Dispositif d'identification d'objet
Résumé
Un objet de l'invention est de simplifier le processus de design et de production d'un objet physique facilement identifiable, en particulier en cas d'interaction avec un écran. Pour cela, l'objet est fabriqué avec au moins une matière pluri-matériaux (a minima deux), ces matériaux ayant des propriétés physiques différentes. Les matériaux utilisés étant ceux dédiés à l'imprimerie tridimensionnelle (3D), ils sont disponibles à moindre coût et permettent de réaliser facilement un objet tangible pouvant être identifié par un dispositif numérique.

Art antérieur
Il existe de nombreuses technologies différentes mises en oeuvre au cœur d'un dispositif numérique interactif. Il est possible de citer par exemple les caméras infrarouges ou les capteurs à effet Hall.
L'exemple de la Reactable créée à l'université Pompeu Fabra de Barcelone en Espagne permet d'illustrer l'utilisation de caméras pour permettre l'interaction entre un objet tangible et un dispositif numérique. En effet, cette interface utilise la reconnaissance optique d'un code placé sous l'objet tangible pour modifier les composantes d'un synthétiseur modulaire. Une limitation de cette technique est liée au fait de n'utiliser qu'une seule technologie pour permettre l'interaction. Une autre possibilité d'interaction entre des objets tangibles et des dispositifs numériques est liée à l'utilisation d'écrans tactiles dont le fonctionnement diffère en fonction de la technologie. L'une des technologies disponible est la technologie résistive : les systèmes sont constitués d'une plaque de verre dont la surface est conductrice, recouverte par un film plastique dont la face du dessous est également conductrice. Un courant électrique est induit entre ces deux faces et la pression exercée par l'utilisateur avec la pointe d'un stylet ou un doigt amorce un contact entre celles-ci. La variation des champs électriques de ces faces conductrices permet de déterminer la position du point de contact. Une autre technologie disponible est la technologie infrarouge. Celle-ci est rendue possible grâce à la présence d'un réseau de capteurs à rayonnement infrarouge sur la surface. Un contact réalisé par un utilisateur crée une interruption d'un de ces faisceaux qui est alors localisée. Des appareils composés d'écrans utilisant la technologie capacitive sont très nombreux et couramment exploités sur les téléphones portables ou les tablettes. Leur utilisation est variable, ils permettent aussi bien se divertir, de s'instruire ou de simplifier la vie courante. Cette technologie est basée sur une couche accumulant les charges, placée sur une plaque de verre. Lorsque l'utilisateur touche la plaque avec son doigt, un transfert de charge est effectué. Les capteurs placés dans les coins de la plaque permettent de mesurer et de déterminer la position du point de contact. L'utilisateur n'est pas réduit à utiliser un ou plusieurs doigts pour interagir avec un appareil à écran capacitif. En effet, plusieurs brevets ont récemment été publiés décrivant la possibilité d'interaction médiée par un objet tangible dont une partie est conductrice.
Ainsi, le brevet US 2011/0095992 de Y. Yeh expose des outils permettant l'utilisation d'écran tactile. Ces outils nécessitent, pour fonctionner avec un écran capacitif, d'inclure une surface de contact avec l'utilisateur qui soit conductrice. Cette surface est connectée à une pluralité de points de contacts protubérants sur la face inférieure de l'objet. Ces points de contact également conducteurs sont reliés à la surface de contact par l'intermédiaire d'un matériau lui aussi conducteur. Les points de contact protubérants sont disposés de manière à former un motif géométrique permettant la reconnaissance de l'objet par l'appareil possédant l'écran tactile.
