Abstract

The invention relates to electronic engineering, more specifically to the fields thereof using physical phenomenon of electron or ion-electron or cold emission, and discloses a cold cathode and a method for the production thereof. The inventive method for producing a cold cathode involves exposing a metal or alloy cathode billet to severe plastic deformation in such a way that the initial billet structure is converted into a fragmented structure containing nanometric fragments or into a mixed structure containing grains and nanometric fragments. Said method differs in that the cathode billet, after having been exposed to severe plastic deformation, is submitted to low-temperature annealing in order to convert at least some of the above-mentioned fragments into nanometric grains at a temperature equal to or greater than the cathode operational temperature Top. The invention makes it possible to improve a method for producing a cold cathode by using severe plastic deformation and to increase the cathode efficiency by reducing the electron releasing work value.

Cold cathodes operating on the principle of secondary electron or ion-electron emission, or field emission, are widespread. They are used in devices such as vacuum and gas-discharge devices, including optical quantum generators, helium-neon lasers, indicator devices, and ion sources. In particular, the latter are, in turn, an important component of widely used devices: plasmatrons, mass spectrometers. The characteristics of cold cathodes determine the accuracy and efficiency of the above devices. The requirements for the characteristics of cold cathodes increase with the development of microelectronics and nanoelectronics.
Most of the above devices use cathodes made of aluminum, beryllium, magnesium, iron, nickel, tantalum, molybdenum and other metals or alloys based on them as cold cathodes
The choice of a specific cathode material is carried out, guided by the requirements for its durability and efficiency, in the latter case, taking into account such a crucial emission characteristic of a metal or alloy as the electron work function. Other things being equal, a decrease in the electron work function allows, for example, in an ion source, to obtain a higher ion current at a lower value of the applied voltage. In addition, for example, in gas-discharge devices, reducing the value of the work function allows you to reduce the gas pressure and thereby reduce the load on the vacuum system of the device, which, ultimately, increases the reliability of the device.
%.The values of the electron work function for various materials, including metals, are given in the reference literature [2]. Known cold cathode of a gas-discharge device [3], made of practically pure aluminum, into which an additive of silicon in the amount of 0.5-1.65 masses is introduced. %
The silicon additive in aluminum promotes the formation of a uniform microstructure and a decrease in grain size, which, in turn, increases the stability of the oxide layer and prevents the cathode from sputtering.
Known cold cathode [4], the material of which, in contrast to [3], also contains iron in an amount of 0.1-2.0 mass. % The introduction of an iron additive in an alloy of aluminum with silicon reduces the lattice parameters due to the formation of a homogeneous substitutional solid solution in aluminum. In this case, the resistance to ion bombardment of the cathode surface increases, and sputtering is further reduced.
Known cold cathode of a gas-discharge device, in which nickel is used as the cathode material with the addition of cesium or rubidium aluminosilicate in an amount of 0.5-25 mass. % [5], which provides the possibility of stable operation of the cathode in conditions of intense ion bombardment, increases the emission current, including by reducing the work function.
A method of manufacturing a cathode involves the use of hot plastic deformation, namely, hot forging, stamping, rolling, to obtain a cathode blank. In addition, the cathodes can be manufactured using technological methods that are used in powder metallurgy, namely, by pressing a mixture of powders to obtain the desired cathode configuration and subsequent sintering of the pressed mass
[6].[5]. The disadvantage of the methods associated with changing the composition of the alloy by introducing special additives [3, 4, 5] is the impossibility of manufacturing a cathode with predetermined properties with a high degree of accuracy, which is due to the fact that it is technologically difficult to maintain the same composition with different melts alloy. That is why, in known solutions, the amount of additives is given in a fairly wide range. Such cathodes cannot be interchangeable when used in the above-mentioned modern devices. In other words, the possibilities of cold manufacturing methods. cathodes associated with changing the composition of the alloy by introducing special additives to increase the efficiency of the cathode are limited. In addition, changing the composition of any industrial alloy is economically extremely disadvantageous. In connection with the latest statement, it is known to use industrial aluminum alloys of the type D16 containing in mass. %: Al is the base; Cu - 4.3; Mg - 1.5; Mn 0.6; Fe <0.5; Si <0.5, and AD1 (technically pure aluminum, 99.3%) as the material of the cold cathode [6].
