Description

Lure for fishing
[001 ] This invention relates to a lure for fishing comprising:
- a core part, which is made of rigid and heavy material and forms a body of the lure, which core has a spoon like overall shape wherein the spoon shape comprises a radius in a length direction and in a cross direction, and which core part comprises a connecting interface for a line and a connecting interface for a hook;
- an elastic member which is made of resilient material such as silicone, rub- ber, synthetic resin or foam, and which can be assembled on the core part in such manner that the core part defines the shape of the elastic member where applicable.
[002] This invention relates to a type of lures for fishing where there is provided a fish-like or fish imitating shape for the lure and which imitates a fish. This in- vention also relates a type of lures where there is provided a core part and an elastic cover part.
[003] In the art it is known a great variety of lures for fishing. There are jigs, wobblers, spoons, flies, and other forms of baits which are being used for fishing when connected to a line and presented to the water where lives the fish intended to get caught. This great variety of baits or lures is necessary because there are plenty of different species of fish to catch and the overall fishing conditions varies a lot. Sometimes it is the water clearness/cloudness, streaming of the water, sometimes it is the light, sunshine, cloudy, windy & rainy, etc. which makes the difference in selecting the lure a fisherman be- lieves he can catch the fish.
[004] A state of the art document JP2000295943 presents a lure used for fishing, the lure comprises: a rectangular plate type core material, an elastic member arranged so that the surface of the aforementioned core material may be covered. The lure has projected the length direction both ends of the afore- mentioned core material from the aforementioned elastic member, respectively and in which a connecting part is formed in these both ends, respectively. Lure also comprises a main part of spoon type lure consisting of an elastic member and a wire component arranged so that it may penetrate in the length direction in the aforementioned lure body. This document is considered to present the closest prior art.
[005] The objective of the invention is to provide a lure having a spoon type lure swimming action and construction where there is provided a hard core and a resilient cover giving the lure an outer shape. An objective is also to provide a lure system where it is possible to interchange easily the outer appearance of the lure. Another objective is to provide a lure which can be worked so that it imitates a live bait of wounded or other fish in not so good condition, i.e. which may easily trigger the strike of the fish to be catched.
[006] The present invention is characterized in that
- the core part has lengthwise a straight section and a spoon section and the hook connecting interface is located asymmetrically in an edge area of the spoon section so that there is formed a tip area to the spoon section so that the tip area forms an interlocking between the core part and the elastic member;
- the elastic member has a fish like overall outer shape and an inner cavity which fits in a stretched manner over the core part and follows the main shape of the core part,
- the core part has a length of 50 to 75 % of the length of the elastic member so that when assembled together, there remains a tail section of elastic member having a length of 50 to 25 % of the elastic member, which tail section is flexible so that it freely vibrates if the lure is moved in the water.
[007] The effect of having both straight section and spoon section is to enable the wanted swimming action in use. It swims differently when the pivot point of the wobbling is transferred backward from the location of a conventional spoon shaped lure. In addition the effect of having an asymmetrical location for hook connecting interface, such as a steel wire loop or other hole type configuration wherein a hook or hook ring can be attached, it transfers the swimming bal- ance of the lure sideways. As a conventional spoon shaped lure has easily quite mechanical back and forth swinging or wobbling swimming action, this asymmetrical geometry gives an extra randomness to the swimming action. As one main element in attracting the fish to strike is a sudden, unpredictable moves of the lure, which might imitate a deadly wounded fish which is easy to catch for a predator fish. According to an embodiment the straight section and the spoon section are about equal in length thus to give the lure a specific swimming action if worked in the water.
[008] This asymmetrical location of edge area of the spoon section also ena- bles the formation of a tip area to the spoon section so that the tip area forms an interlocking between the core part and the elastic member. Therefore it is not necessary to create a tip to tail long core part to keep the elastic member securely locked in its position but it gives more degree of freedom to the design of an attractive looking and behaving (moving) elastic member. Practically when used, it requires only minor effort to pass the core part in to the inner cavity of the elastic member and all the way so that the connecting interface for wire is available at the tip of the lure and then stretch the tail section so that the tip area interlocks to the elastic member. Further according to one embodiment the inner cavity of elastic member comprises a blind cavity at the rear end for the tip area of the spoon section to fit in and to interlock the core part and the elastic member together.
