Description

프론트홀 인터페이스를 이용한 중앙 유닛 구성 방법 및 그 장치
본 실시예들은 5G(5 Generation) 무선액세스 네트워크 기지국 구성을 위한 중앙 유닛 및 분산 유닛 구성 방법 및 그 장치에 관한 것이다.
기존 LTE 통신 기술을 이용한 무선 기지국은 하나의 기지국에 다양한 계층으로 구성되는 네트워크 기능이 포함되었다. 또한, 무선 기지국은 DU(Digital Unit)와 RU(Radio Unit)로 분리 구성이 가능하며, DU는 물리 계층, MAC, RLC, RRC 기능을 수행하고, 셀 사이트에 설치되는 RU는 RF 기능을 수행하였다.
즉, 데이터 처리와 관련된 기능은 DU에 구성되어 처리되고, RU는 개별 셀 사이트에 설치되어 무선 송수신 기능을 담당하였다.
DU와 RU 장치 간은 CPRI(Common Public Radio Interface) 기반 인터페이스로 연결되지만 장비를 제조한 제조 업체가 다른 경우엔 상호 호환성을 확보하기가 어려운 문제점이 있다.
또한, 5G에서는 다양한 전송속도, 신뢰도, 지연도 요구사항과 다양한 서비스가 제공될 필요성이 있다. 이는 장소 별 또는 단말 별로 맞춤형 서비스를 제공하기 위한 것으로, 다양한 형태의 서비스 제공 장치(예를 들어, 기지국)가 필요하다.
이를 위해서는 기지국 구성 장소 별 또는 서비스 별로 동적으로 구성될 필요성이 있다. 또한, 다양한 형태의 기지국이 구성되는 경우에 기지국 장치 간의 상호 호환성이 매우 중요하다.
전술한 배경에서 안출된 실시예들은 다양한 형태의 기지국 구성을 제공하고자 한다.
또한, 본 실시예들은 기지국의 기능이 분리되는 기지국 분리 구조하에서 다양한 기지국 분리 구조의 호환성을 만족시키기 위해서 프론트홀 인터페이스 기반의 기지국 동적 기능 구성 방법 및 장치를 제공하고자 한다.
전술한 과제를 해결하기 위해서 안출된 일 실시예는, 중앙 유닛(Central Unit, CU)이 단말과 통신을 수행하는 방법에 있어서 프론트홀(Fronthaul) 인터페이스를 이용하여 중앙 유닛과 연결되는 분산 유닛(Distributed Unit, DU)의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 수신하는 단계와 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보에 기초하여 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 구성하는 단계 및 분산 유닛을 통해서 단말로 데이터를 송신하는 단계를 포함하는 방법을 제공할 수 있다.
또한, 일 실시예는 단말과 통신을 수행하는 중앙 유닛(Central Unit, CU)에 있어서 프론트홀(Fronthaul) 인터페이스를 이용하여 중앙 유닛과 연결되는 분산 유닛(Distributed Unit, DU)의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 수신하는 수신부와 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보에 기초하여 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 구성하는 제어부 및 분산 유닛을 통해서 단말로 데이터를 송신하는 송신부를 포함하는 중앙 유닛을 제공할 수 있다.
본 실시예들은 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 동적으로 구성함으로써, 다양한 요구사항을 만족시킬 수 있는 기지국을 구성하는 효과를 제공한다.
또한, 본 실시예들은 표준화된 프론트홀 인터페이스와 데이터 송수신 방법을 이용하여 다양한 구조의 분산 유닛과 중앙 유닛 간의 상호 호환성을 유지하는 효과를 제공한다.

본 발명에서의 무선통신시스템은 음성, 패킷 데이터 등과 같은 다양한 통신 서비스를 제공하기 위해 널리 배치된다. 무선통신시스템은 사용자 단말(User Equipment, UE) 및 기지국(Base Station, BS, 또는 eNB)을 포함한다. 본 명세서에서의 사용자 단말은 무선 통신에서의 단말을 의미하는 포괄적 개념으로서, WCDMA 및 LTE, HSPA 등에서의 UE(User Equipment)는 물론, GSM에서의 MS(Mobile Station), UT(User Terminal), SS(Subscriber Station), 무선기기(wireless device) 등을 모두 포함하는 개념으로 해석되어야 할 것이다.
기지국 또는 셀(cell)은 일반적으로 사용자 단말과 통신하는 지점(station)을 말하며, 노드-B(Node-B), eNB(evolved Node-B), 섹터(Sector), 싸이트(Site), BTS(Base Transceiver System), 액세스 포인트(Access Point), 릴레이 노드(Relay Node), RRH(Remote Radio Head), RU(Radio Unit), small cell 등 다른 용어로 불릴 수 있다.
즉, 본 명세서에서 기지국 또는 셀(cell)은 CDMA에서의 BSC(Base Station Controller), WCDMA의 Node-B, LTE에서의 eNB 또는 섹터(싸이트) 등이 커버하는 일부 영역 또는 기능을 나타내는 포괄적인 의미로 해석되어야 하며, 메가셀, 매크로셀, 마이크로셀, 피코셀, 펨토셀 및 릴레이 노드(relay node), RRH, RU, small cell 통신범위 등 다양한 커버리지 영역을 모두 포괄하는 의미이다.
상기 나열된 다양한 셀은 각 셀을 제어하는 기지국이 존재하므로 기지국은 두 가지 의미로 해석될 수 있다. i) 무선 영역과 관련하여 메가셀, 매크로셀, 마이크로셀, 피코셀, 펨토셀, 스몰 셀을 제공하는 장치 그 자체이거나, ii) 상기 무선영역 그 자체를 지시할 수 있다. i)에서 소정의 무선 영역을 제공하는 장치들이 동일한 개체에 의해 제어되거나 상기 무선 영역을 협업으로 구성하도록 상호작용하는 모든 장치들을 모두 기지국으로 지시한다. 무선 영역의 구성 방식에 따라 eNB, RRH, 안테나, RU, LPN, 포인트, 송수신포인트, 송신 포인트, 수신 포인트 등은 기지국의 일 실시예가 된다. ii)에서 사용자 단말의 관점 또는 이웃하는 기지국의 입장에서 신호를 수신하거나 송신하게 되는 무선 영역 그 자체를 기지국으로 지시할 수 있다.
따라서, 메가셀, 매크로셀, 마이크로셀, 피코셀, 펨토셀, 스몰 셀, RRH, 안테나, RU, LPN(Low Power Node), 포인트, eNB, 송수신포인트, 송신 포인트, 수신 포인트를 통칭하여 기지국으로 지칭한다.
본 명세서에서 사용자 단말과 기지국은 본 명세서에서 기술되는 기술 또는 기술적 사상을 구현하는데 사용되는 두 가지 송수신 주체로 포괄적인 의미로 사용되며 특정하게 지칭되는 용어 또는 단어에 의해 한정되지 않는다. 사용자 단말과 기지국은, 본 발명에서 기술되는 기술 또는 기술적 사상을 구현하는데 사용되는 두 가지(Uplink 또는 Downlink) 송수신 주체로 포괄적인 의미로 사용되며 특정하게 지칭되는 용어 또는 단어에 의해 한정되지 않는다. 여기서, 상향링크(Uplink, UL, 또는 업링크)는 사용자 단말에 의해 기지국으로 데이터를 송수신하는 방식을 의미하며, 하향링크(Downlink, DL, 또는 다운링크)는 기지국에 의해 사용자 단말로 데이터를 송수신하는 방식을 의미한다.