To increase the efficiency of the cold cathode, the method of its manufacture [6] involves the use of cold plastic deformation for hardening the surface layer of the cathode. Plastic deformation is carried out by rolling the working surface of the cathode ball rolling head. Hardening through plastic deformation leads to increased cathode durability. However, it is noted that this technique is unacceptable for processing, beryllium due to its high hardness and brittleness. That is, the possibilities of cold plastic deformation carried out in this way are also limited.
Known cathode (cathode target) and method of its manufacture [7]. The method includes the steps of obtaining a cathode blank of a metal or alloy, then cold deformation of the cathode blank is carried out in two stages until the desired cathode configuration is obtained. Moreover, at the first stage, the billets are cold rolled in the form of a card with a change in the rolling direction, which is necessary to avoid obtaining a pronounced texture. In a second step of cold deformation, preferably molding, a cylindrical or bowl-shaped cathode is formed into a semi-finished product.
[6].Between the stages of cold deformation, the workpiece can be subjected to heat treatment — high-temperature tempering or annealing in order to relieve internal stresses. As a result of such a two-stage deformation processing, the cathode has a uniform texture and a uniform fine-grained structure, with a grain size of 15 μm and above. Due to the homogeneous fine-grained structure, uniformity of metal sputtering from the target surface is achieved. But the known solution [7] does not reflect how the structure of the cathode, in particular the grain size, can affect the electron work function and cathode strength. The disadvantages of the method include the fact that the rolling operation is quite energy-intensive and time-consuming, including due to the need to change the direction of rolling. In addition, cold rolling is not suitable for processing sufficiently brittle metals, such as beryllium [6].
Thus, the known methods of manufacturing a cold cathode using plastic deformation do not imply the presence of technological methods that could significantly increase the efficiency of the cold cathode by reducing the work function, that is, as in the case of changing the composition of the alloy, there are limitations on technological capabilities. The effect of plastic deformation under various conditions of the stress-strain state on the electron work function is known from [8]. A method is proposed for calculating the change in the work function based on the model of its relationship with the electronegativity of metals, taking into account the formation of nanometric surface defects. However, the possibilities of using the model and the calculation methodology based on it in the manufacture of the cathode, characterized by a lower value of the work function, are also limited. The reason for this is, first of all, that the technique, being quite complex and cumbersome, takes into account the influence on the change in the work function of the output only of surface defects, which can be neutralized during further processing of the cathode or during its operation.
Moreover, from [8] it is known that a decrease in the work function corresponds to an increase in the degree of plastic deformation.
Известно, что максимально возможную степень деформации без разрушения заготовки позволяют реализовать специальные методы интенсивной пластической деформации (ИПД) [9, 10].It is known that the maximum possible degree of deformation without destroying the workpiece allows the implementation of special methods of intensive plastic deformation (IPD) [9, 10].
The most well-known special IPD methods include equal-channel angular pressing (ECC-pressing) and torsion under quasi-hydrostatic pressure at a Bridgman type anvil type installation [9, 10]. Using these methods, a degree of deformation of e> 4 can be achieved, where e is the true logarithmic degree of deformation.
Based on the foregoing, the closest analogue (prototype) of the solution proposed in the invention selected a cold cathode and a method for its manufacture, known from [11]. In this method, by deformation by the SPD method, namely by the torsion method under quasi-hydrostatic pressure, on an installation of the Bridgman type anvil, to the true logarithmic degree of deformation of e ~ 7, an experimental sample of a 99.99% tungsten cathode was made. In this case, a structure with a nanometric grain size of about 100 nm was obtained in the sample. By measuring the contact potential difference, the electron work function was determined, more precisely, the difference between the work function of the cathode sample subjected to SPD and having a nanometric grain size and the work function of the cathode sample in the usual coarse-grained state. It was found that the formation of a structure with a nanometric grain size leads to a decrease in the work function in the metal. The decrease in the work function for tungsten with a grain size of about 100 nm was -0.8 eV. Complex studies of the sample were carried out, including transmission electron microscopy, as well as numerical simulation of the experiment.
