Description

A Spacing, Levelling, Separating and Aligning Device for
Laying Tiles .
Technical Field.
The present invention relates to a levelling and separating and aligning device for laying tiles.
The present invention is mainly applicable in the field of construction, and in particular the laying of flooring or tiled walls.
In flooring or wall covering the tiles are cemented onto supports that are not always perfectly flat.
The greatest difficulties in laying are connected with the elimination of non-planar levels (prongs) between tiles and in the achievement of regularity in the space between tiles, i.e. the obtaining of a uniform distance between the tiles.
Prior Art.
In this aspect, manual devices are known which enable levelling of tiles.
These devices however do not enable, without the help of further spacer elements, an obtaining of spaces of greater dimensions than those determined by the spacer wall, nor does it enable obtaining an aligning of the tiles at the cross points (which are either crossed or T-shaped) .
Devices are known which are essentially made up of two bodies, i.e. a support and a presser body.
The support exhibits a rest base and a portal structure that projects perpendicularly to the base.
The base is in part immersed in the adhesive and two or more tiles are in part positioned thereon. In use, the support base is positioned below two or more tiles such that the edges of two adjacent tiles abut on the respective spacer wall such as to be separated.
The presser body is simply a wedge, which is slid on the tiles up to when an abutting surface thereof engages with the cross-piece of the portal structure such as to determine a pressure that is perpendicular to the tiles. In this way, the tiles are pressed between the base and the wedge, enabling a levelling to be performed.
Once the adhesive has dried, the wedge is removed and the portal structure is eliminated by breaking off, for which, in proximity of the lower part proximal to the base, a predefined easy-break element is arranged. The base remains sunken below the tiles.
In other words, the support is a single-use element, as it is not recoverable after first use.
The sliding of the wedge can disadvantageously cause a dealignment of the tiles.
Further, the slit for passage of the wedge varies according to the thickness of the tile, and consequently it is necessary to use supports of different type (of different measurements and proportions), which heavily influences costs for supplying these parts.
In this context, the technical objective underpinning the present invention is to provide a spacing, levelling and aligning device for laying tiles which obviates the drawbacks in the prior art as described herein above. In particular, an aim of the present invention is to provide a spacing, levelling and aligning device for laying tiles, which provides a more precise and better laying quality. Further, another aim of the invention is to provide a spacing, levelling and aligning device for laying tiles which is versatile and economical.
The technical objective and the set aims are substantially attained by a spacing, levelling and aligning device to be used in laying tiles, comprising the technical characteristics set out in one or more of the accompanying claims.
Description of the Invention.
Further characteristics and advantages of the present invention will better emerge from an indicative and non- limiting description of a few non-exclusive preferred embodiments of the invention, as illustrated in the accompanying figures of the drawings, in which:
- figure 1 is a perspective view of a device according to the present invention;
- figure 2 is a perspective exploded view of the device of figure 1;
- figure 3 is a perspective view in larger scale of the spacer body 4 of figures 1 and 2 in a different operating configuration in which the surface 4b facing upwards is shown;
- figure 3a illustrates a perspective view of a second embodiment of the spacer body 4 in the operating configuration with the surface facing upwards;
- figure 4 is a perspective view of a plurality of devices according to the present invention in respective use configurations.
With reference to the accompanying figures of the drawings, 1 denotes a spacing, levelling and aligning device for laying slabs, tiles and the like which comprises a support 2 exhibiting a rest base 5 for at least two contiguous tiles 6, i.e. flanked to one another, and an abutting portion 11 developing in a distancing direction from the base 5. The support 2 further exhibits a spacer portion 7 protruding in a distancing direction from the base 5 which spacer portion is destined to define a space 8 between the two tiles 6.
A spacer body 4, having a predetermined thickness, is placeable between the base 5 of the support 2 and the relative abutment portion 11 such as to define a slit for passage 15 of a part of a presser wedge 3 between the abutting portion 11 and the spacer body 4.
The said -presser wedge 3 is slidably insertable in said slit 15 such as to reciprocally near the base 5 of the support 2 and the spacer body 4 and thus to clamp the tiles 6 in a sort of vice, producing a levelling thereof .
The support 2 also comprises two spacer portions 7 protruding distancingly from the base 5, which also have a guide function as they are slidingly couplable internally of a slit 18 afforded in the spacer body 4. In this way the spacer body 4 is slidably constrained along the guide constituted by the spacer portions 7 in a nearing or distancing direction to or from the base 5.
The two spacer portions 7, which are arranged as two reciprocally-parallel uprights, emerge perpendicular to the base 5 of the support 2.
