Description

PROBIOTIC-CONTAINING NATURAL DETERGENT COMPOSITIONS
Field of the Invention
The invention relates to natural compositions containing natural plant extracts and living microbe systems and enzymes, for simultaneously cleansing, deodorizing and decomposing adhesive organic matter, and to detergent products in the field of household and industrial chemicals produced from these compositions, which is not mandatory and does not exclude the additional blending of an effective amount of some synthetic chemicals in regulatorily permitted concentrations, in order to increase functionality and storage and usage time.
Background of the Invention
Detergent products such as floor cleaning liquids, dishwashing liquids, laundry powders, laundry liquids, furniture deodorant sprays, bleaching creams, containing synthetic chemicals which are quantitatively blended have been known. Some products are recognized by manufacturers as natural detergent products, however their composition still contains a high level of synthetic chemicals having the properties of foaming, disinfecting, and attracting grease for washing off in water; natural substances (such as coconut oil) are not actually present in the product composition (saponification reaction, with the chosen fat being coconut oil or other vegetable fats).
The common disadvantage of these products is the use of synthetic chemicals as main active ingredients (disinfecting, foaming, degreasing, etc.) with high concentrations in the products to ensure the effective use according to the product functions. Due to the composition of mainly synthetic chemicals, these products are fast-acting, effective in use, but highly toxic, adhesive with a long-term retention after use, and difficult to completely wash off. On the other hand, these products often cause some undesirable side effects for users, especially children, such as drying the skin, irritating the skin and mucous membranes, even sometimes the frequent exposure to these products can cause or exacerbate certain skin diseases such as eczema, dermatitis (atopic, contact). Moreover, at present, some products still contain some chemical substances which are not allowed to use or are recommended to limit their levels in products by some countries and organizations around the world, such as the preservatives of paraben class; the antimicrobial and antifungal agent of triclosan; the foaming agents of SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), and SLES (sodium lauryl ether sulfate), etc.
In order to reduce the undesirable side effects when using the synthetic chemical detergent products, users have to use a lot of water and time to wash off the adhered chemicals, or have to use some additional products as recommended by the manufacturers, such as skin care products, hair care products, hair conditioners, fabric softeners, etc.
According to the traditional experience, there is a method of fermentating soapberry Suit extract with plant matters such as fresh pineapple peels, for use as dishwashing liquids and laundry liquids. However, these fermentation products cannot be industrially produced due to their low detergent efficiency; no good sence of color or odor; very short usage time and difficulty of storing under normal conditions as required for industrial products which often require the storage under low temperature conditions, such as in refrigerators.
In the current market, there are a number of detergent products recognized as of natural origin, being extracted and fermented from soapberry fruits, for use as dishwashing liquids and multi-purpose detergent liquids. These products, sometimes recognized by the manufacturers as organic products, only have their main functions of disinfecting and cleaning objects through the activity of soapberry extract or fermented soapberry extract.
In the current market, there are a number of dishwashing liquids and floor cleaning liquids, which are labeled as organic products, with the main active ingredients being glycine (amino acid), and plant-derived glycosides (such as Coco glycoside) blended with synthetic foaming agents (such as SLS, SLES) in dissolving solvents such as propylene glycol and water (H 2 O). In the current market, there are a number of detergent products (liquid, snow foam, cream), which are labeled as bio-detergent products, but the main ingredients in these products are usually non-ionic surfactants such as Spans 20-80, anionic surfactants such as sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, sometimes blended with plant extracts.
In the current market, there are a number of microbial products that help decompose organic matter, reduce odors in restrooms, whose active ingredients are mainly bacteria, enzymes such as amylase, protease, lipase and urease. These products mainly eliminate odors through the activity of aerobic microorganisms and the specificity of each type of enzymes (e.g., urease specifically reacts with urea substrate).
Thus, it can be seen that in the current detergent market, apart from synthetic chemical products, there are only detergent products whose main active ingredients for degreasing and disinfecting are selected among the group consisting of fermented plant extracts (soapberry fruit), plant-derived surfactants (coconut oil, palm oil, etc.), organic non-ionic or anionic surfactants; or detergent products for deodorizing through the activity of selected aerobic microorganisms and selected enzymes according to usage purposes.