It was found that the specific behavior of the nanocrystalline material under consideration is determined, first of all, not by a small grain size, but by a special, “unequal” state of grain boundaries, characterized by internal stresses, as evidenced by the diffuse contrast at the grain boundaries observed by means of an electron transmission microscope. Moreover, significant, up to 1-3%, lattice distortions by internal stresses were observed near the boundaries in a region with a width of the order of 10 nm.
[6].Thus, it was possible to hypothesize that the formation of a structure with a nanometric grain size leads to the appearance of current tubes with a reduced work function. Such a current tube directly includes grain boundaries and their surroundings with a width of about 10 nm. In addition to reducing the work function, SPD leads to a noticeable increase in the strength of the cold cathode, which can lead to an increase in its durability [6].
In addition, in comparison with other known methods for manufacturing a cold cathode [6], it becomes possible to use 'cold deformation for hardening a cold cathode from brittle materials. The latter is explained by the fact that SPD, as a rule, is carried out under conditions of comprehensive compression, as in the case of ECG compression, or in conditions close to comprehensive compression, as in torsion under quasi-hydrostatic pressure in a Bridgman type anvil type installation.
However, further experiments showed that with an increase in the degree of deformation, in particular, of a sample from the same tungsten, SPD does not give the expected decrease in the work function, known from [8]. And upon deformation by the IPD method, in particular, of a sample from industrial aluminum alloy AMГ6 (6.3% Mg; 0.6% Mn; Cu <0, l%; Zn <0.2%; Fe <0.4; Si < 0.4%, the rest Al) generally fails to obtain the expected result in accordance with [11].
Thus, there is a problem associated with the identification of factors affecting the change in the work function of the electron in the cathode samples subjected to SPD, and with the need to find techniques that maximize the " use of the advantages of SPD in the manufacture of cathodes from various metals and alloys traditionally used for these purposes.
Disclosure of invention
The objective of the invention is to improve the method of manufacturing a cold cathode using intense plastic deformation, which can further improve the efficiency of the cathode by reducing the electron work function, as well as expanding the technological capabilities of this method for the manufacture of cold cathodes from various metals and alloys. The problem is solved when the method of manufacturing a cold cathode, according to which the cathode blank of a metal or alloy is subjected to intense plastic deformation with the transformation of the original the preform structure into a fragmented structure containing nanometer-sized fragments, or a mixed structure containing grains and nanometric-sized fragments, characterized in that after intensive plastic deformation, the cathode preform is subjected to low-temperature annealing to convert at least a portion of these fragments to nanometer-sized grains at temperature not lower than the operating temperature T paб of the cathode.
The term "intensive plastic deformation)) (IPD) (" Severe Plastic Deformation "or" SPD "in the English language literature) in the present invention is understood to mean plastic deformation of a metal material up to the highest degrees of plastic deformation (up to thousands of percent) at relatively low homological temperatures (typically lower than 0.3 of the melting temperature), which leads to the division of grains in the initial structure of the material. Preferably, intense plastic deformation of the cathode preform is carried out with a degree of e> 4, where e is the true logarithmic degree of deformation. It should be noted that according to the essence of the invention, the lower limit of the degree of deformation e is determined by the achievement of the nanometric size of the structural elements of the cathode blank (i.e., grains and fragments) and providing the desired effect of reducing the work function. The upper limit of the degree of deformation e can be essentially any and is chosen in order to minimize the size of grains and fragments and minimize production costs. Thus, the preferred limits of the degree of deformation e are from 4 to 20, more preferably from 5 to 10, and most preferably from 6 to 8. Moreover, the initial structure of the cathode preform before severe plastic deformation can be essentially any, such as a grain structure (for example, a coarse-grained structure with grains much larger than 10 microns or a fine-grained structure with grains slightly larger than 1 microns) or even a partially fragmented structure, possibly obtained in the previous stages of deformation ation, if they are desired.
