Abstract

The present invention discloses a cutting guide intended, in use, to be fixed to hair or beard clippers, said cutting guide having a holder surmounted by a tiltable part articulated on said holder.

Description

 CUTTING GUIDE

Object of the invention

 The present invention relates to a two-part cutting guide with a retractable portion articulated on a support portion to be fixed on a hair trimmer or beard.

 The cutting guide according to the invention prevents an involuntary or inevitable inclination of the mower does not influence the length of cut for very short sizes, typically between 0.5 and 3 mm protecting the cutting line with the tiltable portion of the cutting guide in the extended position. For specific cuts, typically the size of the whiskers or mustache, the tilting portion of the cutting guide according to the invention can be retracted thus completely releasing the cutting line of the mower.

State of the art

 The cutting guide of a mower is a structure comprising a comb used to adjust the cutting height of the hair or hair of a beard.

 There are integral cutting guides of the mower whose position is adjustable via a control member (Figure 2).

 Moreover, there are removable combs of different sizes, intended to be fixed on the head of the mower by the user to adjust the cutting height. At each cutting length change, another cutting guide must be attached to the mower (Fig.l).

 [0006] Cutting guides are disclosed in patent applications

CA 2,254,672 A1 and US 2008/0184565 A1, as well as in US Patent 4,614,036.

Applications CA 2,254,672 A1 and US 2008/0184565 A1 have a cutting guide in the form of a comb which comprises at one end a flexible tongue for fixing on the blade of the mower.

[0008] The conventional cutting guides are removable. They must be removed from the mower if you want to access the use of the line of cut, that is to say, the blade, in the immediate vicinity of the skin. The disadvantage then lies in the fact that we find ourselves always with the cutting guide of which we do not know what to do when we do not use it, which risks losing it, losing it.

 EP 2 359 991 A1 discloses a motorized beard trimmer whose cutting unit is movable about an axis to allow, in use, an automatic adjustment of the positioning of the cutting unit to the shape of the face. This cutting guide has no support surmounted by a tiltable part.

[0010] US 2009/0188117 A1 relates to a cutting guide provided with a spring or other resilient means. The cutting guide has a fixed portion that can be attached to a mower and an articulated portion that can be partially crushed to define different cutting lengths. This cutting guide has no articulated part that can be tilted to release the cutting line.

 The present invention overcomes the disadvantages of the state of the art by providing a cutting guide with a tilting portion to remove only the troublesome part and to access, where necessary, directly to the line of cutting the mower.

Goals of the invention

 The present invention aims to provide a cutting guide intended to be positioned on a mower having a retractable portion for use on demand with or without protection of the cutting line. In this way, it reconciles the need for a cutting guide for easy adaptation of the cutting length and the need for direct access to the cutting line without having to remove the cutting guide from the mower.

Characteristic elements of the invention

The present invention discloses a cutting guide intended, in use, to be fixed on a hair trimmer or beard, said cutting guide comprising a support surmounted by a tiltable portion articulated on said support.

 According to particular embodiments of the invention, the cutting guide comprises at least one or a suitable combination of several of the following characteristics:

 - The support comprises slides allowing it, in use, to move along the frame of the mower, this movement can be motorized if necessary;

the support comprises means for adjusting the length of cut, this adjustment means may comprise length indications; - The displacement of said cutting guide along the frame of the mower, possibly motorized, can be controlled by a microprocessor and provided with an adjustment with pictograms;

 the means for adjusting the cutting length is a wheel with length indications;

 - The cutting guide comprises stops and locks for blocking the tiltable part in a deployed or non-deployed precise position;

 - Said cutting guide comprises a mechanism for automatically returning the tiltable portion (4).

The present invention also discloses a mower having a cutting guide according to the invention.

Brief description of the figures

 Figures 1 to 10 are the illustrations which have no limiting character. They represent only preferred embodiments of the invention.

Figures 1 and 2 are 3D representations of mowers equipped with removable cutting guides according to the state of the art.

Figure 3 shows a 3D view of a mower and the cutting guide according to the invention, the two elements being detached from one another. The deployed and unfolded positions of the tiltable portion of the cutting guide are shown.

 Figure 4 shows the cutting guide according to the invention with the tiltable part in the two possible positions (deployed and not deployed).

Figure 5 shows a three-dimensional view of an exploded section of the cutting guide according to the invention with particular detail hinges, stops and locks.

Figure 6 shows a side view of the cutting guide according to the invention mounted on a mower. Unfolded and unfolded positions are shown.

Figure 7 shows an application of a cutting guide without protection of the cutting line to illustrate the importance of such protection. Even a slight variation of the angle alpha immediately brings the cut line closer to the skin and causes a considerable variation in the length of cut (for example 3 mm to 0.5 mm). The result of such an involuntary distance variation is immediately visible and generally undesired. Figure 8 shows the solution to the problem shown in Figure 7. The cutting guide according to the invention provides a protected cutting line without noticeably influencing the cutting length by changing the alpha angle of the mower. The cutting guide according to the invention nevertheless offers the possibility of tilting this protection. This is shown in Figures 9 and 10.

 Figure 9 shows a possible application of the cutting guide according to the invention for the size of favorites where the tilting portion of the guide is retracted and where the cutting line is directly accessible.

 [0025] Figure 10 shows another possible application of the cutting guide according to the invention for the size of the mustache where the tilting portion of the guide is retracted and where the cutting line is directly accessible.

 Figure 11 shows an automatic return mechanism of the tiltable part in a given position. Legend

Detailed description of the invention

The present invention relates to a cutting guide 2 for a mower 1 which may be a beard trimmer, hair or even in special cases be intended for animal use. The cutting guide 2 is built in two parts, each having a comb. The two parts that we will call the support part or simply the support 3 and the tiltable part 4 are hinged to one another. According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, they are interconnected by hinges 9 to retract the tiltable portion 4 for the uses of the cutting line near the skin without having to remove the cutting guide 2 in all together and thus have to store it.

The cutting guide according to the invention is shown according to different views and applications in Figures 3 to 10. In Figure 3, the cutting guide 2 according to the invention is shown detached from the mower 1 on which it is likely to be mounted for better visibility of its structure. In Figure 4 the cutting guide according to the invention is shown alone in the two possible modes of use on a mower.

 In a preferred embodiment of the invention the cutting guide 2 is provided with two slides 8 on the support part for sliding on rails 10 of a mower in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the ci to adapt the cutting length. The position of the rails 10 and slides 8 can obviously be reversed on the mower and on the cutting guide. For the adaptation of the cutting length, the cutting guide according to the invention has an adjusting means 7, preferably a wheel equipped with a gear 14 resting on a rack fixed to the frame 5 of the mower.

The cutting guide 2 according to the invention will also include in a preferred version of the stops 12 for blocking the tiltable portion 4 in a deployed or undeployed precise position.

 Preferably, a latch 11 will block even the tiltable portion 4 in its chosen position, either to prevent it from moving freely in its undeployed position or to ensure a distance bearing surface of the guide relative to the skin constant when the tiltable portion 4 is in the deployed position. To unlock the tiltable portion 4, the user must press the two locks 11 which allows at least one lug located at the end of the bolt axis 11 out of its slot to release the movement of the party 4. When releasing the latches 11 the spring 13 pushes the lug in its housing to lock again the tiltable portion 4.

The main advantage of the cutting guide 2 according to the invention is to provide the ability to completely release the cut line for work on the mustache or favorites for example without having to remove the entire room of the mower.
