Definitions

  • This invention relates generally to a cover that provides privacy. More particularly, the invention relates to a cover that provides privacy to a user when nursing a baby.
  • Discretion and privacy is often important when women choose to breast feed their infants, particularly in public.
  • a number of blankets and coverings for a woman’s upper torso are currently available which are useful for screening a mother’s breast from view when in public.
  • standard blankets have traditionally been used for this purpose, a blanket draped over a shoulder does not enable to mother to view the baby while breast feeding.
  • U.S. Patent No 5,479,662 describes a privacy covering for nursing mothers that is fastened to the mother by use of a hook and loop self-adhering detachable closure and a curved flexible flat strip is hemmed into a central portion of the upper edge of a blanket which allows viewing of the child.
  • U.S. Patent No. 4,631 ,754 describes a nursing scarf that is tied so as to produce a neck opening substantially larger than the wearer’s neck opening and the upper margin on the scarf is pleated, to provide an opening through which the mother may view her nursing baby.
  • these pleats have little structural integrity and with an opening that is large enough to ensure the ability to view the child, it would be difficult to arrange the scarf so as to achieve both sufficient screening of the nursing child relative to onlookers and visibility for the mother.
  • U.S. Patent No. 4,716,597 a nursing garment is disclosed which is in the form of a poncho that is worn by placing it over the head of the mother.
  • a rigid hoop is hemmed into the neck opening to allow for the mother to be able to view her baby.
  • the rigid hoop must be large enough for the mother’s head to pass through and there is no means to hold it in a horizontal position, it has an undesirable tendency to hang against the mother’s chest, effectively blocking the intended visibility of the baby.
  • poncho-style garments are large and cumbersome to carry around and creates the additional problem that the mother’s hair may be messed-up as a result of pulling it on and off. For these reasons, their use is undesirable.
  • US-2010/0138996A1 appears to describe a privacy blanket, including a blanket body having a first side surface and a second side surface. At least one engagement portion is provided to removably engage the privacy blanket with a user.
  • the privacy blanket further includes at least one functional portion for providing a containment area, a storage arrangement, and/or a working area.
  • US-7,490,362 appears to disclose a cover for use in breast feeding or bottle feeding an infant is disclosed, wherein the 5 cover is formed from a sheet of fabric or the like shaped so that it may be comfortably draped around a mother's torso during breast feeding in order to allow discrete breast feeding of an infant.
  • the cover is provided with a single strap means to fit over a shoulder of the mother to prevent the cover from falling away from the torso.
  • the cover may also be provided with one or more pockets to hold nursing pads and the like.
  • US-5,652,958 appears to describe a nursing canopy is provided for use by a nursing mother to protect the modesty of the mother when breast feeding an infant.
  • the nursing canopy includes a fabric panel having a dimension sufficient to cover the front of the mother from the neck to the waist.
  • a strap is attached to the panel for extending around the back of the neck to suspend the panel from the neck.
  • a self-supporting neckline flange is located along a perimeter portion of the panel, and defines a self-supporting neckline of the panel. The neckline flange cooperates with the strap to hold the neckline of the panel a spaced-apart distance from a front neck area of the mother, thus defining an open viewing area such that the mother is capable of readily viewing the feeding infant.

Abstract

A cover for nursing a baby with a breast of a user, the cover including a substantially planar body, the body including a fastener configured to detachably secure the cover to the user, and an absorbent portion forming at least part of an inner surface of the body, the absorbent portion for at least partially absorbing spillage. While the cover remains secured to the user, the cover may be configured for use in a nursing configuration wherein the cover substantially conceals the breast to thereby at least partially provide privacy to the user while nursing, and at least one burping configuration wherein the absorbent portion is exposed to the baby's face to thereby at least partially absorb the spillage.

Description

PRIVACY COVER’
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] This invention relates generally to a cover that provides privacy. More particularly, the invention relates to a cover that provides privacy to a user when nursing a baby.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Any reference in this specification to any known matter, prior publication (or information derived from it), is not an acknowledgement, admission or suggestions that the known matter, prior publication, or any information therefrom forms part of the common general knowledge in the field of endeavour to which this specification relates.
[0003] Discretion and privacy is often important when women choose to breast feed their infants, particularly in public. A number of blankets and coverings for a woman’s upper torso are currently available which are useful for screening a mother’s breast from view when in public. Although standard blankets have traditionally been used for this purpose, a blanket draped over a shoulder does not enable to mother to view the baby while breast feeding.
