Abstract
The invention refers to the process of installing wall and ceiling panels made of composites in the boat's interior. It comprises determining the panel geometry using 3D computer models or digital scanners, cutting the panels using a computer-guided machine and covering the visible panel surfaces with fabric, determining the area of adhesive application and making templates for positioning the adhesive or Velcro tape application, the process of mounting fixed panels with adhesive agents and double-sided tape or mounting removable panels with Velcro tape and positioning the panels using spacers.
Description
The process of mounting boat panels
The object of the invention
The object of the invention is the process of mounting wall and ceiling panels made of composites in the boat's interior, i.e. in monohull sailing boats of the sloop variety. The panels are made of poplar, okoume plywood or plastic boards. Panels made from a plastic material are usually found in bathrooms. The most common thickness of the panels is 6 to 8 mm. The panels are dressed in leather or fabric where necessary. The panels are used for covering untreated surfaces and installations. Covering surfaces with panels is fast and simple. This process includes determining the areas for adhesive and Velcro tape application, mounting the Velcro tape and then positioning the panels.
Technical problem
As the panels have an aesthetic function, the installation must be done perfectly, with no visible fittings or screws. If the panels cover any important system components, they must be removable. The technical problem in this process is determining the areas for adhesive and Velcro tape applications, as the surface for application is not visible. The results of incorrectly positioning of the adhesive or Velcro tape are imperfect connections between the surfaces that are glued together. When gluing the panels to the surface, the panels must be fastened during the hardening period to prevent them from moving or falling out of position.
Prior art
The problem of covering untreated surfaces and installations is present in every boat and represents a technical and aesthetic problem. Covering surfaces with wooden boards is time- consuming and difficult. Inserting screws is an aesthetic problem, especially when the working surfaces must not be damaged.
Description of the invention
The above technical problem is solved by the claimed invention. The process of mounting or fitting the panels according to the invention is made up of the following steps:
- Determination of the geometry of the panels using 3D computer models or a digital scanner. The panels are then cut on a computer-guided machine. On complex surfaces, the pre-cut panels are checked for their correspondence with the surface and are adjusted in shape if needed, before further treatment.
- Covering the panels in fabric or treating the surface of the visible prepared panels. The fabric is glued to the panels with synthetic rubber adhesive and additionally fixed with staples on the inner, invisible side of the panel.
Determining the positions of the areas for applying adhesive on the contact surfaces to which the panels will be fixed and making the templates for the positioning of the panels on these surfaces. The contact surfaces are sub-assemblies to which the panels are fixed. The surface shape of the panel is defined by the shape of the sub-assembly. The sub-assembly is usually made of plywood panels or glass fibre and polyester resin. PU-based adhesive and sealing agent are used for installing fixed panels, whereas Velcro tape is used for installing removable panels. Adhesive or Velcro tape, depending on whether the panel is fixed or removable, is accurately positioned into place on contact surfaces with templates. The position plan for the adhesive or Velcro tape is determined in accordance with the geometry of the contact surface. The positions are then transferred onto a transparent film, which is used as a template.
- Mounting fixed panels with adhesive and sealing agents and double-sided tape, or mounting removable panels with Velcro tape, fastened with staples on wooden surfaces and primer on hard surfaces. When mounting a fixed panel in one piece, the adhesive and sealing agents are applied from top to bottom of the contact surface in strips. When gluing with adhesive and sealing agents, the agent is applied only on the marked contact surfaces. When mounting the panels with adhesive and sealing agents
it is necessary to prevent the panel from moving out of place. The panel can be additionally held into place using 1 mm thick double-sided tape. When mounting removable panels, the Velcro tape is taped to the plywood plate surfaces and attached with staples. The contact surface of solid materials, e.g. plastic or metal, should be first cleaned with acetone, coated with primer to improve adhesion and taped with Velcro tape. In case the installation plan includes spaces between the panel connections, the spacers may be used to define the space dimensions. Spacers are made of plywood panels and have rounded edges.
Claims
1. The process of mounting wall and ceiling panels in the boat's interior, i.e. in monohull ships made of composites, where the panels are made of poplar, okoume plywood or plastic boards and the board thickness is between 6 and 8 mm and the panels are covered in leather or fabric where necessary, characterized in that it includes the following steps:
- determining the panel geometry using a digital scanner or a 3D computer model and cutting the panel with a computer-guided machine;
- covering the visible surfaces of the panel with fabric or leather;
- determining the positions of the areas for adhesive application and making the positioning templates; mounting fixed panels with adhesive and sealing agents and double-sided tape, or mounting removable panels with Velcro tape, fastened with staples on wooden surfaces and primer on hard surfaces;
- using spacers to determine the spaces between the panels.
2. The process according to claim 1, characterized in that when mounting a panel in one piece with the contact surface, the adhesive is applied in strips over the entire surface.
3. The process according to claim 1, characterized in that when the panels are mounted on specific places, the adhesive or Velcro tape adhesive is applied with templates and the position plan is determined based on the geometry of the contact surface whereby the position is then transferred to a transparent film, used as a template.
4. The process according to claim 1, characterized in that when mounting panels with adhesive and sealing agents, the agent is applied in spots only on the marked contact surfaces.