Currently, no products or patent publications have been found for natural household and industrial detergent products that contain probiotics for use as floor cleaning liquids, laundry liquids, bleach liquids or creams for removing adhesive organic stains on the surface of objects, etc., which can not only cleanse and clean but also deodorize and decompose organic matter in an effective and safe way when in use.
Summary of the Invention
In order to overcome the above disadvantages and limitations of the prior art detergent products, the invention provides the probiotic-containing natural compositions for simultaneously cleansing, deodorizing, and decomposing adhesive organic matter that do not contain or contain a very low level of synthetic chemicals with the main function of enhancing efficiency and usage feeling; the invention also relates to detergent products produced from the compositions, which are highly effective in use, environmentally friendly, and at the same time limit the undesirable side effects.
1. Technical problems to be solved:
To achieve the above objective, the present invention provides detergent base compositions and derivative products whose main active ingredients of choice comprise an ingredient (a) which is a natural plant extract blended with an ingredient (b) which is a living microbe system capable of deodorizing and decomposing organic matter.
The blending of the ingredients to form the above detergent base composition helps the base composition not only have cleansing and cleaning properties, but also being a medium for selected yeasts and microbe system to exist, grow and promote their beneficial effects during the storage and usage of the product, thanks to:
The ingredient (a) is a plant extract, which, although having detergent properties, is organic compounds in aqueous medium, so at specified blending ratios, the base composition is still a medium full of nutrients (mainly comprising sources of carbon, inorganic salts, water), the suitable pH helps the selected beneficial microbe system continue to exist, increase biomass and promote the functions of deodorizing and decomposing adhesive organic matter when in use.
The ingredient (b) in the base composition helps promote the functions of the beneficial microbe system in cleaning and deodorizing, and also functions to reduce irritability as commonly seen with general detergent products.
The blending of the ingredient (a) into the ingredient (b) not only ensures the activity of the natural materials in the ingredient (a), but also makes the composition difficult to deteriorate due to the impact of harmful bacteria, microorganisms and yeasts during the storage, production and usage. Due to the capacity of competing (due to the activity of aerobic microorganism group and actinomycet group) with microorganisms and molds that often exist and arise during the storage of natural substances, the ingredient (b) can also be considered a natural preservation enhancer for the composition.
The natural extracts in the ingredient (a) are usually alkaline (highly concentrated, the pH usually in the range of 8-10), while the ingredient (b) is usually acidic (highly concentrated, the pH usually in the range of 4-6). The blending of such groups of ingredients at a specified ratio will help the base composition have a suitable pH for effectively cleansing, reducing skin irritation when exposuring or help achieve detergent functionability without the need of using chemical pH adjusters to meet the desired requirements as currently applied to chemical products.
As the detergent base composition has the two main active ingredients as mentioned above as well as all the necessary main functions such as cleansing, deodorizing, and decomposing adhesive organic matter, it can be considered a natural detergent composition.
According to an embodiment of the invention, from the above detergent base composition, it is possible to produce household and industrial detergent products (liquid, semi-solid or solid) with high usage efficiency by adding a suitable amount of detergent enhancers, humectants, preservatives, coloring agents, flavoring agents, thickeners, etc.
The combination of the detergent base composition with the above-mentioned enhancers will confer a very high usage efficiency to the final compositions, to a level that is better or comparable to products containing conventional synthetic chemicals in terms of functionality and good feeling of users, thereby creating a system of effective natural detergent products which reduce undesirable effects on the body when using and exposuring frequently and for a long-term.
2. Technical features of the invention:
The probiotic-containing natural composition (detergent base composition) according to the invention contains two (02) ingredients, including: - Ingredient (a): a natural plant extract which is the extract in water (fermented or unfermented) of soapberry fruit ( Sapindus mukorossi of the family Sapindaceae); and
- Ingredient (b): a living microbe system which is the EM (effective microorganisms) probiotic preparation including primary EM (EM-1) product or secondary EM (EM-2) product. In the EM probiotic preparation, there are more than 80 species of anaerobic and aerobic microorganisms belonging to the group of photosynthetic bacteria (synthesizing organic matter from carbon dioxide and water (H2O), nitrogen fixing bacteria (using organic matter from photosynthetic bacteria to convert nitrogen in the air into nitrogen compounds), actinomycetes (producing antibiotics that inhibit pathogenic microorganisms and decomposing organic matter), lactic acid bacteria, yeasts (producing vitamins and amino acids).
