Abstract

An ink jet head comprises a piezoelectric substrate (1) having ink grooves (41) partitioned from one another by partitions (3), a nozzle plate (21) which covers the top of the piezoelectric substrate (1) to define the ink grooves (41) as separate ink chambers, and a manifold (11) fixed to the piezoelectric substrate (1) to respectively define a first common ink chamber (5) and a second common ink chamber (6) communicated with the ink chambers at one and the other ends of the ink chambers. The ink chambers include at least one ink chambers for discharge and at least one dummy ink chambers. The nozzle plate (21) has nozzle holes (20) for discharging ink at positions corresponding to the ink chambers for discharge but no nozzle hole (20) at positions corresponding to the dummy ink chambers.
