Description

LEVER TYPE CONNECTOR
The present invention relates to a lever type connector in which one connector housing is fitted into the other connector housing by a rotation operation of a lever.
Conventionally, as a connector in which a male connector housing is fitted into a female connector housing by a rotation operation of a lever, for example, a lever type connector described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open Publication No. 2009-152063 (PTL 1) is proposed.
The lever type connector substantially includes a female connector housing, a male connector housing which can be fitted into the female connector housing, and a lever which is rotatably and pivotally supported by the male connector housing.
The female connector housing is provided with a guide groove along a fitting direction of the male connector housing in a reception section that receives the male connector housing, and the male connector housing is provided with a guide rib in a protruding manner, which can be inserted into the guide groove.
When the male connector housing is fitted into the female connector housing, the guide rib of the male connector housing is inserted into the guide groove of the female connector housing, so that the male connector housing is guided to a position where the male connector housing is half fitted into the female connector housing.
Then, by a rotation operation of the lever, the male connector housing is moved to a position where the male connector housing is fully fitted into the female connector housing, so that the male connector housing is fitted into the female connector housing.

By the way, in the lever type connector described above, an opening of the guide groove provided in the female connector housing and an opening of the reception section are provided on the same plane. Therefore, the male connector housing cannot be inserted into the female connector housing unless the positioning of the guide rib provided in the male connector housing with respect to the opening of the guide groove and the positioning of the male connector housing with respect to the opening of the reception section provided in the female connector housing are achieved at the same time while performing visual check. Thus, there is a demand to improve the insertion workability.
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a lever type connector where the workability of inserting one connector housing into the other connector housing is improved.
To achieve the above object, according to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided the lever type connector includes a first connector housing, a second connector housing that can be fitted into the first connector housing, and a lever that is rotatably and pivotally supported by the first connector housing. When the first connector housing is located at a position where the first connector housing is half fitted into the second connector housing, the first connector housing is moved to a position where the first connector housing is fully fitted into the second connector housing by a rotation operation of the lever. The first connector housing includes a guide rib protruding in at least one direction in a width direction perpendicular to a fitting direction in which the first connector housing is fitted into the second connector housing. The second connector housing includes a reception section which receives the first connector housing, and a guide rib guide unit which guides the guide rib. The guide rib guide unit includes a guide groove which guides the guide rib in the reception section in the fitting direction in which the first connector housing is fitted into the second connector housing, and a guide slope which engages with the guide rib outside the reception section and guides the engaged guide rib to an opening of the guide groove.
According to an aspect of the present invention, in the lever type connector, the guide rib is provided at a position where the guide rib can avoid interference with the lever in an entire range in which the lever rotates with respect to the first connector housing.
According to an aspect of the present invention, in the lever type connector, the first connector housing includes the guide rib on one side and the other side in the width direction perpendicular to the fitting direction in which the first connector housing is fitted into the second connector housing.
According to an aspect of the present invention, in the lever type connector, the guide slope is formed so that a part of the first connector housing received in the reception section is exposed to the outside of the reception section.
According to an aspect of the present invention, in the lever type connector, the guide rib is guided by the guide slope to the opening of the guide groove in a direction which intersects both a protruding direction of the guide rib and the fitting direction.
According to the lever type connector of the present invention, the second connector housing is provided with the guide slope which engages with the guide rib outside the reception section provided in the second connector housing and guides the guide rib to the opening of the guide groove formed in the reception section. Therefore, by guiding the guide rib to the opening of the guide groove, it is possible to easily position the first connector housing to the opening of the reception section of the second connector housing and insert the first connector housing into the reception section.
Therefore, it is possible to provide a lever type connector where the workability of inserting one connector housing into the other connector housing is improved.
According to the lever type connector of the present invention, the guide rib is provided at a position where the guide rib can avoid interference with the lever, so that the lever does not interfere with the guide rib. Therefore, after the first connector housing is inserted into the second connector housing, the first connector housing can be moved to a position where the first connector housing is fully fitted into the second connector housing by rotating the lever.