Probiotic-containing natural detergent products produced from the detergent base composition according to the invention can be in a homogeneous liquid, semisolid or solid form, and contain the following three (03) ingredients:
- The two main ingredients contained in the base composition, namely the ingredient (a) which is a natural plant extract, and the ingredient (b) which is a living microbe system (EM-1 or EM-2); and
- Ingredient (c) which is a functionality and preservation enhancer, in particular including, but not limited to:
- Detergent, cleaning and disinfection enhancers: sodium bicarbonate, apple cider vinegar, traditional fermentation vinegar, synthetic vinegar (acetic acid), ether glucoside, decyl glucoside, extracts from clove, thyme, piper betel; essential oils from pine, cajeput, cinnamon, etc.
• pH adjusters: sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, limewater, ash-water, alkaline/alkaline earth salts, acidic acid, acetic acid, etc. • Humectants, emollients, thickeners and viscosity stabilizers: glycerine, xanthan gum, Carbomer 940, sodium carbomer, Solagum, HEC (cellulose ether), dimethicone, etc.
• Flavoring agents, coloring agents: peppermint, essential oils, fragrances, etc.
• Preservation enhancers: potassium sorbate, etc.
New technical features of the products according to the invention as compared to commercially available products:
- There is a blending of natural chemical ingredients that has detergent and cleaning properties (i.e., ingredient (a): natural plant extract) with probiotic- containing ingredients that help remove odorous organic matter and adhesive organic matter (i.e., ingredient (b): living microbe system, EM- 1 or EM-2); the combination of these two ingredients does not necessarily exclude the additional blending of an effective amount of some synthetic chemicals in regulatorily permitted concentrations, thereby having additional functionality and increasing storage and usage time for the products according to the invention;
- Through the market of detergents, cleaners and deodorizers, it is known that products in this field currently can be divided into four (04) main groups:
Group (1) includes synthetic chemical detergent products; Group (2) includes detergent products prepared from natural materials of plant oils; Group (3) includes detergent products containing natural extracts, such as soapbeny blended with herbal plant extracts (including essential oils); and Group (4) includes deodorizing products containing specific microorganisms and enzymes in accordance with usage requirements.
Not mentioning Group (1) due to the fundamental difference from the proposed invention: The composition and manufacturing process is the blending of synthetic chemicals. In particular, the products often contain chemicals such as aluminum chloride, triclosan and propylene glycol, which can cause negative health effects when used for a long time such as folliculitis, skin irritation, etc. Not mentioning Group (2) due to the fundamental difference from the proposed invention: The composition and manufacturing process from natural materials (plant oils) comprises the products of saponification reaction. Therefore, the natural materials are no longer present in the products.
For the products of Group (3): Although the main active ingredients of the products are natural extracts, the products only have the main function of cleansing and disinfecting.
For the products of Group (4): Although the main active ingredients of the product are a system of specific microorganisms and enzymes, the products only have the main function of deodorizing and decomposing organic matter.
Thus, it can be seen that there is not any detergent product containing a natural plant extract and a microbe system in the current market for deodorizing and decomposing organic matter as the composition and/or the product according to the invention.
Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments
To achieve the above objective, the present invention provides detergent base compositions and detergent products made from these base compositions, prepared by evenly and homogeneously blending the ingredients in a properly specified ratio (not a strictly mandatory ratio, a minor adjustment to the ratio is acceptable and still within the scope of the invention), particlularly as follows:
1. Detergent base compositions:
1.1. Ingredients:
+ Ingredient (a) - natural plant extract: the extract in water of soapberry fruit ( Sapindus mukorossi of the family Sapindaceae); and
+ Ingredient (b) - living microbe system: the pimary EM product (EM-1) or secondary EM product (EM-2).
