Abstract
The present invention relates to a system and method for calculating the speed of a vehicle. That is, the system includes: an electronic control unit for providing a corresponding measurement value by measuring the radius of a tire in real time while a vehicle is driven; and a transmission control unit for calculating the current speed of a vehicle on the basis of a measurement value corresponding to a vehicle driving duration and a real time measurement value of the tire radius, and converting the calculated current speed to a driving distance, and providing the current speed and the driving distance to a cluster in order to display them. Therefore, accuracy in measuring the speed of a vehicle may be improved by detecting the radius change of a tire and reflecting a measurement value of the tire radius when the speed of a vehicle is calculated through the transmission control unit and a measurement value corresponding to a vehicle driving cycle in real time.