Furthermore, there is no way of securing the blanket to the mother, thus risking the chance of the blanket falling off and exposing the mother’s breasts.
[0004] A number of securable privacy coverings have been developed. Many of these privacy coverings are securable at the mother’s shoulder, such as those described in U.S. Patent Nos. 4,964,172, 4,989,268, and 5,038,41 1. However, this type of cover provides a limited coverage area, posing problems if the child is nursed from both sides due to the need to remove and reposition the shield on the opposite shoulder. Furthermore, their holding mechanism (often hook-like components) could be uncomfortable if too small or fall off or slip if too big.
[0005] Another form of privacy covering fastens in a bib-like manner around her neck (as described in U.S. Patent Nos. 4,631 ,754, 4,716,597, 4,924,528, 4,987,612, 5,034,999, 5,259,068, and 5,479,662). However, this style of cover has further problems. For example, when the bib-like covering is secured, it has a tendency to drape itself over the child and when large enough to provide adequate coverage of the mother’s torso, provides little ventilation to the baby and obstructs the ability of the mother to view the baby whilst feeding.
[0006] Different ways have been envisaged to alleviate these problems. U.S. Patent No 5,479,662 describes a privacy covering for nursing mothers that is fastened to the mother by use of a hook and loop self-adhering detachable closure and a curved flexible flat strip is hemmed into a central portion of the upper edge of a blanket which allows viewing of the child.
However, in practice the cover falls against the mother’s chest and does not stand out on its own. The strip is too heavy and has inadequate structural integrity to allow visibility for the mother without the use of her hands to move the strip and look in.
[0007] Alternatively, U.S. Patent No. 4,631 ,754 describes a nursing scarf that is tied so as to produce a neck opening substantially larger than the wearer’s neck opening and the upper margin on the scarf is pleated, to provide an opening through which the mother may view her nursing baby. However, in practice, these pleats have little structural integrity and with an opening that is large enough to ensure the ability to view the child, it would be difficult to arrange the scarf so as to achieve both sufficient screening of the nursing child relative to onlookers and visibility for the mother.
[0008] U.S. Patent No. 4,716,597, a nursing garment is disclosed which is in the form of a poncho that is worn by placing it over the head of the mother. A rigid hoop is hemmed into the neck opening to allow for the mother to be able to view her baby. However, because the rigid hoop must be large enough for the mother’s head to pass through and there is no means to hold it in a horizontal position, it has an undesirable tendency to hang against the mother’s chest, effectively blocking the intended visibility of the baby. Moreover, poncho-style garments are large and cumbersome to carry around and creates the additional problem that the mother’s hair may be messed-up as a result of pulling it on and off. For these reasons, their use is undesirable. [0009] US-2010/0138996A1 appears to describe a privacy blanket, including a blanket body having a first side surface and a second side surface. At least one engagement portion is provided to removably engage the privacy blanket with a user. The privacy blanket further includes at least one functional portion for providing a containment area, a storage arrangement, and/or a working area.
[0010] US-7,490,362 appears to disclose a cover for use in breast feeding or bottle feeding an infant is disclosed, wherein the 5 cover is formed from a sheet of fabric or the like shaped so that it may be comfortably draped around a mother's torso during breast feeding in order to allow discrete breast feeding of an infant. The cover is provided with a single strap means to fit over a shoulder of the mother to prevent the cover from falling away from the torso.
The cover may also be provided with one or more pockets to hold nursing pads and the like.
[0011] US-5,652,958 appears to describe a nursing canopy is provided for use by a nursing mother to protect the modesty of the mother when breast feeding an infant. The nursing canopy includes a fabric panel having a dimension sufficient to cover the front of the mother from the neck to the waist.
A strap is attached to the panel for extending around the back of the neck to suspend the panel from the neck. A self-supporting neckline flange is located along a perimeter portion of the panel, and defines a self-supporting neckline of the panel. The neckline flange cooperates with the strap to hold the neckline of the panel a spaced-apart distance from a front neck area of the mother, thus defining an open viewing area such that the mother is capable of readily viewing the feeding infant.
[0012] Other nursing cover solutions have tried to incorporate the cover into a clothing garment or fashionable clothing accessory when not in use. Examples of covers that double up as shawls are described in U.S. Patent No. 9,003, 566 and U.S. Patent Publication No. 2017/0164666. However, these blankets are disclosed as being large items - typically covering the length of the user’s torso. During the summer months and particularly in hot climates it is not practical to nurse a child under such large covers, and it is uncomfortable for the user to wear the garment when not nursing the infant.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0047] An example of a cover for use in nursing a baby will now be described with reference to Figures 1A and 1 B.
