Definitions
- the present invention relates to a PON (Passive Optical Network) system having an OLT (Optical Line Termination: subscriber accommodation device) and a plurality of ONUs (Optical Network Unit: optical subscriber termination device), and more particularly to a transformer in a burst signal receiver.
- the present invention relates to a technique effective when applied to a gain switching technique in an impedance amplifier.
- the PON system is a high-speed / large-capacity optical access system in which an optical fiber transmission line and an OLT are shared by a plurality of ONUs, and is attracting attention as a technology capable of suppressing the cost per user.
- the optical signal (downstream signal) from the OLT to the ONU is a continuous signal, but the optical signal (upstream signal) from the ONU to the OLT is subjected to transmission control by the OLT to prevent a collision, and the burst signal
- the OLT since the distance between the ONU and the OLT varies depending on the user, the OLT receives different levels of optical signals. Accordingly, the OLT needs to have a receiver that has high reception sensitivity and can achieve a wide dynamic range.
- Patent Document 1 discloses a transimpedance amplifier that compares an instantaneous value of an output voltage with a threshold voltage and controls a gain switching circuit according to the result. According to this method, by providing the gain switching determination circuit with a hysteresis characteristic, the gain switching operation is performed based on the result of comparison and determination based on the first hysteresis characteristic, and then the voltage detection level lower than that of the first hysteresis characteristic. A configuration is shown in which the gain switching operation is stopped and the gain is fixed based on the result of comparison and determination by the second hysteresis characteristic.
- the above-described conventional technology has the following problems.
- noise is generated due to various factors. For example, reflection of a downstream signal transmitted from the OLT, leakage light from another ONU, a reset signal in the OLT, and the like can be given.
- the gain of the transimpedance amplifier is set to be small by the operation of the gain determination switching circuit.
- the burst signal received or being received after this switching is a signal with a low input level that should not actually reduce the gain, it is not sufficiently amplified, resulting in a decrease in reception sensitivity.
- the gain switching type transimpedance amplifier in the burst signal receiver included in the OLT of the PON system needs a function of switching to an appropriate gain for the burst signal without switching the gain when receiving noise. is there.
- an object of the present invention is to prevent unnecessary gain switching that occurs when noise is received in a gain switching transimpedance amplifier in a burst signal receiver included in an OLT of a PON system, and to receive noise with a large input level. It is another object of the present invention to provide a technique capable of preventing a reduction in sensitivity that occurs when a burst signal having a low input level is received.
- the outline of a typical one is that in a transimpedance amplifier that switches the gain small when a burst signal having a high optical input level is input, a preamplifier to which the burst signal is input, the output of the preamplifier, and the first An average detection start determination unit for comparing the threshold voltage of the preamplifier, and an average detection circuit for detecting and outputting an average value of the output of the preamplifier for a predetermined time from when the output of the preamplifier exceeds the first threshold voltage And a gain switching control unit that determines whether or not to switch the gain of the preamplifier based on the output of the average detection circuit.
- the output voltage from the preamplifier is compared with the first threshold voltage, and when the output voltage exceeds the first threshold voltage, the average value of the output voltage for a certain time is detected, and the average By reducing the gain when the value exceeds the second threshold voltage, an appropriate output waveform is obtained corresponding to a burst signal having a large input level.
- the effect obtained by the representative one is that the gain switching type transimpedance amplifier receives the noise caused by the reflection of the downstream signal transmitted by the OLT, the leaked light from other ONUs, the reset signal in the OLT, etc. It is possible to prevent unnecessary gain switching that occurs in some cases, and to prevent a decrease in sensitivity when a burst signal with a low input level is received after receiving noise with a high input level.

At the same time as Ssh 412 goes to the Low level, Ssw 411 is set to the Low level to return to the state where the time constant of the initial state is small. In this way, after the detection of the average value is started, the average value can be quickly reached by reducing the time constant of the integration circuit 420 at the beginning, and the time after Vout 20 exceeds the threshold voltage 1 is reached. In addition, it is possible to prevent a decrease in sensitivity when a burst signal with a low input level is received after receiving noise with a high input level.
- the average value of the output of the preamplifier 200 for a certain period of time is used for the determination of gain switching. Unnecessary switching can be avoided.
- the gain switching is executed according to the input level as in the operation of the first embodiment.
- a transimpedance amplifier according to a third embodiment of the present invention will be described below with reference to FIG.
- the difference from the circuit configuration in the first and second embodiments is the configuration of the preamplifier 200 and the gain switching control unit 500.
- the preamplifier 200 has two feedback resistors connected in parallel in the first and second embodiments, but in this embodiment, four feedback resistors are connected in parallel. Specifically, it comprises an inverting amplifier 210, feedback resistors 220, 230, 250, 270 connected in parallel thereto, and switches 240, 260, 280 connected in series to the feedback resistors 230, 250, 270. .