무선통신시스템에 적용되는 다중 접속 기법에는 제한이 없다. CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access), TDMA(Time Division Multiple Access), FDMA(Frequency Division Multiple Access), OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access), OFDM-FDMA, OFDM-TDMA, OFDM-CDMA와 같은 다양한 다중 접속 기법을 사용할 수 있다. 본 발명의 일 실시예는 GSM, WCDMA, HSPA를 거쳐 LTE 및 LTE-Advanced로 진화하는 비동기 무선통신과, CDMA, CDMA-2000 및 UMB로 진화하는 동기식 무선 통신 분야 등의 자원할당에 적용될 수 있다. 본 발명은 특정한 무선통신 분야에 한정되거나 제한되어 해석되어서는 아니 되며, 본 발명의 사상이 적용될 수 있는 모든 기술분야를 포함하는 것으로 해석되어야 할 것이다.
상향링크 전송 및 하향링크 전송은 서로 다른 시간을 사용하여 전송되는 TDD(Time Division Duplex) 방식이 사용될 수 있고, 또는 서로 다른 주파수를 사용하여 전송되는 FDD(Frequency Division Duplex) 방식이 사용될 수 있다.
또한, LTE, LTE-Advanced와 같은 시스템에서는 하나의 반송파 또는 반송파 쌍을 기준으로 상향링크와 하향링크를 구성하여 규격을 구성한다. 상향링크와 하향링크는, PDCCH(Physical Downlink Control CHannel), PCFICH(Physical Control Format Indicator CHannel), PHICH(Physical Hybrid ARQ Indicator CHannel), PUCCH(Physical Uplink Control CHannel), EPDCCH(Enhanced Physical Downlink Control CHannel) 등과 같은 제어채널을 통하여 제어정보를 전송하고, PDSCH(Physical Downlink Shared CHannel), PUSCH(Physical Uplink Shared CHannel) 등과 같은 데이터채널로 구성되어 데이터를 전송한다.
한편 EPDCCH(enhanced PDCCH 또는 extended PDCCH)를 이용해서도 제어 정보를 전송할 수 있다.
본 명세서에서 셀(cell)은 송수신 포인트로부터 전송되는 신호의 커버리지 또는 송수신 포인트(transmission point 또는 transmission/reception point)로부터 전송되는 신호의 커버리지를 가지는 요소 반송파(component carrier), 그 송수신 포인트 자체를 의미할 수 있다.
실시예들이 적용되는 무선통신 시스템은 둘 이상의 송수신 포인트들이 협력하여 신호를 전송하는 다중 포인트 협력형 송수신 시스템(coordinated multi-point transmission/reception System; CoMP 시스템) 또는 협력형 다중 안테나 전송방식(coordinated multi-antenna transmission system), 협력형 다중 셀 통신시스템일 수 있다. CoMP 시스템은 적어도 두 개의 다중 송수신 포인트와 단말들을 포함할 수 있다.
다중 송수신 포인트는 기지국 또는 매크로 셀(macro cell, 이하 'eNB'라 함)과, eNB에 광케이블 또는 광섬유로 연결되어 유선 제어되는, 높은 전송파워를 갖거나 매크로 셀 영역 내의 낮은 전송파워를 갖는 적어도 하나의 RRH일 수도 있다.
이하에서 하향링크(downlink)는 다중 송수신 포인트에서 단말로의 통신 또는 통신 경로를 의미하며, 상향링크(uplink)는 단말에서 다중 송수신 포인트로의 통신 또는 통신 경로를 의미한다. 하향링크에서 송신기는 다중 송수신 포인트의 일부분일 수 있고, 수신기는 단말의 일부분일 수 있다. 상향링크에서 송신기는 단말의 일부분일 수 있고, 수신기는 다중 송수신 포인트의 일부분일 수 있다.
이하에서는 PUCCH, PUSCH, PDCCH, EPDCCH 및 PDSCH 등과 같은 채널을 통해 신호가 송수신되는 상황을 'PUCCH, PUSCH, PDCCH, EPDCCH 및 PDSCH를 전송, 수신한다'는 형태로 표기하기도 한다.
또한 이하에서는 PDCCH를 전송 또는 수신하거나 PDCCH를 통해서 신호를 전송 또는 수신한다는 기재는 EPDCCH를 전송 또는 수신하거나 EPDCCH를 통해서 신호를 전송 또는 수신하는 것을 포함하는 의미로 사용될 수 있다.
즉, 이하에서 기재하는 물리 하향링크 제어채널은 PDCCH를 의미하거나, EPDCCH를 의미할 수 있으며, PDCCH 및 EPDCCH 모두를 포함하는 의미로도 사용된다.
또한, 설명의 편의를 위하여 PDCCH로 설명한 부분에도 본 발명의 일 실시예인 EPDCCH를 적용할 수 있으며, EPDCCH로 설명한 부분에도 본 발명의 일 실시예로 PDCCH를 적용할 수 있다.
한편, 이하에서 기재하는 상위계층 시그널링(High Layer Signaling)은 RRC 파라미터를 포함하는 RRC 정보를 전송하는 RRC 시그널링을 포함한다.
eNB은 단말들로 하향링크 전송을 수행한다. eNB은 유니캐스트 전송(unicast transmission)을 위한 주 물리 채널인 물리 하향링크 공유채널(Physical Downlink Shared Channel, PDSCH), 그리고 PDSCH의 수신에 필요한 스케줄링 등의 하향링크 제어 정보 및 상향링크 데이터 채널(예를 들면 물리 상향링크 공유채널(Physical Uplink Shared Channel, PUSCH))에서의 전송을 위한 스케줄링 승인 정보를 전송하기 위한 물리 하향링크 제어채널(Physical Downlink Control Channel, PDCCH)을 전송할 수 있다. 이하에서는, 각 채널을 통해 신호가 송수신 되는 것을 해당 채널이 송수신되는 형태로 기재하기로 한다.
본 명세서에서의 기지국 또는 5G 기지국은 중앙 유닛(Central Unit, CU)과 분산 유닛(Distributed Unit, DU)을 포함하는 의미로 설명될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 5G 무선액세스 네트워크는 집중되어 설치되는 중앙 유닛과 셀 사이트에 분산되어 설치되는 분산 유닛으로 분리 구성될 수 있다. 필요에 따라, 기지국은 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능과 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 포함하여 프론트홀 인터페이스로 연결된 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛을 모두 포함하는 의미로 설명한다. 또는, 기지국은 중앙 유닛, 분산 유닛과 RF 기능을 담당하는 RU로 분리되어 구성될 수도 있다.
한편, 본 명세서에서의 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛은 해당 유닛이 설치되는 위치를 기준으로 설명의 편의를 위하여 임의적으로 선정한 용어로 해당 용어에 한정되지 않는다. 예를 들어, 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛은 무선망 구축 시나리오 등에 따라서 배치 위치 및 배치 기능이 상이할 수 있다. 또한, 각각의 유닛을 제조하는 제조업체에 따라서 그 명칭이 달라질 수도 있다. 따라서, 본 명세서에서의 중앙 유닛은 데이터 처리 유닛, 국사 유닛, 집중국 유닛, 가상화 서버 등의 다양한 명칭을 포함하는 의미로 이해되어야 한다. 마찬가지로, 분산 유닛의 경우에도 셀 사이트 유닛, 라디오 유닛, 종단 유닛 등 다양한 명칭을 포함하는 의미로 이해되어야 한다. 즉, 본 명세서에서의 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛은 개별 기지국 기능을 수행하되, 기지국 기능이 분산된 개별 유닛을 의미하는 것으로 그 명칭에 제한은 없다.
