Abstract

A method and apparatus are provided for automatically activating an in-flight mode on a user equipment on board a plane, the user equipment including a motion detector. The method includes receiving at the user equipment a take-off time for the plane, starting the monitoring of the motion detector based on the take- off time, and stopping the monitoring of the motion detector when its readings do not match a take-off signature after a preset time from the start of the monitoring.
