Abstract

A character input device (10) is provided with a character input unit (11) that has at least one key to which a plurality of characters are allocated, a display unit (12) that shifts and displays the plurality of characters allocated to the key in a predetermined order in accordance with inputs to the character input unit (11), and an estimate conversion candidate designating unit (15) that treats a character displayed at the time when an input state to the character input unit (11) changes as an input candidate character and designates estimate conversion candidates corresponding to an input candidate character sequence comprised of not less than one input candidate character. In the case where estimate conversion candidates corresponding to the input candidate characters do not exist, the estimate conversion candidate designating unit (15) uses characters before and after a predetermined order of the input candidate characters to designate estimate conversion candidates.