또한, 프론트홀(Fronthaul) 인터페이스는 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛의 인터페이스를 의미하는 용어로 사용되며, 코어망과 중앙 유닛을 연결하는 인터페이스인 백홀(Backhaul) 인터페이스와 구분되어 이해될 수 있다. 물론, 프론트홀 인터페이스도 백홀 인터페이스와 구분하기 위한 임의적 용어로 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛을 연결하기 위한 인터페이스를 의미하며, 그 명칭에 제한은 없다.
이하에서의 5G 또는 5G 통신 방식은 LTE-Advanced 보다 더 많은 데이터를 더 빠르게 전송하기 위해서 연구중인 통신 방식을 총칭하는 명칭으로 이해되어야 한다. 즉, 5G는 특정 통신 방식을 의미하는 것일 수도 있고, 대용량 초고속 데이터 통신을 위한 일부 기능 또는 전체 통신 시스템을 의미하는 것일 수 있다. 따라서, 본 명세서에서의 5G는 대용량 초고속 통신을 수행하는 통신 시스템 또는 통신 기능을 의미하는 것으로 이해되어야 한다.
본 발명은 다양한 형태의 기지국 분리 구조를 가지는 5G 기지국의 프론트홀 인터페이스를 이용한 중앙 유닛 및 분산 유닛 구성 방법 및 그 장치에 관한 것이다.
도 1은 일 실시예에 따른 기지국의 구조를 설명하기 위한 도면이다.
도 1을 참조하면, 5G 무선액세스 네트워크(Radio Access Network, RAN)는 주로 집중국에 설치되는 중앙 유닛(Central Unit, 100)과 셀 사이트에 설치되는 분산 유닛(Distributed Unit, 110, 120)으로 분리되어 구성될 수 있다. 하나의 CU는 하나 이상의 DU(110, 120와 연결되어 기지국을 구성할 수 있다.
예를 들어, CU(100)는 벤더 A가 제조한 DU(110)와 연결될 수 있고, 벤더 B가 제조한 DU(120)와 연결될 수도 있다. CU(100)와 DU들(110, 120)은 동일한 벤더 또는 다른 벤더가 제조/설치할 수 있다. 이 경우, CU(100)와 DU(110)는 동일한 벤더에 의해서 구성될 수 있으며, CU(100)와 다른 DU(120)는 상이한 벤더에 의해서 구성될 수도 있다.
CU(100)와 각 DU(110, 120)는 프론트홀 인터페이스를 통해서 연결될 수 있다. 이하에서는 CU(100)와 DU(110, 120)의 연결 인터페이스인 프론트홀 인터페이스를 Xf로 예를 들어 설명한다. 필요에 따라, 프론트홀은 미드홀(Midhaul)로 기술되기도 한다.
한편, DU는(110, 120)는 RF 혹은 안테나 기능이 포함될 수도 있고 별도로 분리될 수도 있으며, 분리된 경우엔 CU(100), DU(110, 120), RF/안테나(미도시)의 3단계 분리 구조로 기지국이 설계될 수도 있다.
본 실시예에서의 기지국은 베이스밴드 기능으로 PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP, RRC 형태의 독립적 네트워크 기능(Network Function, NF)으로 가상화 방식으로 구현될 수 있다. 또한, 기지국의 상위 프로토콜과 하위 프로토콜 기능들은 각각 CU와 DU에 적절히 분리되어 구성될 수 있다. 또는, 독립적 네트워크 기능들은 LTE 통신 방식의 경우와 같이 가상화되지 않고 고정식으로 구현될 수도 있다. 물론 네트워크 기능별 세부 담당 기능의 수행은 LTE의 해당 기능 수행과 달라질 수 있다.
특히, 5G 통신 사업자들은 무선 데이터 트래픽 수요, 커버리지 수요, 장비 가격 및 셀 사이트 환경에 따라 다양한 종류의 5G 기지국을 최적으로 구축하고 운용할 필요가 있다. 또한, 밀리미터파 주파수를 사용하는 기지국이 사용되는 경우엔 많은 수의 스몰 셀을 사업자가 구축해야 하는 부담이 있으므로 다중 벤더 호환성을 통한 유연성을 확보할 필요가 있다. 이를 위해서, 전술한 본 실시예와 같이 프론트홀 인터페이스를 이용하여 CU와 DU를 분리하고, 다른 벤더 간의 CU와 DU도 호환이 가능하도록 운용될 필요가 있다. 이러한 필요성에서 안출된 본 실시예들은 표준화된 프론트홀 인터페이스를 이용하여 CU와 DU의 네트워크 기능을 동적으로 구성하는 방법 및 장치를 제안하고자 한다.
전술한 바와 같이, 5G 통신 환경에서는 사업자의 무선망 구축 시나리오에 따라 다양한 기지국 기능의 배치 및 이에 따른 기지국 분리 구조 형상이 사용될 수 있다. 다양한 기지국 분리 구조 형상이 존재할 수 있으며, 기지국 분리 구조 형상은 벤더 별로 또는 설정에 따라 다르게 구성될 수 있다. 따라서, CU가 다양한 구조를 가지는 DU와 프론트홀 인터페이스를 통해서 기지국의 기능을 구현하기 위해서는 CU 또는 DU의 네트워크 기능을 동적으로 구성할 필요가 있다. 이하에서는, 이해의 편의를 위하여 CU 관점에서 네트워크 기능을 구성하는 방법에 대해서 설명하나, 동일한 기술적 사상에 대해서 DU 또는 단말 관점에서의 동작도 본 발명의 범주에 포함됨은 당연하다.
도 2는 일 실시예에 따른 중앙 유닛의 동작을 설명하기 위한 도면이다.
도 2를 참조하면, 일 실시예에 따른 중앙 유닛은 프론트홀(Fronthaul) 인터페이스를 이용하여 중앙 유닛과 연결되는 분산 유닛(Distributed Unit, DU)의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 수신하는 단계를 수행한다(S210). 예를 들어, 중앙 유닛은 분산 유닛과 프론트홀 인터페이스를 통해서 연결될 수 있다. 중앙 유닛은 프론트홀 인터페이스를 통해서 연결된 하나 이상의 분산 유닛으로부터 해당 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 수신할 수 있다.
네트워크 기능 구성정보는 해당 분산 유닛에 구성되는 네트워크 기능에 관한 정보를 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 분산 유닛 타입정보, 분산 유닛 식별정보, 네트워크 기능 식별정보 및 네트워크 기능 세트 식별정보 중 적어도 하나의 정보를 포함할 수 있다. 분산 유닛 타입정보는 분산 유닛에 구성되는 네트워크 기능 별로 미리 설정된 타입이 구분되고, 해당 타입에 대한 정보를 포함할 수 있다. 분산 유닛 식별정보는 분산 유닛을 식별하기 위한 고유 정보를 의미한다. 네트워크 기능 식별정보는 개별 네트워크 기능을 식별하기 위한 정보를 의미하며, 네트워크 기능 세트 식별정보는 하나 이상의 네트워크 기능을 세트로 그룹화하여 구별하기 위한 식별정보를 의미한다. 이외에도 분산 유닛에 구성된 네트워크 기능은 다양한 형태로 중앙 유닛으로 전달될 수 있다.