Le brevet WO 2014/093770 de R. Milne divulgue une méthode ayant pour but d'améliorer l'expérience de l'utilisateur en utilisant un objet tangible avec un écran tactile. Cet objet tangible est l'assemblage de trois pièces dont la partie centrale est conductrice et possède des protubérances sur la face inférieure de l'objet. Les points de contact résultants sont disposés de manière particulière afin que le motif formé soit détecté par la méthode revendiquée. Par la suite, la méthode reconnaît le motif au sein d'une base de données pour identifier l'objet associé au motif présenté. Enfin, un résultat conséquent à cette reconnaissance est fourni par l'appareil. Ce résultat peut être visuel ou audible.
Le brevet WO 2012/095587 de B. Duplat décrit un dispositif de reconnaissance d'une famille de figurines conductrices possédant comme signature une grille de picots sur un écran capacitif. Il propose de déterminer l'identité de la figurine en contact avec un écran capacitif en se limitant à une grille de picots conducteurs dans laquelle les picots sont répartis en triangle isocèle sur un cercle identique à toutes les figurines.
Problème / Solution
Tous les objets décrits dans l'art antérieur possèdent une ou plusieurs parties supplémentaires pour satisfaire à l'exigence de conductivité nécessaire à l'utilisation d'un écran capacitif. Ainsi, les objets doivent être fabriqués en incluant des protubérances conductrices sur leur face intérieure reliées à la zone de préhension par un matériau également conducteur qui traverse généralement l'objet de part en part. Ceci ajoute non seulement un coût ainsi qu'une complexité non négligeable lors de la fabrication des pièces, mais des contraintes objectives aux plans esthétique et ergonomique. Enfin, l'ajout de protubérances à la base de l'objet implique une parallaxe due à l'épaisseur de la partie conductrice, qui peut perturber l'utilisateur dans son activité. Un objet de l'invention est de simplifier le processus de design et de production d'un objet physique facilement identifiable, en particulier en cas d'interaction avec un écran. Description détaillée
Dans la description suivante, il est considéré qu'un objet est constitué d'une ou plusieurs parties, que chaque partie est constituée d'une ou plusieurs matières, et que chaque matière est constituée d'un ou plusieurs matériaux. Dans un aspect principal, l'invention propose que l'objet tangible soit entièrement réalisé en un seul bloc à l'aide d'une seule matière composée d'au moins deux matériaux dédiés à l'imprimerie 3D aux propriétés physiques différentes. Ces propriétés peuvent être par exemple : optique, électrique ou magnétique. Un des avantages de l'invention est la possibilité pour tout utilisateur de créer l'objet voulu à partir d'outils qui sont d'ores et déjà accessibles et à terme, dont chacun pourra disposer. Un avantage complémentaire qui en découle est de permettre l'identification d'un unique même objet tangible par différentes capteurs (écrans tactiles, caméra infrarouge, capteur à effet Hall, ...). Dans un aspect alternatif de l'invention, l'objet tangible est fabriqué en plusieurs parties, l'une au moins desdites parties étant constituée d'une matière composée d'au moins deux matériaux aux propriétés physiques distinctes.
Ainsi, dans un aspect complémentaire de l'invention, l'un des matériaux de la matière utilisée pour réaliser l'objet tangible est conducteur. Lorsque l'utilisateur applique l'objet avec sa main contre un écran capacitif, il permet au transfert de charges d'être effectué et donc à l'objet d'interagir directement avec l'écran. Il est alors possible de créer des motifs différents en fonction des zones conductrices ou non qui affleurent la surface inférieure de l'objet. Ces objets seront alors identifiés distinctement par le dispositif de reconnaissance utilisé. Dans un autre aspect de l'invention, pouvant se combiner ou non avec le précédent, la matière de l'objet tangible comprend plusieurs matériaux différents dont au moins un réfléchit de façon plus intense les infrarouges en comparaison aux autres matériaux utilisés de telle sorte que des dispositifs bien connus de reconnaissance vidéo puissent facilement segmenter les différentes régions de l'objet en fonction de l'intensité perçue.
