최근에는 내열 식품 용기에 주로 사용되는 폴리카보네이트에 있어서, 비스페놀 A의 유해성이 밝혀지면서, 친환경적이고, 투명성 및 내열성을 지닌 폴리에스테르 수지에 대한 필요성이 증대되고 있다.
종래의 테레프탈산과 에틸렌글리콜로 구성된 호모폴리에스테르의 경우, 연신 결정화와 열 고정을 통해 기계적 물성 및 내열성을 어느 정도 향상시킬 수 있으나, 적용 용도 및 내열성 향상에 한계가 있다. 따라서, 최근에는 전분으로부터 유도되는 바이오 매스 유래 화합물인 이소소르비드를 폴리에스테르 수지의 공단량체로 사용하여, 폴리에스테르 수지의 내열성을 향상시키는 방법이 개발되었다. 그러나, 이소소르비드는 이차 알코올이므로, 반응성이 낮아, 시트나 병의 제조에 사용되는 고점도의 폴리에스테르 수지를 형성하기 어렵다고 알려져 있다.
또한, 생분해성 지방족 폴리에스테르 수지의 대표적인 PBAT(polybutylene adipate-co-terephthalate) 수지는 지방족과 방향족을 포함하는 공중합 수지로서, 다양한 가공성을 가진다. 그러나 단가가 고가이어서 이를 원료로 이용하여 제조되는 포장용 필름 등 제품 단가를 크게 높이는 원인이 되고 있으며, 내열성과 기계적 물성이 떨어지는 단점을 가지고 있다.
이에 따라, 환경 친화적이면서, 종래의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지(예를 들면, PBAT수지)가 지닌 기계적 물성 및 내열성이 떨어지는 문제점을 개선하고, 색가 및 생분해성이 더욱 향상된 폴리에스테르 수지에 대한 개발이 절실히 필요한 실정이다.
본 발명은 상기한 종래 기술의 문제점들을 해결하고자 한 것으로, 아디프산 또는 이의 에스테르를 포함하는 디카르복실 성분과 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜을 포함하는 디올 성분을 특정 함량으로 공중합함으로써, 내열성과 기계적 물성이 우수할 뿐만 아니라 색가 및 생분해성도 우수한 폴리에스테르 수지 및 그 제조 방법을 제공하는 것을 기술적 과제로 한다.
상기한 기술적 과제를 달성하기 위하여, 본 발명의 제1측면에 따르면, 디카르복실 성분으로부터 유래된 반복단위; 및 디올 성분으로부터 유래된 반복 단위를 포함하는 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지로서, 상기 디카르복실 성분이 상기 디카르복실 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 지방족 디카르복실 화합물 30 내지 70 몰%; 및 방향족 디카르복실 화합물 30 내지 70 몰%를 포함하고, 상기 지방족 디카르복실 화합물이 아디프산 또는 이의 에스테르를 포함하며, 상기 디올 성분이 상기 디올 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 무수당 알코올 0.1 내지 23 몰% 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜 0.1 내지 30 몰%를 포함하고, 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜의 합계 함량이 상기 디올 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 5 내지 53 몰%인, 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지가 제공된다.
또한, 본 발명의 제2측면에 따르면, 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 제조 방법으로서, (1) 지방족 디카르복실 화합물 및 방향족 디카르복실 화합물을 포함하는 디카르복실 성분과 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜을 포함하는 디올 성분을 에스테르화 반응 또는 에스테르 교환 반응시키는 단계; 및 (2) 상기 (1) 단계에서 얻어진 반응 생성물을 중축합 반응시키는 단계를 포함하고, 상기 지방족 디카르복실 화합물이 아디프산 또는 이의 에스테르를 포함하며, 상기 디카르복실 성분이 상기 디카르복실 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 지방족 디카르복실 화합물 30 내지 70 몰%; 및 방향족 디카르복실 화합물 30 내지 70 몰%를 포함하고, 상기 디올 성분이 상기 디올 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 무수당 알코올 0.1 내지 23 몰% 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜 0.1 내지 30 몰%를 포함하고, 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜의 합계 함량이 상기 디올 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 5 내지 53 몰%인, 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 제조 방법이 제공된다.
