Description

液剤塗布装置
本発明は、液剤塗布装置に関する。
圧電効果によって電気エネルギから機械エネルギへのエネルギ変換を行う圧電素子は、応答性に優れているため、半導体、印刷、化学薬品などの広い分野において、液剤を対象物の表面に吐出する液剤塗布装置に利用されている。 
液剤塗布装置は、一般的に、吐出口を有する液剤貯留部と、液剤貯留部内の容積を変化させるダイヤフラムと、ダイヤフラムを加圧振動させる圧電素子とを備える(例えば、特許文献1参照)。

しかしながら、伸張した圧電素子が収縮する際、圧電素子の収縮速度がダイヤフラムの復帰速度よりも速いため、圧電素子が損傷するおそれがある。 
具体的には、圧電素子がダイヤフラムに接続されている場合(すなわち、圧電素子がダイヤフラムに固定されている場合)、ダイヤフラムから圧電素子に引っ張り力がかかって、圧電素子がダイヤフラムから剥離したり、或いは、圧電素子の内部が損傷したりするおそれがある。 
また、圧電素子がダイヤフラムに接触している場合(すなわち、圧電素子がダイヤフラムに固定されていない場合)、圧電素子の自重によって圧電素子の内部に引っ張り力が生じて、圧電素子の内部に損傷が生じるおそれがある。 
本発明は、上述の状況を鑑みてなされたものであり、圧電素子の損傷を抑制可能な液剤塗布装置の提供を目的とする。
本発明の一つの態様に係る液剤塗布装置は、液剤貯留部と、ダイヤフラムと、駆動部と、予圧機構とを備える。液剤貯留部は、液剤吐出口を有する。ダイヤフラムは、液剤貯留部の内部容積を変化させる。駆動部は、ダイヤフラムの上に位置する。予圧機構は、駆動部の上に位置する。
本発明の一つの態様によれば、圧電素子の損傷を抑制可能な液剤塗布装置を提供することができる。

以下、図面を参照しながら、本発明の一実施形態に係る液剤塗布装置について説明する。ただし、本発明の範囲は、以下の実施の形態に限定されず、本発明の技術的思想の範囲内で任意に変更可能である。また、以下の図面においては、各構成をわかりやすくするために、各構造における縮尺および数等を、実際の構造における縮尺および数等と異ならせる場合がある。 
本明細書において、「接続」とは、2つの部材が互いに固定又は連結されている状態を意味する。従って、2つの部材が接続されている場合、両者は常に一緒に動作する。また、「接触」とは、2つの部材が直接的に接する状態にはあるものの、2つの部材は互いに固定又は連結されていない状態を意味する。2つの部材が接触している場合、両者が一緒に動作するときと、両者が一緒に動作しないときがある。 
図1は、第1実施形態に係る液剤塗布装置10の構成を示す模式図である。 
液剤塗布装置10は、液剤貯留部11、ダイヤフラム12、圧電素子13、予圧バネ14(予圧機構の一例)、固定部材15及び制御部16を備える。液剤貯留部11、ダイヤフラム12、圧電素子13、及び固定部材15は、ヘッド17を構成している。 
(1)液剤貯留部11 液剤貯留部11は、ハウジング11a及びノズル11bを有する。 
ハウジング11aは、中空状に形成される。本実施形態において、ハウジング11aは筒状に形成されているが、これに限られない。ハウジング11aは、例えば合金材料、セラミックス材料、及び合成樹脂材料などによって構成することができる。 
ハウジング11aの内部には、圧力室11cが形成される。圧力室11cには、液剤が貯留される。液剤としては、半田、熱硬化性樹脂、インク、機能性薄膜(配向膜、レジスト、カラーフィルタ、有機エレクトロルミネッセンスなど)を形成するための塗布液などが挙げられるが、これに限られない。 
ハウジング11aの側壁には、液剤供給口11dが形成される。液剤供給装置30から液剤供給管31を介して供給される液剤は、液剤供給口11dを通過して圧力室11c内に補充される。 
ノズル11bは、板状に形成される。ノズル11bは、ハウジング11aの一端開口を塞ぐように配置される。ノズル11bには、吐出口11eが形成される。圧力室11c内の液剤は、吐出口11eから液滴となって外部に吐出される。 
(2)ダイヤフラム12 ダイヤフラム12は、ハウジング11aの他端開口を塞ぐように配置される。ダイヤフラム12は、後述する圧電素子13から加圧振動が加えられると弾性的に振動する。これにより、ダイヤフラム12は、液剤貯留部11内に形成された圧力室11cの容積を変化させる。 
