It is desirable that most of the transfer line 4 be made of vacuum double pipes so that liquefied hydrogen can be transferred while maintaining its liquid phase state.

- the vent line 6 can be used as a path for discharging boil-off gas generated by heat input to the first tank 11 or the second tank 21.
- the branch line 7 is a route that bypasses a portion of the vent line 6, and is a pipe in which a thermometer 8 is disposed.
- the vent line 6 is provided with a branch section 6A and a junction section 6B that is disposed downstream of the branch section 6A in the exhaust direction.
- the upstream end of the branch line 7 is connected to the branch section 6A.
- the downstream end of the branch line 7 is connected to the junction section 6B.
- the branch line 7 is a line that branches off from the vent line 6 and then merges with the vent line 6 downstream of the branch position.
- the thermometer 8 measures the temperature of the gas flowing through the branch line 7.
- various types of non-electrical or electric thermometers can be used.
- a non-electrical thermometer for example, an insertion type thermometer such as a Bourdon tube thermometer, in which a probe is inserted into the piping of the branch line 7, can be used.
- an electric thermometer a thermocouple or a temperature sensor can be used.
- the use of a non-electrical thermometer has the advantage that electrical equipment such as a power supply can be omitted, simplifying the equipment configuration of the liquefied hydrogen transfer system TS1.
- nitrogen gas can be used to purge the transfer line from the beginning.
- nitrogen gas freezes, so it is necessary to initially purge the transfer line 4 with hydrogen gas or helium gas. After the temperature rises above the condensation/freezing point of nitrogen, the purge gas is switched to nitrogen gas to purge the transfer line 4.
- hot-up operations it is necessary to measure the gas temperature in the vent line that exhausts gases including purge gas. For example, hot-up is determined to be complete when it is confirmed that the gas temperature has reached room temperature. In addition, a decision is made to switch the purge gas from hydrogen gas to nitrogen gas when it is confirmed that the gas temperature has exceeded the condensation/solidification temperature of nitrogen gas.
- liquefied hydrogen flows through the vent line, such as in the early stages of hot-up. If a temperature sensor is exposed to the extremely low temperature cold contained in the liquefied hydrogen, the temperature sensor may be damaged. Even if no structural damage is sustained, the measurement accuracy of the thermometer may decrease. Therefore, in a liquefied hydrogen transfer system, it is important to protect the thermometer attached to the vent line and ensure the accuracy of temperature measurement.
- the liquefied hydrogen transfer system TS1 of this embodiment has a configuration that can solve the above-mentioned problems.
- the liquefied hydrogen transfer system TS1 has a vent line 6 and a branch line 7 that bypasses a portion of the vent line 6 and is equipped with a thermometer 8. Therefore, gas including the purge gas extracted from the transfer line 4 can be exhausted through two routes: a route that passes only through the vent line 6, and a route that passes through the branch line 7 equipped with the thermometer 8. Switching between these routes is achieved by operating an opening/closing valve (not shown) that is installed in the intermediate transfer equipment 3.
- purge gas is supplied to the transfer line 4 from the purge line 5.
- purge gas for example, hydrogen gas at room temperature is used at the beginning of the hot-up, and nitrogen gas is used after the temperature of the transfer line 4 has risen to a temperature at which nitrogen gas can be introduced.
- the purge gas cylinder 50 used is switched to correspond to this change in purge gas.
- the purge gas When exhausting the purge gas, whether to use a route that passes only through the vent line 6 or a route that passes through the branch line 7 depends on the temperature of the gas introduced into the vent line 6.
- the gas exhausted from the transfer line 4 is estimated to be at a low temperature below a predetermined threshold temperature, the gas is exhausted only through the vent line 6.
- the threshold temperature can be set appropriately, taking into consideration the temperature at which the thermometer 8 is not damaged.
- the timing at which the threshold temperature will be exceeded can be roughly determined by a heat calculation that takes into account the volume of the piping including the transfer line 4, and the amount of hydrogen gas supplied per unit time from the purge line 5 and the supply time.
- thermometer 8 When the exhaust is switched to a route that passes through branch line 7, the temperature of the gas flowing through branch line 7 is measured by thermometer 8. When the measurement value of thermometer 8 confirms that the gas temperature has exceeded the condensation/freezing point of nitrogen gas, the purge gas is switched from hydrogen gas to nitrogen gas. In other words, nitrogen gas is supplied from purge line 5 to transfer line 4. Exhaust via branch line 7 may continue as is until hot-up is complete. If cold remains in the bypassed portion of vent line 6, exhaust may be switched to a route that passes only through vent line 6.