또한, 본 발명의 제 3 측면에 따르면, 본 발명에 따른 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지를 포함하는 성형품이 제공된다.
본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지 내의 무수당 알코올은 유리전이온도(Tg)를 상승시켜 내열성을 개선하고, 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜은 색가를 개선할 수 있다. 또한, 무수당 알코올과 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜은 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지 내의 분자쇄의 구조적 규칙성을 교란하여 생분해성을 더욱 향상시킬 수 있다. 따라서, 본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지는 무수당 알코올과 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜을 특정 함량 범위로 포함함으로써, 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 내열성이 향상되고, 기계적 물성을 우수하게 유지하면서도 색가 및 생분해성이 더욱 향상될 수 있다.
이하, 본 발명을 보다 상세히 설명한다.
본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지는 디카르복실 성분으로부터 유래된 반복단위; 및 디올 성분으로부터 유래된 반복 단위를 포함하는 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지로서, 상기 디카르복실 성분이 상기 디카르복실 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 지방족 디카르복실 화합물 30 내지 70 몰%; 및 방향족 디카르복실 화합물 30 내지 70 몰%를 포함하고, 상기 지방족 디카르복실 성분이 아디프산 또는 이의 에스테르를 포함하며, 상기 디올 성분이 상기 디올 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 무수당 알코올 0.1 내지 23 몰% 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜 0.1 내지 30 몰%를 포함하고, 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜의 합계 함량이 상기 디올 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 5 내지 53 몰%이다.
본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 디카르복실 성분에 포함되는 지방족 디카르복실 화합물의 함량은 상기 디카르복실 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 30 몰% 이상, 35 몰% 이상, 40 몰% 이상, 45 몰% 이상 또는 50 몰% 이상일 수 있고, 70 몰% 이하, 65 몰% 이하, 60 몰% 이하, 55 몰% 이하 또는 50 몰% 이하일 수 있으며, 예를 들어 30 내지 70 몰%, 40 내지 65 몰% 또는 50 내지 60 몰%일 수 있다. 상기 지방족 디카르복실 화합물의 함량이 상기 범위를 벗어나는 경우, 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 유리전이온도가 저하되고, 내열성이 열악해질 수 있다.
또한, 상기 디카르복실 성분에 포함되는 방향족 디카르복실 화합물의 함량은 상기 디카르복실 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 30 몰% 이상, 35 몰% 이상, 40 몰% 이상, 45 몰% 이상 또는 50 몰% 이상일 수 있고, 70 몰% 이하, 65 몰% 이하, 60 몰% 이하, 55 몰% 이하 또는 50 몰% 이하일 수 있으며, 예를 들어 30 내지 70 몰%, 40 내지 65 몰% 또는 50 내지 60 몰%일 수 있다. 상기 방향족 디카르복실 화합물의 함량이 상기 범위를 벗어나는 경우, 폴리에스테르 수지의 생분해성이 저하되고, 기계적 물성(예를 들어, 신율)이 열악해질 수 있다.
상기 지방족 디카르복실 화합물이 아디프산 또는 이의 에스테르를 포함하며, 상기 지방족 디카르복실 화합물은 아디프산 또는 이의 에스테르 이외의 탄소수 4 내지 14의 지방족 디카르복실산 또는 이의 에스테르를 더 포함할 수 있다.
일 구체예에서, 상기 아디프산 또는 이의 에스테르 이외의 지방족 디카르복실 화합물은 사이클로헥산디카르복실산 또는 이의 에스테르, 세바식산 또는 이의 에스테르, 이소데실숙신산 또는 이의 에스테르, 말레산 또는 이의 에스테르, 푸마르산 또는 이의 에스테르, 숙신산 또는 이의 에스테르, 글루타릭산 또는 이의 에스테르, 아젤라산 또는 이의 에스테르, 이타콘산 또는 이의 에스테르, 글루탐산 또는 이의 에스테르, 2,5-푸란디카르복실산 또는 이의 에스테르, 테트라하이드로푸란-2,5-디카르복실산 또는 이의 에스테르, 테트라하이드로푸란-3,5-디카르복실산 또는 이의 에스테르, 운데칸이산 또는 이의 에스테르, 도데칸이산 또는 이의 에스테르, 트리데칸이산 또는 이의 에스테르, 테트라데칸이산 또는 이의 에스테르, 및 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 그룹으로부터 선택되는 것일 수 있다. 상기 지방족 디카르복실산의 에스테르 화합물은 모노에스테르 화합물, 디에스테르 화합물 또는 이들의 혼합물일 수 있고, 바람직하게는 디에스테르 화합물일 수 있다. 예를 들면, 상기 지방족 디카르복실산의 디에스테르 화합물은, 디메틸 아디페이트, 디에틸 아디페이트, 디메틸 숙시네이트 또는 디에틸 숙시네이트 등일 수 있다.