According to the lever type connector of the present invention, the guide rib is provided on one side and the other side in the width direction perpendicular to the fitting direction in which the guide ribs are fitted into the second connector housing. Therefore, the guide ribs can be more reliably guided from the guide slopes to the openings of the guide grooves.
According to the lever type connector of the present invention, the guide slope is formed in the second connector housing, so that the first connector housing received in the reception section is exposed to the outside of the reception section. Therefore, it is possible to visually check the fitting state of the first connector housing even after the first connector housing is fitted into the second connector housing.
According to the lever type connector of the present invention, by guiding the guide rib to the opening of the guide groove by the guide slope and inserting the guide rib into the guide groove, the first connector housing can be positioned with respect to the opening of the reception section in two directions including the protruding direction of the guide rib and the guiding direction of the guide rib by the guide slope. Therefore, it is possible to facilitate the positioning of the first connector housing with respect to the second connector housing (and the opening of the reception section) and improve the insertion workability.
According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a lever type connector where the workability of inserting one connector housing into the other connector housing is improved.
Figs. 1(a) and 1(b) are perspective views showing a male connector housing and a female connector housing, respectively, which are included in a lever type connector according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of the male connector housing shown in Fig. 1(a). Fig. 3(a) is a perspective view showing a positioning operation of the lever type connector according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 3(b) is an enlarged perspective view showing a portion of guide ribs which engage with guide slopes. Fig. 4 is a side view showing a state during the positioning operation of the lever type connector according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 5(a) is a perspective view showing an engaging operation of the lever type connector according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 5(b) is an enlarged perspective view showing a portion of the guide ribs which are guided into guide grooves. Fig. 6 is a side view showing a state during the engaging operation of the lever type connector according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 7 is a side view showing in parallel the lever type connector according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, in which the male connector housing is fully fitted into the female connector housing, and another connector.
Hereinafter, a lever type connector according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. First, the lever type connector according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to Figs. 1(a), 1(b) and 2.
Fig. 1(a) is a perspective view showing a male connector housing of the lever type connector according to the present embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 1(b) is a perspective view showing a female connector housing of the lever type connector according to the present embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of the male connector housing shown in Fig. 1(a).
The lever type connector according to the present embodiment of the present invention is related to an LIF connector in which male and female connector housings (a first connector housing and a second connector housing described later) are fitted together using a low insertion force by a rotation operation of a lever.
The lever type connector 1 (see Figs. 3(a), 3(b) and 4) according to the present embodiment of the present invention substantially includes a male connector housing (the first connector housing) 11 of Fig. 1(a) including a plurality of male terminals (not shown in the drawings) disposed inside thereof, a female connector housing (the second connector housing) 21 of Fig. 1(b) which can be fitted to the male connector housing, and a lever 31 of Fig. 1(a) which is rotatably and pivotally supported by the male connector housing 11.
As shown in Fig. 1(a), the male connector housing (the first connector housing) 11 includes a terminal housing unit 12 which houses a plurality of male terminals, a pair of rotatable protruding portions 13a and 13b (one side is omitted) inserted into rotatable holes 34a and 34b of the lever 31 described later, and guide ribs 14 guided into the female connector housing 11 by guide rib guide units 23 (see Fig. 1(b)) described later.
The terminal housing unit 12 houses a plurality of male terminals (not shown in the drawings). When the male connector housing 11 is fitted into the female connector housing 21, the plurality of male terminals housed in the terminal housing unit 12 connect to female terminals (not shown in the drawings) housed inside the female connector housing 21.
The pair of rotatable protruding portions 13a and 13b (one side is omitted) are provided on a lateral surface of the male connector housing 11. When the rotatable protruding portions 13a and 13b are inserted into the rotatable holes 34a and 34b, respectively, which are formed in the lever 31, the lever 31 is rotatably and pivotally supported with respect to the male connector housing 11.
The guide ribs 14 are provided in a protruding manner on one side and the other side in the width direction (arrow Y direction and arrow Y' direction) of the male connector housing 11, which is perpendicular to the fitting direction (arrow X direction) of the male connector housing 11 and the female connector housing 21.
