-S interacts with UPM (same as the interaction between UDM and UPM in step 3b) to obtain at least one of indication information 4, Profile ID (can have multiple), and User ID (can have multiple).
- indication information 4 indicates that it is not allowed, jump directly to step 17, and AAA-S sends an EAP failure message.
- AAA-S sends authentication information to AMF (or through AAA-P), as well as at least one of the optional Profile ID, User ID, and UE ID (UE ID1, UE ID2, UE ID3, and Mapping ID for UE are collectively referred to as UE ID in this article).
- AMF Access Management Function
- AAA-P AAA-P
- UE ID1, UE ID2, UE ID3, and Mapping ID for UE are collectively referred to as UE ID in this article.
- an AAA protocol message carrying an EAP message is sent through the AAA protocol.
- the AAA protocol message may optionally include Profile ID, User ID, and UE ID.
- AAA-P receives the above information sent by AAA-S, and returns the above information used for authentication to AMF, as well as optional Profile ID, User ID, and UE ID.
- Step 12 AMF matches the UE ID based on the Profile ID or User ID, and sends a NAS message for authentication to the corresponding UE, such as a NAS message carrying the received EAP message.
- Step 13 The UE sends information for authentication to the AMF, such as a NAS message carrying an EAP message.
- Steps 14-15 Similar to steps 8-9, except that the information received from the UE for authentication is forwarded instead of being generated.
- Step 16 Optionally, AAA-S and UE complete the authentication process based on User ID.
- AAA-S sends information indicating the authentication result, as well as at least one of the optional Profile ID or Selected Profile ID, User ID, and UE ID to AMF.
- the information indicating the authentication result is an EAP success message or an EAP failure message
- the information indicating the authentication result, as well as the optional Profile ID, User ID, and UE ID are carried in an AAA protocol message.
- AAA-S notifies UPM of at least one of User ID, UE ID, and Profile ID, and UPM selects configuration information or Profile ID related to the configuration information based on the information.
- UPM and AAA-S are jointly set up.
- UPM uses at least one of the configuration information, Profile ID, and update indication to update the UE-related information in the UDR (possibly through the NEF).
- the UDR notifies the PCF, and the PCF updates the UE's policy information. If there is an update indication, the PCF invalidates the old configuration, uses the new configuration, and notifies the UE of the updated information.
- AAA-S sends the above information to AMF through AAA-P (for example, AAA-S sends the above AAA protocol message, and AAA-P returns information indicating the authentication result to AMF, as well as optional Profile ID, User ID, and UE ID).
- Step 19 AMF matches the UE ID based on the Profile ID or User ID, and forwards information indicating the authentication result to the corresponding UE, such as sending a NAS message carrying an EAP success message or an EAP failure message.
- the AMF sends at least one of the Profile ID and User ID to the UE, for example, via a NAS message.
- This embodiment mainly introduces the registration-related process, which is initiated by the UE. As shown in FIG6 , this embodiment includes the following steps:
- Step 1 The user uses the terminal UE as identified by the user identity (User ID), for example, by entering the user identity in the UI interface of the UE to replace the default user (the user identified by the SIM card information in the UE - called the terminal user) to use the terminal UE.
- the UE sends a Registration Request (DN Request Container, [AAA-S address]) to the core network.
- DN Request Container [AAA-S address]
- Step 2 If AMF does not have the corresponding UE context information, it requests the UDM for the UE context information.
- Step 3a UDM initiates an authentication process with the UE to authenticate the terminal based on the UE ID (e.g., AKA authentication process based on the SIM card).
- Step 3b After step 2 (implementation without authentication), or after the authentication of step 3a is successful, UDM returns a feature indication to indicate that the UE has signed up for the service.
- Step 4 After step 2 (implementation without authentication) or step 3, UDM returns the subscription information to AMF, including feature indication, indicating that UE has subscribed to the service.
- the indication can also be indicated by AAA-S Address.
- Step 5-6 After step 1 or step 4 (after authentication is passed, or when no authentication is required), AMF sends DN Request Container, GPSI to AAA-S based on feature indication. In the case of AAA-P deployment, DN Request Container, GPSI and AAA-S addr are sent to AAA-P, which forwards it to AAA-S. AAA-P can also obtain AAA-S address based on User ID (NAI format - user-name@domain-name) in DN Request Container.
- NAI format - user-name@domain-name User ID
- Steps 7-8 AAA-S performs authorization based on GPSI and User ID. If authorization fails, execute steps 14-16.
- AAA-S sends authentication information and GPSI to AMF (or through AAA-P).
- Step 9 AMF sends a NAS message for authentication to the corresponding UE.
- the NAS message carries the received DN Request Container.
- Step 10 UE sends authentication information, such as DN Request Container, to AMF.

- Steps 14-15 AAA-S sends GPSI, Profile ID, and information indicating the authentication result to AMF.
- Step 16 AMF sends Registration Accept (Success/Failure) to UE.
- Step 17 AMF sends an update indication to PCF, carrying the Profile ID.
- Step 18 Optionally, after successful authentication, AAA-S selects the Profile ID to be used based on User ID and GPSI, and sends GPSI and Profile ID to NEF. NEF sends SUPI and Profile ID to UDR to update UE-related configuration information.
- Step 19 UDR notifies PCF that the configuration has been updated.
- Step 20 PCF can learn the new configuration based on Profile ID, such as from UDR, or UDR can notify PCF of the new configuration information.
- PCF generates a new policy using the new configuration. If the policy needs to be updated, PCF notifies UE, SMF, etc. of the new policy information.

A、UDM基于收到的指示信息2或User ID向UPM(User Profile/Configuration Management Function)指示User ID和UE ID中的至少一项(可以通过NEF),以及可选的指示信息3。
UE向核心网发送Registration Request(DN Request Container,[AAA-S address])。
步骤16:AMF向UE发送Registration Accept(Success/Failure)。
