Definitions
- Conveyor material of 0 2 obtainable from CuO and MgAl 2 C> 4 and use of said material in the combustion of solids with inherent capture of C0 2
- the present invention relates to the energy sector. More particularly, it refers to a new material with application in the combustion of solids (coal, biomass, coke, oil, solid waste, etc.) using an indirect combustion process (with solid oxygen-generating) to produce energy without emissions of CO2 into the atmosphere.
- solids coal, biomass, coke, oil, solid waste, etc.
- an indirect combustion process with solid oxygen-generating
- the present invention allows the viability of the combustion process of solids with inherent capture of CO2 by means of oxygen transporters, namely, copper based.
- This system has no energy penalty because there is no CO2 separation from any other gas. (except 3 ⁇ 40) and therefore the energy efficiency does not decrease.
- the energy generated in combustion is equivalent to that obtained in conventional combustion.
- the metal oxide particles that are used to transport oxygen in CLC combustion must have acceptable oxidation and reduction rates, as well as sufficient mechanical resistance to limit their breakage and attrition, since they must be circulating continuously between two beds interconnected fluidized.
- the CLC system was initially developed for the use of gaseous fuels, mainly natural gas.
- gaseous fuels mainly natural gas.
- prior gasification is necessary, since it is necessary that the fuel is in gaseous form, which entails an energy and economic penalty in the system.
- separate gasification it is necessary to use a reactor external to the CLC system that gasifies the fuel so that it can be used in the process.
- the gasifying agent is a mixture of 0 2 / water vapor, so an air separation unit is necessary with the consequent high energy expenditure of this unit.
- the oxygen transporter decomposes and releases gaseous oxygen according to the reaction (r.l):
- the reduced conveyor of the reduction reactor is transported to the oxidation reactor, where it reacts with the oxygen in the air (r.3): l / 20 2 + Me x O and _ l ⁇ Me x O y (r.3)
- the total enthalpy released in the reduction and oxidation reactors is the same as in conventional combustion.
- the advantage is that CO 2 and 3 ⁇ 40 are inherently separated from air 2 , therefore there is no separation energy expenditure (see Figure 1). This is the same as with "conventional" CLC technology.
- Oxygen transporters for the CLOU process must have special characteristics necessary to react reversibly with oxygen at high temperature, so that they are capable of releasing oxygen in the reduction reactor and recovering it in the oxidation reactor.
- the CLOU process uses the fact that some metal oxides are capable of generating O2 at high temperature, between 800 ° C and 1200 ° C, and subsequently regenerated with air.
- Possible oxygen transporters have been the metal oxides of: CUO / CU2O, Mn 2 0 3 / Mn 3 0 4 , and C0 3 O 4 / C0O [Mattisson T, Lyngfelt A, Leion H.
- the oxygen transport capacity is very different for the three systems considered: 10 g O2 / IOO g CuO, 6.6 g O2 / IOO g C0 3 O 4 , and 3 g O2 / IOO g Mn 2 0 3 .
- the oxygen transport capacity of the ⁇ 2 ⁇ 3 / ⁇ 3 ⁇ 4 system and of the C0 3 O 4 / C0O system is 33% and 66% respectively with respect to the CUO / CU2O system capacity. For these reasons, the CUO / CU2O system is the most suitable for use in the CLOU process.
- the conveyor object of this invention is based on a copper oxide supported on MgA ⁇ C ⁇ and can be prepared by spray drying. This method is extrapolated on an industrial scale and produces materials with the necessary mechanical resistance to operate in a fluidized bed, as well as with the appropriate chemical properties.
- the authors of this patent have found that the use of a copper conveyor as presented in the present invention makes it possible to obtain a conveyor suitable for the CLOU process.
- the object of the invention is a high reactivity conveyor, which does not agglomerate, with a low attrition rate, and easy preparation, which allows the complete combustion of a solid fuel with inherent capture of CO 2 with low conveyor inventory. .
- a first aspect of this invention relates to an oxygen transport material especially suitable for the solid combustion CLOU process with inherent capture of CO 2 (see Figure 1).
- Said material is based on the CUO / CU 2 O system and is characterized in that it comprises from 30% to 60% by weight of CuO and from 40% to 70% by weight of MgAl 2 0 4 , which acts as support.
- the material will comprise 60% by weight of CuO and 40% by weight of MgAl 2 0 4 .
- the different proportions of these elements are due to the minimum range (30% of CuO) and maximum (60% of CuO) necessary for the proper functioning of the process at the industrial level and can be managed by an expert in the matter for obtaining different alternatives of the oxygen transporter of the invention.
- oxygen transport material object of the invention is characterized by being obtainable from a simple process comprising:
- This calcination step is preferably carried out at 1100 ° C in an air flask, and for a time of 24 h.
- the material thus prepared has a high reactivity, both for the release of oxygen and for its regeneration during a high number of cycles, as well as a high mechanical resistance (greater than 2 N) and a proper fluidization behavior (low attrition rate and absence of agglomeration), which makes it especially suitable for the CLOU process.
- high mechanical strength means the breaking strength of a carrier particle measured in a Shimpo FGN-5X dynamometer, where the particle is placed on the flat surface of the dynamometer and pressure is exerted with a tip until breakage.
- the mechanical resistance value is obtained as the average of a minimum of 20 measurements of the force exerted on the particles until their break expressed in Newtons.
- high reactivity a reduction reaction rate of CuO to CU 2 O that produces almost complete oxygen transport material conversion conversions in less than 1 minute at 950 ° C, or at a rate of the oxidation reaction of CU 2 Or with air that produces almost complete transport oxidation conversions in less than three minutes at 950 ° C.
- low speed of attrition means a low speed of generation of fine particles that are elutriated from the reactor during fluidization of the particles of the oxygen transport material.

Specifically, it represents the results obtained under different operating temperatures (also shown in the figure), with a flow rate of oxygen transport material of 4.2 kg / h and a coal feed of 0.1 kg / h, which corresponds to a oxygen / fuel transport material ratio of 1.2.

- O2 transport material 4.2 kg / h
- coal feed 0.1 kg / h
- the exhaust gases did not contain tar either, since these could be collected at the outlet of the reduction reactor (1) in a train of bubblers located in an ice bath, and were not found. That is, the combustion of volatiles generated by coal was complete at CO2 + H2O.
- coal combustion was improved since the CO2 concentrations in this reactor increased and the CO2 concentrations of the oxidation reactor decreased due to the combustion of residual char from incomplete combustion of coal in the reduction reactor (1).
- the oxygen release rate of the transporter was so high that along with the flue gases an excess of oxygen gas is mediated at the outlet of the reduction reactor.
- the oxygen generation of the transporter reached the equilibrium concentration in the reduction reactor (1), indicating that in these cases the combustion of coal was not limited by the oxygen generation reaction of the transporter but by the fuel combustion reaction.

Description
(CLOU) [Patente SE200500249: Lyngfelt A, and Mattisson .
A, Leion H. "Chemical-looping oxygen uncoupling for combustión of solid fuels", Int J Greenhouse Gas Control (2009); 3: 11-9].
a) mezclar de un 30% a un 60% en peso de CuO y de un 40% a un 70% en peso de MgA^C^;
b) someter la mezcla anterior a una etapa de secado por atomización o spray drying;
c) tamizar el material obtenido en la etapa anterior para obtener un tamaño de partícula comprendido preferentemente entre 100 y 500 mieras;
