Abstract

A controller for shortening the time to check all LBA without decreasing the reliability in disk patrol is provided. The controller has a table for managing the presence/absence of access to a predetermined area of a disk device and, when there is any access from a host to the disk device, sets the area corresponding to the accessed area as the access presence. The controller, when sequentially accessing the disk device by means of the patrol, judges whether or not the area corresponding to the accessed area in the table is set as the access presence. When the area is set as the access presence, the controller skips the access to the accessed area in the patrol.
