Abstract
The invention relates to the field of non-ferrous metallurgy, and more particularly to the production of aluminium by the electrolysis of molten salts, and even more particularly to the design of a cathode section for an aluminium electrolytic cell. The cathode section for an aluminium electrolytic cell comprises a carbon cathode block and a current-conducting cathode rod, provided with an electrically conductive part made from a high-conductivity material, which is mounted in the inner cavity of the carbon cathode block and is fastened therein with the aid of a cast iron filler. The electrically conductive part is in the form of an insert which is comprised of individual components, fastened together with clearance therebetween, and is mounted on one or more outer surfaces of the current-conducting cathode rod via a layer of cast iron filler. The individual components of the insert may have a round, rectangular or other type of cross-section. The inserts may be mounted over 10% to 100% of the length of the current-conducting cathode rod. The cathode section reduces voltage drop in the cathode block. Furthermore, the invention provides for low electrical contact resistance between the current-conducting cathode rod and the high-conductivity electrically conductive insert over the entire length of the current-conducting cathode rod.
Description
CATHODE SECTION OF ALUMINUM ELECTROLYZER
The invention relates to the field of non-ferrous metallurgy, in particular to the production of aluminum by electrolysis of molten salts, in particular, to the design of the cathode section of an aluminum electrolyzer.
The cathode section, usually made of a coal block and steel bloom, which is fixed in the groove of the carbon-containing cathode block using electrically conductive cast iron material.
С 25 С 3/08, 1986г.). A known cathode section of an aluminum electrolyzer, including a cathode carbon block with a cathode current-conducting rod fixed in it by means of cast iron, which is made in the form of two elements of the same cross section rigidly interconnected, and the part of the rod located under the anode is made of copper, and the outer part is from steel (patent SU 1260412, microliters C 25 C 3/08, 1986).
One of the main disadvantages of this technical solution is that the copper part of the cathode current-carrying rod does not have a continuous protective sheath that impedes the access of air and oxidation of copper at high temperatures, in addition, the strength of copper decreases significantly with increasing temperature. All of the above leads to an increase in contact resistance "carbon block - cathode current-carrying rod" and, accordingly, will lead to an increase in voltage drop in the cathode of the electrolyzer.
Another disadvantage of the invention is the difficulties arising in the creation of the connection “copper part - steel part” of the cathode current-carrying rod with an acceptable level of voltage drop in it, since the problems associated with the difference in the thermal expansion coefficients of copper and steel, high oxidizability and low strength of copper at temperatures close to the working temperature of electrolysis and high temperature of the area of the connection of copper and steel, do not allow to obtain a good connection.
US 2846388, US 3551319, RU J4« 2303654. Similar disadvantages have cathodic current-carrying rods according to the patents US 2846388, US 3551319, RU J4 "2303654.
The closest to the invention in terms of technical nature and the effect achieved is a technical solution for cathode current-carrying rods installed in the groove of the carbon-containing cathode block of the cathode device of an aluminum electrolyzer, including a metal rod (steel) with an internal cavity and an insert made of a material with high electrical conductivity (copper), mounted in the internal cavity with the possibility of electrical contact with the rod. The inner cavity in the cathode current-carrying rod is made from the side of its inner end and does not reach the outer end, and has a polygonal profile or a round profile in cross section (patent RUN ° 2239007). The main disadvantages of the known invention include technological difficulties in the manufacture of the inner cavity for the liner and the liner in the cathode current-carrying rod, since to create good electrical contact along the entire length of the cathode current-carrying rod, high precision machining is required, or complex technological equipment for pressing the copper core is required into a steel current-carrying rod, which causes difficulties in ensuring good electrical contact at a temperature of todnogo rod ~ 850 ~ 960 ° C.
The proposed design is complemented by private distinctive features that contribute to the improvement of the specified technical result.
Individual elements of the insert can be made round, rectangular or other type of section.
The inserts can be installed in lengths from 10% to 100% of the length of the cathode current-carrying rod.