Preferably, severe plastic deformation of the workpiece the cathode is carried out by torsion under quasi-hydrostatic pressure at a Bridgman type anvil type installation, which often allows to achieve the required degree of deformation in one transition and, therefore, reduces manufacturing costs. Preferably, the low-temperature annealing of the cathode preform is carried out at a temperature selected from a temperature range from T pa to 0.4 χ T pl , where T pl is the melting temperature of said metal or alloy. Since the cold cathode during its operation can be heated, as a rule, from room temperature to an operating temperature of the order of 50 to 100 ° C, the lower limit of the annealing temperature must be at least the operating temperature T pa of the cathode in order to avoid thermal instability of its structure during operation . The upper limit of the annealing temperature is limited by the grain size in the workpiece structure, which does not go beyond the nanometer range (i.e., does not exceed 1 μm) and is determined by maximizing the effect of reducing the work function as a result of such annealing. At annealing temperatures in excess of 0.4xT Pl , an unacceptable grain growth usually occurs in the workpiece structure, which eliminates, at least in part, the effect of reducing the work function as a result of intense plastic deformation. More preferably, the annealing temperature is selected from the range from T pa b to 0, Z χ T pl , and most preferably from the range from 0, l χ T pl to 0.25xT pl .
Preferably, the low-temperature annealing of the cathode preform is carried out over a period of from 1 minute to 100 hours, and more preferably from 0.5 hour to 2 hours. It should be noted that the limits of the annealing duration according to the invention can be essentially any and are selected with the aim of maximizing the effect of reducing the work function and minimizing manufacturing costs, provided that the grain size in the workpiece structure does not fall outside the nanometric range (i.e., exceeds 1 micron). It should also be noted that the temperature and duration of the annealing according to the invention are preferably selected taking into account each other. Usually, the higher the annealing temperature, the shorter the duration annealing, and vice versa.
Preferably, at least a portion of said fragments converted to grains during low-temperature annealing is from 10 to 100%, more preferably from 20 to 100%, and more preferably from 30 to 100%, of their amount in a fragmented or mixed structure workpieces after intense plastic deformation. It should be noted that, as a rule, the larger the number of fragments converted to grains as a result of annealing, the greater the effect of reducing the work function. Therefore, it is most preferred that the cathode preform after the low-temperature annealing has a predominantly grain structure, i.e. contained at least 50% of the grains, and in the best case, essentially a grain structure, i.e. contained at least 90% of the grains.
Preferably, after intensive plastic deformation and low-temperature annealing, mechanical processing or pressure treatment of the cathode preform is carried out, and during processing of the cathode preform by pressure, the deformation temperature is regulated based on the condition of maintaining the nanometric grain size. Moreover, any subsequent processing of the cathode, if necessary, is carried out while maintaining the nanometric grain size. The problem is solved in part of the device is solved in the case when the cold cathode of a metal or alloy having a structure containing grains of nanometer size and obtained as a result of intense plastic deformation, characterized in that the cathode has a predominantly grain structure with grains of nanometer size, obtained by any of the embodiments of the invention.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
6).With intense plastic deformation (IPD), the structure of a metal or alloy undergoes significant modifications. The initial grains are divided with the formation of smaller fragments than the initial grains, which are misoriented regions separated by unformed dislocation-type boundaries. In the process of recrystallization, fragments are transformed into grains approximately the same size as the fragments, with the formation of grain-type boundaries between them. In this case, the formation of grains and corresponding boundaries in pure metals is more intense than in alloys, due to the migration of boundaries difficult in alloys. Further, during the IPD, the division of newly formed grains occurs. These processes during the time of the IPD implementation occur simultaneously and continuously. Therefore, at the time when the IPD is interrupted upon reaching the required grain or fragment size, both nanometer-sized grains and nanometer-sized fragments are inevitably present in the metal or alloy, i.e. the metal or alloy has a mixed structure or fragmented structure after the IPD. Moreover, due to the aforementioned reasons, as a rule, alloys have a fragmented structure. The first picture was revealed, in particular, during additional studies of the structure of the sample from tungsten, and the second - when studying the structure of the sample from aluminum alloy AMГ6. Electron microscopy studies of samples subjected to SPD have shown that an increase in the degree of deformation above a certain value depending on the physical properties of the metal or alloy does not lead to the transformation of a fragmented structure into a grain structure during the SPD. Therefore, it is possible that both the metal and the alloy after the SPD will have a predominantly fragmented structure (see Fig. 10 below, illustrating the process under consideration for a sample of the cathode from AMГ6 alloy).
