Abstract

Variator balls and methods of manufacturing variator balls are disclosed. Certain methods include projection welding or friction welding a main portion of a spherical body having by a first flat portion to a first axle half shaft, and projection welding or friction welding the main portion of the spherical body having by a second flat portion to a second axle half shaft to form a variator ball. Alternative methods of forming the variator ball includes coupling the main portion of the spherical body to the axle shaft using interference fit processes.