중앙 유닛은 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 이용하여 각각의 분산 유닛에 구성되는 네트워크 기능을 확인할 수 있다. 각각의 분산 유닛에 포함되는 네트워크 기능은 분산 유닛 별로 또는 분산 유닛의 설정 별로 다양하게 구성될 수 있다. 따라서, 중앙 유닛은 분산 유닛 각각으로부터 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 수신하여 다양한 형태를 가지는 분산 유닛의 정보를 확인할 수 있고, 이를 이용하여 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 구성하여 분산 유닛과 함께 기지국 기능을 단말에 제공할 수 있다.
또한, 중앙 유닛은 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보에 기초하여 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 구성하는 단계를 수행한다(S220). 중앙 유닛은 수신된 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 확인하여 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 동적으로 구성할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 중앙 유닛은 분산 유닛에 구성된 네트워크 기능을 확인하고, 분산 유닛에 구성되지 않은 네트워크 기능을 중심으로 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 구성할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 분산 유닛은 RLC, MAC 및 PHY 네트워크 기능 중 적어도 하나의 네트워크 기능을 구성할 수 있다. 중앙 유닛은 RRC, PDCP, RLC 및 MAC 네트워크 기능 중 적어도 하나의 네트워크 기능을 구성할 수 있다. 이와 같이, 분산 유닛과 중앙 유닛에 구성될 수 있는 네트워크 기능은 일부 중첩될 수 있다. 한편, 중앙 유닛 또는 분산 유닛은 네트워크 기능 또는 네트워크 서브 기능의 활성화 동작을 관리하는 네트워크 기능 관리 개체를 포함할 수 있다. 또한, 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛은 모두 프론트홀 인터페이스를 관리하기 위한 프론트홀 인터페이스 네트워크 기능을 포함할 수 있다. 프론트홀 인터페이스 네트워크 기능은 프론트홀의 대역폭을 산출하여 할당할 수 있다.
또한, 중앙 유닛은 분산 유닛을 통해서 단말로 데이터를 송신하는 단계를 수행한다(S230). 중앙 유닛은 분산 유닛에 대응되도록 네트워크 기능을 구성하고, 분산 유닛을 통해서 단말과 데이터를 송수신할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 중앙 유닛은 단말로 전송할 데이터 패킷을 프론트홀 인터페이스를 이용하여 분산 유닛으로 전송하고, 분산 유닛은 해당 데이터 패킷을 가공 처리하여 단말로 전송할 수 있다. 마찬가지로, 분산 유닛은 단말로부터 데이터를 수신하여 네트워크 기능을 거쳐서 데이터 패킷을 가공처리하여 중앙 유닛으로 전달할 수 있다. 중앙 유닛은 코어망과 백홀 인터페이스를 통해서 연결되며, 이를 통해서 단말의 데이터를 처리할 수 있다. 이와 같이, 단말 관점에서는 프론트홀 인터페이스로 연결되는 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛이 하나의 기지국 기능을 수행하는 것으로 보일 수 있다. 다만, 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛으로 분리 구조를 형성하고, 다양한 형태의 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛으로 구성됨으로써 보다 다양한 5G 요구사항을 만족하면서 동적으로 호환성을 제공할 수 있는 기지국을 구성할 수 있다.
이하에서는, 전술한 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성과 관련하여 도면을 참조하여 보다 상세하게 설명한다.
도 3은 일 실시예에 따른 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛으로 구성되는 기지국 구성의 다양한 구조를 설명하기 위한 도면이다.
기지국을 구성하는 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛은 다양한 타입으로 구성될 수 있다. 도 3을 참조하면, 타입 1 기지국(300)의 경우, 중앙 유닛(302)은 RRC 및 PDCP 네트워크 기능을 구성하고, 분산 유닛(305)은 RLC, MAC, PHY 네트워크 기능을 구성하여 분리 구조를 형성할 수 있다. 또는 타입 2 기지국(350)과 같이, 중앙 유닛(352)은 RRC, PDCP, RLC, MAC 네트워크 기능을 구성하고, 분산 유닛(355)은 PHY 네트워크 기능만을 구성할 수도 있다. 이외에도 필요에 따라 RLC 또는 MAC의 비실시간 처리가 허용되는 일부 기능은 중앙 유닛에, 실시간 처리가 필요한 일부 기능은 분산 유닛에 분산 배치되어 구성될 수 있을 것이다.
이와 같이, 중앙 유닛(302, 352)은 RRC, PDCP, RLC 및 MAC 네트워크 기능 중 적어도 하나의 네트워크 기능을 구성할 수 있으며, 분산 유닛(305, 355)은 RLC, MAC 및 PHY 네트워크 기능 중 적어도 하나의 네트워크 기능을 구성할 수 있다. 또는 RF와 안테나가 내장된 일체형 장치인 경우 RF도 분산 유닛에 포함되어 구성될 수 있다. 따라서, 전술한 타입 1 기지국(300) 및 타입 2 기지국(350) 이외에도 다양한 형태의 기지국 분리 구조가 구현될 수 있다. 예를 들어, RLC와 MAC 계층은 패킷 결합(PacketConcatenation, Multiplexing, Assembling 등), 분할(Packet Segmentation, De-multiplexing 등), 패킷 재정렬(Packet Reordering) 및 패킷 재전송(Packet Retransmission) 등의 패킷 처리 기능이 유사하므로, 고성능의 패킷 처리를 위해서 단일 계층으로 통합되거나 유사한 기능은 상호 합쳐질 수도 있을 것이다. 또는 필요에 따라서 특정 네트워크 기능은 제거되거나 사용되지 않을 수도 있다.
이러한 기지국 분리 구조는 필요에 따라 다양하게 구성될 수 있다.
예를 들어, 타입 1 기지국(300)은 PDCP를 통한 5G 및 LTE/WiFi 기지국 장비 간 연동이 용이하고 소용량 프론트홀 데이터 전송이 필요하므로 광대역 전송을 위한 mmWave 기지국에 보다 적합할 수 있다. 타입 2 기지국(350)은 짧은 전송 지연과 빠른 무선자원 스케줄링이 가능하나 대용량 프론트홀 데이터 전송이 필요하므로 6GHz 대역 이하의 주파수를 이용하는 기지국에 보다 적합할 것이다.
한편, DU(305, 355)에는 CU(302, 352)와는 별도로 이동성 등의 지원을 위해 무선자원관리(Radio Resource Management, RRM) 기능이 추가될 수도 있다. 또는, RAN 제어평면(Control Plane, CP)에 해당하는 네트워크 기능(예를 들어, RRC)가 CU(302, 352)와 DU(305, 355)에 모두 배치 될 수도 있다.
도 4는 일 실시예에 따른 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛에 구성될 수 있는 네트워크 기능을 예시적으로 도시한 도면이다.