1.2. Methods of making detergent base compositions: a) Step 1 : Preparing ingredient (a) - natural plant extract, which is the extract of soapberry fruit in water as the sovent:
- Soaking an amount of dried soapberry fruit in a necessary volume of water in 3-6 hours, the ratio between the weight of soapberry fruit and the volume of water (m(SB)/V(H2O)) may vary depending on the concentration of the extract to comply with the usage requirements of the compositions and the derivative products, such as:
• To prepare a concentrated extract for use in making a concentrated detergent base composition: average m(SB)/V(H2O) of choice is 150 g/L.
* To prepare a diluted extract for use in making a diluted detergent base composition: average m(SB)/V (H2O) of choice is 100 g/L.
- Boiling, gently heating from boiling in 30-45 minutes, possibly adding water during boiling to compensate for water evaporation;
- Covering and incubating the soapberry extract until naturally cooling down to the room temperature (preferably in the range of 20-40°C);
- Filtering the residue; pouring the extract into closed containers (plastic, wood, glass containers) to store the semi-finished product. In order to increase the storage time to avoid molds and microorganisms for the soapberry extract, in the pre-storage stage, it is possible to add preservatives (such as potassium sorbate, in an amount of 0.5-1 gram per liter of the extract). b) Step 2: Preparing ingredient (b) - living microbe system:
- The EM product of choice is a primary EM product (EM-1), or a secondary EM product (EM-2), which is a quality standardized industrial product and popular on the market.
If there is a requirement of not containing impurities, contaminating bacteria, or heavy metals, etc., for the detergent products, the EM product needs to be produced and purified according to die appropriate methods. - Industrial enzymes can be added into the EM product. The type of enzymes is selected depending on the substrate orientation to the organic matter adhered to the object to increase the usage efficiency of the detergent products, in a small amount in accordance with the usage instructions of the enzyme product. b) Step 3 : Blending to form the detergent base composition according to the general process:
- Pouring the ingredient (a) into the ingredient (b), so as not to suddenly change the pH of the ingredient (b), however, it is not strictly mandatory; the volumetric ratio V(a)/V(b) of the two ingredients (a) and (b) may vary according to the concentration of the extract and in accordance with the usage requirements of the compositions and the derivative products, such as:
• To prepare a concentrated detergent base composition for use in making a strong detergent product, such as bleach liquid, laundry liquid: the volumetric ratio of the concentrated soapberry extract and the EM product V(a)/V(b) is from 2/1 to 4/1.
• To prepare a diluted detergent base composition for use in making a balanced detergent product such as dishwashing liquid, floor cleaning liquid: the volumetric ratio of the diluted soapberry extract and the EM product V(a)/V(b) is from 2/1 to 3/1.
- Gently stiring so that all ingredients are evenly and homogeneously blended together, avoiding foaming (due to the high foaming capacity of the ingredient (a)) during blending; the blending is carried out under normal pressure and room temperature conditions (most preferably in the range of 20-40°C), it is necessary to ensure hygiene requirements, to avoid impurities, especially microorganisms and molds. The blending can be performed manually or by specialized equipments in a clean room using separate machines (filling, stirring, etc.), however, it is not madatory.
- Measuring the pH of the composition after blending (pH adjusters can be used) to ensure not only the suitable environment for the microbe system and enzymes (if any) but also the product functions. - Filling the product into closed bottles (plastic, wood, glass bottles), minimizing empty space in the bottles, storing in a place where direct light is limited and having temperature of 20-40°C.
2. Detergent products made from the detergent base compositions:
2.1 Ingredients:
The derivative detergent products made from the detergent base compositions can be in a homogeneous (liquid, semi-solid or solid) form and contain three (03) ingredients:
- The two main ingredients in the base compositions, namely (a) the natural plant extract, and (b) the living microbe system of EM-1 or EM-2 product.
