본 문서에 개시된 실시예들은 배터리 관리 장치 및 배터리 관리 방법에 관한 것이다.
최근 이차 전지에 대한 연구 개발이 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 여기서 이차 전지는 충방전이 가능한 전지로서, 종래의 Ni/Cd 전지, Ni/MH 전지 등과 최근의 리튬 이온 전지를 모두 포함하는 의미이다. 이차 전지 중 리튬 이온 전지는 종래의 Ni/Cd 전지, Ni/MH 전지 등에 비하여 에너지 밀도가 훨씬 높다는 장점이 있다, 또한, 리튬 이온 전지는 소형, 경량으로 제작할 수 있어서, 이동 기기의 전원으로 사용된다. 또한, 리튬 이온 전지는 전기 자동차의 전원으로 사용 범위가 확장되어 차세대 에너지 저장 매체로 주목을 받고 있다.
이러한 배터리에 조립 결함 배터리 셀이 존재할 경우, 충방전 과정에서 발열 또는 발화가 발생하여 안전상의 위험이 발생할 수 있으므로 조립 결함 배터리 셀 검출 알고리즘에 관한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 일반적으로 조립 결함 배터리 셀을 검출하기 위해서는 원시 데이터의 평활화 없이 원시 데이터를 그대로 활용하였으므로 프로파일이 산발적인 형태를 나타내어 결함 배터리 셀 검출이 어려운 문제점이 있었다.
본 문서에 개시된 일 실시예에 따르면, 원시 배터리 데이터에 지수 평활을 적용하여 결함 배터리 셀을 검출하는 배터리 관리 장치 및 배터리 관리 방법을 제공한다.

일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치는, 배터리 셀의 전압 데이터를 포함하는 배터리 데이터를 수신하는 통신부 및 상기 배터리 데이터에 기초하여 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 생성하고, 상기 전압 데이터와 상기 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 평활화하여 전압 평활 데이터와 방전용량 평활 데이터를 획득하고, 상기 전압 평활 데이터와 상기 방전용량 평활 데이터가 불량 판정 조건을 만족하는 것에 기초하여 상기 배터리 셀을 불량으로 결정하는 제어부를 포함한다.

구체적으로, 도 1은 본 문서에 개시된 일 실시 예에 따른 배터리 시스템(10)과 상위 시스템에 포함되어 있는 상위 제어기(20)를 개략적으로 도시한다.

복수의 배터리 모듈(12)은 충방전 가능한 적어도 하나의 배터리 셀(13)들을 포함할 수 있다. 배터리 셀(13)은 양극, 양극재, 음극, 음극재, 분리막, 전해질, 폴리머 및 케이스를 포함할 수 있다. 이 때, 복수의 배터리 모듈(12)은 직렬 또는 병렬로 연결될 수 있다.
센서부(14)는 전압 센서(2), 전류 센서(3) 및 온도 센서(미도시)를 포함할 수 있다.
전압 센서(2)는 배터리에 병렬 연결되어, 배터리의 양단에 걸친 전압인 배터리 전압을 검출하고, 검출된 배터리 전압을 나타내는 전압 신호를 생성하도록 구성될 수 있다.
전류 센서(3)는, 배터리 셀(13)의 SOC를 결정하는 과정에서 활용되는 전류를 검출할 수 있다.
전류 센서(3)는, 충전 전류의 크기에 상응하는 신호를 생성하는 모든 구성을 포함할 수 있고, 전류 센서(3)는 배터리에서 충방전 전류가 흐르는 경로인 충방전 경로 상에 설치될 수 있다.
전류 센서(3)는 배터리에 흐르는 배터리 전류 즉, 충전 전류 및 방전 전류를 측정하고, 측정 결과를 배터리 관리 장치(1)에 전달할 수 있다. 일 실시예에 따라, 전류 센서(3)는, 외부장치의 전력으로 배터리를 충전하는 충전 사이클 또는 배터리를 방전하는 방전 사이클에서, 소정 주기로 배터리 전류를 측정하고, 측정결과를 배터리 관리 장치(1)에 전달할 수 있다.
온도 센서는, 배터리 온도를 측정하고, 측정된 배터리 온도를 나타내는 온도 신호를 생성하도록 구성될 수 있다. 온도 센서는, 배터리의 실제 온도와 근접한 온도를 측정할 수 있도록, 케이스 내에 배치될 수 있다. 예컨대, 온도 센서는 셀 그룹에 포함된 적어도 하나의 배터리 셀의 표면에 부착될 수 있으며, 배터리 셀의 표면 온도를 배터리 온도로서 검출할 수 있다.