[009] The feature that the elastic member has a fish like overall outer shape and an inner cavity which fits in a stretched manner over the core part and follows the main shape of the core part is a basic element of this lure type. Fish like or fish imitating lures are one basic section among all lures. It is easy to imagine, that a predator fish could easily select and strike to this type of lure, it looks quite close to its natural food. Also the elasticity of the elastic member has a certain function to prevent the fish to immediately notice that the bait is not a true fish but a counterfeit. Sometimes if predator notices that the lure is hard and a fisherman is not quick enough to perform immediately a counter strike, the predator may spit the lure out of mouth and avoid getting caught. The basic shape of the lure is for the main swimming action and use, it defines the type of lure.
[010] The lure according to the invention is defined so that the core part has a length of 50 to 75 % of the length of the elastic member so that when assem- bled together, there remains a tail section of elastic member having a length of 50 to 25 % of the elastic member, which tail section is flexible so that it freely vibrates if the lure is moved in the water. The effect of this feature is to give a free vibration to the lure, even if not reeled or dragged, for example just letting the lure to sink. As the closest prior art presents a lure wherein the spoon like core continues all the way from tip to tail, it restricts in a significant way the swimming movement of the lure. With the present lure, the tail section can vibrate freely and give the possible observing fish an image, that it is live (lure) and swimming when moving. The dimensions are designed so that the normal fish appearance is achieved but the specific swimming movement is also achieved. If the elastic member is longer that defined (for example tail section over 60%), the risk of damaged lure and lost catch increases and if the tail section is shorter than defined, the swimming action looks more artificial and mechanical. That is why the applicant has ended up to these ranges in their tests.
[01 1 ] According to an embodiment the core part may be of cast metal wherein the connecting interface for a line and the connecting interface for a hook is formed pre-cast of a bent steel wire. This seems to be the most economical method of producing these lures. A steel wire is first bent to a proper configura- tio and then placed in to a mould cavity. Then a suitable molten material is cast to the cavity. Suitable material may contain zink, tin, lead, copper, bronze, some heavy weight polymers, wolfram, etc. The main function of the material is to give a respective stiffness, strength and weight to the core part and enable reliable connecting interfaces for the line (or wire) and the hook. Also some powder type materials when compressed are very suitable for this purpose. Also a conventional method of manufacturing spoon lures by blank stamping may be used for manufacturing of the core part. [012] With regard to the manufacturing of the elastic member a cast plastic is the preferred material / method. As there is wide variety of suitable materials for the elastic member, the silicone may be among the preferred materials due to its durability, flexibility and it is easy to manufacture attractive looking lures out of it.
[013] In the following the invention is described in more detail in reference to attached drawings wherein:
FIG. 1 presents a side view of one embodiment of the lure,
FIG. 2 presents a top view of one embodiment of the lure,
FIG. 3 presents a side view of an embodiment of the core part,
FIG. 4 presents a top view of an embodiment of the core part,
FIG. 5 presents an embodiment of the elastic member.
[014] In FIG. 1 presents a lure 1 for fishing, comprising:
- a core part 2, which is made of rigid and heavy material and forms a body of the lure, which core 2 has a spoon like overall shape wherein the spoon shape comprises a radius in a length direction and in a cross direction, and which core part 2 comprises a connecting interface 21 for a line and a connecting interface 22 for a hook;
- an elastic member 3 which is made of resilient material such as silicone, rub- ber, synthetic resin or foam, and which can be assembled on the core part 2 in such manner that the core part 2 defines the shape of the elastic member 3 where applicable;
- the core part 2 has lengthwise a straight section 20 and a spoon section 25 (roughly illustrated by two arrows 20, 25) and the hook connecting interface 22 is located asymmetrically in respect to the centerline CL in an edge area 27 of the spoon section 25 so that there is formed a tip area 26 (illustrated in FIG.1 with dash-dot-line 26) to the spoon section 25 so that the tip area 26 forms an interlocking between the core part 2 and the elastic member 3;
- the elastic member 3 has a fish like overall outer shape and an inner cavity 33 which fits in a stretched manner over the core part 2 and follows the main shape of the core part 2;
- the core part 2 has a length of 50 to 75 % of the length of the elastic member 3 so that when assembled together, there remains a tail section 37 of elastic member 3 having a length of 50 to 25 % of the elastic member 3, which tail section 37 is flexible so that it freely vibrates if the lure 1 is moved in the water. Here the term "freely vibrates" means that it has at least one direction where it moves back and forth with minor effort. The volumes and volume distribution over the respective dimension of the core part 2 and the elastic member 3 is selected taking in to account the densities of the materials so that the center of the gravity of the lure G comprising the core part, the elastic member and the hook is located in the spoon section and offset down from the tip to tail line of the lure.