도 4를 참조하여, 전술한 네트워크 기능들이 중앙 유닛(400) 및 분산 유닛(450)에 구성되는 일 예를 설명한다. 전술한 네트워크 기능들은 가상화 방법에 의해서 구성될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 하드웨어 상 소프트웨어 모듈로 가상화되어 구현될 수 있다. 가상화되어 구현되는 네트워크 모듈은 전술한 네트워크 기능 모두이거나 일부 일 수 있다.
예를 들어, 먼저 중앙 유닛(400)과 분산 유닛(450)의 네트워크 가상화 관리 방법에 대해 설명한다. 중앙 집중화 된 중앙 유닛(400)은 대용량/고성능 범용기지국 하드웨어 상에 소프트웨어 모듈로 가상화된 RRC(402), PDPC(403), RLC(405), MAC(406) 네트워크 기능의 전부 혹은 일부를 포함한다. 또한, 분산 배치되는 분산 유닛(450)은 소프트웨어 모듈로 가상화된 RLC(453), MAC(452), PHY(451) 네트워크 기능의 전부 혹은 일부를 포함한다. 분산 유닛(450)의 네트워크 기능들은 가상화되지 않은 전용 네트워크 기능으로 구현될 수도 잇다. 또한, 프론트홀 인터페이스 모듈을 처리하는 프론트홀 인터페이스(Fronthaul Interface, FHI) 네트워크 기능(407, 454)은 중앙 유닛(400)과 분산 유닛(450)에 모두 구성될 수 있다.
프론트홀 인터페이스는 중앙 유닛(400)과 분산 유닛(450)간의 점대점(Point-to-Point) 논리적 인터페이스로서, 시그널링 정보를 교환하고 데이터 전달을 수행한다. 사용자 평면(User Plane, UP)데이터는 GTP-U를 통해, CP Xf AP(Application Protocol)는 SCTP 등을통해 전송할 수 있다.
프론트홀 인터페이스 네트워크 기능(407, 454)의 세부 주요 기능은 다음과 같다:
- CU와 DU의 네트워크 기능 가상화 관리
- DU 간 이동성 관리(Inter-DU Mobility)
- CU와 DU 간 제어 및 관리 시그널링 전송
- CU와 DU 간의 사용자 평면 베어러(Bearer) 혹은 플로우(Flow) 제어
- 패킷 매핑 및 포맷 변환
- 부하 관리
- 에러 처리
한편, 중앙 유닛(400)은 코어망과 중앙 유닛(400) 간 또는 중앙 유닛과 중앙 유닛 간의 백홀 인터페이스 처리를 담당하는 BHI(Backhaul Interface) 네트워크 기능(404)이 추가로 구성된다. 예를 들어, 중앙 유닛(400)은 중앙 유닛과 코어망 간의 백홀 인터페이스 또는 중앙 유닛과 다른 중앙 유닛 간의 백홀 인터페이스의 처리를 담당하기 위한 개체 또는 기능을 포함할 수 있다. 즉, 중앙 유닛(400)이 백홀 인터페이스의 종단점이 될 수 있다.
또한, 중앙 유닛(400) 또는 분산 유닛은 네트워크 기능 또는 네트워크 서브 기능의 활성화 동작을 관리하는 네트워크 기능 관리 개체를 포함할 수 있다. 네트워크 기능 관리 개체는 가상화를 통해서 소프트웨어적으로 구현될 수도 있고, 별도의 개체로 구성될 수도 있다. 도 4에서는 네트워크 기능 관리 개체를 무선 액세스망 오케스트레이터(RAN Orchestrator, 401)로 기재하여 설명한다. RAN 오케스트레이터(401)는 중앙 유닛(400)과 분산 유닛(450)의 네트워크 기능 설치, 자원 할당 및 관리를 동적으로 제어하는 기능을 수행할 수 있다. RAN 오케스트레이터(401)는 중앙 유닛(400)에만 혹은 중앙 유닛(400)과 분산 유닛(450) 모두에 배치될 수 있다.
한편, 하나의 네트워크 기능은 다수의 네트워크 서브 기능(Network Sub-Function, NSF)으로 구성될 수 있다. 또한, NSF 단위의 동적 제어도 수행될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 사용 시나리오, 서비스 요구사항 및 데이터 종류에 따라 PDCP 네트워크 기능에 있는 패킷 헤더 압축 NSF 또는 RLC 네트워크 기능에 있는 패킷 결합/분할/재정렬/재전송 NSF의 활성 및 비활성 등의 제어가 가능하다. NSF는 네트워크 기능의 세부 기능으로 구분되어 설정될 수도 있고, 사용자 설정 등에 따라 설정될 수도 있다.
이상에서 설명한 바와 같이, 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛은 각각 다양한 네트워크 기능을 구성할 수 있다. 전술한 바와 같이, 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛에 구성되는 네트워크 기능은 기지국 분리 구조 형태에 따라 다양하게 변경될 수 있으며, 기지국 분리 구조는 벤더에 따라 다양하게 설정될 수 있다.
예를 들어, 1)서로 다른 벤더의 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛이 동일한 네트워크 기능 배치로 구성되거나, 2)서로 다른 벤더의 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛이 서로 다른 네트워크 기능 배치로 구성될 수도 있을 것이다. 1)의 경우는 연결된 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛이 서로 다른 벤더이나 네트워크 기능 구성이 동일하므로 도 3의 타입 1 기지국(300)과 같이 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛이 구성될 수 있다. 2)의 경우는 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성이 상이하므로, 도 3의 타입 2 기지국(350)의 중앙 유닛(352)에 타입 1 기지국(300)의 분산 유닛(355)이 연결된 경우가 발생할 수 있다. 이러한 경우, 불필요한 네트워크 기능의 중복 또는 네트워크 기능의 누락이 발생할 수 있고, 프론트홀 인터페이스를 이용한 정보교환이 원활하게 이루어지지 않는 문제점이 발생할 수 있다.
따라서, 2의 경우와 같이 다른 타입의 분산 유닛이 중앙 유닛에 연결되는 경우에 분산 유닛에 대한 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 이용하여 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 구성 또는 재구성하는 절차가 필요하다. 중앙 유닛은 다른 형태의 분산 유닛과의 연동을 위해서 모든 기지국 네트워크 기능 또는 필수 네트워크 기능을 포함하고, 필요한 네트워크 기능은 가상화를 통해서 동적으로 구성할 수 있다.
도 5는 일 실시예에 따른 중앙 유닛 또는 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성 동작을 설명하기 위한 도면이다.
전술한 바와 같이, 본 실시예에 따른 중앙 유닛은 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 이용하여 네트워크 기능을 동적으로 구성할 수 있다.
도 5를 참조하면, 중앙 유닛은 분산 유닛과 프론트홀 인터페이스를 통해서 연결을 설정한다(S510). 예를 들어, CU와 DU 간 프론트홀 인터페이스(Xf)를 통해 CU와 DU 간 연결이 설정될 수 있으며, 이를 위해서 CU와 DU는 각각 프론트홀 인터페이스 네트워크 기능을 구성할 수 있다.
이후, 중앙 유닛은 연결된 분산 유닛의 형태를 인식한다(S520). 예를 들어, 중앙 유닛은 프론트홀 인터페이스를 통해 분산 유닛과 정보를 교환하고, 교환한 정보를 이용하여 연결된 분산 유닛의 구조 또는 구성을 확인할 수 있다. 전술한 바와 같이, 분산 유닛은 벤더 또는 설정에 따라 네트워크 기능 중 일부 또는 전부를 구성할 수 있으며, 중앙 유닛은 프론트홀 인터페이스를 통해서 분산 유닛에 구성된 네트워크 기능에 대한 구성정보를 획득할 수 있다.