온도 센서는, 배터리로부터 이격된 소정 위치의 온도인 외부 온도를 측정하고, 측정된 외부 온도를 나타내는 온도 신호를 생성하도록 구성될 수도 있다. 온도 센서는, 배터리와 분위기 간의 열 교환이 이루어지는 케이스 외부의 소정 위치에 배치될 수 있다. 실시예에 따르면, 온도 센서는 열전대, 서미스터 또는 바이메탈 등과 같은 공지의 온도 검출 소자들 중 하나 또는 둘 이상의 조합으로 구현될 수 있다. 배터리 시스템(10)에 흐르는 전류를 검출할 수 있다. 이 때, 검출 신호는 배터리 관리 장치(1)로 전달될 수 있다.
도 1에서는 센서부(14)가 배터리 셀(13)의 양극과 스위칭 부(16) 사이에 연결되어 있으나, 도 1에 도시된 구성들 및 구성들 간의 연결 관계는 일 예로서, 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
스위칭 부(16)는 배터리 모듈(12)의 (+) 단자 측 또는 (-) 단자 측에 직렬로 연결되어 배터리 모듈(12)의 충방전 전류 흐름을 제어할 수 있다. 예를 들면, 스위칭 부(16)는 배터리 시스템(10)의 사양에 따라서 적어도 하나의 릴레이, 마그네틱 접촉기 등이 이용될 수 있다.
배터리 관리 장치(1)는 배터리 시스템(10)의 전압, 전류 및 온도 등을 모니터링하여, 과충전 및 과방전 등을 방지하도록 제어 관리할 수 있으며, 예를 들면, BMS(Battery Management System)를 포함할 수 있다.
배터리 관리 장치(1)는 각종 파라미터를 측정한 값을 입력 받는 인터페이스로서, 복수의 단자와, 이들 단자와 연결되어 입력 받은 값들의 처리를 수행하는 회로 등을 포함할 수 있다. 또한, 배터리 관리 장치(1)는, 스위칭 부(16) 예를 들어, 릴레이 또는 접촉기 등의 ON/OFF를 제어할 수도 있으며, 배터리 모듈(12)에 연결되어 배터리 모듈(12) 각각의 상태를 감시할 수 있다.
또한, 배터리 관리 장치(1)는 센서부(14)로부터 온도 데이터, 전압 데이터, 및 전류 데이터를 수신하여 배터리 상태 정보를 획득하고, 배터리의 상태를 진단할 수 있다.
상위 제어기(20)는 배터리 모듈(12)을 제어하기 위한 제어 신호를 배터리 관리 장치(1)에 전송할 수 있다. 이에 따라, 배터리 관리 장치(1)는 상위 제어기(20)로부터 인가되는 제어 신호에 기초하여 동작이 제어될 수 있다. 또한, 배터리 모듈(12)은 ESS(Energy Storage System)에 포함된 구성일 수 있다. 이러한 경우, 상위 제어기(20)는 복수의 배터리 시스템(10)을 포함하는 배터리 뱅크의 제어기(BBMS) 또는 복수의 뱅크를 포함하는 ESS 전체를 제어하는 ESS 제어기일 수 있다. 다만, 배터리 시스템(10)은 이러한 용도에 한정되는 것은 아니다.

도 2를 참조하면, 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치(1)는 적어도 하나의 프로세서(110)와 메모리(120)를 포함하는 제어부(100) 및 통신부(200)를 포함하고, 통신부(200)를 통해 외부 장치(4)와 통신하여 배터리를 진단할 수 있다.
실시예에 따르면, 배터리 관리 장치(1)와 통신하는 외부 장치(4)는 배터리 관리 장치(1)에 의해 진단된 결과를 송신하는 사용자 단말 및 서버 장치를 포함할 수 있다.
