Abstract
本発明の課題は、最小限のアルカリ化で、二酸化炭素を炭酸塩として固定化し回収する炭酸塩製造装置及び炭酸塩生成方法を提供することである。 上記課題を解決するために、二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンを含む被処理水のpHを高めるpH調整部を備えることを特徴とする、炭酸塩生成装置、及びその製造方法を提供する。これにより、低コストかつ環境負荷の少ない手法で、二酸化炭素を炭酸塩として固定化し回収する炭酸塩生成装置及び炭酸塩生成方法を提供することができる。
Description
本発明は、二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンを含む溶液から炭酸塩を生成する装置及びその生成方法に関するものである。
近年、二酸化炭素の問題に関しては、地球温暖化の大きな原因とされ、全世界的に二酸化炭素の環境への排出を抑制することが早急に対応すべき課題となっている。
特許文献1には、アルカリ成分を溶出させた海中に二酸化炭素を供給することで、海水を中和反応させ炭酸塩として二酸化炭素を固定化する方法が記載されている。
特許文献1に記載されるように、カルシウムイオンやマグネシウムイオンなどのアルカリ土類金属イオンを含む海水等の溶液に対してアルカリ成分を溶出させた後、二酸化炭素を供給して炭酸塩を製造する場合、アルカリ成分の水酸化物イオンと海中のマグネシウムイオンが結合し、水酸化マグネシウムのようなアルカリ土類金属の水酸化物が生じる。よって、炭酸塩を製造することにより二酸化炭素を固定化しようとする場合、アルカリ土類金属の水酸化物の分のだけ、多くのアルカリ剤が必要になるため、アルカリ剤のコストが発生し、効率良く二酸化炭素を炭酸塩として固定化することできないといった問題がある。
そこで、本発明の課題は、最小限のアルカリ化で、二酸化炭素を炭酸塩として固定化し回収する炭酸塩製造装置及び炭酸塩生成方法を提供することである。
本発明者は、上記課題について鋭意検討した結果、pH調整部により、二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンを含む被処理水のpHを高めることで炭酸塩を生成できることを見出して本発明を完成させた。

上記課題を解決するための本発明の炭酸塩生成装置は、二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンを含む被処理水のpHを高めるpH調整部を備えることを特徴とする。
この炭酸塩生成装置によれば、二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンを含む被処理水の水素イオン濃度をpH調整部が低下させ、被処理水のpHを高めることにより、炭酸イオンを生成する。これにより、生成した炭酸イオンとアルカリ土類金属イオンとが効率よく反応し、アルカリ土類金属イオンの水酸化物が生成されることなく最小限のアルカリ化で効率よく炭酸塩を生成できる効果がある。
この炭酸塩生成装置によれば、二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンを含む被処理水の水素イオン濃度をpH調整部が低下させ、被処理水のpHを高めることにより、炭酸イオンを生成する。これにより、生成した炭酸イオンとアルカリ土類金属イオンとが効率よく反応し、アルカリ土類金属イオンの水酸化物が生成されることなく最小限のアルカリ化で効率よく炭酸塩を生成できる効果がある。
また、本発明の炭酸塩生成装置の一実施態様としては、pH調整部は、被処理水中の水素イオンを選択的に透過する水素イオン交換膜であるという特徴を有する。
この特徴によれば、水素イオン交換膜をpH調整部に用いることにより、水素イオンのみを透過させることができるため、水素イオンとその他の分子に分けることができる。これにより、水素イオン濃度を低下させ、pHを低くすることで、炭酸イオンを効率よく発生させることができる。これにより、生成した炭酸イオンとアルカリ土類金属イオンとを効率よく反応させ、炭酸塩を生成できるという効果がある。
この特徴によれば、水素イオン交換膜をpH調整部に用いることにより、水素イオンのみを透過させることができるため、水素イオンとその他の分子に分けることができる。これにより、水素イオン濃度を低下させ、pHを低くすることで、炭酸イオンを効率よく発生させることができる。これにより、生成した炭酸イオンとアルカリ土類金属イオンとを効率よく反応させ、炭酸塩を生成できるという効果がある。
また、本発明の溶液生成装置の一実施態様としては、被処理水は、塩類(炭酸イオンの塩及びアルカリ土類金属イオンの塩を除く)を含むものであることという特徴を有する。
この特徴によれば、被処理水として塩類を含んだ溶液を用いているため、被処理水に塩類(炭酸イオンの塩及びアルカリ土類金属イオンの塩を除く)を含有しない場合と比較して、低いpHで炭酸イオンを生成でき、炭酸塩を効率よく生成する効果がある。