ダイヤフラム12が圧力室11cの内部に向かって凸状に湾曲すると、圧力室11cの容積は小さくなる。これにより、吐出口11eから液剤が吐出される。その後、ダイヤフラム12が自身の弾性によって定常状態に復帰すると、圧力室11cの容積も元に戻る。この際、液剤供給口11dから圧力室11cに液剤が補充される。 
ダイヤフラム12の構成材料は特に制限されないが、例えば合金材料、セラミックス材料、及び合成樹脂材料などを用いることができる。 
(3)圧電素子13 圧電素子13は、ダイヤフラム12を振動駆動させる「駆動部」の一例である。圧電素子13は、ダイヤフラム12の上に位置する。圧電素子13は、ダイヤフラム12と予圧バネ14との間に配置される。圧電素子13は、ダイヤフラム12と予圧バネ14とによって挟まれている。 
圧電素子13の第1端部13pは、ダイヤフラム12に当接する。圧電素子13の第1端部13pは、ダイヤフラム12に接触しているだけであってもよいし、ダイヤフラム12に接続されていてもよい。すなわち、圧電素子13の第1端部13pは、ダイヤフラム12に固定されていてもよいし、固定されていなくてもよい。圧電素子13の第1端部13pをダイヤフラム12に接続する場合、例えばエポキシ樹脂などの接着剤を用いることができる。圧電素子13の第1端部13pは、圧電素子13の伸縮方向におけるダイヤフラム12側の端部である。 
圧電素子13の第2端部13qは、予圧バネ14に接続される。すなわち、圧電素子13の第2端部13qは、予圧バネ14に固定されている。予圧バネ14は、圧電素子13の第2端部13qに直接的に締結されていてもよいし、例えばエポキシ樹脂などの接着剤を介して接続されていてもよい。 
圧電素子13は、複数の圧電体13a、複数の内部電極13b、及び一対の側面電極13c,13cを有する。各圧電体13aと各内部電極13bは、交互に積層されている。各圧電体13aは、例えばジルコン酸チタン酸鉛(PZT)などの圧電セラミックスによって構成される。各内部電極13bは、一対の側面電極13c,13cのうちいずれか一方と電気的に接続される。すなわち、一方の側面電極13cと電気的に接続された内部電極13bは、他方の側面電極13cから電気的に絶縁される。このような構造は、一般に部分電極構造と称される。ただし、圧電素子13は、1つの圧電体と一対の電極とを少なくとも備えていればよく、圧電素子13としては周知の種々の圧電素子を用いることができる。 
圧電素子13は、後述する制御部16から印加される駆動電圧信号(すなわち、駆動パルス)に応じて振動する。具体的には、制御部16から一対の側面電極13c,13cに駆動電圧信号が印加されると、各圧電体13aが伸縮する。この各圧電体13aの伸縮に伴って、ダイヤフラム12に加圧振動が加えられる。 
(4)予圧バネ14 予圧バネ14は、圧電素子13の上に位置する。予圧バネ14は、圧電素子13と固定部材15との間に挟まれて配置される。 
予圧バネ14のうち圧電素子13と反対側の第1端部14pは、固定部材15に接続される。すなわち、予圧バネ14の第1端部14pは、固定部材15に固定されている。従って、予圧バネ14の第1端部14pは、固定端である。予圧バネ14の第1端部14pは、固定部材15に直接的に締結されていてもよいし、例えばエポキシ樹脂などの接着剤を介して固定部材15に接続されていてもよい。予圧バネ14の第1端部14pは、圧電素子13の伸縮方向における圧電素子13と反対側の端部である。 
予圧バネ14のうち圧電素子13側の第2端部14qは、圧電素子13の第1端部13pに接続される。すなわち、予圧バネ14の第2端部14qは、圧電素子13の第1端部13pに固定されている。従って、本実施形態において、圧電素子13の第1端部13pは、固定端ではない。予圧バネ14の第2端部14qは、圧電素子13に直接的に締結されていてもよいし、例えばエポキシ樹脂などの接着剤を介して圧電素子13に接続されていてもよい。予圧バネ14の第2端部14qは、圧電素子13の伸縮方向における圧電素子13側の端部である。 
図1では、予圧バネ14としてコイルバネを用いた場合が図示されているが、これに限られない。予圧バネ14としては、皿バネ、板バネ、渦巻バネなど周知のバネを用いることができる。 
