Abstract

Provided is an optical cable which can be installed by a work equivalent to a normal self-support type optical cable. Moreover, the optical cable has a wound portion subjected to a curling process for the spare length which can easily be handled. The optical cable can easily be installed. A method for installing the cable is also provided. An optical cable (11, 11') includes a body portion (12, 12') having an optical fiber core coated with an outer coat and a suspension portion (13) connected to and integrated with the body portion via a head portion which can easily be separated. At one cable end, the body portion (12, 12') is separated from the suspension portion (13). The separated body portion (12, 12') has a winding portion (17) formed by a plurality of winding turns with a diameter not smaller than the allowed curve diameter of the optical fiber and wound/held on the suspension portion (13). The cylindrical winding portion (13) of the separated body portion (12, 12') may be formed by a curling process.
