Description

AN EXPANDABLE ELECTRICAL SOCKET
The current application claims the benefit of US Provisional Patent application no. 61/381,990, filed 12 September 2010, incorporated herein by reference.
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to the field of electrical sockets. More particularly, the invention relates to an expandable electric socket.
Background of the Invention
As of today, many kinds of electrical plugs and sockets exist. However, many of these electrical plugs and sockets consist of a plug that fits into the socket and applies a mechanical force on the socket.
Is would therefore be desired to propose a system void of the problems discussed above.
Summary of the Invention
It is an object of the present invention to provide an expandable electrical socket which is not limited to a preset number of sockets.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a modular expandable electrical plug and socket. It is still another object of the present invention to provide a modular expandable electrical plug and socket having mechanical fasteners for stability and support.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the description proceeds.
The present invention relates to a modular expandable socket device comprising: (a) a socket for connecting electrical appliances.' (b) at least one slot for interconnecting at least one more expandable socket; and (c) a case for encasing said socket and said at least one interconnecting slot.
In one embodiment, the device further comprises a plug for inserting the modular expandable socket into an electrical socket.
In one embodiment, the device further comprises an interconnecting plug for connecting into the interconnecting slot.
Preferably, the case is made of an isolating plastic.
Brief Description of the Drawings
Embodiments and features of the present invention are described herein in conjunction with the following drawings '
Fig. 1 is an isometric front view schematic diagram of the main module of the expandable electrical plug and socket, according to an embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is an isometric rear view schematic diagram of the main module of the expandable electrical plug and socket, according to an embodiment of the invention.
- Fig. 3 is an isometric schematic diagram of a leftward expansion process of the expandable electrical plug and socket, according to an embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 4 is an isometric schematic diagram of a leftward expanded electrical plug and socket, according to an embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 5 is an isometric schematic diagram of a programmable time switch connected as an expansion to the electrical plug and socket, according to an embodiment of the invention.
Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments
The present invention will be understood from the following detailed description of preferred embodiments, which are meant to be descriptive and not limiting. For the sake of brevity, some well-known features, methods, systems, procedures, components, circuits, and so on, are not described in detail.
Fig. 1 is an isometric front view schematic diagram of the main module of the expandable electrical plug and socket, according to an embodiment of the invention. Any referrals to sides such back, front, etc. is used for the sake of brevity and are not meant to be interpreted in any limiting way. The main module 10 comprises^ a plug (not shown) in its back side, which is designed to fit into an electrical socket, an electrical socket 12 in its front side, and expansion slots 14 on its four sides. The expansion sockets 14 may be used for interconnecting secondary modules. Other numbers of expansion slots may be implemented in the main module 10.
Fig. 2 is an isometric rear view schematic diagram of the main module of the expandable electrical plug and socket, according to an embodiment of the invention. The main module 10 comprises^ an electrical plug 16 in its back side, which is designed to fit into an electrical socket, an electrical socket (not shown) in its front side, and expansion slots 14 on its four sides. Fig. 3 is an isometric schematic diagram of a leftward expansion process of the expandable electrical plug and socket, according to an embodiment of the invention. The expansion process comprises attaching to the main module 10, secondary modules 22 using the expansion slots 14. In one embodiment secondary modules 22 may be attached on all four sides of the main module 10. In the diagram, a secondary module 22 is connected to the left side of the main module 10 by inserting the expansion plug 20 of the secondary module 22 into the left slot 14 of the main module 10. The secondary module 22 may also be expanded to all it four sides, according to one of the embodiments. Thus modular expansions of different shapes and sizes may be formed. Each of the modules, the main module 10 and the secondary module 22, comprises an electrical socket 12 for connecting electrical appliances. The main module 10 also comprises an electrical plug 16 for feeding electrical current to its socket 12 and feeding current to its expansion slots 14 for the interconnecting modules 22 and their sockets 12.
Fig. 4 is an isometric schematic diagram of a leftward expanded electrical plug and socket, according to an embodiment of the invention. In the diagram the expansion of the electrical socket is limited due to a wall 24 near its right side and the shelf 26 near its bottom. Therefore, the main module 10 may be expanded by the secondary module 22 to the left.
Fig. 5 is an isometric schematic diagram of a programmable time switch connected as an expansion to the electrical plug and socket, according to an embodiment of the invention. A programmable time switch 28 may be connected to the main module 10, and a secondary module 22 may be connected to the programmable time switch. Other modules may be connected as well such as a residual-current device, thunder-safe and voltage-peak safe sockets, timers, lights, or any other electrical modules. Furthermore, other electrical sockets may be implemented in the modules, such as the US standard socket.
The interconnecting plug and slot may be reinforced by mechanical pressure or spring pressure. The mechanical connection provides safe and sound electricity connection without loose connections. The modular connection provides strength and mechanical stability in addition to aesthetic appearances.
The case of the modules may be made of an insulating material such as plastic.
The foregoing description and illustrations of the embodiments of the invention have been presented for the purposes of illustration. It is not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the above description in any form. Any term that has been defined above and used in the claims, should to be interpreted according to this definition.