The guide ribs 14 are guided in the fitting direction (arrow X direction) in which the male connector housing 11 is fitted into the female connector housing 21 in a connector housing reception section 22, by guide grooves 24 (see Fig. 1(b)) described later.
When the guide ribs 14 are guided in the fitting direction (arrow X direction) in which the male connector housing 11 is fitted into the female connector housing 21 by the guide grooves 24 (see Fig. 1(b)) described later, the male connector housing 11 is held at a position where the male connector housing 11 is half fitted into the female connector housing 21.
The guide ribs 14 are provided at positions where the guide ribs 14 can avoid interference with the lever 31 in the entire range in which the lever 31 rotates with respect to the male connector housing 11. In other words, the guide ribs 14 are provided at a position opposing the lever 31 which is pivotally supported by the male connector housing 11.
In this way, the guide ribs 14 are provided at positions where the guide ribs 14 can avoid interference with the lever 31, so that the lever 31 does not interfere with the guide ribs 14. Therefore, after the male connector housing 11 is inserted into the female connector housing 21, the male connector housing 11 can be moved to a position where the male connector housing 11 is fully fitted into the female connector housing 21 by rotating the lever 31.
As shown in Fig. 1(b), the female connector housing (the second connector housing) 21 includes the connector housing reception section 22 that receives the male connector housing 11 and the guide rib guide units 23 that guide the guide ribs 14 of the male connector housing 11.
The bottom surface of the connector housing reception section 22 is provided with a plurality of female terminals (not shown in the drawings) connected to the male terminals (not shown in the drawings) housed in the terminal housing unit 12 of the male connector housing 11.
The guide ribs 14 of the male connector housing 11 are guided by the guide rib guide units 23, so that the male connector housing 11 is received in the connector housing reception section 22.
The guide rib guide unit 23 includes a guide groove 24 that guides the guide rib 14 (see Fig. 1(a)) into the connector housing reception section 22 and a guide slope 25 that guides the guide rib 14 to the opening of the guide groove 24.
The guide groove 24 guides the guide rib 14 (see Fig. 1(a)) in the fitting direction (arrow X direction in Fig. 1(a)) in which the male connector housing 11 is fitted into the female connector housing 21 in the connector housing reception section 22.
The guide slope 25 slants from an edge of the opening of the connector housing reception section 22 to the opening of the guide groove 24. The guide slopes 25 engage with (abut on) the guide ribs 14 (see Fig. 1(a)) outside the connector housing reception section 22 (see Fig. 3(b) described later) and guide the engaged guide ribs 14 to the openings of the guide grooves 24.
The guide slopes 25 are formed so that a part of the male connector housing 11 received in the connector housing reception section 22 is exposed to the outside of the connector housing reception section 22 when the male connector housing 11 is received in the connector housing reception section 22 (see Fig. 7(a) described later).
The guide slopes 25 are formed in the female connector housing 21 in the manner described above, so that the male connector housing 11 received in the connector housing reception section 22 is exposed to the outside of the connector housing reception section 22. Therefore, it is possible to visually check the fitting state of the male connector housing 11 even after the male connector housing 11 is fitted into the female connector housing 21.
By the guide slopes 25, the guide ribs 14 are guided to the openings of the guide grooves 24 (see Fig. 5(b) described later) in a direction which intersects both the protruding directions of the guide ribs 14 (arrow Y direction and arrow Y' direction in Fig. 1(a)) and the fitting direction (arrow X direction in Fig. 1(a)).
Therefore, by guiding the guide ribs 14 to the openings of the guide grooves 24 by the guide slopes 25 and inserting the guide ribs 14 into the guide grooves 24, the male connector housing 11 can be positioned with respect to the opening of the connector housing reception section 22 in two directions including the protruding directions of the guide ribs 14 and the guiding direction of the guide ribs 14 by the guide slopes 25.
Therefore, it is possible to facilitate the positioning of the male connector housing 11 with respect to the female connector housing 21 (and the opening of the connector housing reception section 22) and improve the insertion workability.
