A WEB CONTENT CUSTOMIZATION SYSTEM
FIELD OF INVENTION The present invention relates to a web customization system to aggregate and syndicate content according to a user's profile.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION The World Wide Web allows a computer server to send information contained in web pages to a remote client computer. The challenge faced by some users are how to efficiently locate, access, and use information and applications that are relevant, have suitable display resolution and format for display and have interactive content based on the associated demographics.
More specifically, this refers to people who are non-Information Technology (IT) literate or have low IT literacy levels, and who normally live in rural areas, or even the elderly who are not as IT-sawy as the rest of the population, or those with a low income. Each of the web sources may maintain information in a different format. For instance, layout and content from different web pages are designed differently and require a user to learn and relearn navigation of a website. This will certainly pose as a challenge for some segments of the population. Furthermore, different resolutions will result in web pages not being displayed accurately on different devices with different screen sizes. A user may want to access
information from notebooks, netbooks, personal computers, personal digital assistants, smartphones, and Mobile Internet Devices.
Therefore there is a need for a solution for a user to effectively receive content from the web in a manner as desired by the users and the information should be periodically updated in order to be up-to-date against the current state of the original invention.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
Accordingly there is provided a web content customization system consisting of an application server, characterized in that, the web content customization system includes at least one web content extracting means, at least one content aggregator portal, wherein the web content extracting means and content aggregator portal is operational on the application server, at least one data repository, wherein the data repository stores extracted content from the web content extractor, a text to speech conversion means, wherein text from the web content extractor is convertible to an audio data, a plurality of user devices, at least one audio data streaming means, wherein the audio data is streamed into the user devices, wherein web content is extracted from the network to be customized according to users' needs and streamed into user devices. There is also provided a method of customizing web content consisting of an application server, characterized in that, the method includes the steps of selecting required web content, extracting targeted web content, converting text input into audio through web service, storing extracted data from web content in a repository, verifying users' metadata through users' selection of application from user device, applying categorization algorithm to the stored data, formatting data into user selected application format based on user metadata, displaying formatted target web content to user and streaming audio data based on targeted web content.
The present invention consists of several novel features and a combination of parts hereinafter fully described and illustrated in the accompanying description and drawings, it being understood that various changes in the details may be made without
departing from the scope of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages of the present invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The present invention will be fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, wherein:
Figure 1 illustrates an overall system architecture to display targeted web content in a customized template, based on user profile and associated groups;
Figure 2 illustrates a flow diagram describing the steps to display customized and targeted contents.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
The present invention relates to a web customization system to aggregate and syndicate content. Hereinafter, this specification will describe the present invention according to the preferred embodiments of the present invention. However, it is to be understood that limiting the description to the preferred embodiments of the invention is merely to facilitate discussion of the present invention and it is envisioned that those skilled in the art may devise various modifications and equivalents without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
The following detailed description of the preferred embodiments will now be described in accordance with the attached drawings, either individually or in combination.
An embodiment of the present invention as shown in Figure 1 provides for a web content customization system consisting of an application server, wherein the web content customization system includes at least one web content extracting means, at least one content aggregator portal, wherein the web content extracting means and content aggregator portal is operational on the application server, at least one data repository, wherein the data repository stores extracted content from the web content extractor, a text to speech conversion means, wherein text from the web content extractor is convertible to an audio data, a plurality of user devices, at least one audio data streaming means, such as an audio data streaming server, wherein the audio data is streamed into the user devices, wherein web content is extracted from the network to be customized according to users' needs and streamed into the user devices. The user devices may be selected, but not restricted to, from a group of devices such as personal computer, notebook, netbook, personal digital assistant, smartphone and all other similar devices connected over a network or the Internet.
The embodiment of a web content customization system that is described is a content aggregator and management system. The web content extracting means include scheduled and ad-hoc web extraction for web mining purposes. The content aggregator portal manages users, groups, content display templates, tag matching mechanism component and a content feed syndicator.
The various servers used within the system include data repository servers, authentications servers, text-to-speech conversion servers, and audio streaming servers.
Figure 2 depicts a detailed flow diagram describing a method of customizing web content consisting of an application server, where the method includes the steps of selecting required web content, extracting targeted web content, converting text input into audio through web service, storing extracted data from web content in a repository, verifying users' metadata through users' selection of application from user device, applying categorization algorithm to the stored data, formatting data into user selected application format based on user metadata, displaying formatted target web content to user and streaming audio data based on targeted web content. The method describes an interaction between a client, such as user devices, and a content aggregator system such as a web content customization system to display customized and targeted content.
An embodiment of the method is further described below. A desired web link is specified before any web mining activity is conducted by the web content extracting means. Two alternatives are presented by the web content extracting means which include scheduled or ad-hoc based. Scheduled web content extracting further include
web content that is dynamic and is executable on a daily basis or with a specific scheduling time. For example, news content live feed. Ad-hoc web content extracting is web content that is static and hardly changes. Extracted web content is converted from its original format, which is in a text format, to an audio format by triggering a web service call to text-to-speech server. The converted audio data is then stored in a dedicated audio streaming server.
Verification of user metadata is handled by the content aggregator portal based on user profiles and a selected group. The content aggregator portal is then triggered whenever a user selects an application from their device to get their targeted content.
A customized feed syndicator applies a categorization mechanism to provide a match content feed to the user based on previous data gathered about the user and tags assigned to content from the Internet. The feed syndicator then suggests the content feed to the user. When a user selects the feed, the system triggers content viewer to format the content template based on gathered metadata. Finally, the customized template for display and an associated audio file is streamed from the audio streaming server to the user device.
It is to be understood that the embodiments of the invention described are exchangeable for other variations of the same in order to be used in various applications. The present embodiment of the invention is intended for, but not restricted to, use in the web content management.
