Abstract

本发明公开了一种掺铥光纤激光放大器,其包括泵浦源、波分复用器、掺铥光纤、波分解复用器,掺铥光纤为双包层结构,信号源发出的2μm信号光由外部进入激光放大器,与泵浦源发出的泵浦光一并入射至波分复用器,经波分复用器耦合后,再由掺铥光纤传输至波分解复用器,在传输过程中,掺铥光纤吸收泵浦光并放大信号光,波分解复用器输出剩余的泵浦光和放大后的信号光。需要了解的是,本发明所提供的激光放大器中的掺铥光纤为双包层结构,易于得到较高的耦合效率,以长光纤为增益介质,可以抑制光纤激光放大器中的ASE噪声,配合合适的泵浦源(793nm),即可在抑制ASE噪声的前提下,减小增益光纤对短波长区域(<1900nm)信号光的吸收,实现对宽带宽2μm信号光的有效放大。

Description

一种掺铥光纤激光放大器
本发明涉及激光技术领域,更具体地,涉及一种掺铥光纤激光放大器。
现阶段,可由固体激光器直接得到高效率激光输出的激光源主要集中在800nm,1μm,1.5μm以及2μm。其中,2μm波长正好处于水分子的吸收峰,还覆盖了众多的分子指纹谱,在医疗和生物学研究方面有广泛的应用前景,而在光通信领域,宽带宽的2μm激光非常适用于多波长的波分复用(WDM)。鉴于2μm激光在各领域的广泛应用,近年来,2μm光纤激光器以及放大器得到了人们的普遍关注。
现有光纤激光放大器通常可以通过增加光纤的长度来抑制激光放大过程中的ASE(Amplified Spontaneous Emission,放大自发辐射)噪声,但是,由于2μm宽带激光的短波长区域正好处于掺铥光纤的吸收谱,增加光纤长度虽然可以为2μm宽带激光的长波长区域提供额外的增益,但是也同时会加剧增益光纤对其短波长区域的吸收进而造成激光放大器的增益带宽窄化。
技术人员为优化激光放大器的增益带宽而提供了多种方法,但是这些方法都比较复杂,还需用到很多额外部件,因此,提供一种能够使用足够长的增益光纤来实现抑制ASE,且能保持较好增益带宽的激光放大器是亟待解决的。
发明内容
本发明的主要目的在于提供一种掺铥光纤激光放大器,旨在解决如何通过增加光纤的长度抑制激光放大过程中的ASE噪声,且能保持较好增益带宽的技术问题。
为实现上述目的,本发明提供一种掺铥光纤激光放大器,该激光放大器包括泵浦源、波分复用器、掺铥光纤、波分解复用器;所述掺铥光纤为双包层结构,采用包层泵浦技术;所述波分复用器的第一端通过掺铥光纤与所述波分解复用器连接;
信号源发出的2μm信号光由外部进入激光放大器,与所述泵浦源发出的泵浦光一并入射至所述波分复用器;
所述波分复用器耦合所述泵浦光和所述2μm信号光,再将耦合后的所述泵浦光和所述2μm信号光输入所述掺铥光纤,由所述掺铥光纤传输至所述波分解复用器,在传输过程中,所述掺铥光纤吸收所述泵浦光并放大所述2μm信号光;
所述波分解复用器输出剩余的泵浦光和放大后的2μm信号光。
可选的,泵浦源输出泵浦光的波长为793nm、1053nm、1550nm中的一种。
可选的,掺铥光纤的铥离子浓度为8.4×1025/m3
可选的,泵浦源的功率范围为0.5~3.5W。
可选的,信号源的功率范围为-20dBm~10dBm。

有益效果
本发明提供了一种掺铥光纤激光放大器,该激光放大器包括泵浦源、波分复用器、掺铥光纤、波分解复用器,掺铥光纤为双包层结构,采用包层泵浦技术,波分复用器的第一端通过掺铥光纤与波分解复用器的一端连接;信号源发出的2μm信号光由外部进入激光放大器,与泵浦源发出的泵浦光一并入射至波分复用器,波分复用器耦合泵浦光和2μm信号光,再将耦合后的泵浦光和2μm信号光输入掺铥光纤,由掺铥光纤传输至波分解复用器,在传输过程中,掺铥光纤吸收泵浦光并放大2μm信号光,波分解复用器输出剩余的泵浦光和放大后的2μm信号光。需要了解的是,本发明所提供的激光放大器中的掺铥光纤具有双包层结构,采用包层泵浦易于得到较高的耦合效率,相比于纤芯泵浦,包层泵浦的吸收系数较低,一般需要用到较长的增益光纤,而以长光纤为增益介质,恰好可以抑制光纤激光放大器中的ASE噪声。对2μm的宽带掺铥光纤激光放大器,增加光纤长度虽然可以抑制ASE,但是由于光纤长度的增加,对2μm宽带信号光的短波长区域的吸收会更为剧烈,造成增益带宽窄化。配合合适的泵浦源(793nm),本发明所提供的激光放大器即可在抑制ASE噪声的前提下,减小增益光纤对其短波长区域(<1900nm)的吸收,实现对2μm宽带信号光的有效放大。