구체적으로, 외부 장치(4)가 사용자 단말인 경우, 배터리 관리 장치(1)의 제어부(100)는 배터리의 진단 결과를 사용자가 확인할 수 있도록 사용자 단말로 송신할 수 있다. 이때, 사용자 단말은 퍼스널 컴퓨터(personal computer), 단말기(terminal), 휴대폰(portable telephone), 스마트 폰(smart phone), 휴대 장치(handheld device), 착용 장치(wearable device) 등을 포함할 수 있으나, 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
또한, 외부 장치(4)가 서버 장치인 경우, 서버 장치는 워크스테이션(workstation), 클라우드(cloud), 데이터 드라이브(data drive), 데이터 스테이션(data station) 등 다양한 컴퓨팅 디바이스로 구현될 수 있다. 서버 장치는 기능, 기능의 세부 구성 또는 데이터 등을 기준으로 물리적 또는 논리적으로 구분된 하나 이상의 서버 장치로 구현될 수 있으며, 각 서버 장치 간의 통신을 통해 데이터를 송수신하고 송수신된 데이터를 처리할 수 있다.
일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치(1)는 프로세서(110)와 메모리(120)가 포함된 모든 전자 장치를 의미할 수 있으며, 차량에 탑재되어 동작할 수 있다. 이하 배터리 관리 장치(1)의 각 구성요소를 상세히 설명한다.
통신부(200)는 외부 장치(4)와 통신하기 위해 무선 통신부(210)와 유선 통신부(220)를 포함할 수 있다. 통신부(200)는 별도로 마련된 외부 서버로부터 배터리 셀의 특성값 산출, 클래스 분류 및 수명 추정을 위한 프로그램이나 각종 데이터 등을 송수신할 수 있다.
무선 통신부(210)는 근거리 통신 모듈과 원거리 통신 모듈 중 적어도 하나를 포함할 수 있다.
근거리 통신 모듈은, 근거리 통신 방법을 이용하여 배터리 관리 장치(1)와 인접한 외부 장치(4)와 통신할 수 있다. 여기서, 근거리 통신 모듈은 블루투스(bluetooth), 블루투스 저 에너지(bluetooth low energy), 적외선 통신(IrDA, infrared data association), 지그비(Zigbee), 와이파이(Wi-Fi), 와이파이 다이렉트(Wi-Fi direct), UWB(Ultra Wideband), 또는 근접장 통신(NFC, near field communication)을 중 하나의 통신 방법을 활용할 수 있다.
원거리 통신 모듈은, 다양한 종류의 원거리 통신을 수행하는 통신 모듈을 포함할 수 있으며, 이동 통신부를 포함할 수 있다. 이동 통신부는 이동 통신망 상에서 기지국, 외부의 단말, 외부 장치(4) 중 적어도 하나와 무선 신호를 송수신할 수 있다. 또한, 원거리 통신 모듈은 주변의 접속 중계기(AP: Access point)를 통해 외부 장치(4) 또는 다른 전자 장치 등의 외부 장치(4)와 통신할 수 있다. 접속 중계기(AP)는 배터리 관리 장치(1)가 연결된 지역 네트워크(LAN)를 통신 서버가 연결된 광역 네트워크(WAN)에 연결시킬 수 있다. 이에 따라 배터리 관리 장치(1)는 외부 장치(4)와 광역 네트워크(WAN)를 통해 통신 서버에 연결되어 서로 통신할 수 있다.
유선 통신부(220)는 유선 통신망에 접속하고 유선 통신망을 통하여 외부 장치(4)와 통신할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 유선 통신부(220)는 이더넷(Ethernet, IEEE 802.3 기술 표준)을 통하여 유선 통신망에 접속하거나, 캔(CAN)통신을 통하여 유선 통신망에 접속하고, 유선 통신망을 통하여 외부 장치(4)들과 데이터를 송수신할 수 있다.
일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치(1)는 입출력 인터페이스(미도시)를 포함할 수 있다. 키보드, 마우스, 터치 패널 등의 입력 장치(미도시)와 디스플레이(미도시) 등의 출력 장치와 프로세서(110) 사이를 연결하여 데이터를 송수신할 수 있도록 하는 인터페이스를 제공할 수 있다.
메모리(120)는 배터리 관리 장치(1)의 구동에 필요한 각종 정보를 저장할 수 있다. 구체적으로, 메모리(120)는 배터리 관리 장치(1)의 구동에 필요한 운영체제 및 프로그램을 저장하거나, 배터리 관리 장치(1)의 구동에 필요한 데이터를 저장할 수 있다.
구체적으로, 메모리(120)는 배터리 셀의 특성값 산출, 클래스 분류 및 수명 추정에 관한 각종 프로그램을 저장할 수 있다. 또한, 메모리(120)는 배터리 셀 각각의 전압, 전류, 특성값 데이터 등 각종 데이터를 저장할 수 있다.
