Interaction Personalization System and Method

[001] This application claims the benefit of the following U.S. Provisional Application No.: 62/567,973, filed on 04 October 2017, their entire contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.

Technical Field

[002] This disclosure relates to interaction systems and, more particularly, to interaction systems that personalize the user experience.

Background

[003] Personalization has become a necessary component of successful consumer- facing digital marketing efforts, wherein existing solutions may personalize using segmentation and content. Segmentation may often be based on broad variables such as demographics and past purchase history.

[004] Using various tools, marketers may create broad segments by coding manual rules. Content personalization may be typically accomplished by sending e.g., different emails, different blog posts, or other kinds of differing content to different segments. Content personalization may also be done by ranking pieces of content differently depending upon segment, wherein different segments may see different pieces of content.

Summary of Disclosure Auto Selection System

[005] In one implementation, a computer-implemented method is executed on a computing device and includes: rendering an initial item; receiving a selection command concerning the initial item from a user; selecting a preferred response item, chosen from a plurality of response items defined for the initial item, wherein the preferred response item is associated with a path that is based, at least in part, upon one or more user criteria associated with the user; and rendering the preferred response item.

[006] One or more of the following features may be included. A query from the user may be received. The query may be executed. A result set may be rendered that includes the initial item. The initial item may include one or more of: a uniform resource locator; and an object. The one or more user criteria associated with the user may include one or more of: a user-defined preference; and a previous user experience. Rendering the preferred response item may include one or more of: navigating to a defined location; and rendering an object. The plurality of response items may include one or more of: one or more response items that are proactively-defined for the initial item prior to receiving the selection command; and one or more response items that are reactively-defined for the initial item after receiving the selection command. Receiving a selection command may include one or more of: receiving a device-based selection command; receiving a voice- based selection command; and receiving an action-based selection command.

[007] In another implementation, a computer program product resides on a computer readable medium and has a plurality of instructions stored on it. When executed by a processor, the instructions cause the processor to perform operations including rendering an initial item; receiving a selection command concerning the initial item from a user; selecting a preferred response item, chosen from a plurality of response items defined for the initial item, wherein the preferred response item is associated with a path that is based, at least in part, upon one or more user criteria associated with the user; and rendering the preferred response item.

Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiments System Overview

[0018] Referring to FIG. 1, there is shown input & selection process 10. Input & selection process 10 may be implemented as a server-side process, a client-side process, or a hybrid server-side / client-side process. For example, input & selection process 10 may be implemented as a purely server-side process via input & selection process 10s. Alternatively, input & selection process 10 may be implemented as a purely client-side process via one or more of input & selection process lOcl, input & selection process 10c2, input & selection process 10c3, and input & selection process 10c4. Alternatively still, input & selection process 10 may be implemented as a hybrid server-side / client- side process via input & selection process 10s in combination with one or more of input & selection process lOcl, input & selection process 10c2, input & selection process 10c3, and input & selection process 10c4. Accordingly, input & selection process 10 as used in this disclosure may include any combination of input & selection process 10s, input & selection process lOcl, input & selection process 10c2, input & selection process, and input & selection process 10c4.

[0019] Input & selection process 10s may be a server application and may reside on and may be executed by computing device 12, which may be connected to network 14 (e.g., the Internet or a local area network). As is known in the art, Bluetooth is a telecommunications industry specification that allows e.g., mobile phones, computers, and personal digital assistants to be interconnected using a short-range wireless connection.

Input & Selection Process:

[0027] Assume for illustrative purposes that input & selection process 10 may be configured to enhance the level of personalization experienced by a user when browsing and searching websites / content. In this illustrative example, assume that user 38 is searching the internet so that they may rent a vacation home. Further assume that user 38 visits a rental website (e.g., www.ABCVacationRentals.com) that enables users to rent vacation homes. Additionally, assume that user 38 enters the appropriate search criteria (e.g., Timeframe: July 3rd - July 10th; Location: Key West, Florida; and Price Range: $4,000 - $5,000) required by www.ABCVacationRentals.com to effectuate such a search.

[0028] Accordingly and referring also to FIGS. 2-3, input & selection process 10 may receive 100 query 56 (e.g., Timeframe: July 3rd - July 10th; Location: Key West, Florida; and Price Range: $4,000 - $5,000) from user 38. wherein input & selection process 10 may execute 102 query 56 and may render 104 result set 150 that includes a plurality of items. When executing 102 query 56, input & selection process 10 may compare available vacation properties 58 defined within property database 60 to the terms defined within query 56.

Accordingly, one or more of items 152, 154, 156, 158 may be a uniform resource locator that points to a webpage (not shown) that provides information concerning (in this example) one or more of the vacation homes associated with items 152, 154, 156, 158.

As is known in the art, probabilistic modeling may be used within modern artificial intelligence systems (e.g., input & selection process 10), in that these probabilistic models may provide artificial intelligence systems with the tools required to autonomously analyze data.

[0043] Examples of the tasks for which probabilistic modeling may be utilized may include but are not limited to:

• predicting media (music, movies, books) that a user may like or enjoy based upon media that the user has liked or enjoyed in the past;

• transcribing words spoken by a user into editable text;

• grouping genes into gene clusters;

• identifying recurring patterns within vast data sets;

• filtering email that is believed to be spam from a user's inbox;

• generating clean (i.e., non-noisy) data from a noisy data set; and

• diagnosing various medical conditions and diseases.