- the liquefied hydrogen transfer system TS1 makes it possible to operate in a hot-up process such that when the gas exhausted from the transfer line 4 is at an extremely low temperature, it is exhausted through the vent line 6, and when it is assumed that the temperature of the gas has risen, the gas is exhausted via the branch line 7.
- This makes it possible to measure the temperature of the purged gas using a thermometer 8, which cannot be used in an extremely low temperature environment where the gas comes into contact with liquefied hydrogen. Therefore, even when purging the transfer line 4 in which liquefied hydrogen remains, the temperature of the gas sent to the vent line 6 can be accurately determined.
- thermometer 8 In the case of cool-down work performed before starting use of the liquefied hydrogen transfer system TS1, liquefied hydrogen is supplied to the transfer line 4 from the first tank 11 or the second tank 21. Because the transfer line 4 is at room temperature, most of the liquefied hydrogen is vaporized and enters the vent line 6, where it is exhausted. In the early stages of cool-down, the exhaust gas is relatively hot, so it is exhausted via a route that passes through the branch line 7. At this time, the temperature of the gas flowing through the branch line 7 is measured by the thermometer 8. Before the gas temperature falls below a temperature that can be measured by the thermometer 8, the exhaust route is switched to a route that passes only through the vent line 6. By performing the above operations, the thermometer 8 can be protected from the cold heat of the liquefied hydrogen.

- the liquefied hydrogen remains in the transfer line 4.
- the second valve 42, the third valve 43, the seventh valve 47, the eighth valve 48, and the ninth valve 49 are opened. Some of these valves 42, 43, 47, 48, and 49 may be closed to partially purge the transfer line 4.
- the fifth valve 45 and the sixth valve 46 are also closed to isolate the transport ship 10 and the container 20 from the purge system.
- the vent opening/closing valve 61 is opened, and the upstream valve 71 and the downstream valve 72 are closed (step S1). In other words, the branch line 7 is closed, and the gas including the purge gas passes only through the vent line 6 and is exhausted.
- the first purge valve 53 is opened and the second purge valve 54 is closed. That is, as shown by the arrow A1 in FIG. 4, hydrogen gas at room temperature is supplied as purge gas from the hydrogen gas cylinder 51 through the first branch line 5A and the purge line 5 to the transfer line 4 (step S2).

- blow purging A known method such as blow purging or pressure swing can be used as the purging method.
- blow purging purge gas is continuously supplied to the transfer line 4, and the liquefied hydrogen remaining in the transfer line 4 is expelled to the vent line 6.
- pressure swing the piping including the transfer line 4 is treated as a closed space and pressurized to fill with purge gas, and then depressurized to open the closed space, are repeated.

- the predetermined time is the time at which it is estimated that the temperature of the gas introduced from the transfer line 4 to the vent line 6 will rise to a temperature at which the thermometer 8 will not be damaged, for example, -200°C or higher. Whether the above-mentioned blow purge or pressure swing is used, this time can be roughly determined by a heat balance calculation that refers to the volume of the piping including the transfer line 4 and sub-line 9, the supply capacity of hydrogen gas at room temperature, etc. If the predetermined time has not elapsed (NO in step S3), the supply of hydrogen gas continues.
- step S3 if the predetermined time has elapsed (YES in step S3), the vent on-off valve 61 is closed, and the upstream valve 71 and downstream valve 72 are opened. In other words, the branch line 7 is opened, and the vent line 6 is partially closed (step S4).
- Figure 5 shows the state of the liquefied hydrogen transfer system TS2 after step S4 is performed. By operating the valves in step S4, the exhausted gas flows bypassing the branch line 7, as shown by arrow A5.
- thermometer 8 measures the temperature of the gas flowing through the branch line 7 (step S5). While continuing to supply hydrogen gas from the hydrogen gas cylinder 51, it is determined whether the gas temperature measured by the thermometer 8 has reached a predetermined temperature or higher (step S6).