また、固定部材15を弾性部材によって構成し、これによって予圧バネ14の機能を発揮させてもよい。この場合、予圧バネ14という構成要素を必要とせず、予圧機構としての機能的役割を固定部材15が担うことになり、部品数削減、省サイズ化が実現できる。 
この構成例を図2に示す。図2では、固定部材18に弾性を備えた構造にしており、圧電素子13のうちダイヤフラム12と反対側の第2端部13qを固定部材18に固定することによって圧電素子13に対して予圧を与えて保持している。図2の固定部材18は圧電素子13の伸縮方向の厚みを一部薄くすることで所望のバネ定数になるようにしている。もちろんこれに拘らず、適度な弾性を備えた材質を使用するなどといったことも有効である。また、図2において、固定部材18は、液剤貯留部11の上に位置する支持部19によって支持されているが、固定部材18の支持方法はこれに限られない。 
予圧バネ14のバネ定数は、ダイヤフラム12のバネ定数よりも大きいことが好ましい。これによって、圧電素子13の伸縮力が予圧バネ14側(すなわち、図1における上方向)に伝わることを抑制して、圧電素子13の伸縮力をダイヤフラム12に効率的に伝達させることができる。具体的には、予圧バネ14とダイヤフラム12に挟まれた圧電素子13は、2つのバネに圧縮されてバランスが取れた位置に収まるとともに、ダイヤフラム12は圧力室11c側に若干撓んだ状態になり、予圧バネ14は初期状態と比べて圧縮された状態になる。この状態で圧電素子13が伸長すると、予圧バネ14のバネ定数がダイヤフラム12のバネ定数よりも大きいため、ダイヤフラム12側の変位が大きくなり圧力室11cに対する加圧力を大きく出来、駆動効率を高くすることが出来る。 
予圧バネ14は、圧電素子13をダイヤフラム12側に押しつける。予圧バネ14は、圧電素子13が伸張状態か収縮状態かに関わらず、圧電素子13をダイヤフラム12側に押しつける。ただし、圧電素子13の第2端部13qがダイヤフラ
ム12に接続されている場合であって、圧電素子13が収縮状態であるときには、予圧バネ14から圧電素子13への押しつけ力は“0”であってもよい。 
ここで、図3に示すように、圧電素子13の第1端部13pは、ダイヤフラム12に接触している場合、伸張した圧電素子13が収縮する際、圧電素子13の内部には伸長よる引っ張り力が生じるだけでなく、圧電素子13自体がリンギングするおそれもある。しかしながら、本実施形態では、上述のとおり、予圧バネ14の押しつけ力によって、圧電素子13をダイヤフラム12に押しつけておくことができる。そのため、圧電素子13に生じる引っ張り力を抑制するとともに、圧電素子13のリンギングを抑制できる。 
また、圧電素子13の第1端部13pは、ダイヤフラム12に接触している場合、収縮した圧電素子13が伸張する際、圧電素子13がダイヤフラム12から離れていると、圧電素子13自身の伸張力によって圧電素子13の内部が損傷するおそれがある。具体的には、積層部分の剥がれや、電極および配線の破断等が生じるおそれがある。しかしながら、本実施形態では、上述のとおり、予圧バネ14の押しつけ力によって、圧電素子13をダイヤフラム12に押しつけておくことができる。そのため、圧電素子13の内部が損傷することを抑制できる。 
一方、図4に示すように、圧電素子13の第2端部13qがダイヤフラム12に接続されている場合、伸張した圧電素子13が収縮する際、圧電素子13の収縮速度がダイヤフラム12の復帰速度よりも速いため、ダイヤフラム12から圧電素子13に引っ張り力がかかる。その結果、圧電素子13がダイヤフラム12から剥離したり、或いは、圧電素子13の内部が損傷したりするおそれがある。しかしながら、本実施形態では、上述のとおり、予圧バネ14の押しつけ力によって、圧電素子13をダイヤフラム12に常に押しつけておくことができる。そのため、圧電素子13が剥離したり、圧電素子13の内部が損傷したりすることを抑制できる。 
(5)固定部材15 固定部材15は、予圧バネ14の第1端部14pを固定する部材である。固定部材15は、液剤貯留部11の上に位置する。ただし、固定部材15は、予圧バネ14の第1端部14pを固定できればよく、液剤貯留部11から離れていてもよい。また、固定部材15の形状は、図1の形状に限られず、周辺部材との配置関係を考慮して適宜変更可能である。 