또한, 메모리(120)는 프로세서(110)에 의해 활용되는 배터리 셀(13)의 불량 판정 조건을 저장할 수 있다.
메모리(120)는 데이터를 일시적으로 기억하기 위한 S-램(Static Random Access Memory, S-RAM), D-램(Dynamic Random Access Memory)과 같은 휘발성 메모리(120)를 포함할 수 있다. 또한, 메모리(120)는 데이터를 장기간 저장하기 위한 롬(Read Only Memory), 이피롬(Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory: EPROM), 이이피롬(Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory: EEPROM)과 같은 비휘발성 메모리(120)를 포함할 수 있다.
프로세서(110)는 제어 신호를 출력하여 배터리 관리 장치(1)를 전반적으로 제어한다. 프로세서(110)는 하나 또는 복수 개의 CPU(central processing unit) 및 GPU(Graphics Processing Unit)를 포함할 수 있다. 이때, 프로세서(110)는 다수의 논리 게이트들의 어레이로 구현될 수도 있고, 범용적인 마이크로 프로세서(110)와 마이크로 프로세서(110)에서 실행될 수 있는 프로그램이 저장된 메모리(120)의 조합으로 구현될 수도 있다.
전술한 메모리(120)와 프로세서(110)는 제어부(100)에 포함될 수 있으며, 제어부(100)는 전술한 구성요소를 제어하여 배터리 셀에 불량이 발생하였는지 여부를 결정할 수 있다.
제어부(100)는 배터리 데이터에 기초하여 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 생성하고, 전압 데이터와 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 평활화하여 전압 평활 데이터와 방전용량 평활 데이터를 획득할 수 있다. 이때, 제어부(100)는 지수 평활(exponential smoothing)에 적용되는 평활 계수에 기초하여 전압 데이터와 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 지수 평활화할 수 있다.
구체적으로, 제어부(100)는 과거 예측값과 과거 관측값의 가중 평균으로 예측값을 획득하여 전압 데이터와 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 지수 평활화할 수 있다.
제어부(100)는 전압 평활 데이터와 방전용량 평활 데이터가 불량 판정 조건을 만족하는 것에 기초하여 배터리 셀을 불량으로 결정할 수 있으며, 불량으로 결정된 배터리 셀의 정보를 통신부(200)를 통해 외부 장치(4)로 전송할 수 있다.
제어부(100)는 전압 평활 데이터와 방전용량 평활 데이터가 미리 설정된 판정 구간 내에서 불량 판정 조건을 동시에 만족하는 것에 기초하여 배터리 셀을 불량으로 결정할 수 있다. 이에 따르면, 제어부(100)는 배터리 셀의 불량 여부를 두 개의 조건으로 판단하여 오진단을 감소시키고 정확한 진단을 제공할 수 있다.
제어부(100)는 배터리 셀의 불량 판정 조건과 관련하여, 전압 평활 데이터가 미리 설정된 단위 시간 동안 복수의 배터리 셀의 전압 평균보다 작고, 방전용량 평활 데이터가 단위 시간 동안 복수의 배터리 셀의 방전용량 변화율보다 큰 경우를 불량 판정 조건이 만족된 것으로 결정할 수 있다.
또한, 제어부(100)는 판정 구간 내에서 전압 평활 데이터가 전압 평균 미만인 횟수와 방전용량 평활 데이터가 방전용량 변화율을 초과하는 횟수가 미리 설정된 기준 횟수 이상인 것에 기초하여, 불량 판정 조건을 각각 만족한 것으로 결정할 수 있다.
이와 같이 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치(1)는 원시 배터리 데이터를 평활화하고, 전압 평활 데이터와 방전용량 평활 데이터를 모두 활용하여 배터리 셀에 불량이 발생하였는지 여부를 진단할 수 있으므로, 진단의 신뢰도가 향상되는 현저한 효과가 있다.
도 3은 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치가 배터리의 불량 여부를 판단하는 흐름을 개략적으로 도시한다. 도 3에서 101 내지 103의 구성들은 소프트웨어 블록 형태로 구현되며, 메모리(120)에 저장되어 프로세서(110)에 의해 실행될 수 있다.