상기 방향족 디카르복실 화합물이 탄소수 8 내지 16의 방향족 디카르복실산 또는 이의 에스테르를 포함할 수 있다.
일 구체예에서, 상기 방향족 디카르복실 화합물은 프탈산 또는 이의 에스테르, 테레프탈산 또는 이의 에스테르, 이소프탈산 또는 이의 에스테르, 1,5-나프탈렌디카르복실산 또는 이의 에스테르, 2,6-나프탈렌디카르복실산 또는 이의 에스테르, 디펜산 또는 이의 에스테르, p-페닐렌 디아세트산 또는 이의 에스테르, o-페닐렌 디아세트산 또는 이의 에스테르, 및 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 그룹으로부터 선택되는 것일 수 있다. 상기 방향족 디카르복실산의 에스테르 화합물은 모노에스테르 화합물, 디에스테르 화합물 또는 이들의 혼합물일 수 있고, 바람직하게는 디에스테르 화합물일 수 있다. 예를 들면, 상기 방향족 디카르복실산의 에스테르 화합물은, 디메틸 테레프탈레이트, 디에틸 테레프탈레이트, 디메틸 이소프탈레이트 또는 디에틸 이소프탈레이트 등일 수 있다.
본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지를 제조하는 데 사용되는 상기 디올 성분은, 상기 디올 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 무수당 알코올 0.1 내지 23 몰% 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜 0.1 내지 30 몰%를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 디올 성분에 포함되는 무수당 알코올은 일반적으로 수소화 당(hydrogenated sugar) 또는 당 알코올(sugar alcohol)이라고 불리우는, 당류가 갖는 환원성 말단기에 수소를 부가하여 얻어지는 화합물로부터 하나 이상의 물 분자를 제거하여 얻은 임의의 물질을 의미한다.
본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지 내의 무수당 알코올은 유리전이온도를 상승시켜 내열성을 개선하면서도, 수지 내의 분자쇄의 구조적 규칙성을 교란하여 생분해성을 더욱 향상시킬 수 있다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 무수당 알코올로는 헥시톨의 탈수물인 디안하이드로헥시톨이 바람직하게 사용될 수 있으며, 보다 바람직하게 상기 무수당 알코올은 이소소르비드(1,4-3,6-디안하이드로소르비톨), 이소만니드(1,4-3,6-디안하이드로만니톨), 이소이디드(1,4-3,6-디안하이드로이디톨) 또는 이들의 혼합물로 이루어진 그룹으로부터 선택될 수 있고, 가장 바람직하게는 이소소르비드가 사용될 수 있다.
무수당 알코올의 함량은 전체 디올 성분 100 몰%에 대하여 0.1 몰% 이상, 0.5 몰% 이상, 1 몰% 이상, 3 몰% 이상, 5 몰% 이상, 8 몰% 이상, 10 몰% 이상 또는 12 몰% 이상일 수 있으며, 23 몰% 이하, 20 몰% 이하, 19 몰% 이하, 18 몰% 이하, 15 몰% 이하, 12 몰% 이하, 10 몰% 이하 또는 8 몰% 이하일 수 있고, 예를 들어 0.1 내지 23 몰%, 0.1 내지 20 몰%, 0.5 내지 20 몰% 또는 0.5 내지 19 몰%일 수 있다. 무수당 알코올의 함량이 0.1 몰% 미만일 경우에는, 수지의 내열성 및 생분해성 개선 효과가 미미할 수 있고, 23 몰%를 초과하면 반응성이 낮아 반응 속도가 현저히 느려지고 이에 따라 고분자량의 수지를 제조할 수 없고, 수지의 색상이 저하되고, 기계적 물성이 열악해질 수 있다.