この特徴によれば、被処理水として塩類を含んだ溶液を用いているため、被処理水に塩類(炭酸イオンの塩及びアルカリ土類金属イオンの塩を除く)を含有しない場合と比較して、低いpHで炭酸イオンを生成でき、炭酸塩を効率よく生成する効果がある。
上記課題を解決するための本発明の炭酸塩生成方法は、二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンを含む被処理水のpHを高めるpH調整工程を備えることを特徴とする。
この炭酸塩生成方法によれば、pH調整部が被処理水のpHを高めることにより、水酸化物が生成されることなく、炭酸イオンとアルカリ土類金属イオンとが効率よく反応し、最小限のアルカリ化で炭酸塩を製造でき、効率よく炭酸塩を生成できる方法とすることができる効果がある。
この炭酸塩生成方法によれば、pH調整部が被処理水のpHを高めることにより、水酸化物が生成されることなく、炭酸イオンとアルカリ土類金属イオンとが効率よく反応し、最小限のアルカリ化で炭酸塩を製造でき、効率よく炭酸塩を生成できる方法とすることができる効果がある。
本発明によると、低コストかつ環境負荷の少ない手法で、二酸化炭素を炭酸塩として固定化し回収する炭酸塩生成装置及び炭酸塩生成方法を提供することができる。
以下、本発明に係る炭酸塩生成装置の実施態様を詳細に説明する。また、本発明に係る炭酸塩生成方法の説明については、本発明に係る炭酸塩生成装置の動作に係る説明に置き換えるものとする。
なお、実施態様に記載する炭酸塩生成装置及び炭酸塩生成方法については、本発明に係る炭酸塩生成装置及び炭酸塩生成方法を説明するために例示したに過ぎず、これに限定されるものではない。

式1に示すように、炭酸水では、炭酸(H2CO3)の一部が水素イオン(H+)と炭酸水素イオン(HCO3
-)に電離する。そして、炭酸水素イオンから水素イオンがさらに電離することで、炭酸イオン(CO32-)が発生する。

ここで、純水中に二酸化炭素が溶解した液(炭酸水)中の炭酸(H2CO3)や炭酸水素イオン(HCO3-)から炭酸イオン(CO32-)の存在比が多い状態にするには、図1に示されるように、pHを上昇させることで、炭酸水中の炭酸イオン(CO32-)の存在比を上昇させることができることが知られている。
本発明は、上記の現象を利用し、被処理水中に含まれるカルシウムイオン(Ca2+)のようなアルカリ土類金属と、pHを上昇させることにより存在比が増した炭酸イオン(CO32-)とを反応させることで、炭酸カルシウム(CaCO3)のような炭酸塩をより効率よく生成するものである。
本発明の特徴としては、あらかじめ被処理水中に二酸化炭素が溶解しており、被処理水は二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンを含んでいる状態である。その状態において、pH調整部が、被処理水のpHを上昇させ、炭酸イオン濃度を高くすることで、被処理水中に含まれるアルカリ土類金属イオンと炭酸イオン(CO32-)を結合させ、炭酸カルシウム(CaCO3)のようなアルカリ土類金属の炭酸塩を生成するものである。
従来の被処理水をアルカリ化した後に二酸化炭素を供給する場合と異なり、アルカリ土類金属の水酸化物が生じないため、最小限のアルカリ化で炭酸塩を効率よく製造できる。

本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置100は、処理槽10の二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンを含む被処理水S0に、pH調整部P10よりアルカリ推進剤を導入することで、被処理水S0の炭酸イオン(CO32-)の存在比が上昇するため、被処理水S0中のアルカリ土類金属イオン(カルシウムイオン(Ca2+))と炭酸イオン(CO32-)が結合し、炭酸塩(CaCO3)が生成されるというものである。
本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置100は、図2に示すように、処理槽10とpH調整部P10を有している。そして、処理槽10には、被処理水S0を導入するラインL1と、pH調整部P10から処理槽10内へアルカリ推進剤を供給するラインL2を有している。
また、pH調整部P10は、アルカリ推進剤添加装置P11を有している。
以下、本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置100の各構成について詳しく解説する。

(被処理水)
被処理水S0は、本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置100において、炭酸塩を生成するために処理される二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンを含む水溶液である。本実施態様において利用できる被処理水S0としては、二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンが存在する水溶液であれば、その由来については特に限定されない。人為的に二酸化炭素を溶解させたり、人為的にアルカリ土類金属イオンとなる物質を溶解させたりしたものであってもよいし、初めから二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンが溶解した水溶液を用いてもよい。例えば、海水、河川水、水道水、純水、工場からの排水・廃水、埋立地の進出水等が挙げられる。