また、上述したとおり、固定部材15を弾性部材によって構成し、これによって予圧バネ14の機能を発揮させてもよい(図2の固定部材18参照)。 
(6)制御部16 制御部16は、CPU(Central Processing Unit)およびDSP(Digital Signal Processor)等のマイクロプロセッサー、又は、ASIC(Application Specific Integrated Circuit)等の演算装置と、パワーMOSFET(Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor)等で構成された電力増幅器とによって実現される。 
制御部16は、圧電素子13を駆動させるための駆動電圧信号を生成する。制御部16は、生成した駆動電圧信号を電力増幅器に送って電力を増幅し、これを圧電素子13の一対の側面電極13c,13cそれぞれに印加することによって、圧電素子13を振動させる。 
(他の実施形態) 本発明は上記の実施形態によって記載したが、この開示の一部をなす論述及び図面はこの発明を限定すると理解すべきではない。この開示から当業者には様々な代替実施形態、実施例及び運用技術が明らかとなる。 
上記実施形態では、ダイヤフラム12を振動駆動させる「駆動部」の一例として、圧電素子13を例に挙げて説明したが、「駆動部」は圧電素子13以外の部材を含んでいてもよい。 
例えば、「駆動部」は、圧電素子13の振動振幅を増大させるためのホーンを含んでいてもよい。ホーンには、例えば円筒状の金属棒を用いることができる。ホーンの固有振動周波数を圧電素子13の駆動限界周波数以下とし、かつ、固有振動周波数と駆動電圧信号の周波数とを倍数関係にすることによって、圧電素子13の振動振幅を増大させることができる。固有振動周波数とは、ホーンが自由振動を行う際の振動数である。駆動限界周波数とは、圧電素子13が安定した振幅で駆動できる限界の周波数の最大値である。 
また、「駆動部」は、ダイヤフラム12を高周波で振動させるための加振用圧電素子を含んでいてもよい。加振用圧電素子は、圧電素子13に印加される駆動電圧信号よりも周波数の高い高周波信号に応じて振動する。液剤が吐出口11eから吐出されない程度の微小な加圧振動をダイヤフラム12に加えることによって、液剤貯留部11に貯留された液剤の流動性を向上させるとともに、吐出口11eから吐出された液剤の液切れ性を向上させることができる。 
上記実施形態において、圧電素子13の第1端部13pは、ダイヤフラム12と直接的に接触又は接続することとしたが、第1端部13pとダイヤフラム12との間には、圧電素子13と面接触し、かつ、ダイヤフラム12と点接触する中間部材が挟まれていてもよい。中間部材は、圧電素子13の第1端部13pに固定されており、ダイヤフラム12とは接離自在である。このような中間部材を挟むことによって、圧電素子13の第1端部13pの一部分に加圧力が集中することを抑制できるため、圧電素子13の破損をより抑制できる。

Claims (7)

  1. 液剤吐出口を有する液剤貯留部と、 前記液剤貯留部の内部容積を変化させるダイヤフラムと、 前記ダイヤフラムの上に位置する駆動部と、 前記駆動部の上に位置する予圧機構と、を備える、液剤塗布装置。
  2. 前記予圧機構のうち前記駆動部と反対側の端部は、固定端である、請求項1に記載の液剤塗布装置。
  3. 前記駆動部は、前記ダイヤフラムに接触する、請求項1又は2に記載の液剤塗布装置。
  4. 前記駆動部は、前記ダイヤフラムと接続する、請求項1乃至3のいずれかに記載の液剤塗布装置。
  5. 前記予圧機構のバネ定数は、前記ダイヤフラムのバネ定数より大きい、請求項1乃至4のいずれかに記載の液剤塗布装置。
  6. 前記予圧機構のうち前記駆動部と反対側の端部が固定される固定部材を備え、 前記予圧機構は、予圧バネである、請求項1乃至5のいずれかに記載の液剤塗布装置。
  7. 前記予圧機構は、前記駆動部のうち前記ダイヤフラムと反対側の端部が固定される固定部材であり、 前記固定部材は、弾性部材によって構成される、請求項1乃至5のいずれかに記載の液剤塗布装置。