The slit 18 of the spacer body 4 is at least partly complementarily-shaped to the two spacer portions 7 such as to slidingly couple there-with, with a determined amount of play. The slit 18 is dimensioned such as to enable free passage of the whole abutting portion 11 which joins the two tops of the spacer portions 7 in such a way as to define overall a portal structure.
The spacer body 4 is substantially superposable at least on the base 5 when it is coupled, via the slit 18, with the two spacer portions 7.
In particular, the spacer body 4 exhibits a first surface 4a and a second surface 4b, opposite one another and selectively positionable facing the base 5.
The first surface 4a exhibits at least a protruding elongate spacer portion 19 developing with a predetermined inclination with respect to said slit 18. The elongate spacer portion 19 is dimensioned such as to space two tiles 6 having flanked edges when the spacer body 4 is facing the base 5.
The spacer body 4 also comprises at least two spacer elements 23 protruding from the surface 4a and aligned to the slit 18.
In the operating arrangement with the surface 4a facing the base 5, the spacer body 4 is positioned at the cross between three tiles (T-arrangement ) or more tiles (in the illustrated case of four tiles in a cross- arrangement) .
Spacer elements 23, also aligned with the slit 18, are present on the surface 4b (see figure 3) , which is substantially equal in both illustrated embodiments.
The use of the surface 4b in contact with the tiles is made, for example, in a case in which only the spacer elements positioned on the crosses between the tiles (T- or cross-type) were not sufficient for obtaining perfect levelling of the tiles (for example in the case of large formats) ; the spacer bodies 4 with the surfaces 4b facing the base 5 can be positioned at the sides of the tiles at intermediate points between the cross points. The presence of a sole elongate spacer portion 19 arranged at a side of the slit 18 with a disposition perpendicular thereto (see figure 3a) enables using the invention for performing the spacing, the levelling and the aligning in a case in which the tiles 6 are three in number and are arranged such as to generate a T-shaped space line.
The first illustrated embodiment comprises the presence of two elongate spacer portions 19 reciprocally aligned and arranged symmetrically perpendicular to the slit 18. This enables the spacing, the levelling and the aligning to be done in the case of the cross-shape type, i.e. in a case in which the tiles 6 are four in number and arranged such as to generate a space in a cross-shape. The use of the embodiment of the invention is also possible in all the situations that can occur for laying tiles of a rectangular or square shape.
The presser wedge 3 exhibits a longitudinal groove 26 which can be superposed with a predetermined amount of play on the elongate spacer portion or portions 19 such as to enable the presser wedge 3 to slide on the spacer body 4 when the second surface 4b is facing the base 5. In this situation the surface 4b is in contact with the flanked tiles, from which surface 4b only the spacer elements 23 project; the space can be realised by means of the spacer elements 23 at intermediate points along the flanked sides of the tiles 6. The wedge 3 normally performs its function by being able to slide freely as it is not disturbed by the presence of the elongate spacer portions 19 which remain housed internally of the groove 26.
For realising a cross it is sufficient to turn the spacer body 4 such that the surface 4a facing the tiles is the surface 4a bearing the elongate spacer portions 19. In this way a cross-type spacing is achieved which has on a side thereof the elongate spacer portions 19 and the relative spacer elements 23 inserted between the edges of the tiles.
The insertion of the presser wedge 3 is done without impediment on the surface 4b of the spacer body 4.
This enables avoiding, during mounting, dragging of the presser wedge on the upper surfaces of the tiles and also enables operating by exerting perpendicular forces on the portions of the upper surfaces of the tiles via the contact with the spacer body 4.
When the adhesive has taken grip, the whole portal structure is eliminated by using a pre-made fracture line located at the base of the spacer portions 7. In this way the presser wedge 3 and the spacer body 4 are freed and can be re-used.
Note that among the various advantages it presents, the invention also enables using a single type of support 2 (exhibiting the rest base 5) as the spacer portions 7 can be of a standard predetermined thickness whatever the width of the space line to be realised. The width of the space is determined only by the transversal dimensions of the spacer elements 23 and the elongate spacer portions 19. These elements all belong to the spacer body 4, which is recoverable after each application, as are the presser wedges 3. Thus the invention enables the elements to be used many times. The only component that is used once only is the base 2 which has no need to be produced with sizes the are strictly dependent on the dimensions of the space lines, as the space line dimensions are essentially determined by the spacer elements 23 and the elongate spacer portions 19 which all belong to and are concentrated in the spacer body 4, which is not used once only but can be retained for further use.
A further advantage of the invention is the possibility of realising the base 2 and the development in height of the spacer portions 7 such that the slit 15 is usable for performing the alignment, separation and levelling for slabs and/or tiles in a broad range of thicknesses: from slim slabs of a few millimetres to marble slabs or stone materials of a few centimetres.