As shown in Figs. 1(a), 1(b) and 2, the lever 31 includes a pair of lever side plates 32 located at the side surfaces of the male connector housing 11 and an operation unit 33 that links the pair of lever side plates 32 together.
When the male connector housing 11 is located at a position where the male connector housing 11 is half fitted into the female connector housing 21, the lever 31 moves the male connector housing 11 to a position where the male connector housing 11 is fully fitted into the female connector housing 21 by a rotation operation of the lever 31.
In the pair of the lever side plates 32, the rotatable holes 34a and 34b, which are long holes formed toward one side of the lever 31, are formed. The rotatable protruding portions 13a and 13b of the male connector housing 11 are inserted into the rotatable holes 34a and 34b respectively, so that the lever 31 is rotatably and pivotally supported by the male connector housing 11.
When the male connector housing 11 is located at a position where the male connector housing 11 is half fitted into the female connector housing 21, if the lever 31 is rotated by operating the operation unit 33, the male connector housing 11 moves to a position where the male connector housing 11 is fully fitted into the female connector housing 21.
As described above, the female connector housing 21 is provided with the guide slopes 25 which engage with the guide ribs 14 outside the connector housing reception section 22 provided in the female connector housing 21, and guide the guide ribs 14 to the openings of the guide grooves 24 formed in the connector housing reception section 22.
Therefore, by guiding the guide ribs 14 to the openings of the guide grooves 24, it is possible to easily position the male connector housing 11 to the opening of the connector housing reception section 22 of the female connector housing 21 and insert the male connector housing 11 into the reception section.
Next, an operation to insert the male connector housing into the female connector housing according to the present embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to Figs. 3(a) and 3(b) to 7. Fig. 3(a) is a perspective view showing a state during a positioning operation of the lever type connector according to the present embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 3(b) is an enlarged perspective view showing a portion of the guide ribs which engage with the guide slopes. Fig. 4 is a side view of the lever type connector during the positioning operation.
Fig. 5(a) is a perspective view showing a state during an engaging operation of the lever type connector according to the present embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 5(b) is an enlarged perspective view showing a portion of the guide ribs which are guided to the guide grooves. Fig. 6 is a side view of the lever type connector during the engaging operation.
Further, Fig. 7 is a side view showing in parallel the lever type connector according to the present embodiment of the present invention, in which the male connector housing is fully fitted into the female connector housing, and another connector.
First, as shown in Fig. 3(a), the rotatable protruding portions 13a and 13b of the male connector housing 11 are respectively inserted into the rotatable holes 34a and 34b of the lever 31, so that the lever 31 is rotatably and pivotally supported by the male connector housing 11.
Next, when the male connector housing 11 is received in the connector housing reception section 22 of the female connector housing 21, as shown in Fig. 3(b), the guide ribs 14 of the male connector housing 11 are guided by the guide rib guide units 23 of the female connector housing 21.
Specifically, as shown in Figs. 3(a), 3(b) and 4, the guide ribs 14 are brought into contact with the guide slopes 25 from an edge portion outside the connector housing reception section 22 (see Fig. 1(b)), so that the guide ribs 14 engage with the guide slopes 25.
Next, while the guide ribs 14 are engaged with the guide slopes 25, the guide ribs 14 are slid in an arrow A direction (see Fig. 3(b)), so that the engaged guide ribs 14 are guided to the openings of the guide grooves 24 (see Fig. 5(b)).
As shown in Figs. 5(a), 5(b) and 6, the guide ribs 14 guided to the openings of the guide grooves 24 are guided in the fitting direction (arrow X direction in Fig. 1(a)), in which the male connector housing 11 is fitted into the female connector housing 21, in the connector housing reception section 22 (see Fig. 1(b)) by the guide grooves 24.
When the guide ribs 14 are guided in the fitting direction (arrow X direction in Fig. 1(a)) in which the male connector housing 11 is fitted into the female connector housing 21, the male connector housing 11 is received in the connector housing reception section 22 (see Fig. 1(b)) of the female connector housing 21(see FIG.6).
As described above, the guide slopes 25 are formed so that a part of the male connector housing 11 received in the connector housing reception section 22 is exposed to the outside of the connector housing reception section 22.