[0048] In this example, the cover 100 includes a substantially planar body 101. In this regard, the body 101 includes a fastener 1 10 configured to detatchably secure the cover 100 to the user, and an absorbent portion 102 forming at least part of the inside surface 104 of the body 101. The absorbent portion 102 in this example is for at least partially absorbing spillage. Whilst in this example the cover is substantially square, many other shapes would be equally as applicable. For example, in other embodiments, the cover may be substantially rectangular, circular, triangular, pentagonal, or hexagonal.
[0049] While the cover 100 in this example remains secured to the user, the cover may be configured for use in a nursing configuration and one or more burping configurations. In the nursing configuration, the cover 100 substantially conceals the breast of the user to thereby at least partially provide privacy to the user while nursing. In the one or more burping configurations, the absorbent portion 102 is exposed to the baby’s face, to thereby at least partially absorb the spillage.
[0050] Accordingly, the cover 100 of this example is particularly beneficial, in that it provides the user with privacy while nursing as well as the ability to absorb spillage from the baby (such as spit-up, vomit and the like) without the need to remove and reattach the cover. This is particularly beneficial, as it allows the user to reposition the cover from one configuration to another with only one hand - keeping the other hand free to hold the baby.
[0051] A number of further features will now be described.
[0052] In one example, the burping configuration includes outwardly exposing at least part of the absorbent portion 102 of the cover 100. For example, the burping configuration may include supporting at least part of an outer surface of the body 101 on the shoulder of the user, in order to outwardly expose the absorbent portion 102. This, for example, allows the user to hold the baby upright with their face resting on the absorbent portion 102 exposed on the user’s shoulder in order to“burp” the baby after feeding. The absorbent portion 102 can therefore absorb any spillage, spit-up and/or vomit from the baby while it is being burped.
[0053] Additionally or alternatively, the burping configuration may include outwardly exposing at least part of the absorbent portion 120 at the user’s anterior. This, for example, allows the user to hold the infant in front of them, such as on their lap or in their arm, while burping the baby and/or wiping their face with the absorbent portion 120.
[0054] In some examples, while the cover 100 remains attached to the user, the cover 100 may be configured for use in two burping configurations.
For example, the two burping configurations may include the examples described above, namely on the shoulder and at the user’s anterior. This can be particularly advantageous as it allows the user to switch between burping the baby at their shoulder and on their lap and vice versa, without having to remove and reattach the cover 100. In addition, as the cover 100 remains secured to the user during the transition, meaning the cover 100 won’t accidentally fall off the user, onto the floor, or the like while the user is readjusting the cover 100.
[0055] In a further example, transitioning the cover 100 from the nursing configuration to the burping configuration includes flipping at least part of the body 101 over the shoulder while the fastener 1 10 remains secured to the user. This is particularly beneficial, as it allows the user to simply flip the cover 100 with one hand after nursing while the cover 100 remains secured to user, ensuring their other hand remains free to hold and/or support the baby.
[0056] Furthermore, in some instances transitioning the cover 100 from the nursing configuration to the burping configuration includes laterally rotating the cover 300 to outwardly expose the inner surface. In this manner, it is possible to hold the infant in front of the user, for example, on the user’s lap or in the user’s arm, while burping the infant. 10057] In the examples herein, reference to the cover 100 being “secured” to the user includes the fastener being coupled to the user either directly or indirectly. For example, in some instances the fastener is configured to detatchably attach the cover 100 to the clothes of the user.
[0058] Additionally or alternatively, the cover 100 may be configured for use in a storage configuration using the fastener 110. This is particularly advantageous, as it means the cover 100 can be stored without necessarily requiring additional fasteners, bags, covers or the like. This can increase the portability of the cover 100, which is particularly important to nursing parents, who are already required to carry nappies, wipes, and many other infant requirements. The storage configuration may include any suitable
configuration, and in one example includes rolling and/or folding the cover 100 and using the fastener 110 to secure the cover 100 in the rolled and/or folded state. This will be discussed further below.