중앙 유닛은 연결된 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 기반으로 필요한 네트워크 기능을 구성 또는 재구성할 수 있다(S530). 예를 들어, 중앙 유닛은 가상화된 네트워크 기능 중 분산 유닛에 구성된 네트워크 기능과 중복되지 않도록 필요한 네트워크 기능을 제어 및 관리한다. 또한, 중앙 유닛은 프론트홀 인터페이스 네트워크 기능을 통해서 연결된 CU와 DU 간 요구되는 프론트홀 대역폭을 계산하여 할당할 수 있다. 또한, CU와 DU 간 데이터 전송을 제어할 수 있다. 필요에 따라 중앙 유닛은 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 재구성할 수도 있다.
중앙 유닛은 네트워크 기능 또는 네트워크 서브 기능의 활성화를 제어한다(S540). 예를 들어, 중앙 유닛은 다양한 네트워크 기능을 가상화하여 구성할 수 있으며, 연결된 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 이용하여 일부 네트워크 기능을 활성화 또는 비활성화할 수 있다. 또는, 중앙 유닛은 각 네트워크 기능의 서브 기능 단위로 활성화 또는 비활성화 제어 동작을 수행할 수도 있다. 일 예로, RLC 네트워크 기능 중 패킷 결합 및 분할 부분을 서브 기능으로 설정하고, 해당 서브 기능의 활성화 여부를 결정하여 제어할 수도 있다.
중앙 유닛은 네트워크 기능에 대한 사용이 완료되면 불필요한 네트워크 기능의 자원을 해제할 수 있다(S550). 필요에 따라 중앙 유닛은 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 해제할 수도 있다. 여기서 분산 유닛 내 전체 네트워크 기능이 활성 혹은 비활성되는 경우에는 해당 분산 유닛 전체의 활성(또는 연결) 혹은 비활성(또는 비연결)로 처리될 수 있다.
위에서는 중앙 유닛이 연결되는 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 이용하여 중앙 유닛 또는 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 구성 또는 재구성하는 절차에 대해서 설명하였다.
한편, 단말은 이동 중에도 데이터 통신을 수행할 수 있고, 5G 통신 환경에서도 단말의 이동에 따른 끊김없는 데이터 전송이 수행될 필요가 있다. 따라서, 위에서 설명한 바와 같이 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛이 네트워크 기능을 설정하는 경우에 단말의 이동에 따라 분산 유닛 또는 중앙 유닛이 변경될 수 있다.
이 경우에 전술한 바와 같이, 분산 유닛 또는 중앙 유닛은 벤더 또는 설정에 따라 구성되는 네트워크 기능이 상이할 수 있으므로, 중앙 유닛은 단말의 이동성 지원을 위한 핸드오버 과정에서 네트워크 기능을 재구성 또는 새롭게 구성할 필요가 있다. 이하에서는, 위와 같이 단말의 핸드오버에 따른 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성에 대해서 도면을 참조하여 설명한다.
도 6은 일 실시예에 따른 단말의 핸드오버 시나리오를 설명하기 위한 도면이다.
도 6을 참조하면, 코어망(600)은 CU 1(610) 및 CU 2(650)와 연결될 수 있다. 코어망(600)과 CU들(610, 650)의 연결은 백홀 인터페이스를 통해서 이루어질 수 있다.
CU 1(610)은 DU 1(615), DU 2(620) 및 DU 3(625)와 프론트홀 인터페이스를 통해서 연결을 구성할 수 있으며, CU 2(650)도 DU 4(655), DU 5(660) 및 DU 6(665)와 프론트홀 인터페이스를 통해서 연결을 구성할 수 있다. 여기서, CU와 각각의 DU들은 서로 다른 네트워크 기능으로 구성될 수 있다.
단말의 이동성을 고려할 때 3가지 시나리오가 고려될 수 있다. 시나리오 1은 단말이 동일한 DU 1(615)에서 Intra-DU 이동을 수행하는 경우이다. 이 경우, 단말은 DU 1(615)에 재접속 등의 절차를 수행할 수 있다. 시나리오 2는 단말이 DU 2(620)에서 DU 3(625)으로 이동하는 경우이다. 시나리오 2는 Inter-DU 이동 상황으로 단말은 DU 변경을 위한 핸드오버 절차를 수행한다. 만약, DU 2(620)와 DU 3(625)의 네트워크 기능 구성이 다를 경우에 단말의 핸드오버 절차 과정에서 CU 1(610)의 네트워크 기능 재구성이 필요할 수 있다. 시나리오 3은 Inter-CU 이동 상황으로 단말의 이동에 따라서 CU와 DU가 모두 변경되는 경우이다. 예를 들어, CU 1(610) 및 DU 3(625)과 연결되어 데이터를 송수신하던 단말이 이동하여 CU 2(650) 및 DU 4(655)와 연결될 가능성이 있다. 이 경우, 단말은 핸드오버 절차를 수행하며, 필요에 따라 CU와 DU의 네트워크 기능이 재구성될 수도 있다.
이하에서는, 전술한 시나리오 중 Xf 인터페이스를 통해 단말이 서로 다른 DU 간 이동하여 핸드오버가 발생하는 경우를 예를 들어 설명한다. 동일 CU 내 연결된 DU 간 핸드오버 상황이 발생할 경우에 DU의 네트워크 기능 구성이 벤더 또는 설정에 따라 상이할 수 있으므로, CU는 핸드오버 절차에 준하여 처리할 필요가 있다.
도 7은 일 실시예에 따른 단말의 핸드오버를 위한 중앙 유닛의 동작을 설명하기 위한 도면이다.
도 7을 참조하면, CU는 하나 이상의 DU에 대한 채널 상태 정보를 수신한다(S710). 채널 상태 정보는 서빙 DU 및 이웃 DU에 대한 빔(beam) 또는 셀 품질을 측정한 결과를 포함할 수 있다. 또한, CU 및 DU 각각에 대한 식별정보를 포함할 수 있다. 또는, CU 및 DU 각각에 대한 네트워크 기능 구성 타입에 대한 정보를 포함할 수도 있다. CU는 소스 DU를 통해서 단말이 전송한 채널 상태 정보를 수신할 수 있다.
CU는 채널 상태 정보에 기초하여 단말의 Inter-DU 핸드오버를 결정하고 준비 동작을 수행한다(S720). CU는 단말의 위치정보, 채널상태정보 및 데이터 처리 용량 중 적어도 하나를 고려하여 단말에 연결될 타켓 DU를 결정할 수 있다.
CU는 타켓 DU의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 수신하고, 이를 이용하여 CU 또는 DU의 네트워크 기능을 구성 또는 재구성한다(S730). 예를 들어, CU는 타켓 DU의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 바탕으로, 필요에 따라 CU의 네트워크 기능을 재구성할 수 있다. 또한, CU와 타켓 DU의 연결을 위한 프론트홀 인터페이스의 대역폭 등을 재설정할 수도 있다.
이후, CU는 단말이 핸드오버를 요청하고, 단말은 타켓 DU를 거쳐서 랜덤 액세스 절차를 수행하여 핸드오버를 수행할 수 있다.