- the predetermined temperature is a temperature that is set in advance as the temperature at which the purge gas is switched from hydrogen gas to nitrogen gas. This temperature is set to a temperature at which the nitrogen gas will not reliably condense or solidify. If the temperature has not reached the predetermined temperature or higher (NO in step S6), the supply of hydrogen gas and the measurement of the gas temperature continue.
- step S6 room temperature nitrogen gas is supplied from the nitrogen gas cylinder 52 as purge gas, as shown by the arrow A6 (step S8). That is, the first purge valve 53 is closed while the second purge valve 54 is opened, and nitrogen gas is supplied to the transfer line 4 through the second branch line 5B and the purge line 5.
- the purge gas passes through the transfer line 4 and the sub-line 9 as shown by the arrows A2 and A3, and is then exhausted only through the vent line 6 as shown by the arrow A7.
- step S9 it is determined whether the purging of the transfer line 4 with nitrogen gas has been completed. For example, the amount of nitrogen gas supplied, the supply time, etc. can be used as factors for the determination in step S9. If the nitrogen gas purging is incomplete (NO in step S9), the supply of nitrogen gas from the purge line 5 to the transfer line 4 continues. If the nitrogen gas purging is completed (YES in step S9), in addition to the upstream valve 71, which is already closed, the vent opening/closing valve 61 and the downstream valve 72 are closed. In other words, both the vent line 6 and the branch line 7 are closed (step S10). After the necessary post-processing is performed, the joints J1, J2, J3, and J4 are released, and the intermediate transfer equipment 30 is withdrawn.

- the boil-off gas is stored in the gas phase of the second tank 21.
- the liquefied hydrogen stored in the first tank 11 of the transport ship 10 or the boil-off gas generated by external heat input to the stored liquefied hydrogen may be used.
- exhaust is performed via the branch line 7 at the beginning of the cool-down. That is, the vent opening and closing valve 61 is closed, and the upstream valve 71 and downstream valve 72 of the branch line 7 are opened (step S21).
- valves that are opened are the second valve 42, the third valve 43, the fourth valve 44, and the seventh valve 47.
- the first valve 41 and the ninth valve 49 are opened instead of the fourth valve 44 and the seventh valve 47.
- the sixth valve 46 and the ninth valve 49 are opened instead of the fourth valve 44.
- the sixth valve 46 is a valve provided for a line that communicates with the gas phase of the second tank 21.
- the fifth valve 45 and the ninth valve 49 are opened instead of the fourth valve 44.
- the fifth valve 45 is a valve provided for a line that communicates with the gas phase of the first tank 11.
- the seventh valve 47 and the ninth valve may be opened to perform a cool-down including the sub-line 9.
- the purge line 5 is not used. Therefore, the first purge valve 53 and the second purge valve 54 are closed.
- thermometer 8 At the beginning of the cool-down, the exhausted gas is relatively hot, so there is no cold damage to the thermometer 8.
- step S24 It is determined whether the gas temperature measured by the thermometer 8 is below a predetermined temperature (step S24).
- the predetermined temperature is set to a temperature higher than the lower limit temperature of the operating range of the thermometer 8. If the gas temperature is not below the predetermined temperature (NO in step S24), the supply of liquefied hydrogen from the container 20 continues. If the gas temperature is below the predetermined temperature (YES in step S24), the vent opening/closing valve 61 is opened, and the upstream valve 71 and downstream valve 72 of the branch line 7 are closed (step S25). In other words, the exhaust route is switched to a route that passes only through the vent line 6. By operating the valves in this manner, the thermometer 8 can be protected from the cold heat of the liquefied hydrogen.
- step S26 it is determined whether the cool-down is complete. Completion can be estimated by heat calculation based on the amount and time of liquefied hydrogen supply. If the cool-down is incomplete (NO in step S26), the supply of liquefied hydrogen from the container 20 continues. In contrast, if the cool-down is completed (YES in step S26), the vent opening/closing valve 61 is closed, and both the branch line 7 and the vent line 6 are closed (step S27). Thereafter, the first valve 41 is opened, and the transfer of liquefied hydrogen from the container 20 to the transport ship 10 begins.