[0059] In a further examplehe dimensions of the body 101 are sufficient to effectively conceal the breast of the user, whilst also being small enough to allow the user and/or baby to remain cool. In this regard, each dimension of the body 101 is between about 40 cm and about 65 cm. For example, each dimension of the body 101 may be independently selected from about 40 cm, 41 cm, 42 cm, 43 cm, 44 cm, 45 cm, 46 cm, 47 cm, 48 cm, 49 cm, 50 cm, 51 cm, 52 cm, 53 cm, 54 cm. 55 cm, 56 cm, 57 cm, 58 cm, 59 cm, 60 cm, 61 cm, 62 cm, 63 cm, 64 cm, or 65 cm. In some preferred embodiments, each dimension of the body 101 is between about 40 cm and about 50 cm. In even more preferred embodiments, each dimension of the body 101 is about 40 cm to about 45cm. By way of a non-limiting example, in some embodiments the dimensions of the body 101 are about 42 cm by about 42 cm.
[0060] The term“about” is used herein to mean about, roughly, around, or in the region of. When the term“about” is used in conjunction with a numerical range, it modifies that range by extending the boundaries about and below the numerical values set forth. In general, the term“about” is used herein to modify a numerical value above and below the stated value by a variance of 20 percent up or down (higher or lower).
- I Q - [0061] The body 101 may be substantially composed of any suitable material that is lightweight and/or breathable. Suitable materials of this type include, but are not limited to, cotton, wool, linen, silk, ramie, rayon, hemp, polyester, and bamboo. In some preferred embodiments, the body is
substantially composed of cotton. It is also envisaged that the body can be composed of fabrics comprising two or more suitable materials. By way of an illustration, in some embodiments, the body is substantially composed of both polyester and cotton (i.e. , polycotton).
[0062] In some embodiments, at least one of the outer surface 105 and the inner surface 104 of the body is decorated in colours and/or designs that would be appealing to a baby. For example, the outer surface 105 may be decorated in a colour and/or design that is appealing to a baby.
[0063] In this example, the absorbent portion 102 is substantially triangular. However, any alternative shape is equally as applicable for the purposes of the present invention. For example, in some embodiments, the absorbent portion 102 is substantially rectangular.
[0064] In this example, the absorbent portion 102 forms about 50% of an inner surface 104 of the body 101. In this regard, the absorbent portion 102 may form between about 25% and about 75% of an inner surface 104 of the body 101. In more specific embodiments, the absorbent portion 102 may form between about 30% and 70% of an inner surface 104 of the body 101. In even more specific embodiments, the absorbent portion 102 may form between about 35% and 65% of an inner surface 104 of the body 101. In yet even more specific embodiments, the absorbent portion 102 may form between about 40% and 60% of an inner surface 104 of the body 101. In some preferred
embodiments, the absorbent portion 102 may form between about 45% and 55% of an inner surface 102 of the body 101. This configuration is
advantageous, as it results in less absorbent material being required per unit, resulting in cheaper manufacturing. Furthermore, because less material is used, the cover is lighter and more breathable, which results in less heat being created under the cover whilst the baby is feeding. [0065] The absorbent portion 102 may be substantially composed of any absorbent material, including but not limited to, at least one of Egyptian cotton, Brazilian cotton, Supima cotton, bamboo, help, modal, crash linen (composite of linen, cotton and rayon), damask linen, flax linen, and microfiber.
It is also envisaged that the absorbent portion 102 can be composed of fabrics comprising two or more suitable materials, for example, a blend of bamboo and cotton. In some preferred embodiments, the absorbent portion 102 is
substantially composed of a material woven into toweling.
[0066] In some examples (including that illustrated in Figure 1 ), the fastener includes an elongate portion 1 10 for attaching to the user. The elongate portion 1 10 is suitably coupled to the body. In some embodiments, the elongate portion 1 10 is coupled to, or in close proximity to, a corner of the body. In some examples, the elongate portion 1 10 is coupled to the body at the opposite side to the absorbent portion (see, Figure 1A). This configuration has some advantages insofar as it allows for the easy transition of the cover 100 from a nursing configuration to a burping configuration, as described in more detail below.
[0067] In some embodiments, the first end of the elongate portion 110 is coupled to the body 101. Preferably, the first end of the elongate portion 1 10 is permanently coupled to the body 101 , but reversible coupling mechanisms are also suitable. In even more preferable embodiments, a first end of the elongate portion 1 10 is permanently stitched directly to the body.
[0068] The elongate portion 110 may be composed of any suitable material. In some preferred embodiments, the elongate portion 1 10 is composed from the same material as the body 101. In alternative embodiments, the elongate portion 1 10 is composed from a material different to that of the body 101.