제어부(100)는 센서부로부터 배터리 셀의 배터리 데이터를 수신할 수 있으며, 구체적으로 제어부(100)는 전압 센서(2)로부터 전압 데이터를 수신하고, 전류 센서(3)로부터 전류 데이터를 수신할 수 있다.
제어부(100)의 방전용량 데이터 생성부(101)에서는 전류-전압 데이터의 적분으로 방전 용량 데이터를 생성할 수 있다. 즉, 제어부(100)는 전류-전압 데이터를 적분하여, 일정한 전류 하에서 시간에 따른 전압을 의미하는 방전 곡선의 면적을 획득할 수 있으며, 방전 곡선의 면적으로 방전용량 데이터를 생성할 수 있다.
또한 제어부(100)는 방전용량 데이터의 변화율로 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 생성할 수 있으며, 제어부(100)는 각 시간 간격에 따른 방전용량 데이터 포인트를 사용하여 이전 데이터 포인트와의 차이인 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 생성할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 두 연속적인 데이터 포인트 (ti, Ci)와 (ti+1, Ci+1)에 대하여, 방전용량 변화율 R은 아래의 수학식으로 계산될 수 있다.
여기에서, Ci 와 Ci+1는 두 연속적인 시간 간격에 대한 방전용량을 의미하고, ti와 ti+1은 각각 Ci 와 Ci+1의 측정 시간을 의미할 수 있다.
이후, 제어부(100)의 지수평활 수행부(102)는 수신된 전압 데이터와 방전용량 변화율 데이터에 대하여 지수평활(Exponential Smoothing)을 수행할 수 있으며, 지수평활은 시계열 배터리 데이터를 부드럽게 만들어 트렌드나 계절성을 제거하고 노이즈를 완화할 수 있다.
제어부(100)는 단순 지수평활 또는 이중 지수평활에 기초하여 전압 데이터와 방전용량 데이터를 평활화 할 수 있으나, 데이터를 평활화 할 수 있는 방법이라면 그 제한이 없다.
제어부(100)의 불량 여부 판단부(103)에서는 평활화 된 전압 평활 데이터와 방전용량 평활 데이터가 일정 조건을 만족하는 경우, 배터리 셀을 불량으로 결정할 수 있다.
즉, 제어부(100)는 전압 평활 데이터와 방전용량 평활 데이터가 각각 불량 판정 조건을 만족하여 두 조건이 모두 충족된 경우에 배터리 셀을 불량으로 결정할 수 있다. 이때, 제어부(100)는 전압 평활 데이터나 방전용량 평활 데이터 중에서 어느 하나의 데이터만 불량 판정 조건을 만족하는 경우에는 배터리 셀을 정상으로 결정하여 오진단을 막을 수 있다.
이후 제어부(100)는 불량 또는 정상으로 판단된 배터리 셀의 정보를 외부 장치(4)로 전송할 수 있고, 배터리 사용자 또는 관리자는 외부 장치(4)를 통해 원격으로 배터리 셀의 불량 여부를 확인할 수 있다.
도 4A는 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치에서 활용되는 방전용량 변화율의 원시 데이터를 도시하고, 도 4B는 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치에서 활용되는 전압의 원시 데이터를 도시한다.
먼저, 도 4A를 참조하면 제어부(100)는 배터리 데이터에 기초하여 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 획득할 수 있고, 방전용량 변화율 데이터는 도 4A와 같이 방전용량 변화율 그래프로 도시될 수 있다.
또한, 도 4B를 참조하면, 제어부(100)는 배터리 데이터에 포함되는 전압 데이터를 획득할 수 있고, 전압 데이터는 도 4B와 같이 전압 그래프로 도시될 수 있다.
도 4A 및 도 4B에서와 같이, 지수 평활 없는 원시 데이터(raw data)는 프로파일이 산발적인 형태를 나타내므로, 종래 기술과 같이 원시 데이터를 활용하여 배터리의 불량 여부를 판단하게 되면, 불량 여부 선별 스펙의 선정이 어려워질 수 있다.
이에 따라, 종래 기술과 같이 원시 데이터를 활용하여 배터리의 불량 여부를 판단할 경우, 불량 검출력이 감소되므로 배터리 불량을 검출하지 못하여 배터리 발화 및 사고의 원인이 될 수 있다.
