Abstract

本発明は、基板を分割して配向処理することによって2以上のドメインが形成された液晶表示装置において、表示品位及び歩留まりの向上が可能である液晶表示装置及びその製造方法を提供する。本発明は、対向する一対の基板と、基板間に設けられた液晶層と、基板の少なくとも一方の液晶層側の表面に設けられた配向膜とを備え、かつ画素内に配向方向が異なる領域を2以上有する液晶表示装置の製造方法であって、上記製造方法は、複数の透光部が遮光領域内に形成されたマスク中央部と、マスク中央部における透光部の分布密度よりも小さな透光部の分布密度で複数の透光部が遮光領域内に形成された領域を有するマスク継ぎ部とが設けられたフォトマスクを介して配向膜の一部を露光する露光工程を含む液晶表示装置の製造方法である。