[0069] In some examples he elongate portion 110 is of sufficient dimensions to allow for attachment of the cover 100 to a suitable portion of the user. In some embodiments, the elongate portion 1 10 detachably attaches to the clothing of the user, for example the strap of a top or a bra strap of the user. The first end and the second end are typically configured to directly or indirectly fasten to one another. In the example illustrated in Figure 1 , the second end of the elongate portion is configured to detachably attach to the inner surface 104 of the body 101 , whereas the first end of the elongate portion 1 10 is attached to the outer surface 105 of the body 101. In embodiments of this type, the second end of the elongate portion 110 detachably attaches on the opposite surface of the body 101 to, but at a substantially similar position as, the first end.
[0070] Embodiments of this type had the further advantage of being able to be rolled up and stored, by looping the elongate portion around the rolled cover, and detachably attaching the second end of the elongate portion to the first end of the elongate portion. This allows for the cover to be rolled up and conveniently stored, for example, in a nappy or changing bag.
[0071] Any known detachable attachment means is suitable for use with the present invention. In some examples, the detachable attachment means comprises a hook and loop fastener (such as the hook and loop fastener referred to by the trade name“Velcro:) regions 120.1 , 120.2. In embodiments of this type, a Velcro region 120.1 is located at the second end (distal end) of the elongate portion 1 10, and another Velcro region 120.2 is positioned where the second end (distal end) of the elongate portion 110 detachably attaches (for example, the first end (proximal end) of the elongate portion 1 10, or on the opposite side of the body to, but at a substantially similar position as, the first end).
[0072] Alternatively, in some embodiments the detachable attachment is a clip, button, or snap button connection.
[0073] The dimensions of the elongate portion are of sufficient length to wrap around the rolled-up cover in order to secure the cover in a storage conformation when not in use. Preferably, the length of the elongate portion 110 is at least one of: (a) at least 12.5 cm; (b) at least 15 cm; (c) at least 17.5 cm;
(d) at least 20 cm; (e) at least 22.5 cm. By way of an illustrative example, in some embodiments, the elongate portion has a length of about 15.5 cm.
[0074] Preferably, the width of the elongate portion is at least one of: (a) at least 1.5 cm; (b) at least 2.0 cm; (c) at least 2.5 cm; and (d) at least 3.0 cm. By way of an illustrative example, in some embodiments the elongate portion has a width of about 2.5 cm.
[0075] The covers of the present invention can be used in at least two configurations, including (1 ) a nursing a configuration wherein the cover substantially conceals the breast; and (2) a burping configuration wherein the absorbent portion is provided to at least partially absorb spillage from the baby. Such embodiments are particularly advantageous as they allow for convenient and fast transition from use during feeding and use during burping. It removes the need for the user to find and use separate cloths and covers for each activity.
[0076] When the cover is being used in a nursing configuration, the fastener is typically connected to a strap on the top or bra strap of the user, and the body of the cover is positioned over the baby’s head suitably to substantially conceal the breast of the user. Preferably, the inner surface of the cover is facing inwards towards the body of the user, and the outer surface is exposed to the public.
[0077] When the cover is being used in a burping configuration, the fastener is typically connected to a strap on the top or a bra strap of the user, and the body of the cover is positioned over the shoulder of the user, or held in any other location as to be in close proximity to the mouth of the baby.
Preferably, when used in the burping configuration the inner surface of the cover body is facing toward the baby such that any spillage expelled from the baby’s mouth is absorbed by the absorbent portion of the cover.
[0078] The transition between a nursing configuration and a burping configuration is performed simply by flipping the cover onto or over the shoulder of the user, to expose the absorbent portion of the cover. The baby’s mouth can be placed over or adjacent to the absorbent portion to at least partially receive spillage from the baby. Advantageously, when the fastener is coupled to the opposing side of the body to the absorbent portion, the transition from a nursing configuration to a burping configuration can be performed without detaching the cover from the user. This allows the user to concentrate of nursing and burping the baby without having to detach and reattach the cover. [0079] In some embodiments, and as illustrated in Figure 2, the cover can be rolled into a storage configuration. In such embodiments, the body 201 is rolled or folded towards the fastener 210, and the fastener 210 can reach around the outer surface 205 of the body 201 , to thereby secure the cover in a compact configuration suitable for easily storing the cover in a drawer or nappy/changing bag.
[0080] A further example of a cover for nursing a baby will now be described with reference to Figures 3A to 3E. Features similar to those of the examples described above have been assigned correspondingly similar reference numerals.