- Ingredient (c) is a group of functionality and preservation enhancers, in particular (but not limited to and not strictly mandatory) such as:
Plant extracts with detergent properties such as fructus gleditsia (fructus gleditschiae) extract; sodium bicarbonate: 1-4% (by weight); glycerine: 0-5% (by volume); vinegar (acetic acid): 0-5% (by volume); SLS or SLES: 0-5% (by volume); salt (NaCl): 0-2% (by weight); thickeners (xanthan gum): 0-0.8% (by weight); preservatives (potassium sorbate or substances of the same function): 0-0.5% (by weight); flavoring agents (including essential oils), coloring agents (synthetic, most suitable are food coloring agents): a small amount as required by the product (if necessary); water (H2O): up to 100% by volume of the product
In the additional enhancers, the extract of fructus gleditsia (of the family Caesalpiniaceae) is prepared as follows: Preliminarily processing the fructus gleditsia by grilling directly on a heat source; cooking an appropriate amount of pre-processed fructus gleditsia in a necessary amount of water (H2O) (the ratio between the weight of fructus gleditsia and the volume of water is 50-100 g per liter) until boiling, gently heating from boiling for 15-20 minutes; extracting and filtering off the residue, collecting the clear solution and allowing it to naturally cool down to the room temperature (most preferably 20-40°C); pouring into closed containers (plastic, glass containers) to store the semi-finished product. In order to increase the storage time to avoid molds and microorganisms for the fructus gleditsia extract, in the pre-storage stage, it is possible to add preservatives (such as potassium sorbate, in an amount of 1-1.5 grams per liter of the extract).
- The substances and additional amounts of enhancers are selected depending on the functions and usage requirements of the detergent products and constitute specific formulation for each type and product line.
2.2. Method of making the products:
- Additionally blending the materials in the ingredient (c) - functionality and preservation enhancers into the detergent base composition in accordance with the requirements of the product to be made;
Blending is performed by gently stirring the materials until homogeneous under normal pressure and room temperature conditions (most preferably 20-40°C), it is necessary to ensure hygiene requirements, to avoid impurities, especially microorganisms and molds; the blending can be performed manually or by specialized equipments in a clean room using separate machines (filling, stirring, etc.) for each group of finished products, however, it is not madatory.
The process of blending the substances in the ingredient (c) into the detergent base composition is often in a sequential order so that the substances of different phases can be easily blended homogeneously with each other; the order of addition of the substances is not strictly mandatory, but the blending of different materials can make them react with each other, so it is necessary to determine a specific blending order so as to reduce the impact of the reaction (if the reaction is not necessary) or time is needed for the reaction to completely occur (if the reaction is necessary).
- Measuring the pH of the mixture after blending (pH adjusters can be used) to ensure not only the suitable environment for the microbe system and enzymes (if any) but also the product functions . - Filling the product into closed bottles (plastic, glass bottles), storing in a place where direct light is limited and having temperature of 20-40°C.
Examples
The following examples show the composition and the blending ratio of ingredients in realtion to the detergent base composition and a number of products derived from this composition. The examples are intended to further clarify the nature of the invention, but are not limited to products made from the base compositions, based on the principle that the products contain ingredients of group (b) (selective microbe system and enzymes) blended with ingredients of group (a) (plant extracts for cleansing, foaming, and disinfecting, etc.), and it is possible to add ingredients of group (c) (functionality and preservation enhancers).
The examples only show the ingredients so as to ensure the primary functions essential to the products, thus these are merely basic products (popupar products). The addition or replacement of more effective ingredients in the making of the products is not restricted, so as to form better products of the same type (mid-end products and high-end products).
Example 1: Making 1 liter (1000 ml) of liquid detergent composition:
- Using 600-800 ml of concentrated soapberry extract (60-80% by volume of the composition), blending well with the following ingredients: 200-300 ml of EM-1 product (equivalent to 20-30% by volume of the composition); 0-50 ml of glycerine (equivalent to 0-5% by volume of the composition); 20-100 ml of acetic acid- vinegar (equivalent to 2-10% of the volume of the composition); sodium bicarbonate (20-50g, 2-5% by weight). Adding flavoring agents (citronella essential oils, lemongrass essential oils, fragrances, etc.), coloring agents (food coloring agents, synthetic colorants of various types) and preservatives (potassium sorbate or substances of the same function in 0-0.5% by weight); water (H2O) up to 100% by volume of the composition.
- It is possible to add an amount of SLS (or substances of the same function) to increase the foaming capacity, increase the degreasing efficiency (0-50 ml, equivalent to 0-5% by volume of the composition), in this case it is possible to reduce the amount of glycerine and vinegar in proportion to the amount of SLS added.
