Description

"PISTON FOR ALTERNATIVE COMPRESSOR"
Field of the Invention
The present invention refers to a piston for alternative compressor and, more specifically, to a piston for linear compressor.
Background of the Invention
A compressor has a function of increasing pressure of a determined volume of fluid to a pressure required for the carrying out of a cooling cycle. There are known in the art the thus-called alternative compressors where a piston reciprocatedly slides within a cylinder to compress gases.
Contact between a reciprocating piston and a cylinder can generate great mechanical losses, and may result in mechanical wear and premature compressor failure, increase in operational temperature, increase in the compressor vibration, and efficiency lost, thus also contributing to increase in power consumption of the equipment.
In some compressor types, a lubricant oil is provided between the moving parts; however, for some applications in linear compressors the presence of oil is deleterious.
Hence, one drawback presented by the linear movement of a piston inside a cylinder is associated with piston bending during its linear path.
Bending of a cylinder during its linear path within the cylinder may result in a direct impact between the parts, causing damage to both inner surface of the cylinder and outer surface of the piston. Additionally, this impact prevents the piston from moving correctly, leading to operation inefficiency. Another important drawback related to a piston for an alternative compressor without lubricant oil lays in the fact that same has no ability to prevent gas escape through the gap between piston and cylinder when said piston is along its compression course. The absence of oil in said gap between the piston and cylinder may end up leading to gas escape, thus causing a great harm to compressor efficiency.
Objects of the Invention
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a piston for an alternative compressor which will make its movement within the cylinder easier, preventing direct impact between the walls and reducing wear of the piston/cylinder set.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a piston for an alternative compressor, which reduces gas escape through the gap between the piston and cylinder when said piston is at the end of its compression course.
Summary of the Invention
The objects of the present invention are fully accomplished by the presently dis- closed piston for alternative compressor.
Said piston for alternative compressor provides a piston capable of effecting a reciprocating movement within a compressor cylinder enclosed by a substantially tubular wall with an end closed by an end wall and an open end with a distal edge. The tubular wall extension has a dimension analogously proportional to about two to four times the tubular wall diameter.
Preferably, said longitudinal extension of the piston tubular wall has about three times the diameter size of the tubular wall. Also preferably, said longitudinal extension of the tubular wall is from twenty to forty millimeters in length, and said tubular wall diameter is from six to fourteen millimeters in diameter. More specifically, and, in accordance with the present invention, the longitudinal extension of the tubular wall preferably has thirty millimeters in length, and preferably a tubular wall diameter of ten millimeters.
Further, in accordance with the present invention, the closed end of said tubular wall comprises a bevel extending to the outer surface of said wall end, and the open end of the tubular wall comprises a bevel extending up to the upper surface of the distal edge. In this regard, each of said bevels has an inclination at an angle defined by the recession and longitudinal extension of the outer surface of the end wall or outer surface of the distal edge.
Preferably, each of said bevels preferably has an extension of from one to three millimeters.
Brief Description of Drawings
Figures show:
Figure 1 illustrates a perspective view of a piston in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 2 illustrates a cut view of said piston depicted in Figure 1.
Figure 3 illustrates an enlarged view of detail "X" depicted in Figure 2.
Detailed Description of the Invention
Next, the present invention will be described in more details based on the working examples represented by the appended drawings.
Figure 1 illustrates a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of a piston for alternative compressor of the present invention.
Said piston depicted in Figure 2 is designed to effect a reciprocating movement within a (not illustrated) compressor cylinder.
Said piston illustrated in Figure 2 comprises a substantially tubular wall 1 having an end 2 closed by a wall end 2a and an open end 2 with a distal edge 3a. Said closed end 2 is known as piston top.
In the piston of the present invention, a longitudinal extension L of a tubular wall 1 has a size analogously proportional to two to four times diameter D of said tubular wall 1.
Such a proportion is important to minimize wear and power consumption during linear movement within the cylinder because it makes difficult the bending of said piston during its course. Moreover, said proportion allows for the piston to minimize gas escape through the gap between the piston and the cylinder when said piston is along the end of its compression course since a piston having such dimensions more suitably seals a compression chamber.
In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, said longitudinal extension L of said piston has about three times the diameter D of the cross-section of tubular wall 1. Hence, in the preferred embodiment, said piston has thirty millimeters in length and ten millimeters in diameter.
The piston of the present invention comprises a bevel 4 disposed at the close end 2 of tubular wall 1.
The piston of the present invention further comprises a second bevel 5 disposed at the open end 3 of tubular wall 1. Said second bevel 5 extends to a distal edge 3a of said open end 3 of tubular wall 1.
Both bevel 4 and bevel 5 have an inclination at an angle defined by a recess V and a longitudinal extension W.
Preferably, dimensions V and W are such that correspond to the following relationships: V - (c*W) / L, where c stands for a diametral gap between the piston and (not shown) cylinder; L stands for the piston longitudinal extension; and W stands for the longitudinal extension of bevel 4 or 5.
In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, said longitudinal extension W of each of bevels 4 and 5 has about one to three millimeters in extension and diametral gap c has about twenty-five thousandths of millimeter.
At least one of said bevels 4 and 5, in function of their inclination are maintained apt to be parallel to the inner surface of the (not shown) cylinder when a total inclination of the piston/cylinder set occurs.
It should be understood that the description provided herein on the basis of figures above only refers to one of the possible embodiments of the object of the present invention, wherein the true scope of the invention is defined by the appended claims.