[0081] The cover 300 of this example includes a planar body 301 including a fastener 310 and an absorbent portion 302 on an inner surface 304. The fastener 310 is configured to detachably secure the cover 300 to the user.
In addition, the absorbent portion 302 is for absorbing spillage from the baby. The cover 300 is configured for use in a nursing configuration, two burping configurations and a storage configuration, and this will be discussed further below.
[0082] Additionally, the fastener 310 of this example, includes an elongate portion with a first end 320.2 attached to the body 301 , and a second end 320.1 To secure the cover 300 to the user, the elongate portion in this example is wrapped around the user’s clothes (e.g. bra strap, singlet strap or the like). The first end 320.2 and second end 320.1 are brought together and include a hook and loop fastener arrangement for attaching together, thereby securing the fastener 310 in place. This will be described in more detail below.
[0083] Figure 3A shows the inner surface of the body 301 of the cover 300 of this example in plan view. The cover 300 in this example may also be configured for use in the storage configuration using the fastener 310, and this will now be described.
[0084] At Figure 3A, the planar body 301 is folded along 330, such that the opposing sides of the body 301 are folded together thereby reducing the footprint of the cover 300, as shown in Figure 3B. It may be beneficial, in this regard, to fold the inner surface 304 of the cover together, in order to ensure any spillage which has been absorbed by the absorbent portion 302 is contained while in the storage configuration. While in this example, the inner surface 304 of the cover 300 is folded together, in other examples, the outer surface 302 may be folded together in order to reduce the cover’s footprint.
[0085] In Figure 3C, the cover 300 is rolled along 331 from an end distal to the fastener 310, towards the fastener. Once rolled (see Figure 3D), the elongate portion of the fastener 310 is wrapped around the rolled body 301 at 332, such that first and second ends 320.2, 320.1 are coupled together and the cover 300 is thereby secured in the storage configuration.
[0086] The ability to store the cover 300 in such a compact manner is particularly beneficial. A nursing parent is typically required to carry numerous items for their infant, including nappies, wipes, creams, and/or the like.
Therefore, the compactness of the stored cover 300 increases its portability, as it is possible to pack it into a nursing bag, or pocket, without occupying too much space.
[0087] Steps 3E to 3A may be followed in reverse in order to unpack the cover 300, for example, for use in the burping and/or nursing configurations.
[0088] An example of the cover of Figures 3A to 3E in use in the burping and nursing configurations will now be described with reference to Figures 4A to 4E. Features similar to those of the examples described above have been assigned correspondingly similar reference numerals.
[0089] At Figure 4A, the cover 300 is secured to the user for use in the burping configuration. In this regard, the fastener 310 is wrapped around the bra strap of the user such that the ends 310.2, 320.1 are secured together via a hook and loop arrangement. This may be done in any suitable manner, however in this particular example the second end 320.1 of the fastener 310 is threaded under the bra strap at 431 , looped the strap around at 433, pulled taut at 432, then secured to the first end 320.1.
[0090] Once secured to the user, the cover 300 can be used in the nursing configuration, as shown at Figure 4B and 4C, where the cover 300 substantially conceals the breast in order to provide privacy. For example, at Figure 4B, the user may be adjusting their nursing clothes in order to expose the breast for feeding, thus the cover 300 provides privacy during this process. At Figure 4C, the infant is being nursed by the user, and the cover 300 is draped over the infant’s head and user’s breast, in order to provide privacy while feeding.
[0091] The cover 300 may be transitioned from the nursing
configuration to two burping configurations in any suitable manner, while the cover 300 remains attached to the user. For example, at Figure 4D, the cover 300 is transitioned to a first burping configuration by laterally rotating the body at 434 in order to expose the absorbent portion 302 to the infant’s face, while the infant is held such that it’s face is in front of the user.
[0092] In a further example, the cover 300 is transitioned to a second burping configuration by flipping the cover 300 over the shoulder of the user, in order to support the absorbent portion 302 on the shoulder (Figure 4E). In this regard, the user is able to hold the infant upright with their head resting on the absorbent portion 302 on the shoulder, in order to burp the baby.
[0093] Accordingly, the cover of the examples within is particularly beneficial as it is usable to provide privacy while both adjusting nursing clothing, and actively nursing an infant. In addition, it offers the flexibility of two burping configurations, including either holding the infant at the user’s front or over the user’s shoulder. Moreover, it can be stored in a very compact manner, without the need for additional fasteners, cases, or the like.