The boundaries of the fragments are of a dislocation nature, that is, they are not crystallographically formed, and remain so during and after deformation. Unformed boundaries of fragments cannot provide an additional decrease in the electron work function. Moreover, the work function in the cathode samples with a structure completely fragmented after SPD may not differ in value from the work function in the cathode samples with a coarse (more than 1 μm) structure obtained by traditional methods.
7 000757During low-temperature annealing, preferably, the transformation of the mixed structure into a predominantly grain or even 7 000757
11eleven
Annealing temperature, sufficient only for the conversion of fragments into grains, does not lead to an increase in the size of structural elements. The nanometric grain size remains approximately equal to the size of the fragments. Since it is almost impossible to achieve absolute equality of grain and fragment sizes in such a physical process as transformation of the metal or alloy structure, the grain size can be several nanometers larger, preferably within the range of -20-30 nm, of the fragment sizes. The boundaries of the formed nanometer-sized grains make an additional contribution to the decrease in the electron work function compared to the contribution that only the SPD gives in the case of a less fragmented structure, such as, for example, in the method of manufacturing a tungsten cathode. In the presence of a predominantly fragmented structure after SPD, only annealing can provide the effect of decreasing the value of the work function known from [11]. After the preferred low-temperature annealing, there may be still small, number of fragments, but not affect the overall picture of the occurrence of flow tubes and to reduce the work function.
RU2007/000757It is recommended that the temperature of low-temperature annealing for most metals and alloys traditionally used for the manufacture of a cold cathode be chosen from about 0, lxT pl to about 0.2xT pl . It was experimentally established that such an annealing temperature is suitable for practically pure metals, such as nickel, tungsten, titanium, molybdenum, and for alloys such as AMG6, E125, etc. Annealing at lower temperatures often does not lead to sufficient changes in the structure of the deformed sample. In addition, the cold cathode during operation can be heated, as a rule, from room temperature to an operating temperature of the order of 50-10O 0 C 5 therefore, the annealing temperature must be at least the operating temperature of the cathode in order to avoid thermal instability of its structure during operation. Thus, the proposed invention in comparison with the prototype method allows you to more fully use the possibilities of intense plastic deformation to reduce the value of the work function RU2007 / 000757

In combination with low-temperature annealing, IPD can be used to increase the cathode efficiency from almost any metal or alloy traditionally used for these purposes. Whereas the use of IPD alone cannot lead to an increase in the efficiency of a cathode made of metal or alloy, which is prone to intense fragmentation during IPD.
The use of SPD and low-temperature annealing can improve the efficiency of the cold cathode proposed in the invention and its manufacturing method compared to the prototype by manufacturing a cathode from industrial alloys without introducing additional additives to reduce the electron work function.
In addition, the proposed invention, the method and the cold cathode retain all the other advantages of the prototype.
Namely, the method proposed in the invention, as well as the prototype method, can increase the strength of the cold cathode. However, compared with traditional coarse-grained cathodes, the increase in strength occurs by a slightly lower amount than in the prototype, due to the partial removal of the hardening from the SPD during low-temperature annealing.
As in the prototype, it becomes possible to use cold deformation for hardening a cold cathode of brittle materials. The most economical and least energy-intensive and time-consuming version of the proposed method is recommended, including processing the cathode blank in the form of a disk by torsion under quasi-hydrostatic pressure in a Bridgman type anvil type installation. The installation has a simple design, while the required degree of deformation can be typed in one transition.
The installation for ECG-compression has a more complex design, and several transitions are carried out to set the required degree of deformation, but as a result, an intermediate cathode blank can be obtained in the form of a rod of a given diameter, which can be divided into semi-finished products of a given thickness by cutting methods.
IPD can also be used to consolidate particles or clusters of atoms obtained by methods known from the field of powder metallurgy, A preform made in this way can be used as a cold cathode preform. However, the cost of such a cold cathode will be higher; therefore, this embodiment of the method seems to be the least economically feasible. IPD methods have certain limitations associated with the small dimensions of the workpieces and the need to give them a certain shape: a bar - for ECA pressing, or a disk - for torsion under quasi-hydrostatic pressure.