구체적으로, 도 4A에서는 평활화 되지 않은 원시 데이터이므로 방전용량 변화율 그래프의 변동폭(a)이 6에 근접한 것을 확인할 수 있다. 또한, 도 4B에서도 마찬가지로 원시 데이터이므로 전압 그래프의 변동폭(a)이 150초에서 150에 근접한 것을 확인할 수 있다.
이처럼, 원시 데이터는 평활화 데이터에 비해 변동폭이 크고, 노이즈가 많으므로 실제 데이터를 왜곡시키고 배터리 불량 검출을 위한 해석의 정확도를 감소시킬 수 있다.
반면, 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치(1)에 의하면 평활화를 통해 배터리 데이터의 변동성을 감소시키고, 배터리 데이터의 불안정성을 최소화할 수 있다. 이에 따라 배터리의 성능 저하의 오검출을 방지하고, 배터리 불량 진단 시 오차를 최소화할 수 있다.
도 5A는 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치에서 활용되는 방전용량 변화율의 평활 데이터를 도시하고, 도 5B는 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치에서 활용되는 전압의 평활 데이터를 도시한다.
먼저, 도 5A를 참조하면 제어부(100)는 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 지수 평활화 하여 방전용량 평활 데이터를 획득할 수 있고, 방전용량 평활 데이터는 도 5A와 같이 방전용량 변화율 그래프로 도시될 수 있다.
또한, 도 5B를 참조하면, 제어부(100)는 전압 데이터를 지수 평활화하여 전압 평활 데이터를 획득할 수 있고, 전압 평활 데이터는 도 5B와 같이 전압 그래프로 도시될 수 있다.
도 5A 및 도 5B에서와 같이, 평활화된 평활 데이터는 프로파일이 부드러운 형태를 나타내므로, 배터리 불량 선별 스펙 선정이 용이하고 상대적으로 검출력이 향상되는 효과가 있다.
이에 따라, 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치(1)와 같이 평활 데이터를 활용하여 배터리의 불량 여부를 판단할 경우, 불량 검출력이 증가되므로 배터리 발화 및 유관 사고를 미연에 방지할 수 있다.
구체적으로, 도 5A에서는 평활화 된 방전용량 평활 데이터이므로 방전용량 변화율 그래프의 변동폭(a)이 0.8로 원시 데이터에 비해 감소한 것을 확인할 수 있다. 또한, 도 5B에서도 마찬가지로 평활화 된 전압 평활 데이터이므로 전압 그래프의 변동폭(a)이 150초에서 40으로 감소한 것을 확인할 수 있다.
이처럼, 평활화 데이터는 원시 데이터에 비해 변동폭이 작고, 시간에 따른 변화를 관찰하기 용이하며, 노이즈가 적으므로 배터리 불량 검출을 위한 해석의 정확도를 증가시킬 수 있다.
이하에서는 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치(1)가 평활화 된 데이터에 기초하여 배터리 셀의 불량 여부를 판단하는 불량 판정 조건에 대해 설명한다.
도 6은 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치에서 활용되는 불량 판정 조건을 도시한다.
도 6을 참조하면, 제어부(100)는 전압 평활 데이터 및 방전용량 평활 데이터가 불량 판정 조건인 단위시간 판정조건(a), 최소 판정조건(b), 최대 판정조건(c) 및 카운트 판정조건(d) 중에서 적어도 하나 이상 만족하는지 여부를 결정할 수 있다.
또한, 제어부(100)는 전압 평활 데이터 및 방전용량 평활 데이터 각각이 불량 판정 조건 중 어느 하나를 만족하는지 여부를 결정할 수 있고, 제어부(100)는 전압 평활 데이터 및 방전용량 평활 데이터 각각이 불량 판정 조건 중 어느 하나라도 만족하는 경우를 배터리 셀 불량으로 결정할 수 있다.
즉, 제어부(100)는 전압 평활 데이터가 불량 판정 조건 중 적어도 하나를 만족하였더라도, 방전용량 평활 데이터가 불량 판정 조건 중 어느 하나도 만족하지 못한 경우에는 배터리 불량이 아닌 것으로 결정할 수 있고, 제어부(100)는 방전용량 평활 데이터가 불량 판정 조건 중 적어도 하나를 만족하였더라도, 전압 평활 데이터가 불량 판정 조건 중 어느 하나도 만족하지 못한 경우에는 배터리 불량이 아닌 것으로 결정할 수 있다.
이를 통해, 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치(1)는 배터리 불량 여부를 엄격하고 정확하게 결정할 수 있다.