필요한 경우, CU는 데이터 베어러 또는 플로우 변경을 결정할 수 있다. CU는 타켓 DU에 데이터 베어러 또는 플로우 변경을 요청하고, 변경 절차를 수행한다(S740). 예를 들어, CU는 타겟 DU에 데이터 베어러 또는 플로우 수정 요청을 한다. 수정 요청을 위해서는 무선 베어러 정보 및 무선 플로우 정보와 식별자(ID)가 사용될 수 있다. 추가로 베어러와 플로우 간 변환 및 매핑이 필요한 경우에는 CU에서 이를 수행한다.
단말이 타켓 DU를 통해서 랜덤 액세스 절차를 수행하고, 타켓 DU는 해당 단말에 필요한 무선 자원을 할당한다. 이후, 단말은 타켓 DU를 통해서 CU에 DU가 핸드오버가 완료되었음을 알려준다.
CU는 소스 DU에 연결된 단말의 무선자원을 해제하고, 단말의 Inter-DU 핸드오버를 완료한다(S750).
도 8은 일 실시예에 따른 단말의 Inter-DU 핸드오버를 동작을 설명하기 위한 신호도이다.
도 8을 참조하여, 단말의 Inter-DU 핸드오버 절차를 신호도를 이용하여 다시 한 번 설명한다. 도 8에서 프론트홀 인터페이스를 통한 정보의 교환은 점선으로 표시한다.
단말(800)은 소스 DU(810)를 통해서 서빙 DU(810) 및 이웃 DU들에 빔(Beam) 및 셀(Cell) 측정 결과를 CU(830)에 보고한다(S800). 측정 결과는 채널 상태 정보에 포함되어 전송될 수 있다. 또한, CU(830)와 DU(810, 820)의 고유 식별자인 CU ID와 DU ID가 사용될 수 있다. 또는, CU(830)와 DU(810, 820)의 장치 종류를 나타내기 위해서 CU_TYPE과 DU_TYPE 값이 포함될 수 있고, CU(830)는 타입 정보를 이용하여 네트워크 기능 구성을 분류할 수 있다. 단말과 기지국에서 빔포밍(Beamforming) 전송이 지원되는 경우엔 DU 내 다수의 빔 정보 및 측정이 추가로 수행되고, 측정 결과가 포함되어 CU(830)로 전달될 수 있다.
CU(830)는 빔 및 셀 측정 결과에 따라 DU 간 핸드오버의 필요성을 결정한다(S805). CU(830)는 Inter-DU 핸드오버를 결정하기 위하여 S800 단계에서 수신한 정보와 개별 단말의 데이터 요구량 및 전체 망의 데이터 처리량 등의 정보를 종합적으로 고려할 수 있다.
CU(830)는 최적의 연결을 위한 타겟 DU(820)의 빔 또는 셀을 선택한다(S810). 예를 들어, CU는 최적의 셀, 후보 셀, 셀/단말 간 최적 빔 및 빔 Pair, 후보 빔 및 빔 Pair, 셀 ID, 빔 ID, 빔 Pair ID 등의 정보에 기반하여 판단을 수행할 수 있다.
CU(830)는 수집된 타겟 DU(820)의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 바탕으로 필요 시 CU(830)의 네트워크 기능을 구성할 수 있다(S815). 또한, CU(830)는 네트워크 기능 구성에 따라 프론트홀 인터페이스를 통한 전송 데이터를 변경할 수 있다. CU(830)는 타켓 DU(820)의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 확인함에 있어서, 타켓 DU(820)타입 또는 개별 네트워크 기능 식별 정보를 이용할 수 있다. 예를 들어, RAN 네트워크 기능(NF)을 식별할 수 있는 RAN NF ID가 사용될 수 있다. 또는 CU(830) 및 DU(810, 820)의 NF Set ID가 사용될 수도 있다. 또는, 개별 RAN 네트워크 서브 기능(NSF)을 식별할 수 있는 RAN NSF ID도 사용될 수 있다. 여기서 NF Set ID가 다르게 설정되는 경우에 NF set ID 별로 포함되는 NF들이 다르게 구성된다. 또한, CU(830)는 네트워크 기능을 구성 또는 재구성함에 따라 타켓 DU(820)와의 최적화된 프론트홀 대역폭을 선택 설정하기 위해서 미리 정의한 FH Bandwidth ID를 사용할 수 있다 구체적으로, FH_BW_ID1은 10Gbps, FH_BW_ID2은 100Gbps 등으로 정의되어 전송 대역폭 지원을 구분할 수 있다.
CU(830)는 단말(800)에 DU 간 핸드오버를 요청한다(S820). 예를 들어, Inter-DU 핸드오버 요청은 RRC Connection Reconfiguration 메시지를 통해서 전송될 수 있다. 여기서 핸드오버는 셀 또는 빔 간 핸드오버를 포함할 수 있다. Inter-DU 핸드오버 요청은 소스 DU(810)를 통해서 전달된다.
단말(800)은 타겟 DU(820)를 통해서 CU(830)에 랜덤 액세스 절차를 수행한다(S825). 예를 들어, 단말(800)은 타켓 DU(820)을 통해서 CU(830)로 RACH Preamble 메시지를 전송한다.
CU(830)는 타겟 DU(820)를 통해서 단말에 랜덤 액세스 절차에 대한 응답 메시지를 전송한다(S830). 예를 들어, 랜덤 액세스 절차에 대한 응담 메시지는 단말(800)이 전송한 RACH 프리앰블에 대한 RACH 응답이 될 수 있다.
필요에 따라, 데이터 베어러 및/또는 플로우 변경이 요구되는 경우, CU(830)는 타겟 DU(820)에 데이터 베어러 및/또는 플로우 수정을 요청을 한다(S840). 이를 위해서, 무선 베어러 정보, 무선 플로우 정보 및 식별자(ID) 정보 중 적어도 하나가 사용된다. 추가적으로 베어러와 플로우 간 변환 및 매핑이 필요한 경우에는 CU(830)에서 이를 수행한다.
타겟 DU(820)는 CU(830)에 데이터 베어러 및/또는 플로우 수정 요청에 대한 응답 메시지를 전송한다(S845).
타겟 DU(820)는 해당 단말(800)에 필요한 무선 자원 할당을 수행한다(S850).
단말(800)은 타겟 DU(820)를 통해서 CU(830)에 DU 간 핸드오버가 완료되었음을 알려준다(S855). 핸드오버 완료와 관련된 정보는 RRC Connection Reconfiguration Complete 메시지에 포함되어 전달될 수 있다.
Inter-DU 핸드오버가 완료되면 소스 DU(810)에 연결된 단말(800)의 무선 자원은 해제된다(S860).
이상에서 설명한 바와 같이, 5G 통신 환경에서는 다양한 전송속도, 신뢰도, 지연도 요구사항과 다양한 서비스들을 안정적으로 제공하기 위해서 많은 수의 가상화 서버 기반의 기지국이 활용되는 경우에도 개방형 기지국 내부 프론트홀 인터페이스 설계를 통해 다른 벤더 CU 및 DU 간 효율적인 연동으로 보다 안정적인 연결성을 제공하고 구축/운용 비용의 절감도 제공하는 효과가 있다.
도 1 내지 도 8을 참조하여 설명한 본 실시예들이 모두 수행될 수 있는 중앙 유닛의 구성을 다시 한 번 간략하게 설명한다.