- the liquefied hydrogen transfer system comprises a first facility including a first tank capable of storing liquefied hydrogen, a second facility including a second tank capable of storing liquefied hydrogen, and intermediate transfer equipment disposed between the first facility and the second facility, the intermediate transfer equipment including a transfer line for transferring liquefied hydrogen between the first tank and the second tank, a purge line for supplying a purge gas to the transfer line, a vent line for exhausting a gas including the purge gas from the transfer line, a branch line branching off from the vent line and merging with the vent line at a position downstream in the exhaust direction from the branch position, and a thermometer disposed on the branch line for measuring the temperature of the gas flowing through the branch line.
- gas including purge gas can be exhausted through two routes: a route that passes only through the vent line, and a route that passes through a branch line equipped with a thermometer. Therefore, for example, in a hot-up process, when the gas is at an extremely low temperature, it can be exhausted through the vent line, and when the temperature of the gas is assumed to have risen, the gas can be exhausted through the branch line.
- a thermometer that cannot be used at extremely low temperatures where liquefied hydrogen flows such as an insertion type thermometer, can be used to measure the temperature of the gas passing through the branch line. Therefore, even if the object to be transported is liquefied hydrogen, a transfer system can be provided that can accurately grasp the temperature of the gas flowing through the vent line.
- the liquefied hydrogen transfer system according to the second aspect is the liquefied hydrogen transfer system according to the first aspect, in which the thermometer is a non-electrical thermometer.
- the temperature of the exhaust gas can be measured without using electrical equipment such as a power source. Therefore, a liquefied hydrogen transfer system can be constructed with a simple equipment configuration.
- the liquefied hydrogen transfer system according to the third aspect is the liquefied hydrogen transfer system according to the first or second aspect, in which the intermediate transfer equipment further includes an on-off valve disposed in the branch line.
- the flow of gas to the branch line can be switched on and off by operating the on-off valve.
- the liquefied hydrogen transfer system according to the fourth aspect is the liquefied hydrogen transfer system according to the third aspect, in which the intermediate transfer equipment has, as the on-off valves, a first on-off valve arranged upstream of the position of the thermometer in the branch line, and a second on-off valve arranged downstream.
- gas can be circulated through the branch line by opening the first and second on-off valves.
- gas can be prevented from flowing from the branch of the vent line to the part of the branch line where the thermometer is located by closing the first on-off valve.
- Backflow of gas from the junction of the vent line to the part where the thermometer is located can be prevented by closing the second on-off valve.
- trapping of low-temperature gas in the part of the branch line where the thermometer is located can be prevented by adjusting the timing for closing the second on-off valve.
- the intermediate transfer equipment is an intermediate transfer equipment disposed between a first facility including a first tank capable of storing liquefied hydrogen and a second facility including a second tank capable of storing liquefied hydrogen, and includes a transfer line for transferring liquefied hydrogen between the first tank and the second tank, a purge line for supplying a purge gas to the transfer line, a vent line for exhausting gas including the purge gas from the transfer line, a branch line branching off from the vent line and merging with the vent line at a position downstream in the exhaust direction from the branch position, and a thermometer disposed on the branch line for measuring the temperature of the gas flowing through the branch line.
- the gas including the purge gas can be exhausted through two routes: a route that passes only through the vent line, and a route that passes through a branch line equipped with a thermometer. Therefore, when the temperature of the gas has risen to a certain level, the gas can be made to flow through the branch line and the gas temperature can be measured. Therefore, even if the object of transfer is liquefied hydrogen, the temperature of the gas flowing through the vent line can be accurately grasped.
- the purging method is a purging method for purging a liquefied hydrogen transfer system before or after use, the system including a transfer line for transferring liquefied hydrogen between a first tank capable of storing liquefied hydrogen and a second tank capable of storing liquefied hydrogen, a purge line for supplying a purge gas to the transfer line, a vent line for discharging gas from the transfer line, and a branch line branching from the vent line and joining the vent line at a downstream position in the exhaust direction from the branch position, the method supplies a purge gas to the transfer line, and when it is estimated that the gas discharged from the transfer line is equal to or lower than a predetermined threshold temperature, the gas is discharged only through the vent line, and when it is estimated that the gas discharged from the transfer line will exceed the threshold temperature, the gas is discharged via the branch line, and the temperature of the gas flowing through the branch line is measured with a thermometer.
- thermometer that cannot be used at extremely low temperatures where liquefied hydrogen flows can be used to bypass the gas to a branch line and measure the temperature of the gas. Therefore, even if the object of transport is liquefied hydrogen, the temperature of the gas flowing through the vent line can be accurately determined.