[0044] For each of the above-described applications of probabilistic modeling, an initial probabilistic model may be defined, wherein this initial probabilistic model may be iteratively modified and revised based upon feedback provided by users, thus allowing the probabilistic models and the artificial intelligence systems (e.g., input & selection process 10) to "learn" so that future probabilistic models may be more precise and may define more accurate data sets. Accordingly, input & selection process 10 may use various machine learning processes and algorithms to process 108 user input 62.

However and as shown in FIG. 4, one such example of the rendering 110 of result 200 may include items 152, 156 be overlaid with an answer to the question (e.g., "Do these houses have pools?") asked by user 38. Accordingly and as shown in FIG. 4, item 152 may be rendered 110 with an overlay that says "YES' (as this vacation home does indeed include a pool); while item 156 may be rendered 110 with an overlay that says "NO' (as this vacation home does not include a pool). Alternatively and concerning other ways in which result 200 may be rendered 110 and/or the manner in which subgroup of items 160 may be refined 112 (to form subgroup of items 160'), item 156 (i.e., the vacation home without a pool) may be removed or greyed out, thus resulting in only item 152 being included within subgroup of items 160' after subgroup of items 160 is refined 112 by input and selection process 10).

For example, since user 36 is interested in vacation homes that include a garage, upon receiving 116 selection command 70, input & selection process 10 may select 118 preferred response item 164 that may navigate 122 to a defined location 252 within a webpage / content for the vacation home associated with initial item 152 (and may render 124 related objects), wherein defined location 252 may concern the garage of the vacation home associated with initial item 152 (as input & selection process 10 utilized user criteria 72 of user 36 when selecting preferred response item 12).

Claims

What Is Claimed Is: Auto Selection System
1. A computer-implemented method, executed on a computing device, comprising:
rendering an initial item;
receiving a selection command concerning the initial item from a user; selecting a preferred response item, chosen from a plurality of response items defined for the initial item, wherein the preferred response item is associated with a path that is based, at least in part, upon one or more user criteria associated with the user; and
rendering the preferred response item.
2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 further comprising:
receiving a query from the user;
executing the query, and
rendering a result set that includes the initial item.
3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein the initial item includes one or more of:
a uniform resource locator; and
an object.
4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein the one or more user criteria associated with the user includes one or more of:
a user-defined preference; and
a previous user experience.
5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein rendering the preferred response item includes one or more of:
navigating to a defined location; and
rendering an object.
6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein the plurality of response items includes one or more of:
one or more response items that are proactively-defined for the initial item prior to receiving the selection command; and
one or more response items that are reactively-defined for the initial item after receiving the selection command.
7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein receiving a selection command includes one or more of:
receiving a device-based selection command;
receiving a voice-based selection command; and
receiving an action-based selection command.
8. A computer program product residing on a computer readable medium having a plurality of instructions stored thereon which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
rendering an initial item;
receiving a selection command concerning the initial item from a user; selecting a preferred response item, chosen from a plurality of response items defined for the initial item, wherein the preferred response item is associated with a path that is based, at least in part, upon one or more user criteria associated with the user; and
rendering the preferred response item.
9. The computer program product of claim 8 further comprising:
receiving a query from the user;
executing the query, and
rendering a result set that includes the initial item.
10. The computer program product of claim 8 wherein the initial item includes one or more of:
a uniform resource locator; and
an object.
11. The computer program product of claim 8 wherein the one or more user criteria associated with the user includes one or more of:
a user-defined preference; and
a previous user experience.
12. The computer program product of claim 8 wherein rendering the preferred response item includes one or more of:
navigating to a defined location; and
rendering an object.
13. The computer program product of claim 8 wherein the plurality of response items includes one or more of:
one or more response items that are proactively-defined for the initial item prior to receiving the selection command; and
one or more response items that are reactively-defined for the initial item after receiving the selection command.
14. The computer program product of claim 8 wherein receiving a selection command includes one or more of:
receiving a device-based selection command;
receiving a voice-based selection command; and
receiving an action-based selection command.
15. A computing system including a processor and memory configured to perform operations comprising:
rendering an initial item;
receiving a selection command concerning the initial item from a user; selecting a preferred response item, chosen from a plurality of response items defined for the initial item, wherein the preferred response item is associated with a path that is based, at least in part, upon one or more user criteria associated with the user; and
rendering the preferred response item.
The computing system of claim 15 further comprising:
receiving a query from the user;
executing the query, and
rendering a result set that includes the initial item.
17. The computing system of claim 15 wherein the initial item includes one or more of:
a uniform resource locator; and
an object.
18. The computing system of claim 15 wherein the one or more user criteria associated with the user includes one or more of:
a user-defined preference; and
a previous user experience.
The computing system of claim 15 wherein rendering the preferred response item navigating to a defined location; and
rendering an object.
20. The computing system of claim 15 wherein the plurality of response items includes one or more of:
one or more response items that are proactively-defined for the initial item prior to receiving the selection command; and
one or more response items that are reactively-defined for the initial item after receiving the selection command.
21. The computing system of claim 15 wherein receiving a selection command includes one or more of:
receiving a device-based selection command;
receiving a voice-based selection command; and
receiving an action-based selection command.