被処理水S0は、好ましくは、pH8.0以下であり、さらに好ましくは、pH7.5以下であり、特に好ましくは、pH7.0以下である。

図5に示すように、塩類(炭酸イオンの塩及びアルカリ土類金属イオンの塩を除く)を含むものを被処理水S0として用いた場合、被処理水S0に塩類(炭酸イオンの塩及びアルカリ土類金属イオンの塩を除く)を含有しない場合と比較して、低いpHで炭酸イオン(CO32-)の比率を上昇させることができるため、炭酸塩(CaCO3)を効率よく生成する効果がある。塩類(炭酸イオンの塩及びアルカリ土類金属イオンの塩を除く)を含む被処理水としては、海水が好適に利用できる。
(pH調整部)
本実施態様におけるpH調整部P10は、アルカリ推進剤添加装置P11を備えている。
アルカリ推進剤添加装置P11は、処理槽10内の被処理水S0にアルカリ推進剤を添加することにより、被処理水S0のpHを上昇させることを目的とするものである。
アルカリ推進剤は、処理槽10内の被処理水S0にアルカリ推進剤を添加することができれば、どのようなものであってもよい。例えば、処理槽10の外部に設けられた貯留槽に貯められたアルカリ推進剤をポンプ等で適宜、処理槽10へ送るものであってもよいし、作業員によりアルカリ推進剤が処理槽10へ投入されるものとしてもよい。
アルカリ推進剤については、被処理水S0中の炭酸(H2CO3)及び炭酸水素(HCO3-)から水素イオン(H+)を電離させ、pHを上昇させることができれば特に限定
されないが、種類としては、例えば、pH7を超えるものが好適であり、水酸化ナトリウム(NaOH)や水酸化カリウム(KOH)等が挙げられる。

処理槽10は、被処理水S0を貯留可能であればよく、特に素材や形状、大きさは問わない。また、ラインL1、L2は、どのように処理槽10へ接続されていてもよい。例えば、図2に示すようにラインL1、L2は、処理槽10の上方から接続され、ラインL1、L2から被処理水S0やアルカリ推進剤が処理槽10へ導入される部分を被処理水S0の水面よりも上に設置することで、被処理水S0やアルカリ推進剤が勢いよく水面へ投入されるように設置してもよい。これにより、空気中の酸素や二酸化炭素をより多く被処理水S0に加えることができる。
なお、ラインL1、L2により被処理水S0やアルカリ推進剤が勢いよく水面へ投入されることで、被処理水中の二酸化炭素濃度が低下してしまう場合は、ラインL1、L2から被処理水S0やアルカリ推進剤が処理槽10へ導入される部分を被処理水S0の液中に設置するとよい。これにより、被処理水S0やアルカリ推進剤を勢いよく処理槽内に投入しないようにできるため、被処理水S0の液中の二酸化炭素濃度の低下を防ぐことができる。
処理槽10は、被処理水S0を貯留可能であればよく、特に素材や形状、大きさは問わない。また、ラインL1、L2は、どのように処理槽10へ接続されていてもよい。例えば、図2に示すようにラインL1、L2は、処理槽10の上方から接続され、ラインL1、L2から被処理水S0やアルカリ推進剤が処理槽10へ導入される部分を被処理水S0の水面よりも上に設置することで、被処理水S0やアルカリ推進剤が勢いよく水面へ投入されるように設置してもよい。これにより、空気中の酸素や二酸化炭素をより多く被処理水S0に加えることができる。
なお、ラインL1、L2により被処理水S0やアルカリ推進剤が勢いよく水面へ投入されることで、被処理水中の二酸化炭素濃度が低下してしまう場合は、ラインL1、L2から被処理水S0やアルカリ推進剤が処理槽10へ導入される部分を被処理水S0の液中に設置するとよい。これにより、被処理水S0やアルカリ推進剤を勢いよく処理槽内に投入しないようにできるため、被処理水S0の液中の二酸化炭素濃度の低下を防ぐことができる。
〔炭酸塩生成装置100の動作〕
以下、本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置100の動作について説明する。
最初に貯留槽10に被処理水S0が供給され、処理槽10内を満たす。ここで、被処理水S0には、あらかじめ二酸化炭素及びアルカリ土類金属が含まれているため、処理槽10内では、電離平衡により上記式1の関係が成りたっている。
以下、本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置100の動作について説明する。
最初に貯留槽10に被処理水S0が供給され、処理槽10内を満たす。ここで、被処理水S0には、あらかじめ二酸化炭素及びアルカリ土類金属が含まれているため、処理槽10内では、電離平衡により上記式1の関係が成りたっている。