However, this is not a limitation for the method of manufacturing a cold cathode as an object having small dimensions corresponding to the IPD methods and a tendency to further decrease in dimensions. Moreover, there is the possibility of industrial use in combination with low-temperature annealing of such an IPD method, such as torsion under quasi-hydrostatic pressure, which was traditionally considered suitable for processing samples of metals and alloys only in laboratory conditions.
It should also be noted that during the operation of the cathode heated to realize the phenomenon of thermionic emission, significant grain growth occurs, against the background of which the role of grain boundaries is lost as a factor affecting the decrease in the work function. Therefore, the feature of the method that reflects its purpose, i.e. A method of manufacturing a cold cathode.
Since the obtained nanometric grain size and state of the boundaries are stored in the finished product, i.e. cold cathode, then they are signs of the cathode itself as a device. Based on the foregoing, we can conclude that the objectives of the invention are solved only with the interconnected use of the totality of the essential features of the invention.

The best embodiments of the invention
The following are examples of specific embodiments of the invention, not limiting the essence of the invention defined exclusively by the attached claims.
For the manufacture of a cold cathode according to the method of this invention, aluminum, beryllium, iron, nickel, tungsten, tantalum, molybdenum, titanium, niobium, zirconium and other metals or alloys based on these metals can also be used, for example, in [1] , that is, traditionally used for the manufacture of a cold cathode.
To illustrate a method of manufacturing a cold cathode as of the cold cathode material, technically pure nickel (Ni 99.98 mass%), technically pure tungsten (99.99 mass%), industrial aluminum alloy (AMG6 with a nominal composition in mass%: 6.3% Mg; 0, 6% Mn; Cu <0, l%; Zn <0.2%; Fe <0.4; Si <0.4%, the rest is Al) and industrial zirconium alloy (E125 with a nominal composition in wt.%: 2, 5% Nb; the rest is Zr). The above examples do not exhaust the possibilities of using all other metals and alloys from which a cold cathode can be made.
Due to the identity of the method, here is a single example of the manufacture of samples of cold cathodes using these materials.
In all cases, the cathode blank was deformed by the SPD method, in particular, by torsion under quasi-hydrostatic pressure at a Bridgman type anvil type installation (Fig. 1). In FIG. 1, cathode blank is indicated by 1, and anvil strikers by 2. The above example also does not exclude the use of other methods.
SPD in the manufacture of a cold cathode, including in the case of the development of new methods of SPD after the creation of the present invention.
125.For IPD, a disk with a diameter of 10 mm and a thickness of 0.2 mm was cut from an industrial hot-pressed rod from AMG6 alloy, as well as ingots from nickel and tungsten and from E125 alloy.
Billets were placed between the two anvils and compressed under pressure of P ~ 7 GPa at room temperature.
Деформацию всех заготовок осуществляли до достижения истинной логарифмической степени деформации е ~ 7.A structure with elements in the form of predominantly nanometer-sized fragments in cathode blanks of alloys E125 and AMГ6, as well as in the form of fragments and predominantly nanometer-sized grains in cathode blanks of tungsten and nickel, was obtained through intense plastic deformation. The deformation of all the blanks was carried out until the true logarithmic degree of deformation e ~ 7 was achieved.
The degree of deformation was determined by the formula: e = ln (θt / Q, where θ is the rotation angle in radians, g and / are the radius and thickness of the workpiece, respectively [10]. Using a JEM-2000EX transmission electron microscope (TEM), the degree of fragmentation of the workpiece structure and the size of the structural elements were determined.
The average size of the fragments and grains in the cathode blanks of nickel and tungsten was approximately 100 nm. At the same time, the degree of fragmentation of the structure of the nickel preform was greater than that of the tungsten preform.
The average fragment size in the AMG6 alloy cathode blanks was approximately 100 nm.
The average grain and fragment size in the cathode blank of alloy E125 was approximately 90 nm.
In the last two blanks, the degree of fragmentation of the structure was significant.
