Abstract

A cutting or grinding device has a tubular housing (11); a rotating shaft (13) supported inside the housing by a bearing; a tool holder (16) having a connection section (14) that is adapted for connection to the rotating shaft and is disconnectably connected to the lower end of the rotating shaft and also having a tool holding section (15) that extends below from the connection section and has, at its lower end, tool holding means (15a); a rod-shaped tool (17) for cutting or grinding, held by the tool holding means; an ultrasonic vibrator (18) provided on the tool holding section or the rod-shaped tool; and an electric power source (19) electrically connected to the ultrasonic vibrator. The electrical connection between the ultrasonic vibrator and the electric power source is performed by a rotary transformer (21). The rotary transformer (21) has electric power supply means (21a) provided on the inner peripheral surface or the lower end of the housing and also has electric power receiving means (21b) provided at a position facing the electric power supply means, on the outer peripheral surface of the tool holding section of the tool holder. In the cutting or grinding device, ultrasonic vibration can be applied to the rod-shaped tool for cutting or grinding, and the rod-shaped tool can be replaced easily and in a short time.