次に、貯留槽10内の被処理水S0にアルカリ推進剤添加装置P11により水酸化ナトリウム等のアルカリ推進剤を添加する。これにより、被処理水S0中の炭酸(H2CO3)及び炭酸水素(HCO3-)から水素イオンが電離することで、被処理水S0のpHが上昇する。
この際、アルカリ推進剤は、被処理水S0中のアルカリ土類金属イオン(カルシウムイオン)と反応するに十分な炭酸イオンが存在するpHとなるように調整される。これより、炭酸イオンとアルカリ土類金属イオン(カルシウムイオン)が反応し、炭酸塩が生成される。
この際、アルカリ推進剤は、被処理水S0中のアルカリ土類金属イオン(カルシウムイオン)と反応するに十分な炭酸イオンが存在するpHとなるように調整される。これより、炭酸イオンとアルカリ土類金属イオン(カルシウムイオン)が反応し、炭酸塩が生成される。
以上により、本実施態様による炭酸塩生成装置100によれば、被処理水にあらかじめ二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンが含まれている状態において、pHを高くし、炭酸イオンの存在を多くすることで、炭酸イオンとカルシウムイオンが反応し、最小限のアルカリ化で効率よく炭酸塩を生成できる効果がある。
また、被処理水S0中に、アルカリ土類金属イオンの存在する状態において、二酸化炭素を供給することもできる。この場合、被処理水S0のpHは低い状態となり、その後にアルカリ推進剤を添加することで、アルカリ土類金属の水酸化物の生成がされることなく更に最小限のアルカリ化で炭酸塩効率よく生成することができる。
〔第2の実施態様〕
図3は、本発明の第2の実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200を示す概略説明図である。
図3に示すように、本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200は、処理槽20、pH調整部P20を備えている。そして、pH調整部P20は電圧印加ユニットP21、電極P22a、電極P22bを備えている。また、処理槽20は被処理水S0を導入するラインL1を備えている。
本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200は、pH調整部P20として電圧印加ユニットP21に電気的に接続された電極P22a、電極P22bを用いることを特徴とするものである。
以下、本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200の各構成を詳しく説明する。ここで、ラインL1及び被処理水S0については、第1の実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置100と同一であるため、説明を省略する。
また、本実施態様における処理槽20は、後述する電極P22aと電極P22bが内部に設置されていることを特徴とすること以外は、第1の実施態様における処理槽10と同一である。
図3は、本発明の第2の実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200を示す概略説明図である。
図3に示すように、本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200は、処理槽20、pH調整部P20を備えている。そして、pH調整部P20は電圧印加ユニットP21、電極P22a、電極P22bを備えている。また、処理槽20は被処理水S0を導入するラインL1を備えている。
本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200は、pH調整部P20として電圧印加ユニットP21に電気的に接続された電極P22a、電極P22bを用いることを特徴とするものである。
以下、本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200の各構成を詳しく説明する。ここで、ラインL1及び被処理水S0については、第1の実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置100と同一であるため、説明を省略する。
また、本実施態様における処理槽20は、後述する電極P22aと電極P22bが内部に設置されていることを特徴とすること以外は、第1の実施態様における処理槽10と同一である。
(pH調整部)
本実施態様におけるpH調整部P20は、電圧印加ユニットP21、電極P22a、電極P22bが、該当する。
電圧印加ユニットP21は、機能については特に限定されない。電圧印加の態様としては、直流電源として、処理槽20内での炭酸イオンの反応の進行等に合わせて、その出力を調整できることが好ましく、太陽電池、風力、波力、などの再生可能エネルギーや他の施設における余剰電力を利用するものとすることが好ましい。これにより、炭酸塩の生成工程において使用するエネルギーを低減させることが可能となる。特に、発電に際して二酸化炭素を排出しない再生可能エネルギーを用いた場合、二酸化炭素の排出抑制を推進することができるという効果も奏する。