상기 디올 성분에 포함되는 상기 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜은 무수당 알코올의 양 말단 또는 일 말단(바람직하게는 양 말단)의 히드록시기와 알킬렌 옥사이드를 반응시켜 얻어지는 부가물이다.
본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지 내의 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜은 색가를 개선할 수 있고, 기계적 물성을 향상시킬 수 있으며, 수지 내의 분자쇄의 구조적 규칙성을 교란하여 생분해성을 더욱 향상시킬 수 있다.
일 구체예에서, 상기 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜 중의 무수당 알코올은 이소소르비드, 이소만니드, 이소이디드 또는 이들의 혼합물로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택될 수 있으며, 바람직하게는 이소소르비드일 수 있다.
일 구체예에서, 상기 알킬렌 옥사이드는 탄소수 2 내지 8의 선형 또는 탄소수 3 내지 8의 분지형 알킬렌 옥사이드일 수 있고, 보다 구체적으로는, 에틸렌 옥사이드, 프로필렌 옥사이드 또는 이의 조합일 수 있다.

본 발명에서 사용되는 디올 성분은, 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜 이외의 지방족 디올을 더 포함할 수 있으며, 구체적으로, 탄소수 2 내지 15의 지방족 디올, 보다 구체적으로 탄소수 2 내지 10의 지방족 디올이며, 예를 들면, 에틸렌 글리콜, 디에틸렌 글리콜, 트리에틸렌 글리콜, 프로판 디올 (1,2-프로판 디올 및 1,3-프로판 디올 등), 부탄 디올 (1,2-부탄 디올, 1,3-부탄 디올 및 1,4-부탄 디올 등), 펜탄 디올 (1,2-펜탄 디올, 1,3-펜탄 디올, 1,4-펜탄 디올 및 1,5-펜탄 디올 등), 헥산 디올 (1,2-헥산 디올, 1,3-헥산 디올, 1,4-헥산 디올, 1,5-헥산 디올 및 1,6-헥산 디올 등), 네오펜틸 글리콜, 사이클로헥산 디올 (1,2-사이클로헥산 디올, 1,3-사이클로헥산 디올 및 1,4-사이클로헥산 디올 등), 사이클로헥산 디메탄올 (1,2-사이클로헥산 디메탄올, 1,3-사이클로헥산 디메탄올 및 1,4-사이클로헥산 디메탄올 등), 테트라메틸사이클로부탄 디올, 트리시클로데칸디메탄올, 아다만탄디올, 2,2-디메틸-1,3-프로판 디올, 2-에틸-2-t-부틸-1,3-프로판 디올, 2,2,4-트리메틸-1,6-헥산 디올 또는 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 그룹으로부터 선택될 수 있으며, 바람직하게는 부탄 디올일 수 있다.
상기 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜 이외의 지방족 디올의 함량은 디올 성분 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 47 몰% 이상, 50 몰% 이상, 53 몰% 이상, 55 몰% 이상, 60 몰% 이상, 65 몰% 이상 또는 70 몰% 이상일 수 있고, 95 몰% 이하, 90 몰% 이하, 88 몰% 이하, 85 몰% 이하, 80 몰% 이하, 75 몰% 이하 또는 70 몰% 이하일 수 있으며, 예를 들어 47 내지 95 몰%, 50 내지 95 몰%, 53 내지 95 몰%, 55 내지 92 몰% 또는 60 내지 90 몰%일 수 있다. 상기 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜 이외의 지방족 디올을 상기 수준으로 사용함으로써, 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 내열성을 우수하게 유지하고, 바이오 매스 유래 성분의 함량을 향상시켜 친환경 제품 용도로 적용하기 용이하면서도, 특히 기계적 물성(예를 들어, 신율 등)을 추가적으로 향상시킬 수 있다.
본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 고유 점도(IV)는, 상기 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지를 페놀과 테트라클로로에탄의 혼합물 (중량비 = 50:50)에 녹여 0.5 중량% 용액을 제조한 후, 우베로드 점도계를 이용하여 35℃에서 측정할 수 있으며, 고유 점도 값은 0.8 초과, 0.85 이상 또는 0.9 이상일 수 있고, 1.3 미만, 1.25 이하 또는 1.2 이하일 수 있으며, 예를 들어 0.8 초과 내지 1.3 미만, 0.85 내지 1.25 또는 0.9 내지 1.2일 수 있다. 고유 점도 값이 0.8 이하이면 내열성 및 기계적 물성이 열악해질 수 있고, 고유 점도 값이 1.3 이상이면 색상이 열악해질 수 있다.