- the gain switching control unit 500 includes one comparator in the first and second embodiments, and compares the average value Vave40 and the threshold voltage 2, but in this embodiment, the three comparators 510 and 530 are compared. 550, the three threshold voltages 2, 3, 4 and the average value Vave40 are compared.
- the magnitude relationship of the threshold voltages is threshold voltage 2 ⁇ threshold voltage 3 ⁇ threshold voltage 4, and the gain switching signal transmission circuits 520, 540, and 560 have outputs from the corresponding comparators 510, 530, and 550, respectively.
- the gain switching signals 60, 70, 80 are transmitted to the preamplifier 200, and the switches 240, 260, 280 are closed. As a result, it is possible to use four gain values together with the initial state.
- the burst signal 11 is input to the preamplifier 200 at time T4 and the average detection start determination unit 300 determines that Vout20 exceeds the threshold voltage 1 at time T5. Then, like the operations in the first and second embodiments, the average value of Vout 20 over time T is detected by the average detection circuit 400 and output to the gain switching control unit 500 as Vave 40.
- Vave 40 is compared with threshold voltages 2, 3, and 4 in comparators 510, 530, and 550 included in gain switching control section 500, respectively.
- Vave 40 exceeds threshold voltages 2 and 3, and 4 does not exceed (threshold voltage 2 ⁇ threshold voltage 3 ⁇ Vave 40 ⁇ threshold voltage 4), so the outputs of comparators 510 and 530 are at a high level. Accordingly, the gain switching signal transmission circuits 520 and 540 set the gain switching signals 60 and 70 to the high level, and close the switches 240 and 260 in the preamplifier 200.
- the gain switching signal 80 is not transmitted. Since the switches 240 and 260 are closed, the preamplifier 200 is in a state where the feedback resistors 220, 230, and 250 are connected in parallel, and the gain is reduced.
- the gain switching signal transmission circuits 520 and 540 receive the signal of the external reset 50 at time T7, the signal returns to the low level again, and the switches 240 and 260 are opened.
- a settable gain value can be increased, and a wider dynamic range can be secured.
- the gain switching control unit 500 in this embodiment includes a comparator 510 and a gain switching signal transmission circuit 580.
- the gain switching signal transmission circuit 580 detects the rise of the output of the comparator 510 from the low level to the high level.
- a circuit that transmits a gain switching signal corresponding to the number of times is used.
- the gain switching signal generation circuit 580 can be realized by using a counter circuit, for example.
- the average detection circuit 450 in this embodiment transmits the reset signal 90 to the average detection signal transmission circuit 330 while outputting the average value Vave40, and the average detection signal transmission circuit 330 does not transmit the average detection signal 30 during that time. Like that. By adopting such a configuration, it is possible to switch the four gain values in stages according to the input level.
- the burst signal 11 is input to the preamplifier 200 at time T4 and the average detection start determination unit 300 determines that Vout20 exceeds the threshold voltage 1 at time T5.
- the average value of Vout 20 during the time T is detected by the average detection circuit 450 and output to the gain switching control unit 500 as Vave 40.
- the Vave 40 is compared with the threshold voltage 2 in the comparator 510 included in the gain switching control unit 500, and it is determined that the Vave 40 has exceeded the threshold voltage 2. Therefore, the output of the comparator 510 becomes High level.
- the gain switching signal transmission circuit 580 detects the first rise of the output of the comparator 510, so that the gain switching signal 60 is set to the high level and the switch 240 in the preamplifier 200 is closed.
- the average detection circuit 450 transmits the reset signal 90 to the average detection signal transmission circuit 330 until time T7 when the Vave 40 is output to the gain switching control unit 500, during which the average detection signal transmission circuit 330 detects the average. Control is performed so that the signal 30 is not transmitted.
- the average detection start determination unit 300 again sets Vout 20 and the threshold voltage 1 at time T7.
- Vout20 exceeds the threshold voltage 1
- the average detection signal 30 is transmitted to the average detection circuit 450, and the average value is detected.
- Vave 40 again exceeds the threshold voltage 2
- the gain switching signal transmission circuit 580 detects the second rise of the output of the comparator 510 and closes the switch 260 by setting the gain switching signal 70 to the high level. And further reduce the gain.
- the gain switching operation is performed.
- the signal transmission circuit 580 detects the third rise of the signal of the comparator 510, the switch 280 is closed by transmitting the gain switching signal 80, and the gain becomes the smallest.
- the gain switching signal transmission circuit 580 receives the signal of the external reset 50 at time T11, all gain switching signals return to the low level, and the switches 240, 260, and 280 are opened. .
- the gain can be reduced stepwise in accordance with the input level to the transimpedance amplifier.
- the present invention relates to a PON system having an OLT and a plurality of ONUs, and is particularly applicable to a gain switching technique in a transimpedance amplifier in a burst signal receiver.