Therefore, as shown in Fig. 7, when the male connector housing 11 is received in the connector housing reception section 22, the male connector housing 11 received in the connector housing reception section 22 is exposed to the outside of the connector housing reception section 22, so that it is possible to visually check the fitting state of the male connector housing 11 even after the male connector housing 11 is fitted into the female connector housing 21.
In particular, when the lever type connector 1 is arranged adjacent to another connector 2, it is possible to visually check the fitting state of the male connector housing 11 even after the male connector housing 11 is fitted into the female connector housing 21 by determining whether or not a height H from a position L1 of a substrate on which the connectors 1 and 2 are mounted or a position L1 of the tips of the pins of the connectors 1 and 2 to the upper end L2 of the male connector housings 11 and 111 is approximately even.
In other words, it is possible to check the fitting state of the male connector housing 11 by comparing the height of the male connector housing 11 exposed to the outside of the connector housing reception section 22 and the height of the male connector housing 111 exposed to the outside of the other connector 2.
As described above, the guide ribs 14 are engaged with the guide slopes 25 and slid outside the connector housing reception section 22 and the engaged guide ribs 14 are guided to the openings of the guide grooves 24 (see Fig. 5(b)).
Thereby, the guide ribs 14 are slid along the guide slopes 25, so that it is possible to achieve the positioning of the guide ribs 14 with respect to the openings of the guide grooves 24 and the positioning of the male connector housing 11 with respect to the opening of the connector housing reception section 22 provided in the female connector housing 21 at the same time.
As described above, the lever type connector 1 according to the present embodiment of the present invention includes the male connector housing (the first connector housing) 11, the female connector housing (the second connector housing) 21 which can be fitted to the male connector housing 11, and the lever 31 which is rotatably and pivotally supported by the male connector housing 11, and when the male connector housing 11 is located at a position where the male connector housing 11 is half fitted into the female connector housing 21, the male connector housing 11 is moved to a position where the male connector housing 11 is fully fitted into the female connector housing 21 by a rotation operation of the lever 31. The male connector housing 11 includes the guide rib 14 protruding in at least one direction in the width direction perpendicular to the fitting direction in which the male connector housing 11 is fitted into the female connector housing 21. The female connector housing 21 includes the reception section (the connector housing reception section) 22 which receives the male connector housing 11 and the guide rib guide unit 23 which guides the guide rib 14. The guide rib guide unit 23 includes, in the reception section 22, the guide groove 24 which guides the guide rib 14 in the fitting direction in which the male connector housing 11 is fitted into the female connector housing 21 and the guide slope 25 which engages with the guide rib 14 outside the reception section 22 and guides the engaged guide rib 14 to the opening of the guide groove 24.
In the lever type connector 1 according to the present embodiment of the present invention, the guide rib 14 is provided at a position where the guide rib 14 can avoid interference with the lever 31 in the entire range in which the lever 31 rotates with respect to the male connector housing 11.
Further, in the lever type connector 1 according to the present embodiment of the present invention, the male connector housing 11 includes the guide rib 14 on one side and the other side in the width direction perpendicular to the fitting direction in which the male connector housing 11 is fitted into the female connector housing 21.
Also, in the lever type connector 1 according to the present embodiment of the present invention, the guide slope 25 is formed so that a part of the male connector housing 11 received in the reception section 22 is exposed to the outside of the reception section 22.
Further, in the lever type connector 1 according to the present embodiment of the present invention, the guide rib 14 is guided by the guide slope 25 to the opening of the guide groove 24 in a direction which intersects both the protruding direction of the guide rib 14 and the fitting direction.
According to the lever type connector 1 of the present embodiment of the present invention, the female connector housing 21 is provided with the guide slope 25 which engages with the guide rib 14 outside the connector housing reception section 22 provided in the female connector housing 21 and guides the guide rib 14 to the opening of the guide groove 24 formed in the connector housing reception section 22. Therefore, by guiding the guide rib 14 to the opening of the guide groove 24, it is possible to easily position the male connector housing 11 to the opening of the connector housing reception section 22 of the female connector housing 21 and insert the male connector housing 11 into the reception section 22.