本実施態様におけるpH調整部P20は、電圧印加ユニットP21、電極P22a、電極P22bが、該当する。
電圧印加ユニットP21は、機能については特に限定されない。電圧印加の態様としては、直流電源として、処理槽20内での炭酸イオンの反応の進行等に合わせて、その出力を調整できることが好ましく、太陽電池、風力、波力、などの再生可能エネルギーや他の施設における余剰電力を利用するものとすることが好ましい。これにより、炭酸塩の生成工程において使用するエネルギーを低減させることが可能となる。特に、発電に際して二酸化炭素を排出しない再生可能エネルギーを用いた場合、二酸化炭素の排出抑制を推進することができるという効果も奏する。
電極P22a、P22bとしては、アノード又はカソードとして機能するものであればよく、材質及び形状については特に限定されない。
電極P22a及び電極P22bは、処理槽20の内壁に、一方をアノード、他方をカソードとなるように、電圧印加ユニットP21と電気的に接続された状態でそれぞれ配置される。電極P22a、P22bの材質の例としては、例えば、電気化学分野で電極材料として広く用いられている炭素や金属(金、白金、銀、パラジウム、ガリウム、ステンレス、銅等)が挙げられる。また、電極P22a、P22bの形状の例としては、例えば、平板状、棒状、メッシュ状、又は導電性基板に粒子を塗布した電極基板などが挙げられる。
電極P22a及び電極P22bは、処理槽20の内壁に、一方をアノード、他方をカソードとなるように、電圧印加ユニットP21と電気的に接続された状態でそれぞれ配置される。電極P22a、P22bの材質の例としては、例えば、電気化学分野で電極材料として広く用いられている炭素や金属(金、白金、銀、パラジウム、ガリウム、ステンレス、銅等)が挙げられる。また、電極P22a、P22bの形状の例としては、例えば、平板状、棒状、メッシュ状、又は導電性基板に粒子を塗布した電極基板などが挙げられる。
〔炭酸塩生成装置200の動作〕
本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200の動作について説明する。
最初に、処理槽20内にラインL1を介して被処理水S0が供給される。そして、電圧印加ユニットP21によって、電極P22aとP22bに電圧が印加され、カソード側となる電極P22bに電子(e-)が帯電する。
これにより、被処理水S0内でアノード側となる電極P22aからカソード側となる電極P22bへと水素イオン(H+)が移動する。そして、移動した水素イオンは、電子と反応することで水素分子となり、被処理水S0から気体として発生し除去される。
水素イオンが電離したアノード側の電極P22a付近の被処理水S0はpHが上昇し、炭酸イオン(CO3
-)の生成が活発になり、結果として炭酸塩(CaCO3)が生成される。
本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200の動作について説明する。
最初に、処理槽20内にラインL1を介して被処理水S0が供給される。そして、電圧印加ユニットP21によって、電極P22aとP22bに電圧が印加され、カソード側となる電極P22bに電子(e-)が帯電する。
これにより、被処理水S0内でアノード側となる電極P22aからカソード側となる電極P22bへと水素イオン(H+)が移動する。そして、移動した水素イオンは、電子と反応することで水素分子となり、被処理水S0から気体として発生し除去される。
水素イオンが電離したアノード側の電極P22a付近の被処理水S0はpHが上昇し、炭酸イオン(CO3
-)の生成が活発になり、結果として炭酸塩(CaCO3)が生成される。
本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200によれば、電圧印加ユニットP21と電極P22aとP22bによって、被処理水に電圧が印加されることにより、アノード側電極P22aからカソード側電極P22bへの水素イオンの移動を誘発し、アノード側電極付近において炭酸イオンを発生させることができる。その結果、より効率よく炭酸塩を生成することができる。
〔第3の実施態様〕
図4は、本発明の第3の実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置300を示す概略説明図である。以下、本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置300の構成を詳しく解説する。
本発明の第3の実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置300は、pH調整部P30として、水素イオン交換膜P31と電圧印加ユニットP32と電極P33aと電極P33bとを備える。ここで、一対の電極(電極P33a、P33b)は水素イオン交換膜P31の両側に設けられている。
