Description

[Corrected under Rule 26 21.04.2011] METHOD AND PLANT FOR DEDUSTING A STREAM OF DUST-LADEN GASES IN A HYBRID FILTER INSTALLATION
The present invention relates to a method for dedusting a stream of dust-laden gases in a hybrid filter installation, wherein dust-laden gases are dedusted in an electrostatic precipitator (ESP) having ducts provided with grounded collecting plates and high voltage electrodes and a fabric filter (FF). The invention also relates to a plant for carrying out the method.
Hybrid filter installations of the aforementioned kind are well known and widely used within e.g. the cement manufacturing industry. The average cleaning efficiency of a normal working ESP is about 99.9 % and the dust leaving the ESP suspended in the gases is mono-modal and constitutes the finest fraction of the dust which entered the ESP with the gases. This leads to an often very dense dust cake with low permeability on the FF and hence a high pressure loss over the FF. The dense dust cake on the FF requires a high cleaning frequency and thus high compressed air consumption and a relatively short life of the filter media used in the FF. Further, it may also leads to a relatively high dust emission from the plant.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a method as well as a plant for dedusting a stream of dust-laden gases in a hybrid filter installation by means of which the aforementioned disadvantages are eliminated or significantly reduced.
According to the invention this is achieved by a method of the kind mentioned in the introduction, and being characterized in that a part of the stream of dust-laden gases are bypassed the ducts in the ESP provided with grounded collecting plates and high voltage electrodes, and in that the bypassed dust-laden gases are mixed with dust-laden gases which have passed through ducts in the ESP provided with grounded collecting plates and high voltage electrodes before the mixed dust-laden gases are conducted to the FF.
It is hereby obtained, that the dust in the dust-laden gases conducted to the FF is coarser, causing the filter cake on the FF to be of higher permeability, thus decreasing the pressure loss over the filter media in the FF, improving the filter media life time and reducing the use of compressed air for cleaning. Further, a lower dust emission from the plant is obtained. This is due to the fact that a considerable agglomeration of the dust particles takes place when the bypassed uncharged dust-laden gases and the charged dust-laden gases, which have passed through ducts in the ESP provided with grounded collecting plates and high voltage electrodes, are mixed, thus resulting in an overall coarser particle size distribution prior to settling on the FF filter media.
The plant for carrying out the method according to the invention comprises a hybrid filter installation, wherein dust-laden gases are dedusted in an electrostatic precipitator (ESP) having ducts provided with grounded collecting plates and high voltage electrodes and a fabric filter (FF), and is characterized in that it comprises means for bypassing a part of the stream of dust-laden gases the ducts in the ESP provided with grounded collecting plates and high voltage electrodes, a mixing zone for mixing the bypassed dust-laden gases with dust-laden gases which have passed through ducts in the ESP provided with grounded collecting plates and high voltage electrodes before the mixed dust-laden gases are conducted to the FF.
The means for bypassing a part of the stream of dust-laden gases the ducts in the ESP provided with grounded collecting plates and high voltage electrodes may be a duct connecting an inlet duct to the ESP with outlet end of the ESP thus enabling a part of the dust-laden gases to be bypassed the ESP. Such bypass duct may preferable be provided with means for regulating the gas flow through it. The bypassing means may also be ducts within the ESP itself, and may preferably be provided in between the ducts provided with grounded collecting plates and high voltages electrodes. In the latter embodiment a better mixing ensuring bipolar agglomeration is obtained.
The mixing zone may comprise mixing screens of the kind already marketed by the applicant of the present patent application.
The invention is applicable for filter installations where the ESP and the FF are fitted within the same casing as well as where they are fitted within each their separate casing.
The invention will now be explained in further details with reference to the drawing, being diagrammatical, and where
Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of a hybrid filter installation according to the invention.
In Fig. 1 is seen a hybrid filter installation for dedusting a stream of dust-laden gases and comprising an ESP 1 having an inlet duct 7 for gases to be dedusted, ducts 2 defined by grounded collecting plates 6 and provided with high voltage electrodes 3 and a FF 4 in form of a bag filter having bags 5.
During operation of the hybrid filter installation a stream of dust-laden gases to be dedusted are first introduced through the inlet duct 7 to the ESP 1, wherein the gases in traditional way are dedusted by being electrically charged by high voltages electrodes 3 provided in ducts 2 and collected by collecting plates 6, which are frequently cleaned by rapping means, not shown. After the ESP 1 the dust-laden gases are conducted to the FF 4, which as shown, may be a bag filter, wherein the gases are drawn through the bags 5 by means of a fan, not shown, while the dust settles on the outer side of the bags 5, thus creating a filter cake, which frequently is cleaned off by back flushing or compressed air pulsing.
In order to obtain that the dust in the dust-laden gases conducted to the FF 4 is coarser, causing the filter cake on the FF 4 to be of higher permeability, thus decreasing the pressure loss over the filter media in the FF 4, improving the filter media life time and reducing the use of compressed air for cleaning, it is suggested according to the present invention that a part of the stream of dust-laden gases are bypassed the ducts 2 in the ESP 1 provided with grounded collecting plates 6 and high voltage electrodes 3, and in that the bypassed dust-laden gases are mixed in a mixing zone 9 with dust-laden gases which have passed through ducts in the ESP 1 provided with grounded collecting plates 6 and high voltage electrodes 3 before the mixed dust-laden gases are conducted to the FF 4.
In the shown embodiment a part of the stream of dust-laden gases are bypassed the ducts 2 in the ESP 1 provided with grounded collecting plates 6 and high voltage electrodes 3 through ducts 8 within the ESP 1 itself, which ducts 8 are provided in between the ducts 2 provided with grounded collecting plates 6 and high voltages electrodes 3.
The mixing zone 9 may comprise mixing screens 10 of the kind already marketed by the applicant of the present patent application.