Therefore, it is possible to provide the lever type connector 1 where the workability of inserting the male connector housing 11 into the female connector housing 21 is improved.
According to the lever type connector 1 of the present embodiment of the present invention, the guide rib is provided at a position where the guide rib can avoid interference with the lever, so that the lever 31 does not interfere with the guide rib 14. Therefore, after the male connector housing 11 is inserted into the female connector housing 21, the male connector housing 11 can be moved to a position where the male connector housing 11 is fully fitted into the female connector housing 21 by rotating the lever 31.
Further, according to the lever type connector 1 of the present embodiment of the present invention, the guide rib 14 is provided on one side and the other side in the width direction perpendicular to the fitting direction in which the guide ribs 14 are fitted into the female connector housing 21. Therefore, the guide ribs 14 can be more reliably guided from the guide slopes 25 to the openings of the guide grooves 24.
Furthermore, according to the lever type connector 1 of the present embodiment of the present invention, the guide slopes 25 are formed in the female connector housing 21, so that the male connector housing 11 received in the connector housing reception section 22 is exposed to the outside of the connector housing reception section 22. Therefore, it is possible to visually check the fitting state of the male connector housing 11 even after the male connector housing 11 is fitted into the female connector housing 21.
Further, according to the lever type connector 1 of the present embodiment of the present invention, by guiding the guide rib 14 to the opening of the guide groove 24 by the guide slope 25 and inserting the guide rib 14 into the guide groove 24, the male connector housing 11 can be positioned with respect to the opening of the reception section 22 in two directions including the protruding direction of the guide rib 14 and the guiding direction of the guide rib 14 by the guide slope 25. Therefore, it is possible to facilitate the positioning of the male connector housing 11 with respect to the female connector housing 21 (and the opening of the connector housing reception section 22) and improve the insertion workability.
Although the lever type connector of the present invention has been described based on the embodiment shown in the drawings, the present invention is not limited to this, and configuration of each component can be replaced by any configuration having the same function.
For example, although, in the present embodiment of the present invention, the case is described in which the guide rib 14 is provided in a protruding manner on one side and the other side in the width direction (arrow Y direction and arrow Y' direction) of the male connector housing 11, the guide rib 14 may be provided on either one of the one side and the other side.
The present invention is a lever type connector in which one connector housing is fitted into the other connector housing by a rotation operation of a lever and the present invention is extremely useful when inserting the one connector housing into the other connector housing.

Claims (5)

  1. A lever type connector comprising:
    a first connector housing;
    a second connector housing that can be fitted to the first connector housing; and
    a lever that is rotatably and pivotally supported by the first connector housing,
    wherein
    when the first connector housing is located at a position where the first connector housing is half fitted into the second connector housing, the first connector housing is moved to a position where the first connector housing is fully fitted into the second connector housing by a rotation operation of the lever,
    the first connector housing includes a guide rib protruding in at least one direction in a width direction perpendicular to a fitting direction in which the first connector housing is fitted into the second connector housing,
    the second connector housing includes a reception section which receives the first connector housing, and a guide rib guide unit which guides the guide rib, and
    the guide rib guide unit includes a guide groove which guides the guide rib in the reception section in the fitting direction in which the first connector housing is fitted into the second connector housing, and a guide slope which engages with the guide rib outside the reception section and guides the engaged guide rib to an opening of the guide groove.
  2. The lever type connector according to claim 1, wherein the guide rib is provided at a position where the guide rib can avoid interference with the lever in an entire range in which the lever rotates with respect to the first connector housing.
  3. The lever type connector according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the first connector housing includes the guide rib on one side and the other side in the width direction perpendicular to the fitting direction in which the first connector housing is fitted into the second connector housing.
  4. The lever type connector according to claims 1 or 2, wherein the guide slope is formed so that a part of the first connector housing received in the reception section is exposed to the outside of the reception section.
  5. The lever type connector according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the guide rib is guided by the guide slope to the opening of the guide groove in a direction which intersects both a protruding direction of the guide rib and the fitting direction.