具体实施方式
为使得本发明的发明目的、特征、优点能够更加的明显和易懂,下面将结合本发明实施例中的附图,对本发明实施例中的技术方案进行清楚、完整地描述,显然,所描述的实施例仅仅是本发明一部分实施例,而非全部实施例。基于本发明中的实施例,本领域技术人员在没有做出创造性劳动前提下所获得的所有其他实施例,都属于本发明保护的范围。
参见图1,图1为纤芯泵浦TDFA(Thulium-Doped Fiber Amplifier ,掺铥光纤放大器)的仿真实验结果,具体的,为基于不同长度(1m-5m)的增益光纤所得到的TDFA增益谱,该实验所采用光纤的光纤纤芯、包层直径分别为5μm和125μm,数值孔径NA为0.26,在该实验中,激光放大器采用的是带内泵浦的泵浦方式(即以1550nm激光为泵浦光),泵浦光功率为0.3W,信号光功率为-20dBm。根据实验结果可知,随着光纤长度的增加,光纤的传输损耗随之增加,对几乎所有的信号光波长,增益都有所降低。其中,短波长(<1900nm)激光增益的下降速度比长波长激光更为显著,这是因为TDF(Thulium-Doped Fiber,掺铥光纤)对短波长激光有更强烈的吸收。而在2μm附近,TDFA的增益则呈现出逐渐增强的趋势,2m-5m光纤在长波长区域的增益超过了1m的光纤。
可见,使用足够长的增益光纤不仅可以抑制ASE噪声,还能为2μm宽带信号光的长波长区域提供额外的增益,但是这样会造成对其短波长区域的强烈的吸收,进而造成增益带宽窄化,因此如何通过增加光纤的长度抑制激光放大过程中的ASE噪声,且能保持较好增益带宽是2μm宽带光纤激光放大器亟待解决的的技术问题。
图2为本实施例提供的掺铥光纤激光放大器的一种结构示意图,该掺铥光纤激光放大器包括:泵浦源、波分复用器、掺铥光纤、波分解复用器,该掺铥光纤激光放大器中,各个器件的连接关系为:波分复用器的第一端通过掺铥光纤与波分解复用器的一端连接。在该掺铥光纤激光放大器中掺铥光纤为双包层结构,采用包层泵浦技术,该泵浦方式可参见图3,2μm信号光和泵浦光的光线路分别为光线路1、光线路2。该掺铥光纤放大器在使用时,信号源发出的2μm信号光由外部进入激光放大器,与泵浦源发出的泵浦光一并入射至波分复用器,波分复用器耦合泵浦光和2μm信号光,再将耦合后的泵浦光和2μm信号光输入掺铥光纤,由掺铥光纤传输至波分解复用器,在传输过程中,掺铥光纤吸收泵浦光并放大2μm信号光,最后由波分解复用器分两路分别输出剩余的泵浦光和放大后的2μm信号光。
在本实施例的另外一个示例中,激光放大器还包括信号源,信号源与泵浦源分别与波分复用器的第二端、第三端连接,参见图4所示,此时信号源发出的2μm信号光与泵浦源发出的泵浦光分别通过波分复用器的的第二端、第三端入射至波分复用器,波分复用器耦合泵浦光和2μm信号光,再将耦合后的泵浦光和2μm信号光输入掺铥光纤,由掺铥光纤传输至波分解复用器,在传输过程中,掺铥光纤吸收泵浦光并放大2μm信号光,最后由波分解复用器分两路分别输出剩余的泵浦光和放大后的2μm信号光。
在本实施例的另外一些示例中,泵浦源输出泵浦光的波长为793nm、1053nm、1550nm中的一种;掺铥光纤的铥离子浓度为8.4×1025/m3;泵浦光的功率范围为0.5~3.5W;信号光的功率范围为-20dBm~10dBm;掺铥光纤的纤芯直径范围为9~12μm,包层直径范围为80~250μm,数值孔径范围为0.12~0.14。
参见图5、图6,图5、图6分别为石英光纤中Tm3+的能级图和石英光纤中Tm3+的吸收和发射截面谱。在图5中,能级1、2、3、4分别代表3H63F43H53H4能级,依据泵浦能级跃迁的不同,掺铥光纤激光放大器的泵浦源可选择793nm,1053nm或者1550nm,分别对应3H63H43H63H5以及3H63F4的泵浦能级跃迁,其中,对于2μm的掺铥光纤激光放大器,2μm信号光的放大来自于3F43H6的能级跃迁,其中心波长一般为1.8μm-2.1μm。
图7展示了分别以793nm和1550nm的泵浦光入射至本发明提供的掺铥光纤激光放大器得到的增益谱。在这两种实验中,均采用了包层泵浦以及相同的运转参数,纤芯、包层直径分别为10μm和130μm,数值孔径NA为0.15,光纤长度固定为5m,泵浦光功率为3.5W,2μm信号光功率为-20dBm。参见图7,相比于采用1550nm泵浦的掺铥光纤激光放大器,采用793nm泵浦的掺铥光纤激光放大器在短波长区域的增益得到了显著增强,进而使得以793nm半导体激光为泵浦光时的增益带宽得到了相应的展宽,此时的增益峰比使用1550nm半导体激光时的增益峰略有下降。可见,在该实施例的一个示例中,配合合适的泵浦源(793nm),本发明所提供的激光放大器不仅可以抑制放大自发辐射(ASE)噪声,还能减小增益光纤对2μm宽带信号光短波长区域(<1900nm)的吸收,实现对宽带宽2μm信号光的有效放大。
本实施例提供了一种掺铥光纤激光放大器,由于现有的光纤激光放大器在放大2μm信号光时,增加增益光纤的长度虽然可以抑制ASE,但是由于光纤长度的增加,对2μm宽带信号光的短波长区域的吸收会更为剧烈,造成增益带宽窄化。而本发明所提供的激光放大器中的掺铥光纤具有双包层结构,采用包层泵浦易于得到较高的耦合效率,相比于纤芯泵浦,包层泵浦的吸收系数较低,一般需要用到较长的增益光纤,而以长光纤为增益介质,恰好可以抑制光纤激光放大器中的ASE噪声。配合合适的泵浦源(793nm),本发明所提供的激光放大器即可在抑制ASE噪声的前提下,减小增益光纤对其短波长区域(<1900nm)的吸收,实现对2μm宽带信号光的有效放大。
需要说明的是,对于前述的各方法实施例,为了简便描述,故将其都表述为一系列的动作组合,但是本领域技术人员应该知悉,本发明并不受所描述的动作顺序的限制,因为依据本发明,某些步骤可以采用其它顺序或者同时进行。其次,本领域技术人员也应该知悉,说明书中所描述的实施例均属于优选实施例,所涉及的动作和模块并不一定都是本发明所必须的。
在上述实施例中,对各个实施例的描述都各有侧重,某个实施例中没有详述的部分,可以参见其它实施例的相关描述,同时,上述本发明实施例序号仅仅为了描述,不代表实施例的优劣,本领域的普通技术人员在本发明的启示下,在不脱离本发明宗旨和权利要求所保护的范围情况下,还可做出很多形式,这些均属于本发明的保护之内。

