Abstract
The invention relates to a matching medium (100) that is used to optically couple an optically turbid medium (100) to its surroundings during diffuse optical tomography measurements. Generally, an optical matching medium makes it hard to acoustically couple the turbid medium to its surroundings efficiently. According to the invention, this problem is solved by using a matching medium that matches both the optical and acoustic characteristics of the turbid medium to the optical and acoustic characteristics of the surroundings of the turbid medium. The invention explains how a multimodality matching medium can be obtained that both optically and acoustically couples human tissue to its surroundings.