- A strong semi-solid detergent compostion (bleaching cream) can be made by blending the additional xanthan gum and/or substances of the same function (2-5 grams) into the above-said strong liquid detergent compostion.
Example 2: Making 1 liter (1000 ml) of liquid composition for cleaning floors, porcelain, wood, glass articles, and ceramic tile walls:
- Using 500-700 ml of diluted soapberry extract (50-70% by volume of the composition), blending well with the following ingredients: 250-350 ml of EM1 product (equivalent to 25-35% by volume of the composition); fructus gleditsia extract: 0-5% by volume; 0-50 ml of glycerine (equivalent to 0-5% by volume of the composition); 0-50 ml of acetic acid-vinegar (equivalent to 0-5% by volume of the composition); sodium bicarbonate (20-50 grams, 2-5% by weight). Adding flavoring agents (citronella essential oils, lemongrass essential oils, fragrances, etc.), coloring agents (food coloring agents, synthetic coloring agents of various types) and preservatives (potassium sorbate of 0.05-0.3% by weight or substances of the same function).
- A strong semi-solid detergent compostion can be made by blending the additional xanthan gum and/or substances of the same function (2-5 g) into the above-said liquid detergent composition.
Effectiveness of the Invention
The priobiotic-containing detergent compositions according to the invention can be favorably applied in industrial production, because: + Ingredient group (a) includes natural extracts whose content can be determined in the laboratory/test when necessary by separate suitable methods (such as determining the saponin content in the extract)- The production of these semifinished liquids should ensure a ratio between the weight of the soapberry fruit, the initial volume of water and the amount of resulting product to reach the required content after extraction. At the same time, it is possible to combine with the storage of samples, testing of saponin content in the stored samples and comparing the obtained products with the stored samples to ensure that the quality of the extracts is uniform for different production batches. On the other hand, soapberry is a popular plant with low demand for pesticides and fertilizers; has a large distribution area in Vietnam and some parts of the world; has been systematically exploited and quality classified, so it can be used as a sustainable resource for industry.
+ Ingredient group (b) is EM-1 and EM-2 which are popular products on the market, and can be completely determined as to quality and accurate quantity according to the requirements for functions and maximum microbial criteria of the products.
+ Ingredient group (c) is materials for the production of common chemicals on the market, which have been standardized in accordance with standards.
+ The quantification of blending ingredients at specified ratios for each product can be by volume and/or by weight, so there are no special requirements for the exact quantification of ingredients of powder or liquid forms with different viscosities.
+ As the production stages are mainly boiling, extracting, distilling, weighing/measuring, blending and dispersing the materials, specialized skills of direct labors are not required.
+ In addition, the existing conventional equipments/production lines can be easily employed to perform all stages of production as per any requirements and production scales. These includes, but not limited to: distillation (steam-distillation) pots, extract annealing-heating and cooking pots, scum and sediment filters, stirring devices for different types of solutions/mixtures, liquid filling equipments, product packaging equipments, etc.
Advantages, effectiveness, safety and environmental friendliness of the compositions:
+ As the natural plant extract ingredients of the selected compostions are from soapberry, which is a popular plant that has been used in cleansing and cleaning for a long time according to the traditional experience, it is possible to clearly confirm the advantages, effectiveness and safety of these active detergent ingredients in comparison to other synthetic detergent chemicals, especially the advantage of friendly level with the environment.
+ At the same time, the EM microbe system ingredient used in the compostions have been confirmed to have good effects in improving the environment due to its ability to deodorize and decompose organic matter.
Diversed applications:
+ In household: products used in the kitchen (according to specified standards) such as dishwashing liquids, floor cleaning liquids (including wooden floors), kitchen/table and chair cleaning liquids; products for removing stains, refractory organic stains, cleaning, deodoring such as glass cleaning liquids, detergent liquids/creams for cleansing house and restroom walls/tiles and utensils (tables and chairs, kitchen tables, pots, porcelain/ceramic articles, glass/crystal articles, stainless steel items, furnitures).
+ In industry, including: Products used similarly to those in civil usage, but due to their ability to deodorize and decompose organic matter, they are very suitable for cleaning production workshops, tools and equipments, especially in the food processing industry.
