Description
Single-head drilling machine.
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a machine for woodworking.
More in particular, a machine according to the present invention is a single-head drilling machine of the type that can be used for executing multiple holes simultaneously on wooden elements destined, for example, to the realization of modular furniture.
A single-head drilling machine in accordance with the present invention is designed with an electronically programmable system of drilling and tooling to improve the quality of drilling and to reduce the machine setup time.
The drilling unit is entirely driven electrically, and then the operation and the related work cycles do not depend on a pneumatic system as traditional machines.
The drives consist of electric actuators with digital meters providing a simple and correct display of values on the displays located on a front ergonomic control panel.
The drilling system has been designed with the motor placed at the center of the drilling head to distribute to the spindles a homogeneous workload and for an optimum weight balance.
The drilling unit is composed of a head body, a head support, a head slide and a comb. The drilling head includes cylindrical spindles with quick couplers for a fast and accurate insertion of the bit-holding bushes.
The cylindrical shape of the spindles implies a
greater precision of the coupling between the bit- holding bushes and the spindles.
The selection of the drill bit length and the setting of the drilling parameters are electronically controlled and displayed on the displays located on the front control panel.
The support of the drilling head integrates the drive of the drilling head height adjusting and the fastening flange of the motor, thus providing a more cohesive and compact geometry for reducing clearance and eliminating any possible bending of the motor shaft. The head slide is installed on recirculatng ball bearing for a greater drilling precision and a minimum friction between the moving parts; in addition, the drilling system is actuated by an electric actuator providing cutting parameters customized according to the type of machining required .
The movement of the drilling group by means of an electric actuator ensures a drilling operation at constant speed and thus higher quality of the final product .
The comb supports the drilling group which is rotated at angles of 0°-90 ° and for intermediate angles via electronic system with display of operating parameters on the display located on the front control panel. This system provides a fast and accurate tilting of the drilling group at intermediate or customized angles.
The system of electric pressing is operated by an electronic control providing a faster machine tooling and a better clamping of the work piece, thus ensuring a higher quality of the drilling.
All electronic controls are placed and displayed on the displays on the front control panel.
The present drilling machine has the work plane, the pressing group, and the rear stopping group in a single integral structure. This allows to increase the quality and the working precision of these elements of the machine.

- fig.8 is a schematic exploded view of the machine illustrated in the previous figures;
- fig.9 is a simplified block diagram relating to a possible control system of a machine according to the present invention.
Reduced to its essential structure and with reference to the accompanying drawings, a mono-drilling head for woodworking in accordance with the present invention comprises:
- a supporting structure (1) on which is formed a working plane (10) at a predetermined height with respect to a base portion (11) of the same structure that has a front side or operator side (12) and a rear side (13), with adjustable lateral stops (14) on both sides of said plane (10) and rear stops (18) adjustable by means of crank screw (19) mounted behind the plane (10) ;
- an operating head (2) having a box-like structure with a front side (20) and a rear side (21 which), on its front side, has a plurality of spindles (22) , arranged with their respective axes parallel to each other and coplanar, that is, oriented perpendicularly to a surface which delimits the front side (20) of the head (2), on each of which can be inserted a drilling tool (23) ;
- an electric motor (3) acting simultaneously on all spindles (22) via a transmission located inside the structure of the operating head (2) (transmission not visible in the drawings) , placed in a central position on the rear side (21) of the operating head (2) and mounted on a slide (30) which, in turn, runs on an underlying support element (31), said in jargon "comb" because provided with recesses (32) parallel
to the axes of the spindles (22) which confer to this element the shape of a comb, hinged on a horizontal axis (xx) on the two sides (15) of the structure (1);
- means for adjusting the position of the motor (3) and the head (2) integral with it with respect to the comb (31), with an electric linear actuator (4) arranged and acting between the slide (30) and the comb (31) and connected with respective control means (not visible in the drawings) : by means of the actuator (4), the slide (30) is advanced or retracted on the comb (31) thus adjusting, by program, the position of the head (2 ) and then of the spindles (22) with respect to the comb (31) according to the specific drillings to be executed;
- a second electric linear actuator (5) controllable by program, placed inside the structure (1) in a position underneath the work plane (10), which on one side (50) is connected to a fixed part of the same structure (1 ) and on the other side (51) is connected to the lower or ventral surface of the comb (31): by means of the actuator (5), the comb (31), and with it the operating head (2) with the corresponding motor (3), is rotated about said axis (x-x) ;
- a plurality of electrical pressers (6) having a vertical axis with respective pressings pads (60) connected to a horizontal bar (17) placed above the working plane (10) and at a predetermined distance (d) from the operator side of the same plane, said bar (17) being supported by two "U"-shaped arms (16) fixed on the sides of the structure (1) ;
- a panel (7) on which there are installed commands used by the operator to activate the motor (3) , the
actuator (4), the actuator (5) and the pressers (6): in the attached drawings, the commands placed on the panel (7) for the actuator (4) that controls the position of the slide (30) are indicated with the reference "70", the commands for the actuator (5) that controls the rotation of the comb (31) are indicated with the reference "71", and the commands destined to activate the pressure elements (6) are indicated with the reference "72".
The comb (31) is constrained on both sides (15) of the structure (1) by means of horizontal pins (33) passing in holes (101, 34) provided respectively on said sides (15) behind the plane (10) and on two lateral ends of the comb (31) . The axes of said pins (33) lie along the axis (xx) mentioned above.
The bar (17) is provided with grooves (170) to which it is possible to engage the pressers (6) that, for this purpose, are provided with rear grooved coupling plates (61). In this way, each of the pressers (6) can be slid along the bar (17) and be freely positioned where needed.
Since the actuator (4), the actuator (5) and the pressure elements (6) are electrical, it is possible to program their operation according to the specific machining operations to be performed, thus avoiding the complexity of the controls and the adjustments of the machines in which such devices are of the pneumatic type.
In function of the holes to be drilled, the operator, using the controls provided on the panel (7), once positioned the workpiece on the surface (10) with the possible aid of the stops (14) and/or (18), controls the action of the pressers (6) that block the piece,
the intervention of . the actuator (5) which rotates the comb (31) about the axis (xx) to reach the required angle and the motor drive (3) that rotates the tools (23) at the programmed speed. The advancement of the head (2) relative to the workpiece is operated by the actuator (4).
With reference to the diagram of fig.9, a programmable electronic unit (U) receives data relating to the machining to be performed by means of the commands (70, 71, 72) located on the panel (7) and consequently controls the actuators (4) and (5), the pressure elements (6) and the motor (3). At the same units (U) are connected the sensors (S31, S30, S6, S3) that detect, respectively, the angular position of the comb (31), the position of the slide (30) on the comb (31), the position of the pads (60) and the speed of the shaft of motor (3) .
In the rear part (13) of the machine there is arranged a tool and accessories storage space (M) in correspondence of a section (A) for pneumatic evacuation of the chips.
The stops (14) and (19) can also be motorized instead of being of the manual type.
In the drawings, the reference "24" indicates a knob to manually adjust the height of the group formed by the operating head (2) and the motor (3) with respect to the comb (31). Also this adjusting device (24) may be replaced by an electric actuator.
In practice the details of execution may vary in any equivalent with reference to the arrangement and structure of the individual elements described and illustrated, without thereby departing from the scope of the adopted solution and thus remaining within the
limits of the protection afforded by this patent .