Une possibilité supplémentaire de l'invention est d'avoir à la surface de contact dudit objet tangible un code qui soit invisible à l'œil. Ceci est rendu possible par l'aspect visuel identique de matériaux ayant les propriétés physiques permettant leur reconnaissance et des matériaux ne possédant pas ces propriétés. Ainsi, dans un mode de réalisation de l'invention, la matière de l'objet tangible est composée à la fois de matériaux conducteur et non conducteur de couleur noire, ce qui permet une identification uniquement par un écran capacitif possédant le dispositif de reconnaissance adéquat. Ceci crée un niveau de sécurité puisque la reproduction du code est ainsi limitée et par conséquent la duplication de l'objet l'est également.
Un autre avantage de l'invention est de pouvoir utiliser des méthodes internationales telles que les codes d'identification multidimensionnels. Ceux-ci se présentent sous la forme de symboles carrés ou rectangulaires constitués de carrés noirs et blancs juxtaposés. Ces codes permettent de représenter une quantité importante d'information sur une surface réduite. Parmi les exemples les plus connus, il est possible de citer le QR code, le code datamatrix, le code Aztec, le Maxi code ou encore le code 49. II est ainsi possible d'utiliser ces codes à la surface inférieure d'objets capacitifs afin de codifier et d'identifier ces objets de manière complexe. Ces codes permettent à des systèmes et/ou unités de traitement existants de décoder le motif perçu pour en obtenir un identifiant précis. Avantageusement, la plupart de ces codes permet de capter tant l'identifiant, la position que l'orientation en 2 ou 3 dimensions de l'objet tangible associé. Réalisée en continu et en temps réel, cette reconnaissance permet de connaître à tout instant la position et l'orientation du ou des objets tangibles compris dans le champ d'action d'un dispositif numérique équipé des dispositifs adéquats.
De nombreux objets tangibles peuvent également être réalisés en un objet comprenant trois matériaux dont un matériau principal d'une couleur sombre et non conducteur, un matériau de couleur sombre et conducteur, un matériau de couleur claire et non conducteur. La distribution de ces matériaux à la surface et au travers de l'objet tangible selon les codes bien connus et rappelés ci-dessus permet l'exploitation d'un unique objet sur des surfaces capacitives comme infrarouges. Avantageusement, l'objet tangible peut présenter plusieurs surfaces planes dont chacune peut être mise en contact avec la surface interactive, chacune des surfaces de contact présentant une distribution de matériaux à même de créer des codes d'identification spécifiques permettant au système de reconnaissance d'identifier non seulement l'objet tangible mais également la face de l'objet en contact avec la surface.
Avantageusement, certaines caractéristiques des matériaux constituant l'objet (par exemple optiques) peuvent également être identifiées à distance (dans ce cas, par une caméra extérieure), permettant ainsi à l'objet tangible d'être détecté lors d'un contact avec la surface et/ou dans l'espace sans support particulier par un dispositif de reconnaissance et/ou positionnement extérieur.

Cette règle peut être utilisée avec n'importe quel écran tactile. Dans un exemple préféré de l'invention, elle est fabriquée avec une matière composée de deux matériaux de couleur noire, l'un étant conducteur 02 et l'autre non conducteur. La figure 2 représente une coupe (haut) selon l'axe l-ll et la surface inférieure (bas) de la règle 01. Dans un exemple préféré de l'invention, le matériau 02 est conducteur et permet le transfert de charge entre l'utilisateur qui applique la règle 01 et l'écran capacitif 03. Il apparaît clairement sur la figure 3 que cette réalisation permet à l'objet capacitif 01 d'être directement appliqué contre l'écran tactile 03 et évite ainsi tout problème de parallaxe, tout en assurant la compatibilité avec les systèmes interactifs détectant la silhouette générale de l'objet tangible en contact.