또한, 본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지는 고유점도 변화율이 낮아 내열성이 우수하다. 고유점도 변화율은, 예를 들어 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지를 펠렛 형태로 제조한 후, 생분해성 폴리에스테르 펠렛 1g을 알루미늄 접시에 놓고, 65℃의 오븐에서 72 시간 동안 방치 후에 다시 꺼내어 상온에서 열이력을 제거한 후 고유점도를 측정하여 초기 고유점도 대비 변화율을 계산할 수 있으며, 본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 고유점도 변화율이 30% 미만일 수 있고, 바람직하게는 20% 미만일 수 있다. 상기 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 고유점도 변화율이 낮을수록 열에 의한 변성이 적다는 것을 의미하며, 즉 내열성이 우수함을 의미한다.
또한 본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지는 신율이 높아 기계적 물성이 우수하다. 상기 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 신율 측정은 예를 들면, ASTM D638에 의거하여 측정될 수 있고, 본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 신율은 400% 이상, 바람직하게는 450% 이상일 수 있다.
또한 본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지는 색상이 우수하고, 황변의 발생이 적다. 상기 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 색상의 우수함을 확인하기 위하여, 예를 들면, Nippon denshoku사의 ZE 6000을 이용하여 Color-b값을 측정할 수 있고, 상기 측정된 color-b값이 낮을수록 황변 발생이 적어, 색상이 우수함을 의미한다. 본 발명의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 color-b값은 25 이하, 바람직하게는 22 이하일 수 있다.
본 발명의 다른 측면에 따르면, (1) 지방족 디카르복실 화합물 및 방향족 디카르복실 화합물을 포함하는 디카르복실 성분과 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜을 포함하는 디올 성분을 에스테르화 반응 또는 에스테르 교환 반응시키는 단계; 및 (2) 상기 (1) 단계에서 얻어진 반응 생성물을 중축합 반응시키는 단계를 포함하고, 상기 지방족 디카르복실 화합물이 아디프산 또는 이의 에스테르를 포함하며, 상기 디카르복실 성분이 상기 디카르복실 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 지방족 디카르복실 화합물 30 내지 70 몰%; 및 방향족 디카르복실 화합물 30 내지 70 몰%를 포함하고, 상기 디올 성분이 상기 디올 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 무수당 알코올 0.1 내지 23 몰% 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜 0.1 내지 30 몰%를 포함하고, 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜의 합계 함량이 상기 디올 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 5 내지 53 몰%인, 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 제조 방법이 제공된다.
본 발명의 제조 방법에서 사용되는 디카르복실 성분, 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜을 포함하는 디올 성분은 전술한 성분들과 동일한 것을 사용할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 디올 성분은 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜 이외의 지방족 디올을 더 포함할 수 있다. 상기 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜 이외의 지방족 디올은 전술한 성분들과 동일한 것을 사용할 수 있고, 그 함량은 상기 디올 성분의 전체 100 몰% 기준으로, 47 내지 95 몰%일 수 있다.
본 발명의 제조 방법의 일 구체예에서, (1) 지방족 디카르복실 화합물 및 방향족 디카르복실 화합물을 포함하는 디카르복실 성분과 무수당 알코올 및 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜을 포함하는 디올 성분을 에스테르화 반응 또는 에스테르 교환 반응시키는 단계가 수행되며, 디카르복실 성분에 대한 디올 성분의 반응 몰비(디올 성분의 총 몰수/디카르복실 성분의 총 몰수)가 1.0 내지 1.5가 되도록 투입한 다음, 150 내지 250℃, 바람직하게는 200 내지 250℃, 더욱 바람직하게는 200 내지 240℃의 온도 및 0.1 내지 3.0 kgf/㎠, 바람직하게는 0.2 내지 2.0 kgf/㎠의 압력 조건(감압 조건)에서 에스테르화 반응 또는 에스테르 교환 반응이 수행될 수 있다.