Claims (7)

  1. 一种掺铥光纤激光放大器,其特征在于,所述激光放大器包括泵浦源、波分复用器、掺铥光纤、波分解复用器;所述掺铥光纤为双包层结构;所述波分复用器的第一端通过掺铥光纤与所述波分解复用器连接;
    信号源发出的2μm信号光由外部进入激光放大器,与所述泵浦源发出的泵浦光一并入射至所述波分复用器;
    所述波分复用器耦合所述泵浦光和所述2μm信号光,再将耦合后的所述泵浦光和所述2μm信号光输入所述掺铥光纤,由所述掺铥光纤传输至所述波分解复用器,在传输过程中,所述掺铥光纤吸收所述泵浦光并放大所述2μm信号光;
    所述波分解复用器输出剩余的泵浦光和放大后的2μm信号光。
  2. 如权利要求1所述的激光放大器,其特征在于,所述泵浦源输出泵浦光的波长为793nm、1053nm、1550nm中的一种。
  3. 如权利要求1所述的激光放大器,其特征在于,所述掺铥光纤的铥离子浓度为8.4×1025/m3
  4. 如权利要求1所述的激光放大器,其特征在于,所述泵浦源的功率范围为0.5~3.5W。
  5. 如权利要求1所述的激光放大器,其特征在于,所述信号源的功率范围为-20dBm~10dBm。
  6. 如权利要求1-5任一项所述的激光放大器,其特征在于,所述激光放大器还包括信号源。所述信号源与所述泵浦源分别与所述波分复用器的第二端、第三端连接,所述信号源发出的2μm信号光与所述泵浦源发出的泵浦光分别通过所述波分复用器的第二端、第三端入射至所述波分复用器。
  7. 如权利要求6所述的激光放大器,其特征在于,所述掺铥光纤的纤芯直径范围为9~12μm,包层直径范围为80~250μm,数值孔径范围为0.12~0.14。
