Abstract

An electroporation device for applying an electric field to a sample, has a planar array of electrodes (80), to provide an open surface suitable to receive the sample, and a matrix of intersecting control lines (40,50), and switching elements (30,35) at the intersections, coupled to the control lines, to control the electrodes, so that selecting intersecting ones of the control lines selects a corresponding electrode to be driven to create the electric field. The matrix of control lines can be implemented using large area integration and means that fewer control lines are needed, and so larger arrays of electrodes become more feasible, and gaps between electrodes can be smaller. The open surface is more suitable than sandwich structures for application to a surface of a solid sample such as skin.