구체적으로 제어부(100)는 전체 판정 구간을 설정할 수 있으며, 예를 들어 0초부터 300초까지의 판정 구간을 설정할 수 있다.
이후, 제어부(100)는 전압과 관련된 단위시간 판정조건(a)의 경우, 판정 구간 내에서 하나의 배터리 트레이 내에 포함되는 배터리 셀의 평균 전압이 -45mV 미만일때 배터리가 불량 판정 조건을 만족한 것으로 결정할 수 있다.
또한, 제어부(100)는 방전용량 변화율과 관련된 단위시간 판정조건(a)의 경우, 판정 구간 내에서 하나의 배터리 트레이 내에 포함되는 배터리 셀의 평균 방전용량 변화율이 0.4 이상일때 배터리가 불량 판정 조건을 만족한 것으로 결정할 수 있다.
제어부(100)는 전압과 관련된 최소 판정조건(b) 및 최대 판정조건(c)의 경우, 전압 평활 데이터의 불량 여부 판단을 최소 221초부터 최대 280초까지의 범위에서 수행하여 불량 여부를 결정할 수 있다.
또한, 제어부(100)는 방전용량 변화율과 관련된 최소 판정조건(b) 및 최대 판정조건(c)의 경우, 전압 평활 데이터의 불량 여부 판단을 최소 221초부터 최대 280초까지의 범위에서 수행하여 불량 여부를 결정할 수 있다.
즉, 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치(1)는 최소 판정조건(b)과 최대 판정조건(c)을 한정하여 배터리의 불량 여부를 판단하기 위한 최적의 판단 범위를 설정할 수 있으며, 최소 판정조건(b)과 최대 판정조건(c)은 실험에 의해 설정될 수 있다.
제어부(100)는 전압과 관련된 카운트 판정조건(d)의 경우, 판정구간 내 전압 평활 데이터가 불량 여부로 판단된 횟수를 카운트하여, 카운트 횟수가 59회 이상이면 배터리 불량으로 결정할 수 있다.
또한, 제어부(100)는 방전용량 변화율과 관련된 카운트 판정조건(d)의 경우, 판정구간 내 방전용량 평활 데이터가 불량 여부로 판단된 횟수를 카운트하여, 카운트 횟수가 65회 이상이면 배터리 불량으로 결정할 수 있다.
즉, 제어부(100)는 전압 평활 데이터가 위에서 설명한 단위시간 판정조건(a), 최소 판정조건(b), 최대 판정조건(c) 및 카운트 판정조건(d) 중 적어도 하나를 만족하고, 방전용량 평활 데이터가 단위시간 판정조건(a), 최소 판정조건(b), 최대 판정조건(c) 및 카운트 판정조건(d) 중 적어도 하나를 동시에 만족하는 경우를 배터리 불량으로 결정할 수 있다.
도 7은 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 방법의 제어 흐름도를 도시한다.
도 7을 참조하면, 제어부(100)는 복수의 배터리 셀의 배터리 데이터를 수신할 수 있다(700). 이때, 제어부(100)가 수신하는 배터리 데이터는 배터리 셀 단위이거나 배터리 모듈 단위일 수도 있다.
이후 제어부(100)는 배터리 데이터에 기초하여 전압 데이터를 생성할 수 있고, 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 생성할 수 있다(710). 전압 데이터는 배터리 데이터에서 전압값을 추출하여 시계열적으로 나열한 데이터를 의미할 수 있으며, 방전용량 변화율 데이터는 전류 및 전압 데이터에 기초하여 계산된 방전용량의 변화율 데이터를 의미할 수 있다.
제어부(100)는 전압 데이터 및 방전용량 변화율 원시 데이터에 지수 평활 로직을 적용하여 지수 평활을 수행할 수 있다(720). 이에 따라, 제어부(100)는 원시 데이터를 스무딩(smoothing)하여 불량 배터리 검출력을 향상시킬 수 있다.
이후 제어부(100)는 전압 평활 데이터가 복수의 배터리 셀의 전압 평균보다 작은 불량 판정 횟수가 기준 횟수를 초과하는지 여부를 결정할 수 있다(730).

제어부(100)는 방전용량 평활 데이터가 방전용량 변화율 평균보다 작은 불량 판정 횟수가 기준 횟수를 초과하는 것으로 결정되면(740의 예), 배터리 셀을 불량으로 결정할 수 있다(750).
