Definitions
- the invention relates to processes for the preparation of blocked polyurethane-based impact modifiers for one-component epoxy resin adhesives.
- conventional epoxy adhesives are characterized by a high mechanical strength, in particular a high tensile strength.
- conventional epoxy adhesives are generally too brittle and can therefore by far not meet the requirements, in particular the automotive industry, under crash conditions in which both high tensile and peel stresses occur. Inadequate in this regard are often particularly the strengths at high, but especially at low temperatures (for example, ⁇ -10 ° C).
- An impact modifier also referred to as Toughener
- Toughener is one of the most important formulation ingredients in structural adhesives. It decisively influences important parameters such as impact resistance, aging resistance and adhesion.
- impact modifiers for epoxy resins are mainly liquid copolymers or preformed core-shell particles.
- One important type of impact modifier is blocked polyurethane toughener polymers for crash resistant structural adhesives.
- Mentioned blocked polyurethane toughener polymers are typically made in a 2-step process.
- a first step an isocyanate-terminated polymer is obtained by reacting polyols and polyisocyanates.
- the resulting isocyanate-terminated polymer is partially or completely blocked with a blocking agent.
- a 2-step method has the disadvantage that it is very time consuming.
- the addition of the blocking agent in the second step contributes to this. This is due to the time required until the blocking agent addition is completed and the additional heating time to heat up again to the required reaction temperature after the addition of the (typically cooler) blocking agent. Especially in large batches, these disadvantages are significant.
- the object of the present invention was therefore to provide a method of manufacturing impact modifiers which overcomes the problems of the prior art described above.
- the production time should be reduced while maintaining the mechanical properties of the adhesives containing the impact modifier according to the invention.
- mechanical properties are thus to be achieved in the case of adhesives containing impact modifiers prepared by the process according to the invention, in particular with regard to modulus of elasticity, elongation at break and tensile strength, tensile shear strength, angular peel strength and, in particular, impact peel strength.
- the epoxy adhesives should have comparable storage stability.
- adhesives which contain impact modifiers prepared by the process according to the invention have comparable mechanical properties as are achieved with conventionally prepared impact modifiers.
- the invention relates to a process for the preparation of an impact modifier which is an isocyanate-terminated polymer whose isocyanate groups are partially or completely blocked by reaction with a blocking agent, comprising the steps:

- a polyol is thus a compound having two or more hydroxy groups.
- a polyisocyanate is a compound having two or more isocyanate groups.
- a diol or a diisocyanate is a compound having two hydroxy groups or two isocyanate groups.
- a hydroxy-terminated polymer is a polymer having hydroxyl groups as end groups.

Description
Verfahren zur Herstellung blockierter Polyurethan- Schlagzähigkeitsmodifikatoren zur Verbesserung der Schlagzähigkeit einkomponentiger Epoxidklebstoffe Beschreibung
Technisches Gebiet
Butylhydroxytoluol (BHT).
Vorzugsweise folgt Schritt B) unmittelbar auf Schritt A).
- Diglycidylether von difunktionellen gesättigten oder ungesättigten, verzweigten oder unverzweigten, zyklischen oder offenkettigen C2-C30- Alkoholen, wie z.B. Ethylenglykol-, Butandiol-, Hexandiol-, Oktandiolgylcid- ylether, Cyclohexandimethanoldigylcidylether, Neopentylglycoldiglycidylether;
- Diglycidylether von difunktionellen, nieder- bis hochmolekularen Polyether- polyolen wie z.B. Polyethylenglycol-diglycidylether, Polypropylenglycol- diglycidylether;
(Ii)

Schlaqschälfestiqkeit/Impact peel (gemäss SO 1 1343)
