이를 위해 단말은 기지국으로부터 PSCH(Primary Synchronization Channel) 및 SSCH(Secondary Synchronization Channel)을 수신하여 기지국과 동기를 맞추고, 셀 ID(cell identity) 등의 정보를 획득한다. 또한, 단말은 기지국으로부터 PBCH(Physical Broadcast Channel)를 수신하여 셀 내 방송 정보를 획득할 수 있다.
초기 셀 탐색을 마친 단말은 PDCCH(Physical Downlink Control Channel) 및 이에 대응되는 PDSCH(Physical Downlink Control Channel)를 수신하여 좀더 구체적인 시스템 정보를 획득할 수 있다(S12).
구체적으로, 단말은 PRACH(Physical Random Access Channel)를 통해 프리앰블을 전송하고(S13), PDCCH 및 이에 대응하는 PDSCH를 통해 프리앰블에 대한 RAR(Random Access Response)을 수신할 수 있다(S14).
단말이 기지국으로 전송하는 제어 정보를 UCI(Uplink Control Information)라고 지칭한다. UCI는 HARQ ACK/NACK(Hybrid Automatic Repeat and reQuest Acknowledgement/Negative-ACK), SR(Scheduling Request), CSI(Channel State Information) 등을 포함한다. CSI는 CQI(Channel Quality Indicator), PMI(Precoding Matrix Indicator), RI(Rank Indication) 등을 포함한다.
OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)
각 슬롯은 CP(cyclic prefix)에 따라 12개 또는 14개의 OFDM(A) 심볼을 포함한다.

Frequency Range designation Corresponding frequency range Subcarrier Spacing
FR1 450MHz - 6000MHz 15, 30, 60kHz
FR2 24250MHz - 52600MHz 60, 120, 240kHz

NR의 frame structure는 도 4의 예시와 같이 하나의 slot 단위 내에 DL control channel, DL or UL data, UL control channel 등이 모두 포함될 수 있는 self-contained 구조를 특징으로 한다. 이 때, DL control channel 에서는 DL data scheduling 정보, UL data scheduling 정보 등이 전송될 수 있고, UL control channel 에서는 DL data 에 대한 ACK/NACK 정보, CSI 정보 (modulation and coding scheme 정보, MIMO 전송 관련 정보 등), scheduling request 등이 전송될 수 있다. (일 예로, DL control / DL data / UL control / UL data or UL control / UL data / DL control / DL data 등)

(The main advantage of RF-based energy harvesting is its availability in deployed environments and the fact that RF power is controllable (e.g., power can be sent by a transmitter on demand or periodically). Potential applications include logistics/warehouse, manufacturing, smart homes, health monitoring, and environmental monitoring etc.)

(Matching network: consists of inductive and capacitive elements, and ensures the maximum power delivery from antenna to voltage multiplier)
(Voltage multiplier: converts the incident RF power into DC power.)
(Increasing the number of multiplier stages produces higher voltage, and yet reduces the current slowing down the charging of energy storage capacitor.)
(Conversely, fewer stages of the multiplier will ensure quick charging of the capacitor, but the voltage generated across it may be insufficient to drive the device)
(Energy storage: provides smooth power delivery to the load, and as a reserve for durations when external energy is insufficient or unavailable)

이러한 device energy state 관련 정보는 아래에서 제안하는 ES 전송 제어를 위한 device energy state 정보 들을 포함할 수 있다.

ES 전송 제어를 위한 device energy state 정보는 다음 device energy capability/state 관련 정보, ES 전송 request 정보 들을 포함할 수 있다.
Energy-related device capability parameters
(1) Capacitor/battery 유무 (e.g., Device B/C는 capacitor/battery가 '유'임을 보고하고, Device A는 '무'임을 보고할 수 있음.)
(2) Capacitor/battery 용량 (e.g., Device B/C는 capacitor/battery 용량을 양자화 된 값으로 보고할 수 있음. Capacitor/battery 용량 파라미터 정보는 상기 capacitor/battery 유무 정보를 대체할 수 있음.
(3) Device power class (device 최대 전송 파워 등급) (e.g., Device B/C의 최대 전송 파워 등급이 Device A보다 클 수 있음. 이 때, Device A 또는 passive device의 경우, device power class 보고를 생략할 수 있음.

Device energy state/level (including device capacitor/battery state of charge)
Ambient IoT device는 자신의 device energy state/level 또는 capacitor/battery 충전 상태, 등의 정보를 (quantize해서) (UL 전송 시에) 보고할 수 있다.

Device energy state/level 정보의 보고는 energy storage capability를 갖춘 Device 타입/클래스, 예컨대 Device A/B/C 중 Device B와 C만 지원하는 것일 수 있다.
ESRP (ES-RSRP) 기반의 report는 T의 복잡도나 전력소모를 고려하여 "ESRP bad" 및/또는 "ESRP good"/"ESRP good"의 형태로 간소화될 수 있다.

Time/freq resource 단위는, 예컨대 {X OFDM symbols, Y PRBs} 형태일 수 있으며, SCS 별로 정의될 수 있음.

(3) ES time/freq and power resources
Time to EH (EH
(1) Capacitor/battery 가 Z % 충전되는 시점
(Received ES power at the input of RF-to-DC converter which is again a function of:)
(1-1) ES Tx 전력(주파수 선택 가능) (ES Tx power (may be frequency selective))

ES request
(1) Device energy state/level (including device capacitor/battery state of charge)

(3) Time to EH (EH에 소요된 시간)가 특정 값 초과/이상인 경우
[R=>T signal/channel 전송을 통한 설정/지시/허용 방식]