図4は、本発明の第3の実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置300を示す概略説明図である。以下、本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置300の構成を詳しく解説する。
本発明の第3の実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置300は、pH調整部P30として、水素イオン交換膜P31と電圧印加ユニットP32と電極P33aと電極P33bとを備える。ここで、一対の電極(電極P33a、P33b)は水素イオン交換膜P31の両側に設けられている。
本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置300の特徴は、処理槽30内の水素イオンが水素イオン交換膜P31を介して、アソード側電極(P33a)を備える第1室31aから、カソード側電極(P33b)を備える第2室31bに移動する。イオン交換膜P31により、水素イオンのみが第1室31aから、第2室31bへ移動するため、水素イオンとその他の分子に分けることができる。これにより、第1室31a内の水素イオン濃度が低下し、pHが上昇することで、炭酸イオンを発生させ、炭酸塩を効率よく生成できる。
以下に本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置300の構成を詳細に説明する。
ここで、ラインL1、被処理水S0については、第1~3の実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置100、200と同一であるため、説明は省略する。

(処理槽)
本実施態様における処理槽30は、水素イオン交換膜P31により、第1室31aと第2室31bとに分けらえている。さらに、第3の実施態様における処理槽30では、後述するカソード側電極P33b付近において発生する水素(H2)を回収するラインL3を備えている。また、ラインL3を介して回収された水素の取り扱いについては特に限定されず、貯留施設に移送して貯留するものとしてもよく、あるいは直接ユースポイントに移送してエネルギー源として利用するものとしてもよい。
本実施態様における処理槽30は、水素イオン交換膜P31により、第1室31aと第2室31bとに分けらえている。さらに、第3の実施態様における処理槽30では、後述するカソード側電極P33b付近において発生する水素(H2)を回収するラインL3を備えている。また、ラインL3を介して回収された水素の取り扱いについては特に限定されず、貯留施設に移送して貯留するものとしてもよく、あるいは直接ユースポイントに移送してエネルギー源として利用するものとしてもよい。
(pH調整部)
本実施態様におけるpH調整部P30は、水素イオン交換膜P31と電圧印加ユニットP32と電極P33aと電極P33bとを備える。
水素イオン交換膜P31は、水素イオンを選択的に透過することができる膜である。本実施態様においては、例えば、水素イオン交換膜P31としては、水素イオンのみを透過させる機能を有するものであればよく、具体的な成分や構造については特に限定されず、公知のものを用いることができる。例えば、炭素-フッ素からなる疎水性テフロン(登録商標)骨格とスルホン酸基を持つパーフルオロ側鎖から構成されるパーフルオロカーボン材料が挙げられる。電圧印加ユニットP32と電極P33aと電極P33bについては、第2の実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200の電圧印加ユニットP21と電極P22aと電極P22bと同一のものと同一であるため、説明は省略する。
本実施態様におけるpH調整部P30は、水素イオン交換膜P31と電圧印加ユニットP32と電極P33aと電極P33bとを備える。
水素イオン交換膜P31は、水素イオンを選択的に透過することができる膜である。本実施態様においては、例えば、水素イオン交換膜P31としては、水素イオンのみを透過させる機能を有するものであればよく、具体的な成分や構造については特に限定されず、公知のものを用いることができる。例えば、炭素-フッ素からなる疎水性テフロン(登録商標)骨格とスルホン酸基を持つパーフルオロ側鎖から構成されるパーフルオロカーボン材料が挙げられる。電圧印加ユニットP32と電極P33aと電極P33bについては、第2の実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200の電圧印加ユニットP21と電極P22aと電極P22bと同一のものと同一であるため、説明は省略する。
本実施態様におけるpH調整部P30は、水素イオン交換膜P31の両側面を囲うように電極P33a及び電極P33bが設置される。電極P33a、P33bは、基本的に第2の実施態様における電極P22a、P22bと同じものであるが、イオン交換膜P31の物質移動を抑制するため、本実施態様における電極P33a、P33bの形状としては、例えば、メッシュ状の針金等の細い棒状などが挙げられる。さらに、P33a、P33bの別の例にとしては、メッキ処理などの手法により水素イオン交換膜P31の表面に直接電極パターンを作成するもの等が挙げられる。このとき、電極パターンの形状は特に限定されないが、水素イオン交換膜P31に対する物質移動の阻害を抑制できるものとすることが好ましい。これにより、イオン交換膜P31の目詰まりや破損等を防ぐことができる。