Exemples de réalisation
Tampon : cet objet en forme de cône creux possède une surface en contact avec l'écran capacitif matérialisé par un cercle. Le code permettant la reconnaissance de cet objet est disposé sur le cercle. L'utilisateur peut tenir l'objet par le sommet du cône et s'en servir comme d'un tampon. Ce tampon peut servir à déplacer un marqueur sur un écran capacitif. Un simple mouvement de rotation va par exemple actionner ce marqueur ou verrouiller sa position.
Règle : cet objet de forme rectangulaire réalisé en matière conductrice permet d'afficher sur un écran relié à la surface tactile un outil permettant de mesurer la distance entre deux points. Avantageusement, la détection de l'objet tangible étant réalisée en temps réel (i.e. la position et l'orientation de la règle sur la surface interactive sont connues à tout moment), les éléments numériques affichés sur la surface interactive peuvent suivre l'icône tangible et être mis à jour en fonction de ladite icône. En particulier, notamment grâce à la parallaxe réduite en application de l'invention, la règle peut disposer de fentes au travers desquelles apparaissent des graduations et unités de mesures y seraient ajustées en fonction de l'état de l'application affichée par la surface interactive. Code barre : une réalisation de l'invention consiste à disposer sous forme de code barre ou d'un code multidimensionnel, le matériau de la partie de la matière ayant la propriété physique permettant son identification sur la surface de contact de l'objet de manière à obtenir un code très spécifique permettant la reconnaissance d'un objet unique. Ainsi que décrit précédemment, la surface de contact est d'une seule couleur noire mais composée de deux matériaux différents, l'un réfléchissant intensément les infrarouges et l'autre non. Ainsi la surface de contact semble uniforme à l'œil mais permet l'identification de l'objet auquel elle est associée. Le but des exemples décrits ici est de mieux comprendre l'invention. Ils ne sont en aucun cas une limitation. L'homme du métier pourra aisément modifier ou améliorer ces applications sans sortir de la portée de l'invention.
L'invention décrite dans ce document est issue de travaux partiellement soutenus par la Commission Européenne dans le contexte du 7e programme-cadre sous la convention de subvention Magellan numéro 611526.

Claims

Objet tangible destiné à être identifié par un dispositif numérique, caractérisé en ce que ledit objet tangible est composé d'au moins une partie, ladite au moins une partie étant constituée d'au moins une matière, ladite au moins une matière étant composée d'au moins deux matériaux aux propriétés physiques distinctes, ladite au moins une matière étant obtenue par imprimerie tridimensionnelle. Objet tangible selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce qu'au moins un des matériaux constituant ladite matière est conducteur. Objet tangible selon l'une des revendications 1 ou 2, caractérisé en ce qu'au moins un des matériaux constituant ladite matière est détectable par infrarouge.
Objet tangible selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce qu'un matériau constituant ladite matière ne réfléchit pas ou peu la lumière et est non conducteur, un matériau constituant ladite matière ne réfléchit pas ou peu la lumière et est conducteur, et un matériau constituant ladite matière réfléchit la lumière et est non conducteur.
Objet tangible selon l'une des revendications précédentes, caractérisé en ce que la distribution des matériaux constituant ladite matière reproduit un code d'identification multidimensionnel.
Objet tangible selon la revendication 5 caractérisé en ce que ledit code est intégré à au moins une surface dudit objet qui soit plane et puisse être mise en contact avec une surface interactive.
Objet tangible selon la revendication 5 ou 6 caractérisé en ce que la géométrie de l'objet et la distribution des au moins deux matériaux permettent la reconnaissance de l'objet par des surfaces interactives exploitant des technologies tactiles respectives.
Objet tangible selon l'une des revendications précédentes dans lequel des trous ou fentes dans l'objet permettent la visualisation d'informations numériques au travers de l'objet lorsque celui-ci est posé et détecté par une surface interactive.
Objet tangible selon la revendication précédente de type règle, caractérisé en ce que la surface plane permette de poser ledit objet sur une surface interactive et que les fentes dans ladite règle laissent apparaître les informations de distance et de mesure.
