Description
SECURITY SHIETH FOR ELECTRONIC DEVICES
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a security container for electronic devices typically laptop and notebook computers, as well as iPads, iPhones, iPods and similar telephone and computing and personal assistant devices.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
There are known in the art security locks comprising a cable with a loop at one end and an lock on the other and with a T-bar type locking device that fits into a rectangular slot measuring approximately 3x7mm is described in the present inventor's U.S. patent no. 6,553,794 (hereinafter referred as "the T-bar Type Lock Devices" or, for the short, "TTLD"). The contents of both of the aforementioned patents are incorporated by reference herein for all purposes.
The TTLD are commonly used to avoid steeling of laptops.
No comparable securing devices have yet been developed for the protection of smaller, hand-held personal assistant devices such as listed in the preamble above.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Thus provided according to a general aspect of the invention is a security shieth particularly for electronic devices, comprising a first
shieth member comprising a bottom and three upright, L-shaped walls surrounding the bottom, so configured that the electronic device at least partly fits into the space defined within the first shieth member while partly covered by the L-shaped walls. A second shieth member is provided configured as a mirror-image counterpart of the first shieth member to fit over the remaining part of the electronic device in the assembled position of the shieth. An elongated cavity is formed in one of the shieth members. A lock bar projects from the other of the shieth members so that, in said assembled position, the lock bar becomes inserted into the cavity. Means are provided for releasably locking the locking bar within the cavity.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
These and additional constructional features and advantages of the invention will be more fully understood in the light of the ensuing description of a preferred embodiment thereof, given by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein :-
Fig. 1 is a schematic, three-dimensional view of the shieth according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention in an open position;
Fig. 2 shows the shieth of Fig. 1 in the closed and secured position;
Fig. 3 is similar to Fig. 1 but showing more details of construction on an enlarged scale;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken along line IV-IV of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a sectional side-view of the operative components of the shieth of Fig. 1, namely before the interlocking of the two shieth members;
Fig. 6 is a sectional side-view of the operative components of the shieth of Fig. 2, namely in the interlocking position;
Fig. 7 is similar to Fig. 6 but with the TTLD employed for arresting the shieth to an immoveable object; and
Fig. 8 illustrates the stage of releasing the two shieth members from one another.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
As shown in Fig. 1, the T-bar type lock device generally denoted 10 typically comprise a lock-body 12 of the push-button or other class, operable by key 14.
Better seen in Figs. 3 and 4 are T-bar 16 and associated parts which, as known, is rotatable by the key 14 between an unlocked position and the 90° rotated, locking position (see Fig. 7).
The T-bar 16 is mounted at the top of stem 18. A pair of anti- rotation bosses 20a and 20b extend alongside the stem 18.
A steel cable 24, with loop 24a, is affixed to the lock body 12 for arresting thereof to a stationary object such as table leg 26, all as commonly known in the TTLD art.
Referring back to Fig. 1, the security shieth generally designated 30 is comprised of two complementary shieth members 30a and 30b, one being a mirror-image of the other as will be now described.
Shieth member 30a is generally rectangular, made of rigid plastic or metal. It comprised a bottom 32a surrounded from three sides by L- shaped side-walls 34a', 34b' and 34c'.
The geometry of the bottom 32a and side-walls 34a', 34b' and
34c' is such that the device to be protected, e.g. ipad (not shown) can be inserted (partly) by a sliding movement down to a firmly nested position within the shieth member 30a.
At one side of the shieth member bottom 32a there projects a lock bar 36a, formed with an elongated slot 38a (measuring approximately 3x7 mm as customary regarding standard TTLD); at the end of the lock bar 36a there is formed a V-shaped head 40a the function of which will be explained further below.
A hollow, blind cavity 42a is formed at the other side of the bottom 32a, configured to receive thereinside lock bar 36b (see below).
At the outer side of the shieth member 30a, in association with the cavity 42a there are provided a "clicking", spring urged ball device
of 44 any conventional design, as well as a bush-buttom releasing device 46. The device 46 comprises a button 48 with a headed push pin 49 normally retracted by coil spring 50.
Turning now to the other, complementary shieth member 30b, it will be readily seen that it is almost symmetrical relative to the first shieth member 30a.
As further seen in Figs. 5 and 6, a passage 54, of a generally rectangular cross-section is formed, corresponding in size and shape to the slot 38b of the lock bar 36b.
In the assembled, locking position (Fig. 6), the passage 54 and the slot 38b are aligned, which allows the insertion of T-bar 16 and associated bosses 22a and 22b to pass-through while the T-bar projects beyond the slot 38b into a space provided for that purpose within the cavity 42a- see Fig. 7.
Optionally, a transparent cover 52 is hinged to one or the other of shieth members 30a or 30b for protecting the screen of the electronic device (such as ipads or the like hand-held computers or smartphones).
The operation of the security shieth 30 is self-evident in view of the foregoing description and needs not to be further elaborated upon.
Obviously, for every class of hand-held electronic devise (ipad, etc., etc.) a suitably sized shieth must be tailored.
Hence, the invention offers a neat and low cost solution to the addressed problem of avoiding "snatching" of the respective, valuable electronic devices.
Those skilled in the art to which this invention pertains will readily appreciate that numerous changes, variations and modifications can be effectuated without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in and by the appendent claims.
