DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS
Various exemplary embodiments of the present invention will now be described in detail with reference to the drawings. It should be noted that the relative arrangement of the components and steps, the numerical expressions, and numerical values set forth in these embodiments do not limit the scope of the present invention unless it is specifically stated otherwise.
The following description of at least one exemplary embodiment is merely illustrative in nature and is in no way intended to limit the invention, its application, or uses.
Techniques, methods and apparatus as known by one of ordinary skill in the relevant art may not be discussed in detail but are intended to be part of the specification where appropriate.
In all of the examples illustrated and discussed herein, any specific values should be interpreted to be illustrative only and non-limiting. Thus, other examples of the exemplary embodiments could have different values.
Notice that similar reference numerals and letters refer to similar items in the following figures, and thus once an item is defined in one figure, it is possible that it need not be further discussed for following figures.
Several miniature radar systems are available. Some of them have a radio frequency of several hundreds of GHz. We have found that the wavelength of the radar systems is small enough to provide an accurate displacement measurement. On the other hand, many the radar systems are small enough to be mounted inside the back cavity of a speaker.
In view of the above, we propose to use a small radar sensor for measurement of the displacement and/or velocity of moving part such as a diaphragm of a speaker unit. The sensor is directed towards a moving part such as a diaphragm of the speaker unit, to continuously monitor the motion and displacement of the moving part. The information from the radar sensor can be used by audio processing unit, for the purposes such as speaker protection, improvement of sound reproduction and echo cancellation.
Here, a small radar sensor is placed in a speaker for measurement of the displacement and/or velocity of the diaphragm of a speaker unit.
Figures 1-8 are schematic views of speakers according to various embodiment of this disclosure.
In Figure 1, a cross-section view of a speaker is shown. The speaker has a housing 1 and a speaker unit mounted in the housing 1. The speaker unit may include a basket 2 which contains other components of the speaker unit; a diaphragm 3; a surrounding 4; a dust cap 5; coil former 6. These components could be those usually used in a speaker unit and thus the detailed description thereof is omitted.
The speaker unit includes a moving part, which can move when the unit produces sound. The moving part is, for example, the diaphragm 3 or the dust cap 5.
As shown in Figure 1, a radar sensor 7 is placed by using a chosen stationary position of the speaker.
In Figure 1, the moving part is a diaphragm 5 of the speaker unit and the stationary positionis a position in a space between a basket 2 of the speaker unit and the diaphragm 5.
The radar sensor 7 receives radar wave reflected by or transmitting through the moving part, and sends signals for the radar wave to an internal or external processing device so that the processing device processes the signals for the received radar wave from the radar sensor 7 to calculate displacement of the moving part.
In this disclosure, the radar sensor is incorporated into the speaker unit and can monitor the status of its moving parts in real time. As such, the processing device can obtain the information of the speaker unit and respond timely.
AsshowninFigures 1-8, the radar sensor is in line-of-sight to the moving part and faces the moving part.
Figure 2 shows another arrangement of the radar sensor 8. As show in Figure 2, the moving part is a dust cap 5 of the speaker unit. Here, the stationary positionis a position, which has a line in sight through at least one hole in a top plate 10 (in dash line) and/or a bottom plate 9 (in dash line) of the speaker unit to a rear of the dust cap 5. The radar sensor 8 is placed on the bottom plate 9.
In Figure 3, the moving part is a diaphragm 3 of the speaker unit and the stationary positionis a position behind a basket 2 of the speaker unit pointing towards the diaphragm through at least one hole in the basket. As shown in Figure 3, the radar sensor 11 is placed at the position behind the basket 2. Because the air flow vibration is normally stronger in the basket 2 than that outside the basket 2, placing the radar sensor 11 behind the basket 2 will reduce this influence at least to some degree, compared with the position near the moving parts.
In Figure 4, the moving part is a diaphragm 3 or a dust cap 5 of the speaker unit and the stationary positionis a position in front of the diaphragm or the dust cap in a way that does not interfere with airflow for the speaker unit. As shown in Figure 4, the radar sensor is placed on the center of the cover 20. In Figure 4, the airflow of the sound goes through the side channels of the cover 20, and the radar sensor 12 in the middle of the cover 20 will not interfere with the airflow.
In Figure 5, the stationary positionis a position at a pole piece 13 of a magnet system of the speaker unit. The radar sensor 14 is placed in the pole piece 13.
In Figure 6, the stationary positionis a position external to the speaker unit, such as in the housing 1. The radar sensor 14 is fixed in the housing 1. This will provide a stable base for the radar sensor and reduce the influence of potential movement of the radar sensor 14.
In Figure 7, the radar sensor 16 is placed at the stationary position through a support element 17. The support element 17 has at least two branches, which are not parallel and are radial from the radar sensor 16. The at least two branches of the support element 17 are arranged in a plane which has a projection plane parallel with a vibration direction of the moving part.
In Figure 7, the radar sensor 16 is placed in the pole piece 13ata position at an inner surface of a hollow structure inside the pole piece13 and at a lower end of the pole piece 13 close to a diaphragm of the speaker unit. The moving part is an inner surface of a coil former 6 of the speaker unit. The radar sensor 16 is placed inside the hollow structure through a support element16 and is arranged to facethe inner surface of the coil former 6.
This would provide a stable support for the radar sensor and also provide a freedom of design for arranging the radar sensor.
Alternatively, the radar sensor16 can be placed with a part of the radar sensor 16 pressing against the lower end of the pole piece 13 so as to provide a more stable support.
In Figure 8, the radar sensor 18 is placed at aposition at a basket of the speaker unit, whichis a fixing part 19 of the basket of the speaker unit. The fixing part19 is used for fixing the speaker unit on the housing. Furthermore, the fixing part 19 of the basket is an upper surface or a lower surface of a part of the basket 2 where a bolt hole 19 is located. This would enhance the stableness of the radar sensor and provide more accurate measurement.
As shown in Figure 8, the radar sensor 18 is arranged in a tilt direction to face the moving part.
Here, the radar wave is of radio frequency. For example, the frequency of the radar wave is above 100 GHz.
