Description

DISPOSITIVOS 1NMOVILIZADORES TEMPORALES Y DESECHABLES DEL TIPO FÉRULAS ORTOPÉDICAS TEMPORARY AND DISPOSABLE MOVEMENT DEVICES OF THE ORTHOPEDIC SPLITS TYPE
The present invention is developed in the field of medicine. Particularly, the present invention provides novel temporary and disposable immobilizer devices of the orthopedic splints type for the immobilization of the neck, arms and legs, when they have suffered from injuries and require pre-hospital care and first aid.
ANTECEDENTES DE LA INVENCIÓNBACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
It is well known that traffic accidents in Colombia constitute a serious public health problem that continue to be an alarming factor for society, given that they generate consequences such as the death of the victim or serious disturbances of well-being in the survivors. Among these alterations are cervical lesions and those produced in the upper and lower limbs, which can lead to a temporary or definitive disability of the patient. Under these circumstances, the management provided to such injuries during initial or pre-hospital or first aid care is of great importance. In general, the personnel responsible for the care of these injuries know very well that at the time they occur, both the neck and the extremities constitute unstable parts of the body that must be immobilized efficiently to facilitate their displacement and avoid subsequent complications.
A variety of immobilizer devices are currently available that serve the purposes of immobilizing neck and limbs in case of suffer trauma For example, in the case of neck restraints there are several splint-type devices, such as collars commonly known as "Philadelphia" and "Ambú or multitalla" collars. However, it is well known that such collars are very expensive, which significantly limits their use. For example, in each ambulance only two to three collars are available, and this situation makes them unable to meet the needs in case of massive events or catastrophes. The same situation occurs in different hospitals, clinics and first aid centers. Thus, in case of an accident, or a massive situation of patients with injuries, the pre-hospital care agency has to wait for the return of the immobilizers by the clinic or the hospital to which the injured person moved. These waits are usually very prolonged because patients take time to be evaluated while all the necessary medical procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of injuries are carried out, which considerably delays the return of splints that have been used in patients . This situation leads to generating long waits, sometimes fatal for pre-hospital care teams (ambulances, doctors, paramedics, etc.) while receiving their return; and it is also possible that patients are exposed to infections or discomfort from the massive use of immobilizers, given that the materials from which these devices are manufactured are not adequate to allow the correct perspiration of tissues. Additionally, in countries like ours, where resources are limited, it is not possible to discard these elements every time an accident is attended due to the high cost that this implies for emergency and first response agencies.
Similarly, the high cost of plastic, polypropylene and resins immobilizers available in the market makes it difficult to implement in places and institutions such as schools, hotels, sports clubs, gyms, armed forces and public transport vehicles, schoolchildren and individuals, where the occurrence of minor accidents that, in any case, may involve injuries that require special and immediate attention. In addition to the above circumstances, the fact of being elements of great weight and excessive rigidity, which occupy a lot of space, hindering its transport and storage.
Finally, there are other types of immobilizers currently available in the market, which are characterized by being inflatable, so that they allow greater ease of transport and storage, while all members can be adjusted. However, these immobilizers, like the others made in materials such as plastic, polypropylene or various types of resins, exhibit serious disadvantages due to the high costs of the material and its preparation.
It is clear then that the immobilizers currently available in the market exhibit significant disadvantages, since they are very expensive, which limits their availability in ambulances, hospitals, schools, etc .; They are also made of materials that do not allow the perspiration of injured tissues; some of them are made of opaque radio materials, and therefore, at the time of taking the radiographs, it is necessary to remove them with the consequent discomfort for the patient.
DESCRIPCIÓN DE LAS FIGURASTherefore, it is clear that there is still an urgent need in the state of the art for a new temporary and disposable device for immobilization of the neck and extremities that is effective in its purpose of immobilization of said parts in case of suffering injuries; which also significantly reduces manufacturing costs, and significantly improves other technical aspects associated with this type of device. The present invention intends to solve many of the existing disadvantages with the currently available immobilizing devices, in terms of price, hygiene, comfort, and efficiency. Thus, as the applicant has developed temporary and disposable immobilizer devices of the orthopedic splints type for the care and control of neck and limb injuries during pre-hospital care, which are useful in both children and adults.
The advantages of the immobilizer device of the present invention are due to its novel configuration since it is made of cardboard coated with acrylic resins; or in plastic cardboard. These materials are suitable for the purposes of the present invention given that they exhibit numerous technical advantages, such as high resistance, since they maintain the necessary stiffness during the entire immobilization procedure of the injured member and the transport of the patient; they are partially waterproof, so that even in the presence of bleeding they maintain firmness; zero radio-opacity, which allows hospital staff to take the different diagnostic x-ray plates without removing the immobilizer; they allow the product to be available at a significantly lower cost compared to those available in the market; and also facilitate transport, since they have a much lighter weight and storage, since in static state, they remain folded occupying a minimum space.
All of the foregoing will favor its acquisition by other persons and institutions that require it, and allows immobilizers, despite the clear possibility of being reused, if necessary to be considered disposable, which will undoubtedly make it possible to expedite the procedures of emergency care, pre-hospital and rescue care agencies.
To achieve these purposes, the present invention provides a novel temporary and disposable immobilizer device of the orthopedic splint type, which is made of cardboard, either plastic or coated with resins, for the immobilization of neck, arms and legs.