이때, 제어부(100)가 전압 평활 데이터와 방전용량 평활 데이터의 불량 여부 판정을 수행하는 순서는 제한이 없으며, 위에서 설명한 것과 다르게 방전용량 평활 데이터의 불량 여부 판정을 먼저 수행할 수도 있다.
이와 같이 일 실시예에 따른 배터리 관리 장치(1)는 원시 데이터를 평활화한 전압 평활 데이터 및 방전용량 평활 데이터를 활용하므로, 보다 정밀하게 배터리 불량을 진단할 수 있는 효과가 있다.
한편, 개시된 실시예들은 컴퓨터에 의해 실행 가능한 명령어를 저장하는 기록매체의 형태로 구현될 수 있다. 명령어는 프로그램 코드의 형태로 저장될 수 있으며, 프로세서 의해 실행되었을 때, 프로그램 모듈을 생성하여 개시된 실시예들의 동작을 수행할 수 있다. 기록매체는 컴퓨터로 읽을 수 있는 기록매체로 구현될 수 있다.

- 배터리 셀의 전압 데이터를 포함하는 배터리 데이터를 수신하는 통신부; 및상기 배터리 데이터에 기초하여 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 생성하고, 상기 전압 데이터와 상기 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 평활화하여 전압 평활 데이터와 방전용량 평활 데이터를 획득하고, 상기 전압 평활 데이터와 상기 방전용량 평활 데이터가 불량 판정 조건을 만족하는 것에 기초하여 상기 배터리 셀을 불량으로 결정하는 제어부;를 포함하는 배터리 관리 장치.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 제어부는,지수 평활(exponential smoothing)에 적용되는 평활 계수에 기초하여 상기 전압 데이터와 상기 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 지수 평활화하는 배터리 관리 장치.
- 청구항 2에 있어서,상기 제어부는,과거 예측값과 과거 관측값의 가중 평균으로 예측값을 획득하여 상기 전압 데이터와 상기 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 지수 평활화하는 배터리 관리 장치.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 제어부는,상기 전압 평활 데이터와 상기 방전용량 평활 데이터가 미리 설정된 판정 구간 내에서 상기 불량 판정 조건을 동시에 만족하는 것에 기초하여 상기 배터리 셀을 불량으로 결정하는 배터리 관리 장치.
- 청구항 4에 있어서,상기 제어부는,상기 전압 평활 데이터가 미리 설정된 단위 시간 동안 복수의 배터리 셀의 전압 평균보다 작고, 상기 방전용량 평활 데이터가 상기 단위 시간 동안 복수의 배터리 셀의 방전용량 변화율보다 큰 것에 기초하여 상기 불량 판정 조건을 각각 만족한 것으로 결정하는 배터리 관리 장치.
- 청구항 5에 있어서,상기 제어부는,상기 판정 구간 내에서 상기 전압 평활 데이터가 상기 전압 평균의 미만인 횟수와 상기 방전용량 평활 데이터가 상기 방전용량 변화율을 초과하는 횟수가 미리 설정된 기준 횟수 이상인 것에 기초하여, 상기 불량 판정 조건을 각각 만족한 것으로 결정하는 배터리 관리 장치.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 제어부는,상기 불량으로 결정된 상기 배터리 셀에 관한 정보를 상기 통신부를 통해 외부 장치로 전송하는 배터리 관리 장치.
- 배터리 셀의 전압 데이터를 포함하는 배터리 데이터를 수신하고;상기 배터리 데이터에 기초하여 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 생성하고;상기 전압 데이터와 상기 방전용량 변화율 데이터를 평활화하여 전압 평활 데이터와 방전용량 평활 데이터를 획득하고;상기 전압 평활 데이터와 상기 방전용량 평활 데이터가 불량 판정 조건을 만족하는 것에 기초하여 상기 배터리 셀을 불량으로 결정하는 것;을 포함하는 배터리 관리 방법.

- 청구항 12에 있어서,상기 판정 구간 내에서 상기 전압 평활 데이터가 상기 전압 평균의 미만인 횟수와 상기 방전용량 평활 데이터가 상기 방전용량 변화율을 초과하는 횟수가 미리 설정된 기준 횟수 이상인 것에 기초하여, 상기 불량 판정 조건을 각각 만족한 것으로 결정하는 것;을 더 포함하는 배터리 관리 방법.