After SPD deformation, the cathode blanks were subjected to low-temperature annealing. Such annealing was carried out at the following temperatures:
- для заготовки из сплава AMГ6 - 150°C;- for a workpiece from AMГ6 alloy - 150 ° C;
- для заготовки из сплава Э125 - 300°C;- for a workpiece from alloy E125 - 300 ° C;
- для заготовки из никеля - 2500C;- for nickel billets - 250 0 C;
Время отжига составляло в данном случае примерно 1 час.- for a tungsten billet - 500 0 C. The annealing time in this case was approximately 1 hour.
После низкотемпературного отжига во всех заготовках была получена преимущественно зеренная структура. Средний размер зерен и их количество в % (измеренные путем статистического анализа количеств зерен и фрагментов в нескольких полях зрения ПЭМ) соответственно составили: - в заготовке из сплава AMГ6 - примерно 130 нм, более примерно 60%;After low-temperature annealing, a predominantly grain structure was obtained in all the blanks. The average grain size and their number in% (measured by statistical analysis of the number of grains and fragments in several fields of view of the TEM), respectively, amounted to: - in the workpiece from AMG6 alloy - about 130 nm, more than about 60%;
- в заготовке из сплава Э 125 - примерно 110 нм, более примерно 60%;- in the workpiece from alloy E 125 - about 110 nm, more than about 60%;
- в заготовке из никеля - примерно 120 нм, более примерно 70%;- in the workpiece of Nickel - about 120 nm, more than about 70%;
70%.- in the tungsten preform — about 120 nm, more than about 70%.
To prevent oxidative processes, low-temperature annealing was carried out in an electric furnace in vacuum.
After SPD and low-temperature annealing, all four cathode blanks were subjected to additional deformation to obtain a slightly convex-concave forms. In this case, the workpieces were deformed at room temperature.
The prepared samples of the cold cathode had a disk shape with a diameter of 10 mm and a thickness of ~ 0, l mm. The finished experimental cold cathode sample is shown in FIG. 2. Such a cathode can be used as part of an ion source.
Further, for cathodes manufactured by the method described in the above example, the electron work function was measured.
The work function was measured by the contact potential difference method [12]. By the offset of the delay curves relative to each other directly
10 determined the relative change in the work function Δφ for cathode samples made by the method proposed in the invention and by the prototype method.
To ensure the reliability of the results, before measuring the work function, we cleaned the surface of all samples directly in the measuring setup, avoiding contact of the sample with air using ion

2%.The error of these measurements was ~ 2%.
For clarity, the results are summarized in a table:
Figure imgf000019_0001
Figure imgf000019_0001
Cp 1 and φ 2 - work function of the electron of the cold cathode according to the invention and the prototype, respectively. 0 Thus, these measurements showed that the samples after SPD and low-temperature annealing have a lower value of the work function compared to samples just after SPD.
3, 4), баллон которой наполнен инертным газом, и свойства такого источника определяются взаимодействием электронного потока с газовой средой и электрическим полем между электродами (анодом и катодом).A decrease in the work function leads to an increase in the efficiency of the cold cathode, for example, when it is operated as part of an ion source. 5 An ion source is an electrovacuum device for producing directed ion flow, the effect of which is based on the use of various types of electric discharges in a gas (inert gases, hydrogen) or metal vapors. The simplest ion source is a diode cell (Fig. 3, 4), the cylinder of which is filled with an inert gas, and the properties of such a source are determined by the interaction of the electron beam with the gas medium and the electric field between the electrodes (anode and cathode).
The efficiency of an ion source with a cold cathode is characterized by the ability to produce a higher working current of the ion beam at a lower working voltage, as well as a uniform ion beam composition and a constant ion current density. Under the same conditions, the efficiency of the cathode depends on the properties of the cathode material, in particular, on the electron work function. The lower the electron work function, the higher the secondary ion-electron emission coefficient and, as a consequence, the ion beam intensity. Studies of the current-voltage (U-I) characteristics of a self-sustained discharge in a diode cell with cold cathodes made according to the method of the invention and the prototype method showed an increase in the efficiency of the cathodes. For example, a self-discharge current at a voltage of 1 kV in a cell with a cold cathode made according to the method proposed in the invention, compared with a current of a self-discharge at the same voltage in a cell with a cold cathode made according to the prototype method:
- из никеля выше на 55 %, см. фиг. 5;- nickel is 55% higher, see FIG. 5;
- из сплава Э125 выше на 35 %, см. фиг. 6.; - из сплава AMГ6 выше на 40 %, см. фиг. 7;- of alloy E125 higher by 35%, see FIG. 6 .; - from AMG6 alloy is 40% higher, see fig. 7;
8.- of tungsten higher by 25%, see FIG. 8.