[015] In FIG.1 it is also presented that the inner cavity 33 of elastic member 3 comprises a blind cavity 330 at the rear end for the tip area 26 of the spoon section 25 to fit in and to interlock the core part 2 and the elastic member 3 together. [016] In FIG. 2 it is presented a top view of one embodiment of the lure 1 comprising the core part and the elastic member 3. In this figure the spoon like shape is very clearly noticeable in reference to the center line CL. With references 20 and 25 the straight section and the spoon section 25 are visualized and the tail section 37 is also presented in a schematic way with an arrow 37. [017] In FIG. 3 It is presented a core part 2, which is made of rigid and heavy material and forms a body of the lure, which core 2 has a spoon like overall shape wherein the spoon shape comprises a radius in a length direction and in a cross direction, and which core part 2 comprises a connecting interface 21 for a line and a connecting interface 22 for a hook. The core part 2 has length- wise a straight section 20 and a spoon section 25 and the hook connecting interface 22 is located asymmetrically in an edge area 27 of the spoon section 25 so that there is formed a tip area 26 to the spoon section 25 so that the tip area 26 forms an interlocking between the core part 2 and the elastic member 3. The center of the gravity 29 of the combination of the core part and a hook when assembled is in the spoon section and offset of the longitudinal center line CL of the core part. [018] In FIG. 4 It is presented a schematic top view of an embodiment of core part 2 of FIG.3. The line dividing the core part to the straight section 20 and the spoon section 25 continues from FIG. 3 to show this idea. The straight section 20 and the spoon section 25 may be about equal in length thus to give the lure 1 a specific swimming action if worked in the water. The core part 2 may be of cast metal (Zink, Tin, Lead, Copper etc.) wherein the connecting interface 21 for a line and the connecting interface 22 for a hook is formed pre-cast of a bent steel wire. A wire of stainless steel is very practical in this purpose, because it is strong and resistant to rust, an issue to be taken into account since lures are often used in salty waters. Also for example sheet materials like stainless steel plate or sheet or similar can be used for forming the connecting interfaces 21 , 22.
[019] In FIG. 4 the center of the gravity 28 of the core part 2 is located in the spoon section 25 and in offset of a lateral plane formed in vertical direction along the center line CL of the straight section. In this FIG. 4 the view is vertically from the top of the cope part 2, thus the offset of center of the gravity is visual in relation to the center line CL and the lateral plane in the direction of the center line CL.
[020] In FIG. 5 it is presented an elastic member 3 with an inner cavity 33. The inner cavity 33 of elastic member 3 comprises a blind cavity 330 at the rear end for the tip area 26 of the spoon section 25 (not shown) to fit in and to interlock the core part 2 and the elastic member 3 together. The elastic member 3 comprises two openings 35, 36 to the inner cavity 33, one 36 in the front for the connecting interface of the line to be available and one 35 located at the belly area of the fish like elastic member 3 for inserting the core part 2 in to inner cavity 33 and respectively one for the hook connecting interface 22 to exceed outside the elastic member 3. The opening 35 at the belly area is preferably designed so that it is slightly smaller than the greatest perimeter of the core part 2. Then the core part 2 and elastic member 3 remain well together in normal use. In FIG. 5 also the portion of tail part 37 is visualized by arrow to give an example of suitable dimensioning of the core part and the elastic member. The elastic member 3 is made of resilient material such as silicone, rubber, synthetic resin or foam. As the material science progress very fast, there may be new very suitable materials for the purpose.
[021 ] It is possible to offer a sales kit comprising the claimed lure and number of elastic members 3 similar or different to each other. It is also possible to form a sales kit which comprises the claimed lure and in addition it includes a scent medium to be put to the inner cavity 33 for attracting a fish by smelling.