도 9는 일 실시예에 따른 중앙 유닛의 구조를 설명하기 위한 도면이다.
도 9를 참조하면, 일 실시예에 따른 중아 유닛(900)은 프론트홀(Fronthaul) 인터페이스를 이용하여 중앙 유닛과 연결되는 분산 유닛(Distributed Unit, DU)의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 수신하는 수신부(930)와 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보에 기초하여 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 구성하는 제어부(910) 및 분산 유닛을 통해서 단말로 데이터를 송신하는 송신부(920)를 포함할 수 있다.
전술한 바와 같이, 분산 유닛과 중앙 유닛은 각각 네트워크 기능의 일부 또는 전부를 구성할 수 있으며, 제어부(910)는 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성에 따라 동적으로 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 구성할 수 있다.
한편, 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보는 분산 유닛 타입정보, 분산 유닛 식별정보, 네트워크 기능 식별정보 및 네트워크 기능 세트 식별정보 중 적어도 하나의 정보를 포함할 수 있다.
제어부(910)는 네트워크 기능 또는 네트워크 서브 기능의 활성화 동작을 관리하는 네트워크 기능 관리 개체를 포함할 수도 있다. 또한, 제어부(910)는 프론트홀 인터페이스 네트워크 기능을 이용하여 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛을 연결하는 프론트홀의 대역폭을 산출하여 할당할 수도 있다. 이 외에도, 제어부(910)는 전술한 본 실시예들에 따른 중앙 유닛과 분산 유닛 간의 프론트홀 구간의 연동 인터페이스의 기능을 수행함에 필요한 전반적인 중앙 유닛(900)의 동작을 제어한다.
한편, 수신부(930)는 단말로부터 하나 이상의 분산 유닛에 대한 채널 상태 정보를 더 수신할 수 있다. 이 경우, 제어부(910)는 채널 상태 정보에 기초하여 단말의 분산 유닛 간 핸드오버를 결정하고, 타켓 분산 유닛에 구성된 네트워크 기능 정보에 기초하여 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 재구성할 수도 있다.
이 외에도 송신부(920)와 수신부(930)는 전술한 본 실시예들 수행하기에 필요한 신호나 메시지, 데이터를 단말, 분산 유닛 및 코어망과 송수신하는데 사용된다.

본 특허출원은 2016년 07월 13일 한국에 출원한 특허출원번호 제 10-2016-0088331호에 대해 미국 특허법 119(a)조 (35 U.S.C § 119(a))에 따라 우선권을 주장하며, 그 모든 내용은 참고문헌으로 본 특허출원에 병합된다. 아울러, 본 특허출원은 미국 이외에 국가에 대해서도 위와 동일한 이유로 우선권을 주장하면 그 모든 내용은 참고문헌으로 본 특허출원에 병합된다.

Claims (16)

  1. 중앙 유닛(Central Unit, CU)이 단말과 통신을 수행하는 방법에 있어서,
    프론트홀(Fronthaul) 인터페이스를 이용하여 상기 중앙 유닛과 연결되는 분산 유닛(Distributed Unit, DU)의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 수신하는 단계;
    상기 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보에 기초하여 상기 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 구성하는 단계; 및
    상기 분산 유닛을 통해서 상기 단말로 데이터를 송신하는 단계를 포함하는 방법.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 분산 유닛은,
    RLC, MAC 및 PHY 네트워크 기능 중 적어도 하나의 네트워크 기능을 구성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  3. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 중앙 유닛은,
    RRC, PDCP, RLC 및 MAC 네트워크 기능 중 적어도 하나의 네트워크 기능을 구성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  4. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보는,
    분산 유닛 타입정보, 분산 유닛 식별정보, 네트워크 기능 식별정보 및 네트워크 기능 세트 식별정보 중 적어도 하나의 정보를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  5. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 중앙 유닛 또는 분산 유닛은,
    네트워크 기능 또는 네트워크 서브 기능의 활성화 동작을 관리하는 네트워크 기능 관리 개체를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  6. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 중앙 유닛에 구성되는 프론트홀 인터페이스 네트워크 기능은,
    상기 중앙 유닛과 상기 분산 유닛을 연결하는 프론트홀의 대역폭을 산출하여 할당하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  7. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 단말로부터 하나 이상의 분산 유닛에 대한 채널 상태 정보를 수신하는 단계;
    상기 채널 상태 정보에 기초하여 상기 단말의 분산 유닛 간 핸드오버를 결정하는 단계; 및
    타켓 분산 유닛에 구성된 네트워크 기능 정보에 기초하여 상기 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 재구성하는 단계를 더 포함하는 방법.
  8. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 중앙 유닛은,
    상기 중앙 유닛과 코어망 간 백홀 인터페이스 처리 기능을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  9. 단말과 통신을 수행하는 중앙 유닛(Central Unit, CU)에 있어서,
    프론트홀(Fronthaul) 인터페이스를 이용하여 상기 중앙 유닛과 연결되는 분산 유닛(Distributed Unit, DU)의 네트워크 기능 구성정보를 수신하는 수신부;
    상기 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보에 기초하여 상기 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 구성하는 제어부; 및
    상기 분산 유닛을 통해서 상기 단말로 데이터를 송신하는 송신부를 포함하는 중앙 유닛.
  10. 제 9 항에 있어서,
    상기 분산 유닛은,
    RLC, MAC 및 PHY 네트워크 기능 중 적어도 하나의 네트워크 기능을 구성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 중앙 유닛.
  11. 제 9 항에 있어서,
    상기 중앙 유닛은,
    RRC, PDCP, RLC 및 MAC 네트워크 기능 중 적어도 하나의 네트워크 기능을 구성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 중앙 유닛.
  12. 제 9 항에 있어서,
    상기 분산 유닛의 네트워크 기능 구성정보는,
    분산 유닛 타입정보, 분산 유닛 식별정보, 네트워크 기능 식별정보 및 네트워크 기능 세트 식별정보 중 적어도 하나의 정보를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 중앙 유닛.
  13. 제 9 항에 있어서,
    상기 중앙 유닛 또는 분산 유닛은,
    네트워크 기능 또는 네트워크 서브 기능의 활성화 동작을 관리하는 네트워크 기능 관리 개체를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 중앙 유닛.
  14. 제 9 항에 있어서,
    상기 중앙 유닛에 구성되는 프론트홀 인터페이스 네트워크 기능은,
    상기 중앙 유닛과 상기 분산 유닛을 연결하는 프론트홀의 대역폭을 산출하여 할당하는 것을 특징으로 하는 중앙 유닛.
  15. 제 9 항에 있어서,
    상기 수신부는, 상기 단말로부터 하나 이상의 분산 유닛에 대한 채널 상태 정보를 수신하고,
    상기 제어부는,
    상기 채널 상태 정보에 기초하여 상기 단말의 분산 유닛 간 핸드오버를 결정하며,
    타켓 분산 유닛에 구성된 네트워크 기능 정보에 기초하여 상기 중앙 유닛의 네트워크 기능을 재구성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 중앙 유닛.
  16. 제 9 항에 있어서,
    상기 제어부는,
    상기 중앙 유닛과 코어망 간 백홀 인터페이스 처리를 수행하는 것을 특징으로 하는 중앙 유닛.