여기서, 상기 디카르복실 성분에 대한 디올 성분의 반응 몰비(디올 성분의 총 몰수/디카르복실 성분의 총 몰수)가 1 미만이면, 중합 반응 시 미반응 디카르복실 성분이 잔류하여 폴리에스테르 수지의 기계적 물성 및 색상이 저하될 우려가 있고, 1.5를 초과하면 중합 반응 속도가 너무 느려서 폴리에스테르 수지의 생산성이 저하될 우려가 있다.
상기 에스테르화 반응 시간 또는 에스테르 교환 반응 시간은 통상 1 내지 5시간, 바람직하게는 3 내지 4시간 정도이며, 반응 온도 및 압력, 디카르복실 성분 대비 디올 성분의 반응 몰비에 따라 달라질 수 있다.
본 발명의 폴리에스테르 수지의 제조 방법에서, 에스테르화 반응 또는 에스테르 교환 반응(상기 (1) 단계)에는 촉매가 필요하지 않으나, 반응 시간 단축을 위하여 촉매를 사용할 수도 있다. 상기 에스테르화 반응 또는 에스테르 교환 반응(상기 (1) 단계)은 배치(Batch)식 또는 연속식으로 수행될 수 있고, 각각의 반응 원료는 별도로 투입될 수 있다.
본 발명의 폴리에스테르 수지의 제조 방법은, 상기 (1) 단계의 에스테르화 반응 또는 에스테르 교환 반응 후에, (2) 상기 (1) 단계에서 얻어진 반응 생성물을 중축합 반응시키는 단계를 수행할 수 있다.
중축합 반응의 개시 전에, 에스테르화 반응 또는 에스테르 교환 반응의 반응 생성물에 중축합 촉매 및 안정제 등을 첨가할 수 있다. 상기 중축합 촉매로는, 이 분야에서 통상적으로 사용되는 중축합 촉매를 제한 없이 사용할 수 있고, 예를 들면, 티타늄계 화합물, 게르마늄계 화합물, 안티몬계 화합물, 알루미늄계 화합물 및 주석계 화합물 중에서 선택되는 1종 또는 2종 이상의 혼합물을 사용할 수 있다. 중축합 반응에 첨가되는 상기 안정제로는, 일반적으로 인계 화합물을 사용할 수 있고, 예를 들면 인산, 트리메틸포스페이트, 트리에틸포스페이트 또는 이들의 혼합물을 사용할 수 있다.
상기 중축합 반응은 200 내지 280℃, 바람직하게는 210 내지 260℃, 더욱 바람직하게는 220 내지 240℃의 온도 및 500 내지 0.1mmHg의 감압 조건에서 수행된다. 상기 감압 조건은 중축합 반응의 부산물을 제거하기 위한 것이다.
일 구체예에서, (a) (i) 아디프산과 디메틸테레프탈레이트 및 아디프산 이외의 지방족 디카르복실 화합물을 포함하는 디카르복실 성분; 및 (ii) 이소소르비드 및 이소소르비드-알킬렌 글리콜과 필요에 따라, 다른 지방족 디올을 포함하는 디올 성분을 포함하는 중합 반응물을, 0.1 내지 3.0 kgf/㎠ 의 가압 압력 및 150 내지 250℃의 온도에서 1 내지 5시간의 평균 체류시간 동안 에스테르화 반응 또는 에스테르 교환 반응시킨다. (b) 다음으로, 상기 에스테르화 또는 에스테르 교환 반응 생성물을 500 내지 0.1㎜Hg의 감압 조건 및 200 내지 280℃의 온도에서 1 내지 10시간의 평균 체류시간 동안 중축합 반응시켜, 본 발명에 따른 폴리에스테르 수지를 제조할 수 있다. 바람직하게는, 상기 중축합 반응의 최종 도달 진공도는 1.0 ㎜Hg 이하이고, 상기 에스테르화 또는 에스테르 교환 반응은 불활성 기체 분위기 하에서 수행될 수 있다.
본 발명에 따른 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지는 내열성이 향상되고, 기계적 물성을 우수하게 유지하면서도 더욱 향상된 색가 및 생분해성을 나타내므로, 이를 성형하여, 다양한 용품에 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
따라서 본 발명의 또 다른 측면에 따르면, 본 발명에 따른 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지를 포함하는 성형품이 제공된다.
