Abstract
The present invention is an angulated abutment having a standard hexagonal connector (3), and an adjustable body (5) having a form of a section of solid of revolution of angled frustoconical body (2) around vertical center axis of said hexagonal connector (3), said section has an angular range of 30 degrees. Said adjustable body (5) could be modified into angulated abutment body having a possible angular orientation range of ±30 degrees then connected to implant.
Description
UNIVERSAL ANGULATED ABUTMENT
FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to dental attachment devices and, in particular to angulated abutments constructed and operational according to the teachings of the present invention.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In many cases of dental implants the implants are inserted in a non-parallel manner, due to bone architecture.
In regular implant cases, where the implants are inserted in some angle to the desired angle of the prosthetic element, angulated abutments are used. In most cases angulated abutments are coupled to implants via hexagonal male/female connection, this connection allows only six spatial positions of the angulated abutment, wherein each position differs from following one by 60 degrees. In some cases, due to esthetic or anatomic reasons, the desired orientation of the angulated abutment is not achievable due to the limitation of only six possible positions of the said angulated abutment.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is an angulated abutment having a standard hexagonal connector, and a body having an adjustable shape, said adjustable body could be modified into angulated abutment body having a desired spatial orientation of any angle between -30 and +30 degrees then connected to implant.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
By way of example, embodiments of the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying figures of drawings in which:
FIG. 1A is a side view of prior art angulated abutment .
FIG. IB is a cross-section view of prior art angulated abutment .
FIG. 1C is a bottom view of prior art angulated abutment.
FIG. 2A is a side view of angulated abutment of present invention.
FIG. 2B is a bottom view of angulated abutment of present invention.
FIG. 3 is a top view of angulated abutment of present invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF PRESENT INVENTION
The prior art angulated abutment 1, as shown in figures 1A-1C, has an angled body 2 of frustoconical shape. Said angulated abutment is adapted to be coupled to implant via hexagonal connector 3 and secured to implant by a screw which is inserted into opening 4 of said angulated abutment 1 and screwed into implant.
The prior art angulated abutment 1 has only six possible spatial orientations (due to hexagonal connector 3) and therefore exists an angular displacement of 60 degrees between two consecutive positions of said angulated abutment 1. The present invention is an angulated (having vertical angle anywhere between 0 to 45 degrees) abutment having an angled body 5 which could be adjusted into angled body having spatial orientation angle of either between "0" to" +30" degrees or either between "0" to" -30" degrees. The angled body 5 of angulated abutment of present invention has a form of a section of solid of revolution of prior art angled frustoconical body 2, around vertical center axis of
hexagonal connector 3, said section has an angular range from 0 to 30 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise (as shown in fig. 2 A and 2B).
Fig. 3 shows a top surface 6 of angulated abutment of present invention, said top surface has an oval-like or elliptic-like shape (unlike a circular shape of top surface of prior art angulated abutment).
The angled body 5 formed through revolution of prior art angled body 2 could be adjusted into desired shape having spatial orientation anywhere between 0 to 30 degrees by cutting off excess body material, and thus having a possible orientation of 0 to 60 degrees then the abutment is connected to implant, due to six possible positions of hexagonal connector 3 (in one of six possible positions of hexagonal connector 3 the abutment has a maximum orientation angle of "+30" degrees (for abutment having a body in form of a section of solid of clockwise revolution of angled frustoconical body ), in the next consecutive position of hexagonal connector 3, the abutment has a maximum orientation angle of "-30" degrees (for abutment having a body in form of a section of solid of counterclockwise revolution of angled frustoconical body ), thus creating a range of 60 degrees for spatial orientation of angulated abutment of present invention). Although illustrative embodiments have been shown and described, a wide range of modification change and substitution is contemplated in the foregoing disclosure and in some instances, some features of the embodiments may be employed without, a corresponding use of other features. Accordingly, it is appropriate that the appended claims be construed broadly and in a manner consistent with the scope of the
embodiments disclosed herein.
Claims
1. An angulated dental abutment having a hexagonal connector and characterized by: an adjustable body having a form of a section of solid of revolution of angled frustoconical body, around vertical center axis of said hexagonal connector, said section has an angular range of 30 degrees.
2. An angulated dental abutment of claim 1, having a vertical angulation between 0 to 45 degrees.