〔炭酸塩生成装置300の動作〕
以下、本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置300の動作について説明する。
まず、最初に処理槽30内の第1室31a及び第2室31bに、ラインL1を介して被処理水S0が供給される。
次に電圧印加ユニットP32によって、電極P33aとP33bに電圧が印加され、カソード側電極P33bにマイナス電子が帯電する。そして、アノード側となる電極33aを備える第1室31aから、カソード側となる電極33bを備える第2室31bへと水素イオンのみがイオン交換膜P31を透過して移動する。これにより、水素イオンの濃度が低下した第1室31a内の被処理水S0はpHが上昇することで、より活発に炭酸イオンが発生するため、多量の炭酸塩が生成される。
以下、本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置300の動作について説明する。
まず、最初に処理槽30内の第1室31a及び第2室31bに、ラインL1を介して被処理水S0が供給される。
次に電圧印加ユニットP32によって、電極P33aとP33bに電圧が印加され、カソード側電極P33bにマイナス電子が帯電する。そして、アノード側となる電極33aを備える第1室31aから、カソード側となる電極33bを備える第2室31bへと水素イオンのみがイオン交換膜P31を透過して移動する。これにより、水素イオンの濃度が低下した第1室31a内の被処理水S0はpHが上昇することで、より活発に炭酸イオンが発生するため、多量の炭酸塩が生成される。
また、第1室31aから移動した水素イオン(H+)は、カソード側電極である電極P33bに帯電した電子(e-)を受け取って水素分子(H2)となり、ラインL3を介して処理槽30より回収される。
本実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置300は、電圧印加ユニットP32による電圧に起因する電気透析により、第1室31aから第2室31bへの水素イオンの移動を短時間で行うことができることに加え、水素イオン交換膜P31によって、第1室31aから第2室31bへは水素イオンのみが移動することができるので、効率よく炭酸イオン及び炭酸塩を生成することできる。
また、カソード側電極P33bにより電子と水素イオンが反応することで水素を発生させ、ラインL3より取り出して別途活用することができる。

なお、上述した実施態様は、炭酸塩生成装置及び炭酸塩生成方法の一例を示すものである。本発明に係る炭酸塩生成装置及び炭酸塩生成方法は、上述した実施態様に限られるものではなく、請求項に記載した要旨を変更しない範囲で、上述した実施態様に係る炭酸塩生成装置及び炭酸塩生成方法を変形してもよい。
例えば、第1~3の実施態様の炭酸塩生成装置を組み合わせるものとしてもよい。具体的には、第2、3の実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置200、300に、第1の実施態様における炭酸塩生成装置100のアルカリ推進剤添加装置P11を追加してもよい。これにより、よりアルカリ化に必要な時間が短縮され短時間で炭酸塩を生成することが可能となる。また、第2の実施態様の炭酸塩生成装置200に対して、第3の実施態様の炭酸塩生成装置300のラインL3を用いて、水素を回収するものとしてもよい。これにより、回収した水素を有効活用することができる。
また、炭酸塩を生成した後のアルカリ化した被処理水を、新たにアルカリ推進剤として用いてもよい。これにより、アルカリ化を行う場合と比較して炭酸塩を省エネルギーで生成することができる。

本発明の炭酸塩生成装置及び炭酸塩生成方法は、海水等を原料とした炭酸塩の製造に好適に用いることができる。
また、海水等被処理水中の二酸化炭素を炭酸塩生成のために消費することで、酸性化した海水、工場からの排水・廃水、埋立地の侵出水等のpHを適正化する目的にも使用可能である。

Claims (4)
- 二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンを含む被処理水のpHを高めるpH調整部を備えることを特徴とする、炭酸塩生成装置。
- 前記pH調整部は、前記被処理水中の水素イオンを選択的に透過する水素イオン交換膜によることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載された炭酸塩生成装置。
- 前記被処理水は、塩類(炭酸イオンの塩及びアルカリ土類金属イオンの塩を除く)を含むものであることを特徴とする、請求項1又は2に記載の炭酸塩生成装置。
- 二酸化炭素とアルカリ土類金属イオンを含む被処理水のpHを高めるpH調整工程を備えることを特徴とする、炭酸塩生成方法。