이하, 실시예 및 비교예를 통하여 본 발명을 보다 상세히 설명한다. 그러나 본 발명의 범위가 이들 실시예에 의하여 한정되는 것은 아니다.
[실시예]
<무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜의 제조>
제조예 1: 이소소르비드-에틸렌 글리콜(이소소르비드의 에틸렌 옥사이드 5몰 부가물)의 제조
이소소르비드 73.1g(0.5 몰), 에틸렌 옥사이드 110g(2.5 몰) 및 촉매로서의 수산화나트륨 0.2g을, 질소 가스관 및 냉각 장치가 설치된 컬럼, 교반기, 온도계 및 히터를 구비하고 가압이 가능한 반응 장치에 넣고 서서히 승온시켰다. 120℃ 내지 160℃의 온도에서 2시간 내지 4시간 동안 유지하면서 반응시켜 이소소르비드 양 말단의 히드록시기의 수소가 히드록시에틸기로 치환된 형태인 이소소르비드-에틸렌 글리콜(이소소르비드의 에틸렌 옥사이드 5몰 부가물)을 제조하였다.
제조예 2: 이소소르비드-프로필렌 글리콜의 제조(이소소르비드의 프로필렌 옥사이드 5몰 부가물)의 제조
이소소르비드 73.1g(0.5 몰), 프로필렌 옥사이드 145g(2.5 몰) 및 촉매로서의 수산화나트륨 0.2g을, 질소 가스관 및 냉각 장치가 설치된 컬럼, 교반기, 온도계 및 히터를 구비하고 가압이 가능한 반응 장치에 넣고 서서히 승온시켰다. 120℃ 내지 160℃의 온도에서 2시간 내지 4시간 동안 유지하면서 반응시켜 이소소르비드 양 말단의 히드록시기의 수소가 히드록시프로필기로 치환된 형태인 이소소르비드-프로필렌 글리콜(이소소르비드의 프로필렌 옥사이드 5몰 부가물)을 제조하였다.
<생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 제조>
실시예 1 내지 11 및 비교예 1 내지 10
1L의 용융 축합 반응기에 하기 표 1에 나타낸 조성의 반응물을 넣고, 산 성분(디메틸테레프탈레이트, DMT)을 기준으로 750 ppm의 티타늄계 촉매를 첨가한 후, 온도를 208℃까지 승온시켜 에스테르화 반응을 진행하였으며, 부산물로 생성되는 물과 알코올을 제거하였다. 부산물인 알코올이 계외로 80% 유출되었을 때, 축중합 촉매를 산 성분(DMT)을 기준으로 550ppm을 첨가하여 238℃까지 온도를 승온시키면서 반응계의 압력을 1 mmHg까지 서서히 감압하여 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지를 제조하였다. 상기 제조된 실시예 1 내지 11의 폴리에스테르 수지의 물성을 평가하여 하기 표 1에 나타내었고, 상기 제조된 비교예 1 내지 10의 폴리에스테르 수지의 물성을 평가하여 하기 표 2에 나타내었다.

<물성 평가>
상기 실시예 및 비교예에서 제조된 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 물성 평가는 다음과 같이 진행하였다.
(1) 고유 점도(IV): 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지를 페놀과 테트라클로로에탄의 혼합물 (중량비 = 50:50)에 녹여 0.5 중량% 용액을 제조한 후, 우베로드 점도계를 이용하여 35℃에서 고유 점도를 측정하였다.
(2) 융점: 열시차 주사 열량계 (DSC)를 이용하여 분당 10℃의 승온 속도로 승온한 후 냉각하여 열이력을 제거하고, 다시 승온하여 융점을 측정하였다.
(3) 색상(b): Nippon denshoku 社의 ZE 6000를 이용하여 color-b값을 측정하였다. 측정된 color-b값이 낮을수록 황변이 적은 것을 의미한다.
(4) 유리전이온도: 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지를 10℃/분의 승온 속도로 승온한 후 상온으로 냉각시킨 후, 승온 속도 10℃분에서 다시 스캔할 때의 유리전이온도(Tg)를 측정하였다.