The current-voltage characteristics of cold cathodes manufactured by the method of the invention and the prototype method are shown in FIG. 5, 6, 7, 8. In FIG. 5, 6, 7, 8 curve 1 - current-voltage characteristic of a diode cell with a cold cathode made according to the method of the invention, respectively, from nickel, alloys E125 and AMG6 and tungsten; curve 2 - current-voltage characteristic of a diode cell with a cold cathode made by the prototype method from the same materials.
As already noted, studies of the microstructure of the samples were carried out using a JEM-2000EX transmission electron microscope. The samples were examined from all four materials: nickel, tungsten, AMG6 alloy and E125 alloy. In all cases, reliable results were obtained regarding the evolution of the structure in the samples and confirming the possibility of solving the problem of the invention. For brevity, the following are data (graphic materials) on AMG6 alloy only. In FIG. 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 shows the structure of the investigated alloy

Тот. = 75°C, 150°C, 2500C или 3000C.T from . = 75 ° C, 150 ° C, 250 0 C or 300 0 C.
Химический анализ показал, что состав светлых частиц соответствует фазе Al10Mg2Mn, а темных частиц - Mg2Si.Before SPD, AMG6 alloy had a typical partially recrystallized structure of a hot-pressed semi-finished product. Coarse inclusions of primary phases were present in the matrix. Chemical analysis showed that the composition of light particles corresponds to the Al 10 Mg 2 Mn phase, and that of dark particles corresponds to Mg 2 Si.
After SPD, the matrix structure acquired a fragmented structure and consisted essentially of fragment elements with an average size of ~ 100 nm. The inhomogeneous contrast in the fragments body indicated strong distortions of the crystal lattice and high internal stresses, and the absence of diffuse contrast indicated the dislocation nature of the boundaries and their unformed state.
Процесс сопровождался незначительным укрупнением зерен (до ~130 нм).Annealing at a temperature of 75 ° C for about 1 hour did not lead to noticeable changes in the fragmented structure of the AMГ6 alloy. During annealing at a temperature of 150 ° C, the fragmented structure was transformed into a predominantly grain structure containing ~ 60% of grains. The process was accompanied by a slight enlargement of grains (up to ~ 130 nm).
250°C.With a further increase in temperature to 250 0 C, normal grain growth was activated, forming an equilibrium and equiaxed structure with an average grain size of ~ 540 nm. A further increase in the annealing temperature was accompanied by a significant enlargement of grains. As a result, after annealing at 300 ° C, the grain size increased to 2 μm. Thus, in the context of this of the experiment, the temperature of the low-temperature annealing according to the invention for the AMГ6 alloy was from 75 ° C to 250 ° C.
9450-76.The obtained data also made it possible to estimate the microhardness of the sample in various structural states. Microhardness was evaluated according to GOST 9450-76.
При этом микротвердость образца после ИПД и низкотемпературного отжига незначительно меньше, чем после только ИПД, из-за частичного снятия деформационного упрочнения (наклепа).In FIG. Figure 15 shows the dependence of microhardness on the annealing temperature of the AMГ6 alloy and, accordingly, on the grain size. According to the obtained dependence, the microhardness of a cold cathode sample subjected to SPD and low-temperature annealing is 2.5 times higher than that of a sample in a coarse-grained state. As a result, the cathode strength is increased 2.5 times, and, as has already been noted for a number of alloys, its durability. In this case, the microhardness of the sample after SPD and low-temperature annealing is slightly less than after only SPD, due to the partial removal of strain hardening (hardening).
The sharp decrease in microhardness observed in FIG. 15 at higher temperatures (approximately 200-300 0 C), caused by the structural transformations described above and is associated with the removal of the effects of strain hardening.
