Abstract

Disclosed is a process for producing an alkylene oxide adduct, which can separate and remove a catalyst and a polyalkylene glycol readily. Specifically disclosed is a process for producing an alkylene oxide adduct, which comprises the steps of: (a) addition-reacting a compound containing active hydrogen and/or a fatty acid alkyl ester with an alkylene oxide in the presence of an alkoxylation solid catalyst, thereby producing a crude alkylene oxide-added product; (b) adding an organic acid having a solubility in water at 20˚C of 1 or greater and a molecular weight of 400 or less or an inorganic acid having a solubility in water at 20˚C of 1 or greater to the crude alkylene oxide-added product, thereby adjusting the pH value of the resulting mixture to 4.0 to 8.0 and the moisture content to 5 to 15 mass% inclusive; and (c) separating and removing the alkoxylation solid catalyst from the alkylene oxide added-product produced in the step (b).
