Abstract

The present invention relates to a laundry washer-dryer (1) comprising a drum (2) wherein the laundry is placed, a tub (3) wherein the drum (2) moves, a detergent dispenser (4) wherein cleaning agents such as detergent, softener, etc. are placed, a discharge pipe (6) that extends from the base of the detergent dispenser (4) to the tub (3) and that has a water outlet port (5) at the lower end thereof, and an elastic water inlet hose (7) that is disposed between the tub (3) and the discharge pipe (6) and that enables the water sent from the detergent dispenser (4) by means of the discharge pipe (6) to enter the tub (3).

Description

A LAUNDRY WASHER-DRYER WHEREIN THE STEAM LEAKAGE TO THE OUTER ENVIRONMENT IS PREVENTED
The present invention relates to a laundry washer-dryer wherein the steam generated during the washing and drying of the laundry is prevented from reaching the detergent dispenser and the outer environment.
In the state of the art laundry washer-dryer (1'), cleaning agents such as detergent, softener in the detergent dispenser (4') are delivered together with water to the tub (3') by means of a U-shaped discharge pipe (6') connected to the detergent dispenser (4') outlet and an elastic water inlet hose. In some embodiments, the U shape of the discharge pipe (6') is referred to as "camel neck", "swan neck" or "water trap". By trapping water at the bend portion of the U shape of the discharge pipe (6'), the steam generated while washing, especially drying process is carried out in the tub (3') is prevented from reaching the detergent dispenser (4') and therefrom to the outer environment. Thus, the environment such as bath, etc. wherein the laundry washer-dryer (1) is installed is prevented from getting heavy with moist. The said U-shaped discharge pipe (6') is required to be designed at different sizes according to various laundry washer-dryer (1') models, thus increasing mold costs in production. The discharge pipe (6') occupies much space in the body of the laundry washer-dryer (1') and gets abraded by rubbing against the tub (3'), thus causing water or steam leaks in the course of time.
In the German Utility Model Document No. DE102011053950, a U-shaped discharge pipe that is disposed between the detergent dispenser and the tub in a washing machine is disclosed.
The aim of the present invention is the realization of a laundry washer-dryer having a water-trap apparatus that prevents the steam generated during the washing and drying of the laundry from reaching the detergent dispenser and the outer environment.
The laundry washer-dryer realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is explicated in the claims.
The laundry washer-dryer comprises a straight discharge pipe that extends from the base of the detergent dispenser to the tub and that is produced from hard plastic, preferably as a single piece with the detergent dispenser. Water is transferred from the detergent dispenser to the tub by means of the discharge pipe and an elastic water inlet hose connected to the tub and a water-trap apparatus is disposed between the water outlet port at the lower side of the discharge pipe and the water inlet hose. The water-trap apparatus comprises a reservoir wherein the water outlet port is inserted. The water collected in the reservoir serves as a barrier that prevents steam passage from the tub to the detergent dispenser in washing and especially drying process.
The water-trap apparatus occupies less space in the laundry washer-dryer than the state of the art U-shaped designs. The production of the water-trap apparatus is easy and cost-effective, and water-trap the apparatus completely eliminates the steam leakage risk.
The laundry washer-dryer realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
Figure 1 - is the perspective view of a discharge pipe in the form of a camel neck that provides passage water from the detergent dispenser to the tub in a state of the art laundry washer-dryer.
Figure 2 - is the schematic view of a water-trap apparatus disposed between the detergent dispenser and the tub in the laundry washer-dryer of the present invention.

The laundry washer-dryer (1) comprises a drum (2) wherein the laundry is placed, a tub (3) wherein the drum (2) moves, a detergent dispenser (4) wherein cleaning agents such as detergent, softener, etc. are placed, a discharge pipe (6) that extends from the base of the detergent dispenser (4) to the tub (3) and that has a water outlet port (5) at the lower end thereof, and an elastic water inlet hose (7) that is disposed between the tub (3) and the discharge pipe (6) and that enables the water sent from the detergent dispenser (4) by means of the discharge pipe (6) to enter the tub (3).
The laundry washer-dryer (1) of the present invention comprises a water-trap apparatus (9) that is disposed between the detergent dispenser (4) and the tub (3), that has a reservoir (8) wherein a certain amount of water is collected preventing steam passage from the tub (3) to the detergent dispenser (4), and that is connected between the discharge pipe (6) and the water inlet hose (7) so that the water outlet port (5) remains below the level of the water collected in the reservoir (8).
In the laundry washer-dryer (1), the water taken from the mains is sent to the detergent dispenser (4) during the washing process, and the water sweeping the cleaning agents in the detergent dispenser (4) is sent to the tub (3). A small portion of the water leaving the detergent dispenser (4) through the water outlet port (5) by means of the discharge pipe (6) is collected in the reservoir (8) of the water-trap apparatus (9). Since the water outlet port (5) is submerged into the water collected in the reservoir (9), the water in the reservoir (8) creates a barrier against the steam generated during the washing-drying processes and raising from the tub (3) towards the detergent dispenser (4). Thus, the steam is prevented from reaching the detergent dispenser (4) and hence from dispersing in the environment wherein the laundry washer-dryer (1) is installed.
The water-trap apparatus (9) comprises a cylindrical body (10) wherein the reservoir (8) is concentrically disposed, at least one rib (11) that extends radially between the reservoir (8) and the body (10) and that connects the reservoir (8) to the body (10), and at least one water flow path (12) that is arranged between the reservoir (8) and the body (10) and that enables the water filling the reservoir (8) during the water transfer from the detergent dispenser (4) to the tub (3) to overflow from the side wall of the reservoir (8) so as to continue flowing.
By means of the reservoir (8) wherein the water outlet port (5) is submerged, the water-trap apparatus (9) creates a water barrier against the steam raising from the tub (3) towards the detergent dispenser (4), thus eliminating the risk of steam leakage. The water leaving the detergent dispenser (4) is directly delivered from the detergent dispenser (4) to the tub (3) without changing its flow direction, thus the flow path is shortened. The water-trap apparatus (9) of the present invention occupies less space than the state of the art U-shaped designs.

Claims (2)

  1. A laundry washer-dryer (1) comprising a drum (2) wherein the laundry is placed, a tub (3) wherein the drum (2) moves, a detergent dispenser (4) wherein cleaning agents are placed, a discharge pipe (6) that extends from the base of the detergent dispenser (4) to the tub (3) and that has a water outlet port (5) at the lower end thereof, and an elastic water inlet hose (7) that is disposed between the tub (3) and the discharge pipe (6) and that enables the water sent from the detergent dispenser (4) by means of the discharge pipe (6) to enter the tub (3), characterized by a water-trap apparatus (9) that is disposed between the detergent dispenser (4) and the tub (3), that has a reservoir (8) wherein a certain amount of water is collected preventing steam passage from the tub (3) to the detergent dispenser (4), and that is connected between the discharge pipe (6) and the water inlet hose (7) so that the water outlet port (5) remains below the level of the water collected in the reservoir (8).

A laundry washer-dryer (1) as in Claim 1, characterized by the water-trap apparatus (9) comprising a cylindrical body (10) wherein the reservoir (8) is concentrically disposed, at least one rib (11) that extends radially between the reservoir (8) and the body (10) and that connects the reservoir (8) to the body (10), and at least one water flow path (12) that is arranged between the reservoir (8) and the body (10) and that enables the water filling the reservoir (8) during the water transfer from the detergent dispenser (4) to the tub (3) to overflow from the side wall of the reservoir (8) so as to continue flowing.
