Description

A plastic container
Technical Field of the Invention.-
The invention relates to a plastic container particularly applicable for containing semi-liquid or liquid products such as paints, comprising a vessel and a corresponding lid for hermetically closing it.
Background of the Invention.-
Patent document ES 1036037 discloses a container comprising a vessel and a lid, both made of plastic and being one-piece.
The upper part of the vessel has an outer perimetral wall joined to the wall of the vessel by means of a transverse ring-shaped partition. This outer wall determines, along with the wall of the vessel, a groove in which a perimetral skirt of the lid is housed.
The inner face of the outer perimetral wall is provided with a rib, below which the edge of the mentioned skirt is arranged when the lid hermetically closes the container. The lid is therefore retained in its closed position by means of said rib.
It has been verified however that as a result of dropping the full container, or if it is struck, the lid can be released and the product can spill out.
The main objective of the present invention is to disclose an alternative container which improves the tightness and safety of the known container, i.e. ensures that the lid is not released in the previously described situations.
Disclosure of the Invention.-
The container of the invention is of those comprising a vessel with a circular section and a corresponding lid with a general disc-shaped configuration for hermetically closing it, the vessel being of the type provided, close to its opening, with an outer ring-shaped wall provided with an inner ring-shaped rib for securing the lid in the hermetically closed position of the container.
The container is essentially characterized in that the cross-section of the edge of the lid comprises a support section for being supported on the upper edge of the vessel and a downward section to which there is joined, along a ring- shaped joining portion, a perimetral skirt inclined outwardly and upwardly the end edge of which is arranged below the inner ring-shaped rib of the ring-shaped wall in the closed position of the lid, the length of the perimetral skirt of the lid being such that in the closed position of the container, it is bent inwardly along the ring- shaped joining portion, which is provided with enough flexibility so as to act as a hinge, the edge of the skirt being pressed against the inner face of the ring- shaped wall of the vessel.
The effect caused by the ring-shaped joining portion, in the event that a pushing force is exerted on the lid in the removal direction thereof, for example upon increasing the pressure inside the container as a result of a fall or a blow, favors an anchoring effect of the skirt inside the groove as is explained in more detail below.
According to another feature of the invention, the ring-shaped joining portion, acting as a hinge, is formed by a portion with reduced thickness.
According to a preferred embodiment, the perimetral skirt of the lid comprises, from inside to outside, a first short upward segment, in an inclined plane, and a second also upward segment that is longer and has a greater inclination than the previous segment. According to another feature of the invention, the support section of the edge of the lid is provided with a vertical inner ring-shaped partition, the joining portion of which joined with the mentioned support section has a thickness greater than that of its distal end and determines, along with the downward section of said edge of the lid, a ring-shaped groove suitable for tightly receiving the opening of the vessel.
According to another feature of the container, the outer ring-shaped wall is joined to the wall of the vessel by means of a ring-shaped partition having a step shaped configuration, provided with a vertical central portion which is useful as support for the lower end of the third section of the edge of the lid in the closed position of the lid.
In a particularly interesting embodiment, the inner face of the wall of the vessel is provided with a perimetral step, which is useful as support for the lower edge of the inner ring-shaped partition of the second section of the edge of the lid. Brief Description of the Drawinqs.-
Figure 1 depicts a sectional view of a portion of the edge of the lid of the container according to the invention; and Figure 2 also depicts a sectional view of the same portion of the edge of the lid but in this case in the situation in which it is conveniently coupled in the opening of the vessel.
Detailed Description of the Drawinqs.- Figure 1 shows in detail the section of the outermost portion of the lid 2 of the container according to the invention.
Said Figure 1 shows that the lid comprises a first upward inner section 5, followed by a second support section 6, intended to be supported on the upper edge 8 of the vessel 1 , see Figure 2, and a third downward section 7 to which there is joined, by means of a ring-shaped joining portion 9, a perimetral skirt 10 inclined outwardly and upwardly the end edge 1 1 of which is intended to collaborate in retaining the lid 2 to the vessel 1.
In the example of Figure 1 , the ring-shaped joining portion 9 is formed by a portion of the lid 2 with reduced thickness, in order to favor the hinge effect and allow the elastic deformation of the lid 2 along the mentioned joining portion 9 when it is coupled to the vessel 1 (see Figure 2). Naturally, and depending on the materials used in obtaining the lid 2, the ring-shaped joining portion 9 could have a thickness equal to that of the third downward section 7 and/or the perimetral skirt 10 but thin enough so as to allow the deformation of the lid 2 in the desired situations.
Figure 2 depicts the lid 2 duly coupled to a vessel 1 conveniently suited for cooperating in retaining the lid 2 depicted in Figure 1.
The vessel 1 has a circular section and is provided close to its opening, in a way in itself known, with an outer ring-shaped wall 3 provided with an inner ring-shaped rib 4 for securing the lid 2 in the hermetically closed position of the container.
Nevertheless, and unlike the known solutions, the groove determining the outer ring-shaped wall 3 and the wall of the vessel 1 close to its upper edge 8 is narrow enough so that the perimetral skirt 10 is bent inwardly when the lid 2 is - A - placed in the closed position, as indicated by the arrow of Figure 1.
Indeed, the perimetral skirt 10 is bent along the ring-shaped joining portion 9, acting as a hinge, and the edge 1 1 of the perimetral skirt 10 is applied under pressure against the inner face 12 of the outer ring-shaped wall 3 of the vessel 1.
Figures 1 and 2 show that the perimetral skirt 10 of the lid 2 comprises, from inside to outside, a first short upward segment 10a in an inclined plane, and a second also upward segment 10b that is longer and has a greater inclination than the previous segment. This configuration favors an interlocking effect which occurs when the lid 2 has the tendency to be separated from the vessel 1 , since the perimetral skirt 10 is bent outwardly, this portion of the lid 2 widening such that its downward section 7 is applied under pressure against a support surface provided for such purpose in the vessel 1.
To that end, the ring-shaped joining partition 16 between the outer wall 3 and the body of the vessel 1 is provided with a step shaped configuration, in which a vertical central portion 16b is useful as support for the lower end of the third section 7 of the edge of the lid 2 in the closed position of the lid 2 and when there is an attempt to separate the lid 2 from the vessel 1 .
It is likewise shown that the support section 6 of the edge of the lid 2 is provided with a vertical inner ring-shaped partition 13 the joining portion 14 of which joined with the mentioned support section has a thickness greater than that of its distal end. This inner ring-shaped partition 13 determines, along with the downward section 7 of the edge of the lid 2, a ring-shaped groove 15 suitable for tightly receiving the upper edge 8 of the opening of the vessel 1. It must further be noted that the inner face of the wall of the vessel 1 is provided with a perimetral step 17 which is useful as support for the lower edge of the previously described inner ring-shaped partition 13.