(5) 신율: ASTM D638에 의거하여 신율을 측정하였다.
(6) 내열성 - 고유점도 변화: 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지를 펠렛 형태로 제조한 후, 생분해성 폴리에스테르 펠렛 1g을 알루미늄 접시에 놓고, 65℃의 오븐에서 72 시간 동안 방치 후에 다시 꺼내어 상온에서 열이력을 제거한 후 고유점도를 측정하여 초기 고유점도 대비 변화율을 계산하였다.
(7) 생분해성: 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지 칩을 냉동 분쇄 한 후, 퇴비 조건에서의 생분해를 측정하기 위해 30~40℃ 온도 및 55~60% 습도로 유지되는 퇴비 속에 상기 상기 냉동 분쇄된 수지 칩을 매립하여 일정한 시간 간격으로(1개월 후, 2개월 후 및 3개월 후) 생분해도를 측정하였다. 이때 사용된 표준 토양 및 매립 조건은 ASTM D 5338-92를 따랐다.

상기 표 1에 나타난 바와 같이, 본 발명에 따른 실시예 1 내지 11의 경우, 무수당 알코올(이소소르비드)과 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜(이소소르비드-알킬렌 글리콜)을 특정 함량 범위로 포함함으로써, 수지의 유리전이온도가 높고 내열성(고유점도 변화) 및 색상이 우수하였으며, 기계적 물성(신율) 및 생분해성도 우수하게 유지하였다.
그러나 상기 표 2에 나타난 바와 같이, 무수당 알코올과 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜이 사용되지 않은 종래의 생분해성 폴리에스테르(PBAT) 수지의 경우 (비교예 1), 유리전이온도가 저하되고, 색상이 열악하였으며, 고유점도 변화율이 30% 이상 내지 50% 미만으로 높아 내열성이 열악하였고, 무수당 알코올-알킬렌이 사용되지 않고, 무수당 알코올이 과량 사용된 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 경우 (비교예 2), 색상이 열악하고, 기계적 물성(신율)이 열악하였으며, 무수당 알코올이 사용되지 않고, 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜이 과량 사용된 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 경우 (비교예 3, 4 및 6), 유리전이온도가 저하되고, 색상이 열악하였으며, 고유점도 변화율이 30% 이상 내지 50% 미만 또는 50% 이상 내지 100%로 높아 내열성이 열악하였고, 무수당 알코올과 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜이 모두 과량으로 사용된 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 경우 (비교예 5), 반응성 저하로 인해 저분자량의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지가 수득되어, 유리전이온도가 저하되고, 색상이 열악하였으며, 고유점도 변화율이 50% 이상 내지 100%로 높아 내열성이 열악하였다.
또한 방향족 디카르복실 화합물이 과량 사용된 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 경우 (비교예 7), 생분해성이 저하되고, 기계적 물성(신율)이 열악해졌으며, 지방족 디카르복실 화합물이 과량 사용된 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 경우 (비교예 8), 유리전이온도가 저하되고, 고유점도 변화율이 50% 이상 내지 100%로 매우 높아 내열성이 매우 열악해졌으며, 무수당 알코올이 소량 사용된 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 경우 (비교예 9), 유리전이온도가 저하되고, 고유점도 변화율이 30% 이상 내지 50% 미만으로 높아 내열성이 열악해지는 문제점이 있었고, 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜이 소량 사용된 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 경우 (비교예 10), 유리전이온도가 저하되고, 고유점도 변화율이 30% 이상 내지 50% 미만으로 높아 내열성이 열악해지는 문제점이 있었고, 무수당 알코올이 과량 사용된 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 경우 (비교예 11), 반응성 저하로 인해 저분자량의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지가 수득되어, 색상이 열악하였고, 기계적 물성(신율)이 열악하였으며, 고유점도 변화율 또한 30% 이상 내지 50% 미만으로 높아 내열성이 열악해지는 문제점이 있었고, 무수당 알코올-알킬렌 글리콜이 과량 사용된 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지의 경우 (비교예 12), 반응성 저하로 인해 저분자량의 생분해성 폴리에스테르 수지가 수득되어, 색상이 열악하였으며, 고유점도 변화율이 50% 이상 내지 100%로 매우 높아 내열성이 매우 열악해졌다.
